I myself plan to whittle down mine to just four. Kratos, Azura, Zaul, and...if it's alright, I would actually like a shot at Jade now that I've been through the entire Abyss plot. surprised
I've also got most of the rehashed plot roughly down. Basically, Niflheim is really a huge layer deep inside the planet, close to the core (if not the core itself). The Otherworldly Gate is the point of its barrier that's the strongest, but...seeing as there's not yet enough mana to spread over the rest of the boundary, the demon realm is trying to break through where the barrier is the weakest. This would be evident in the form of cracks in caverns where miasma seeps through* and mysterious clusters of dark, ominous-looking crystals popping up that seem to emanate an evil influence that drives the monsters berserk.
* = No, not ripping off an aspect of Abyss here. If you recall in Phantasia, the Lone Valley and Morlia Mineshaft were areas where the miasma of the Daemonium (which is heavily implied to also be Niflheim) was leaking through.
On that note, for this RP, the entire Dwarven population might've been forced out of their underground homes due to this sort of thing.
I just need some ideas on the reasoning behind why characters from other worlds are being pulled in. That's where I'm kinda stumped.

Of course, you can expect for at least one or two Touhou characters from me as well. I may also try my hand at an OC... maybe...

I might, and probably try to limit myself too. For some reason, I feel like doing Quote from Cave Story (perhaps with Curly and/or >Balrog< as companions and/or mouthpieces). Might keep the chef, butprobably drop Regal and Ashton. I don't feel that I can do them justice. I recall having another idea, but I don't remember what it is right now. Oh yeah, that was to have the Tenth Doctor as a minor character. Haha, nope. Can't pull that one off, but it's an interesting image, yes?
Anyway, that explanation of Niflheim does make a bit more sense. Tales of Phantasia spoilers ahoy!
Niflheim/Daemonium (yeah, probably the same thing) could even influence Sylph, one of the Summon Spirits. Maybe they somehow use their power to call for help, somehow reaching across worlds (intentionally or otherwise). Heck, I bet Ratatosk could pull off that sort of thing.

I'll probably be changing my roster as well. Cross will make a return, but I'm going to add in another OC and a pair of canons from my top two anime. And by canons I mean gunslingers. And by gunslingers I mean really really big guns.
But in any case, the reason for them to be drawn in could be that Niflheim is what pulled them there to try and take them over, but some of them may have escaped to help fight against Niflheim. I mean that's just my idea, it's up to you really.

I thought you did a good job as Regal. :3 Quite honestly, this was my first attempt doing Jade. I'm keeping Aeris, Tear, and Krystal. I'll probably add a couple more characters. :3

Anyway, Jak has an interesting idea. What if instead of trying to take them over it brought them to Aselia to cause chaos and confusion, thus (theoretically) reducing resistance?

Oh, I was just curious, as there are quite a few interesting Touhou fan-characters with their own games 3nodding
A list of fangames with characters that I'm interested in would include The Last Comer (TLC), Marine Benefit (MB), and Mystical Power Plant (MPP), as they are the best fangames I've seen.
TLC and MPP were made by the same person/people and they look amazing!! *is still waiting for MPP extra stage ninja *

Ooh, Jak's idea really flows well. Perhaps it would be an unexpected effect---the strike to the weak spots of the barrier is sending a shock all the way to the Otherworldly Gate, so like...fluctuations in time-space start emanating from it. I think we could go with that!

For the record, the only reason why the Sylph were affected by the miasma in Phantasia was that they were in the caverns that held said miasma.
