Merrick smiled slightly. "How do ya got more'n one tail like dat?" Brag said with surprise. Merrick cocked his head with a shrug. "I'm a Kitsune, different from those anything like the Marlfoxes... and we do tend to have multiple tails," he said wryly as he shrugged slightly. "Huh; that's unusual," Saro said wryly. "Trust me, when it comes to normal... it's just a word. You find this 'normal', while say... Constance here, might find something else 'normal'," he said as he deliberately ran his hand down her back, his hand resting lightly on her rear. He tilted his head towards the archway where tendrils of steam were rising through along the ceiling, giving the main living chamber a slightly humid atmosphere. "Through there's the kitchen," he said to Constance, fairly sure the young woman would be interested in seeing it.

Kasumi tilted his head slightly, amused. "Very true; if Merrick's anything like his father, then he's naturally skilled as well as stubborn," she said with amusement.

Lorcán tilted his head thoughtfully. "Huh... it doesn't feel so... weak," Martha said as she slid off of the seat of her wheelchair, carefully keeping her forepaws on both arms of the chair, supporting most of her weight.

Constance looked to where Merrick had tilted his head and she grinned. "Can we go see," she asked as excitement crept into her voice. She knew most people would find it weird, her being excited about a kitchen. But it was her love of cooking that drew her to them. Merida snorted a little as she looked to Kasumi. "He's doubly stubborn then. As I recall, you can be pretty stubborn." She grinned at her friend. She folded her hands together, resting her chin on her hands. "Constance has a good stubborn streak in her too. I remember her parents vaguely and I recall them both being pretty stubborn."Cassandra smiled as she watched Martha life herself from the chair. She stepped a little closer to the haremaid and held out her hand. "Here, let's try it again."

Merrick tilted his head as he shifted subtly, amused as one tail lightly stroked up and down Constance's left leg as he stood. "Of course," he said with amusement; he knew only Brag had noticed that his 'one' tail had split into four now since most of the other Redwallers seemed more focused on their own little conversations. He walked slowly towards the kitchen, since he could smell that they were working on a classic blueberry and peach cake with meadowcream frosting usually made from mint leaves, sugar, and cream.

Kasumi rolled her eyes with a soft laugh. "Gee, thanks," she said with amusement; she deliberately took it as a compliment, since her stubbornness had saved her life a few times.

Lorcán tilted his head as Martha shifted, taking Cassandra's hand before she slid slowly from the chair. This time her legs held out for nearly two minutes before giving way. Martha only gasped as her legs gave out underneath her.

Constance's grin widened as she felt Merrick's tail go up and down her leg as he stood. As he began to head towards the kitchen she followed after him, her hand slipping into his. "So far, I like what I have seen here," Constance said as she walked close to Merrick. "Once we get things settled, we should visit more. I am sure your friends would like to see you more." "No problem my friend," Merida said with a laugh and nod of her head. Cassandra smiled happily when Martha was able to stand up a little longer. She caught her easily. "See, doing better already. Your legs just aren't used to the pressure on them. You will get used to it soon enough." She helped Martha to sit down again.

Merrick chuckled as he knew the kitchen appeared rustic, mainly with carved wood and metal in place of the usual appearances to the appliances and much of the usual tools were more manual than technological. "Believe me, it's pleasant here... most people think it's easier to work faster, but here, sometimes it isn't necessarily how long cooking takes, but how much one enjoys it that counts," he said wryly, not all that surprised to see Hobbs working in the kitchen with a tall female otter with caramel and blond fur and deep cerulean eyes.

Lorcán smiled slightly as Martha slid back into the chair. "I wonder what it was that left my legs... well, limp," she murmured.

Constance looked around the kitchen in amazement. It was one of the most beautiful kitchens she had ever been in. It didn't matter that there weren't any of the modern day appliances. And Merrick was right. Faster wasn't always better. Enjoying the art of cooking was what it took. "It is wonderful in here." She caught sight of Hobbs and of a tall, female otter. "I think I am gonna walk around a little," Merida said as she stood up. "You need me, just call me." She gave a small wave of her hand as she walked towards the doors. Cassandra looked up as Merida spoke, watching her for a moment. She looked back to Martha as she took her seat next to Lorcan once again. "I am not sure, but at least you are able to try to begin walking now."

Merrick chuckled as Hobbs looked up, his grip slipping on the pouch of meadowcream frosting. It splattered all over his face with a sound like a whoopee cushion letting go. "I haven't seen you in a few years, Sister Tharven," he said with amusement as the otter female looked up with a laugh at Hobbs' little accident before she noticed them and laughed a little more as she pulled a couple of cake pans out of the oven next to her; almost immediately the scent of hazelnuts, peaches, and a hint of blueberries filled the air. She came around the oven, holding her arms wide obviously expecting a hug. Merrick inhaled slowly, enjoying the familiar scent.

Kasumi blinked as Merida spoke, but nodded slightly.

Lorcán tilted his head as a couple of the others, speaking to the large otter Merrick had called 'Bragoon' suddenly looked very surprised. "Then we must send a group to investigate this 'Abyss of pain', as you claim Martin called it," one of the older mice dressed much like a monk said. Lorcan's gaze flicked to the tapestry that had the double edged sword resting below it, seeing the name of 'Martin the Warrior'. He cocked his head as Martha shivered, obviously having heard more than they had. "They're talking of sending a party to Loamhedge... it was an Abbey like this one, but a disease rushed through it, killing nearly everyone there but my mother, me, and Hort," she said in a quiet, sad voice.

Constance giggled at the little accident Hobbs had. She grinned at him and turned her gaze to the otter as she came around, arms open wide. She smiled a little. Merrick may not have had his blood family around him all his life, but he did have a family. The people here in the Abbey seemed to love him dearly. Cassandra's head tilted to the side as Martha explained what the others were talking about. "And if a disease went through there...why do they want to go through there now?" She looked at Martha, interested that only three had survived. -------- Merida took a deep breath as she stepped out into the fresh air. She liked to be around others well enough, but she begun to feel claustrophobic in there. She shook her head and then ran her hand through her hair. She just needed a little fresh air and then she would be okay.

Alede OOC - I don't know if you got the subtle reference to mint not only in the mention of the frosting, but also in the otter cook's name; it's actually based off of Mentha Arvenseis Merrick hugged Sister Tharven before he chuckled at Hobbs' misfortune. "I've had that happen a couple of times... though it's better than when Hort snuck a lit firecracker into some meadowcream when I was putting it on a cake," he said wryly, amused. He shifted his weight fractionally, one tail extending and snagging a bowl as he walked over to the handpump for water. He tilted his head fractionally before he shifted.

"Mischief makers," Constance chuckled as she watched Merrick for a moment before looking to Sister Tharven. "Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you," she said as she held her hand out to the otter woman. "I am Constance. I figured I would introduce myself since Merrick couldn't introduce us." " She said in a teasing manner. "Well if they do go, then they should all be careful." Cassandra said slowly. She played lightly with the ends of her hair. She smiled brightly at Martha. "So how do you feel, getting up on those legs of yours even if it was for a little while?"~~~~ Merida began to walk around the place, examining everything she could. This place was so different than back home. So full of life and wonder. She still couldn't believe that Cassandra had known about this place. That her ancestors had sealed it away from the rest of the world.

Merrick saw Sister Tharven take Constance's hand gently for a woman as strong and as agile as the former fisherwoman. He smiled faintly as the women shook hands. "It is good that Merrick found a good mate; it is obvious you're as strong or stronger than he is," she said with amusement, seeing Merrick stiffen ever so slightly at the subtle barb of teasing as he lowered the pump handle slowly to fill the bowl. She knew from experience the water that came out of the pump was icy cold, but she noticed with interest that steam was rising from the bowl as he turned to Hobbs and handed it to him. "I wouldn't be all that surprised if she's stronger than me, and unlike some people, I wouldn't mind at all," Merrick said with amusement.

Kasumi glanced around, her facial expression thoughtful.

Lorcán tilted his head slightly, thinking. "A bit tired," she sighed. Both of them were somewhat surprised when Saro mused about a possible cure for Martha's paralysis; his gaze flicked to Cassandra, realizing nobody had really noticed Martha standing on her own two feet.

Constance flushed a little and smiled widely. "Oh I don't know if I am stronger or not." She said with a shake of her head. She watched as Merrick handed Hobbs the bowl of water he had collected. "Everything smells so good in here." She pushed her hair behind her ear as she grinned at the otter woman. "I love to cook too."Cassandra frowned a little when she heard Saro. Apparently nobody had been paying attention to Martha standing on her own two feet. She chuckled softly and shook her head. "Well I don't think people noticed you standing Martha."Amelia's head tilted to the side slightly as she listened to them. Her fingers were folded together on top of the table.

Sister Tharven laughed, tilting her head with interest. "Then you and Merri have a lot in common, though I don't remember him having a tail, much less... four?" she said with amusement that shifted to slight confusion; all of the foxes she'd seen had only a single tail, no more nor less. Merrick cocked his head fractionally, blushing faintly at the childhood nickname Sister Tharven had often teased him with.

Constance chuckled and nodded when Sister Tharven said something about Merrick's tails. "Yeah, when I first met him, he didn't have them. Then they were there. It's inherited from his mother. The more tails he has, the stronger he is." She grinned at Merrick and winked. "I like it.""Well won't they be surprised when they finally see you trying to stand and able to do it a little bit at a time?" Cassandra smiled at Martha.

Sister Tharven looked thoughtful. "Interesting; he does look cuter with the silver hair than the odd reddish black he had before... it was like someone had dipped black cloth in blood," she said wryly, flicking Merrick's long hair with one hand since it fell to the middle of his back.
