Surge let out a hearty laugh as Crenu spoke, and he slapped his thigh with a dinner plate-sized hand. "Sounds good to me, Sonny, but don't go underestimatin' Raichu! He's been trained to dish out hit after every hit, so don't be thinkin' that he's about to run outta steam!" Raichu, meanwhile, had retreated back to his starting position in front of his master. He'd taken a few good hits from Swinub's Mud Bombs, and he had a nice deep cut on his belly from that Ice Shard as well and he was hurting, but for the most part he was still eager to go. He didn't want to let his master down, as he had just lost to that girl's Sneasel before this. Not only that, but defeating a Ground-type would be a real feather in his cap. Surge's thoughts were similar to his Pokemon's, and he nodded towards Crenu. "I like your kind o' thinking though, so let's do it! Show us your best!" Raichu nodded in agreement, rubbing his paws together in anticipation. He wasn't going to lose to that brown, fuzzy thing!

This has been quite a match, Jaeshan thought as he watched Swinub roll out of the way of certain doom. Raichu had the upper hand stat-wise but Crenu was quite the tactician. He couldn't wait to see how the match would end, and no matter what the outcome was it had definitely helped to psyche him up for his own upcoming battle against Erika in Celadon City.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 20, 2009 8:11 pm

Swinub was takign this moment's pause to gather his breath, it was actually very nice to be able to sit still even if it was for a moment. That Raichu had been relentless, but at the same time Swinub didn't want to lose the momentum he'd built up and neither did Crenu. "I don't underestimate anymore Surge, your daughter taught me that. After battling you it's easy to see where she gets it from, though your styles are definitely different. I'll have to tell her about this match if I see her again, and it'll be a tale of my victory. Make this one count Swinub, we aren't fooling around here anymore. We probably won't get a second chance if we fail this one." Crenu stared down the field at Surge and Raichu, unsure of exactly what moves to use now, or how to have Swinub prepare. It was difficult to come up with an effective strategy for this point of the battle, especially when he didn't know what Surge was going to use. Iron Tail was the strongest attack that would be most effective against Swinub, but it's accuracy was poor and even more so with the effects of the Mud Slap that had been saving Swinub's hide this entire match. Would he chance it though, after all Swinub was in no condition for dodging should Raichu get by his attack, even a Horn Drill could hit him now. But Mega Punch was also likely, Raichu seemed to favor that move it seemed, this was pretty frustrating. Had he done that on purpose? Was he letting Crenu go first so that he wouldn't be able to think up a counter strike on the fly? Even if it was only a few seconds Crenu was usually able to think of something, maybe Surge had picked up on that. This was troubling but Crenu had no choice but to just go for it now. "Swinub, use Ice Shard again, don't give them a chance to attack. Stay calm and remember, power is everything. But power isn't the same as brute strength, now show them your power and win!" Swinub listened to Crenu carefully, nodding at his words. He was right, Raichu had more strength than he did and so did his attacks, but that didn't mean everything. Swinub immediately started running forward instead of firing off the Ice Shard, gathering the energy as he closed the distance between himself and his opponent and leaping forward with all his strength, going into a spin as he shot out the quick moving projectile, the large chunk of ice spiraling through the air like a drill. Not only that but it was moving even faster than usual due to Swinub's little running start. Swinub may not have been as strong as Raichu but he had something else that gave him his own power. Swinub wasn't just any old pokemon, he raised to be a contest pokemon!

Rhyhorn cried out as he felt Rattata's large teeth dig into his solid body, a bit confused as to why it hurt him so much. The whole thing just made Rhyhorn start to get mad, but Brock kept his cool. "Calm down Rhyhorn, don't get so riled up over a bit of pain. Bite is a dark type move, your rock hard skin doesn't slow it down like most other attacks. Smart tactics young trainer. Or can it be that it was just a fluke? No matter, one hit like that isn't going to stop us. Rock types can do more than just charge in and attack, you'd be foolish to think that all we have is the up close and personal game like your Rattata. Use Rock Tomb Rhyhorn and crush them!" The Spikes Pokemon let out another mighty roar after having calmed down a bit and rose up on his hind legs, coming down hard as he sent energy coursing through the rocky gym floor. Nothing seemed to happen at first, but then all of a sudden several jagged stones shot up from the ground around Rattata.

"Quick Attack?" Kasiya scoffed, shaking her head. "Is that all you guys got? Nova, use Dragon Claw!" she shouted, pointing at the Ninetales as he streaked towards the tiny lizard. Nova let out a very un-Charmander-like growl and she jumped forward, swinging a glowing, purple fist at Helios as he neared her. The uppercut stopped the Ninetales and turned him around completely, sending him to the floor in a beige heap.

Snarling, Helios jumped back up to his feet, completely enraged. The puny little lizard was making a fool out of him, and he wasn't going to allow that. Looks like Kasiya's really been working with Nova, Keegan thought, eying the Charmander warily. That Dragon Claw had some power behind it and he couldn't help but think that perhaps he was going to regret accepting this challenge. "Hang in there, Helios," Keegan called. "You're still the more experienced battler! Use your Heat Wave!" The Ninetales braced himself before exhaling his trademark wave of scorching hot breath over the battlefield. Kasiya and Nova were quick to counter, and only a split second after the Heat Wave was executed Nova spewed out a thick Smokescreen, completely obscuring his and Helios' vision. "We've got a think of something to clear this smog," Keegan mumbled, but Helios was one step ahead of him.

The Ninetales' eyes began to glow with a fiery radiance, and his nine tails danced around him as he released a rapidly-moving Fire Spin. The rotation of the flames drew in the smoke and cleared the battlefield and it continued to move towards Nova, threatening to entrap her within its blazing vortex. It won't do much but it should immobilize her for a few moments and give us time to regroup, the redhead thought, stealing a glance at the Charmander's trainer. She didn't seem to be too worried about her Pokemon, as after all Nova was a fire Pokemon and she resisted fire type attacks, and while flashy as all hell Fire Spin really wasn't all that powerful. She's got something up her sleeve, Keegan thought, wary of the devious smile on the girl's face. She really would make a terrific Gym Leader.
=====
Miharu sighed and nudged a hunk of drywall with her shoe. Putting her hands in her pockets she looked up at Chuck's wife. "Well, sorry to have disturbed you," she said quietly, giving a slight bow before turning to leave the gym.

"You're leaving already?" the woman asked, setting the tray of glasses down atop of a stack of drywall sheets. "Since this is a Pokemon Gym, I was under the impression that you were here to challenge my husband to a battle." She smiled kindly and placed a hand on Miharu's shoulder. "That is the case, isn't it?" she asked.

"Well, yes," Miharu answered quietly. "The gym doesn't appear to be in any condition to be housing any battles right now, though." She gestured towards the chaos that currently was the Cianwood Gym, her point being reinforced as one of the workers swung a heavy sledgehammer and knocked down a section of wall, kicking up a thick cloud of drywall dust.

"Oh, nonsense," Chuck's wife answered curtly, dismissing Miharu's words with a wave of her hand. "Just because we're renovating the gym doesn't mean we're closed for business, are we, Honey?" she called over to her husband.

"Hmm?" the large man looked over at his wife, his gaze falling upon the tiny girl standing beside her. "What's this? A challenger?" With speed one would not think a man of his was capable of he raced across the debris-ridden floor and came to a skidding stop beside his wife, whom he easily dwarfed by at least a foot. He folded his muscular arms over his broad chest and looked down at Miharu. "So, you want a battle with me?" he asked.

Miharu nodded. "Yes sir, I would, but might I ask where would we battle?"

Chuck let out a hearty laugh and clapped the girl on the back. "I thought you might ask that. But the answer is quite simple: we shall do battle outside! There is also an arena located out in the back garden. Grab your courage and let's get a move on!"

Kilik sat back and removed his small side bag, using it as an elbow rest. He had to admit that Robin had some pretty interesting moves. As well as Pokemon. First, what in the world was that thing on her shoulder? Surely it couldn't be Luffy, her Aipom, could it? Though it was wearing the same hat that Luffy always carried around with him. No way...Aipom doesn't evolve...Unless... he scratched his head and shrugged. Maybe he was just thinking too much about it. That Totodile of hers was pretty tough, too. He started to laugh when he heard her say that it could beat everything they would throw at it. No Totodile is that tough, he laughed at the thought. "Besides," he looked over at Treecko, "You could beat that Totodile easily, couldn't you, Treecko?" The gecko Pokemon snapped to attention and nodded. Of course she could! She was one of Kilik's Pokemon and he was the best trainer ever! Nobody could beat her so long as she belonged to him! And she always would, right? He wouldn't get rid of her. Nope, nope! They were going to be friends forever! She smiled widely at her trainer and clenched her little fist. If she was going to fight that Totodile, she was totally ready to win!

When Robin sent out her next Pokemon to face the opponent's Tauros, Kilik's jaw dropped. "A Skiploom?" he questioned to nobody in particular. "What an odd choice. There's no way that---!" He shot and stood up like a bullet when it started to evolve right in front of him. That's why! he thought, laughing happily, A Jumpluff! I tell ya, Robin's sure come a long way since I first met her. He punched the air and cheered for her. Treecko did the same thing, though she wasn't exactly sure why. And she did think that the hat was a little silly looking. That was just her opinion though, and she really hoped Kilik wouldn't dress her up in silly clothes like that. That was just...well, silly! "Congrats on your evolution, Robin!" he called out.

-*-

Giovanni heard voices in his office, and couldn't exactly tell where it was coming from. It sounded like a communicator, and the voice was very familiar to him...A few words were muffled, but he made out 'Skiploom' and...'evolution'. "No!" he shot up, slamming his fist on his desk. "Did another one of those children evolve their Pokemon?" he ordered in a tracking of the signal and within moments, a Grunt came into the room with an explanation.

"Sir, the signal has been traced to the communicator that you..." he cleared his throat, "gave to Kilik during the Maorde Incident. He must have kept it in his bag and it was somehow activated just now. We can refuse the signal and remotely shut it off from here, sir."

Giovanni was pale. Nothing frightened him more than those children getting more powerful..."Which one of them has evolved? I heard it was a Skiploom, and I really needn't worry with such a meaningless Evolution! Jumpluff are all pushovers!"

"It was one of the females, sir," the Grunt continued, "Robin Knight."

"That loudmouthed girl!?" he roared. That girl made the mistake of crossing my path...though I have to admire her courage. Yet I can't discern whether it was a brave act or just a stupid one. He relaxed slightly and rolled his neck. "No matter. It is only a Jumpluff. I'm not worried. However..." he smirked, "Perhaps I have just hatched an idea that could get around this...evolution dilemma. And I'm going to need Mai to do it. She has the perfect specimen for us to experiment on."

"Sir?"

"I will await their arrival in Sinnoh. I will allow the children to rest easy for a time. I see no need in jumping the gun. This will take careful consideration and planning, and it will definitely cost a pretty penny. However, should this plan work," he laughed heartily, "Then I will have two ways to destroy those children! And if I were to unleash both at the same time, there's no way they could stop me!" Yes! Once my plans are complete, those children will finally fall and see the true power of Team Rocket!

Hearing Kilik cheer her on from the sidelines Robin couldn't help her excitement spike up a bit it was always nice to have someone cheer you on and it was Kilik who was watching her to. She had meet the boy on her first day of being a pokemon trainer and it was time to show off all of her hard work to the other one. "All right Brook! How about we give them a dose of your Sleep Powder!" Robin laughed as she watched her pokemon hold on for dear life as the Tauros bucked around.

What Sleep Powder? How the hell was he supposed to do that? He was holding on for dear life here! That and the fact that with all this thrashing around it was starting to hurt his tiny body. The Leech Seed was only doing so much for him. Still if it was Sleep Powder Robin wanted then it was Sleep Powder Robin was gunna get, somehow. Doing his best to focus his energy blue powder started to come from his cotton spore hands. It actually was a pretty good strategy considering he was hanging onto the rampaging Tauros so the powder hit him right away. It took a moment and Brook wasn't sure it had worked at all until the bull's bucking started to slow down and soon it was stumbling around. Finally the bull pokemon fell sound asleep, right on top of Brook. Because it fell asleep mid-buck the bull toppled over to the side crushing Brook as well as it fell.

Both Robin and John stared at the situation. Brook seemed to be out for the count considering a 200 pound Tauros fell on him while the Tauros was snoring away and didn't look like it was going to get up anytime soon. "Ah, how about we call this match a draw?" Robin suggested as she recalled her fallen pokemon.

"Yeah ok that seems fine." John really didn't want to see his pokemon get beat up while it was sleeping, just switching to the next round sounded like a better idea. "All right let's see if you can take on my next pokemon. Come on Pelipper!" Tossing out a new pokeball a large white and blue pokemon appeared out of it. The moment it was out it took off flying around the arena with a happy look on its face.

"Hmm a flying type yeah? Well I have a pokemon that can fly to! Let's go Razputin!" Robin cheered as she tossed out her park ball. The small Yanma appeared with his usual aerial flourish before glancing around the arena trying to spot his opponent. It took him a moment to discover that this battle was going to be up in the air. He had never battled a pokemon that could fly around like himself before this was going to be interesting.

Riza was still up on her feet as the two trainers before her prepared for what would most likely be the last round of the match, and she was a bit surprised to find that she was even more nervous for Crenu than she had been for herself during her own match. She was impressed with both sides thus far, as Crenu had been quite good with his tactics and Surge refused to give any ground whatsoever. Riza couldn't help but want to raise a Pikachu or a Raichu of her own someday as both their cuteness and speed would be something good to take advantage of for contests. "Go Crenu! Go Swinub!" she cheered, clapping her hands. "You guys can do it! I know you can!"

Genki jumped back after landing his thunderpunch, still regrouping after being smacked around by the Cranidos' stealthy headbutt. He didn't relax until the rock-type fell, and even then he stared at it menacingly until Roark recalled it back into its poke ball. Now, in celebration of his victory he rushed over to Katie and jumped into her arms, though it wasn't until she heard the happy cries of the Monferno that she realized that they had won. "Oh Genki, you're amazing," she giggled, hugging the fire-type tightly. Genki scooted around so that he was clinging to Katie's shoulder, and both he and his trainer looked towards the gym leader as he approached them.

"Thank you, Roark," Katie said, accepting her winnings with a slight bow. "That was the best battle I've ever had, and I learned a lot from it." She admired the glimmering Coal Badge that was pinned to the bag before peering inside. There was a tm disc as well as some money. A closer look at the disc revealed that it was the tm for stealth rock, and after seeing the way Roark and his Pokemon had used it to their advantage, she couldn't wait to get herself a Pokemon that could use it too. "Thanks again," she said, shifting the heavy monkey a bit so she was more comfortable. "Maybe we can battle again some time, I would like that very much." She offered a handshake before she and Genki made their way out of the gym, their next destination the pokecenter. It was time for some well deserved rest and relaxation.

By now Katie was very familiar with the trek back to the pokecenter and it didn't take her very long to get there. She'd recalled Genki long before they made it back to the red roofed building as the toll of battle finally caught up with him and he was starting to feel pretty tired. That, and that Cranidos' headbutts were no laughing matter, they'd really hurt! Either way Katie was still beaming proudly as she walked up to the counter and placed her four poke balls in a tray and sliding them towards the nurse. "We've just come from our first gym battle," she explained. "So could you please take extra good care of my Monferno, Staravia and Roselia? My Elekid just needs a quick checkup."

"Certainly," the nurse said, nodding as she accepted the tray. "Your first gym battle? How did it go?"

"We won," Katie said, smiling happily as she showed Joy her gleaming Coal Badge. "It was a tough match but we managed to come out on top."

"Well I suppose congratulations are in order then," she said, setting the tray down for a moment. "And I think you'll need one of these, too." She opened a drawer and pulled out a glossy silver case, and handed it to Katie. "It's a badge case. Since many new trainers win their first badge here in Oreburgh, I keep a supply of them on hand."

"Oh, wow! Thank you!" Katie said, opening it and looking inside. There were eight little sections where her badges would go, and to mark the occasion she placed the shiny Coal Badge in the first space. "One down and seven to go!" she said, admiring it. She thanked the nurse once more before she took the tray of poke balls off to get treatment while Katie put the badge case safely in her bag and got herself a lemonade from the vending machine.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 25, 2009 7:39 pm

Katie had only time to go and wash up and sit down to take a slight breather before the nurse called out to her again, though at this point it was only Kord who she was returning. Thanking her once more Katie took the Elekid's poke ball and sat back down on the couch. She was feeling quite tired as it had been one heck of a busy day. The ride to and from Hearthome City had eaten up a lot of the day, and she'd spent more time in the Oreburgh Gym than she had meant to as well. 'If I remember correctly the next gym is in Eterna City,' she thought to herself, closing her eyes as she sipped her lemonade. 'If I could borrow that bike again I could go zipping up cycling road and be in Eterna as early as this evening, but that's way too soon to be having another gym match. We'll need more time to prepare and train before we make our next bid for a badge.'

Kord's poke ball, which had been resting on her lap, began to wiggle and shake and the electric-type Pokemon escaped his confinement, feeling refreshed and energized. He was still a little annoyed that he couldn't help Katie with her big important match but since he had just hatched that morning he knew he was still too young, and that she didn't want him getting hurt. He had a feeling that there would be many more of these battles and he fully intended on helping Katie win them. "Look Kord, we won our first badge," Katie said, her thoughts on a similar page as the Elekid's. She opened the silvery case and held it out for Kord to look at.

"Bibibi!" he said, even though he wasn't that impressed by it. It was just a little hunk of metal, but it was proof that Katie had won that big battle, and since it was important to her, it was important to him too. "Bi!" he cheered, sparks of electricity zapping back and forth in between the two prongs on top of his head.

Katie smiled and closed the case and put it away once more. "It's only the first badge, but it is an important first step," she said happily, closing her eyes and leaning back in her seat. Kord cooed a bit and snuggled up in her arms. As tough and brave as he was, he was still a baby after all and he could not resist a nice cuddle.

"A Yanma huh? I heard those were pretty rare. Well rare or not my Pelipper is gunna beat it! So Pelipper how about you show them your Water Pulse." John ordered with a grin. The Pelipper seemed to grin its huge beak as it flapped its large wings and tried to maneuver it self into an advantageous place to fire his attack at the speedy dragonfly pokemon. It took some careful maneuvering but finally he managed to get into a place where he could actually hit the other flying pokemon. Focusing his power a wave of water shot out at the Yanma.

Due to their gym battle against Misty, Robin and Razputin were practiced against the move Water Pulse. They also never knew that Pelipper was also a water type pokemon so that was a bit of a surprise, still it wasn't anything they couldn't handle. "I know you don't like to get wet Raz so let's use Detect!" Robin ordered in a grin as she watched the pelican like pokemon try to out maneuver Razputin. When it finally fired off it's Water Pulse a second later Razputin was ready for it and the agile Yanma did the aerial equivalence of a side step. "Ha! Great job Raz!" Robin and Luffy cheered from the side. The Yanma was pretty happy with his praise and as his body glowed with his speed boost and he did a flip in the air.

"Hmm well, that didn't hit but Detect doesn't work so much if you use it back to back. So let's hit them again Pelipper! Use your Water Pulse and blast that Yanma out of the air!" The Pelipper made a sort of caw sound in affirmation as it tried to do its best to keep an eye on the speedy little pokemon. Finally it seemed to pick up a sort of pattern and waiting for a second it fired another Water Pulse right at Razputin. This time the attack hit Raz before Robin and Luffy had a time to respond.

The small Yanma went flying and smacked right into the ground harshly from the force of the Water Pulse. "Oh no Raz! Come on Raz pick yourself up!" On the ground Raz was struggling to get up the water did not help his wings fly and after a few experimental flaps he figured he wouldn't be able to get off the ground just yet. Looking over at Robin he shook his head it was a no go for getting back up into the air just yet. "Ah, um, hmm, this is a problem..." Robin muttered as she tried to think of something they could do. "Oh! I know Raz let's hit them with your Psychic attack!" Robin practically jumped in excitement as she thought of something.

"Incoming, Raichu! Brace yerself!" Surge called out as Swinub launched his spinning Ice Shard. Surge had to admit that it was a fairly decent tactic, adding the spin to the icy projectile, but would it be enough? "Fight back with a Body Slam! There ain't no way they can get out of the way now!" the gym leader called. Pawing at his eyes a bit Raichu darted forward, his goal to jump up and over the quickly moving hunk of ice and plant Swinub into the floor, though it wouldn't go over quite as planned. Still suffering the effects of the previous Mud Slap, Raichu misjudged the angle of the Ice Shard so therefore the timing of his jump was off as well. The ice cut into him like a frigid knife but he went through with his plan anyway, even as a chill crept through his body. His body now aching something terrible, Raichu launched himself into the air for what he knew would be the final time, but he knew that if he was going down, he was taking that pesky Swinub with him!

This is it, Jaeshan thought as he first watched Swinub send off his spiraling Ice Shard, only to hear Surge counter with a Body Slam. He was very surprised to see Raichu stumble a bit and take another solid hit form the icy missile, but he still managed to get himself into the air and now he was coming down towards Swinub like a ton of bricks. That's gonna hurt, he thought, wincing. He too was doubtful that Swinub could dodge now, especially since he was so close and would have to recover from his spin. Not sure what the outcome of this match would be, all Jaeshan could do was watch and wait.

Riza couldn't help but admire the way that Swinub spun to give a bit extra to his ice shard, it was totally something that he could use in a contest. 'Well Swinub was trained by Ken after all, and he's competed in many contests.' She also couldn't help but be annoyed by the fact that nothing seemed to be able to bring this Raichu down, as now it was preparing to use a body slam on poor cute Swinub. "Hang in there Swinub!" she called. "You can beat them!"

The warm atmosphere of the pokecenter and the velvety fur of the Elekid in her arms was enough to lull Katie into a light sleep, and it wasn't until about forty five minutes later that she jolted awake to the sounds of two screeching voices practically in her ears. She opened her eyes to see Genki and Noa on either side of her, both looking quite chipper and energetic. Katie also knew that Seraphim was nearby as well, as even though she couldn't see the Roselia she could smell the sweet scent of the Pokemon's roses.

"You guys look much better," Katie said, glad to see that their treatments had been successful. "Now that you're all healed up, what do you guys say to getting some dinner? It's starting to get late and I bet you're all feeling pretty hungry." The chorus of cheers from her Pokemon was more than enough of a confirmation for her so she picked up her three poke balls and recalled them, allowing Kord to scramble up on her shoulder instead of going back in his ball as well. Since she was tired of pokecenter food she figured that it was a good time to go out someplace nice and get a real meal. After all, her pokemon certainly deserved it.

This was it, this was the very last of it. Swinub had put everything into that Ice Shard, and after a spin like that he wasn't going anywhere fast. But it wasn't enough, Raichu wasn't down yet. It looked like it hurt the thunder mouse, was able to power through this one as well and was going to follow through with the attack, but upon a closer look Crenu could see that Raichu was hurting as well. All seemed lost for a moment as Swinub sure as hell wasn't going to be avoiding this hit, and the little guy didn't have it in him to try and counter either. Maybe adding some spin wasn't such a good idea, Swinub may have had enough time to recover and dodge that way. But no, he left it up to Swinub to pull out his best and if he hadn't Raichu probably wouldn't have been in the shape it was in now. It was clear that Raichu was at it's end now as well and wasn't going to be able to continue after this Body Slam, Swinub would just have to hold out on his own. "Hang tough Swinub, you've fought to hard to be taken out now. Don't worry about moving, just brace yourself and make sure that Raichu doesn't get a soft landing." That was all there was to say, no time for anything more. Swinub knew this as well, their final gamble hadn't paid off it seemed and now he had to pay the price. Swinub tightened all his muscles and tried to harden his body as best he could, feeling a crushing weight land on him as Raichu's Body Slam found it's mark. Swinub tried to push the weight back and force it back up into Raichu, but all he managed was one last push upwards before collapsing under the tremendous force of the Body Slam. That was it for Swinub, he was down and out and slowly slipped out of consciousness. Crenu watched, knowing fully well what was happening before him. He didn't blame Swinub, he blamed himself for not doing a better job in this battle and not knowing all of Swinub's moves.

Ken watched not daring to breath as the final exchange was put out before him. That was a wonderful Ice Shard he had to admit, he'd never taught Swinub how to use it like that but it seemed the little Pig Pokemon had the contest spirit in him for sure! He was sure proud of him, and of Crenu. He had to admit that maybe Swinub wasn't the best choice against a fully evolved Raichu, and the proof was in the way it managed to keep on track even after taking the Ice Shard. That Body Slam was going to hit, there was no mistaking it. But he looked over at Riza as she cheered and smiled. She was right, all there was to do now was give Swinub and Crenu their support. "Yeah, you can do it Swinub! Show them that Sinnoh doesn't raise no pushovers!" But the cheering only went so far, And Ken could see as well that Swinub was down for the count after fighting off that Body Slam as best as he could. "Oh no..."

It was past seven when Katie and her Pokemon had finished their dinner, and Katie couldn't help but notice how much better Genki and Noa seemed to get along all of a sudden. They still shot each other the occasional glare and dirty look but for the most part they were getting along. Katie wasn't sure what was responsible for this sudden shift in attitude, and as she looked at Kord again she wondered if maybe they were trying to set a good example for the baby by not fighting all the time. 'Well whatever it is that's causing this I sure appreciate it. I don't think too many trainers can say that two of their Pokemon evolved simply to one up each other...'

After leaving the restaurant Katie had put both the Monferno and Staravia back into their poke balls just in case they decided to start their fighting again. That, and she wanted to spend more time with Kord and Seraphim to get to know her two newest Pokemon better. She carried the Roselia in her arms while Kord had climbed up onto her head. It had been Seraph's idea to be held, as her little legs didn't exactly move all that fast, and at first Katie had been leery as she knew that the Pokemon had tiny thorns covering her whole body, but she hadn't been pricked even once.

The sun was still in the early stages of setting, as it was summer and the days were much, much longer, and though she'd had a long day Katie didn't want to turn in as of yet. She was still feeling pretty good about her previous win over Roark but she knew that it was just the beginning of her Sinnoh league badge quest. 'Only an eighth of the way there,' she thought quietly as she walked. 'We'll keep training though, and before we know it our badge case will be full of badges.' The thought made her smile, and she looked down at Seraphim and then up at Kord, who was peeking down at her from his perch. "And soon you'll be helping me win badges too," she told the Elekid fondly. Kord grinned broadly, and nodded. Of course he would! He was made of tough stuff after all!

Rattata jumped backwards after having sunk his teeth into Rhyhorn’s hard-skinned body, and waited for his opponent to counter. Train knew that even though Rattata now had attacks that could actually inflict some damage without being majorly powered down, the battle still wasn’t going to be easy. She looked up at Brock while he spoke, but she think of much she could say in return. She was too busy trying to think of different strategies she could try, though Brock didn’t seem too worried about that, as he was talking an awful lot. Oh well, he’d have to deal with the conversation being a bit one-sided.

Well, now they were making their move, and Train couldn’t just leave Rattata to sit there and take it. While Rhyhorn could afford that a bit, her Pokémon couldn’t.
”Rattata, dodge those rocks and use your Dig attack!” She finally spoke up, forcing out the words rather quickly. She was lucky she didn’t mess up the words and sound like a total idiot. At least, while she was rather nervous on the inside, she managed to keep a pretty calm appearance.

Rattata leaped out of the way of a rock and burrowed himself into the ground, going down pretty deep into the floor of the arena and trying to pinpoint where exactly Rhyhorn was before going up for the actual attack. Train hoped the big Pokémon would move a bit so that Rattata could get a better sense of where it was. It was a super effective move, so it would really help them out.

Leon stared at the Zigzagoon blankly. Stupid mistake. He’d forgotten that, while Normal-type moves wouldn’t affect Ghost-type Pokémon, the same could be said for the reverse. The Zigzagoon hopped to its feet and ran at Ghos, attempting to Tackle it but going straight through the Gas Pokémon.

”Will-o-wisp,” Leon said. Ghos turned around to face his opponent and sent the oddly coloured ring of fire towards the Zigzagoon, hitting it right on and scorching it, causing it to let out a cry of pain and try for another Tackle. After this again failed, it winced as the burn left behind by the attack dealt out more damage to the helpless Pokémon.

Surge winced as he watched his Raichu come crashing down heavily atop Swinub, a slight cloud of dust flying about as some of the mud had began to dry on the mouse's fur. Swinub may not have been getting back up again, but neither was Raichu - it seemed that last attack had also been quite damaging to him, and now he lay on the floor, one tawny paw draped over the fuzzy pig's back, completely out of it. For a moment or so the following silence was more deafening than the sounds of battle only seconds earlier, but it wouldn't last as the quiet was soon broken by Surge's hearty laughter and applause. "Well, that's all she wrote," the burly gym leader said, still chuckling as he got down off his raised platform. Mr Reid and his Pikachu were still stationed at their place in the referee box, though the mouse was looking a bit confused as how to call the match. He hadn't seen a double KO before, but he figured he'd let the gym leader deal with it.

Surge recalled his fallen Raichu and made his way towards Crenu, still wearing a broad grin. He signaled towards Reid and the elderly man nodded before meeting his commanding officer out on the battlefield. The two exchanged a few words and the older man headed off towards Surge's office while the gym leader walked out to meet Crenu. "Well, that was quite an entertaining match, if I do say so myself," he said, nodding. "Now, ya may not have won that one, but ya didn't lose it, either. I tell you what, Crenu, not many matches end in a draw here in the Vermilion Gym, and when they do, it's up to me to decide if the challenger is worthy of my badge or not." He paused as the older man had returned, and he now held out a shining, golden box to Surge similar to the one he'd given Riza earlier. "And Crenu, I think you're pretty damned worthy of this badge. I ain't seen no one as able to think on the fly as well as you do in a long time, so go on, take it. You've earned it." The grin had never left Surge's face, even as he held out the glimmering box for Crenu to accept.

"I can't believe it's over," Jaeshan mumbled, slowly standing up as both Pokemon lay on the floor, unconscious. He had been sure that Surge's last command would have been the game winner, but Swinub's attacks, though far from brimming with power like Raichu's had been, had definitely whittled away the mouse's health and had inevitably brought it down. "A draw, now who saw that one coming," he laughed, standing up to stretch his legs. He made his way across the floor, not going right out to the battlefield, but close enough to hear Surge's little speech, and he smiled and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he definitely earned that one," he said, looking back to Ken and Riza. "That was an awesome battle."
