"Suit yourself," Riley called, finally reaching the top. Her tail feathers fanned and turned slightly in an instictive attempt to help her balance. She turned and decided to sit, her feet dangling down towards the woodchips she had so recently smacked her head into. She looked at him and felt a puff of pride as she grinned, "Well, I'm used to fall'n is all."

Taki had started to swing, then stopped when he saw Riley go down, standing up in front of the swing, but not rushing over like the others. Dr. Darnell, he could understand, but he didn't want to crowd her. When she sat back up he grinned, though, and plopped into the swing again. "She's unbreakable, or something," he said, glancing over towards Manny, and then started swinging again, legs going to propel himself upwards.

Ignacio nodded wisely. "You get over fallin' in a minute or something. It goes away." Then he twisted to peer back towards the classroom. "She's not so bad," he finally announced. Reluctantly, he began clambering down from the top of the metal dome. "So we probably better get back in... Even though, ugh, don't wanna."

Despite protestations, Thwomp started herding all the children back towards the classroom: he did this by doing little running headbutts against their backs, dancing in front of them warningly and then headbutting again if they were too slow. He was obviously a conscientious watchdog.
Beatrix was already taking down notes on the blackboard of where they had gone: Antony's perambulations were marked down neatly. "You might have thought that was just an excuse to go and run around in the playground," she said, "but in reality, we'll be using directions once we start on our first maths project, and I'll keep these written down in my notebook. We'll be starting our project next week. Please remember to bring a ruler, a blue pen and a red pen to class; I will be giving you maths books and a homework sheet that you'll hand in each Friday. We have two more minutes until the bell rings, so does anybody have any questions before you go off?"

Antony raised a hand. "What are the projects going to be, Dr. Darnell?"

"Yeah, I think so," Manny agreed, then saw that the others were going in. "Come on Taki, we should go in," she told him as she hopped off the swing and started to run toward the classroom. She arrived just as the teacher started to explain the assignment. So a ruler, 2 pens, that was all she had to bring, it seemed simple enough.

"We'll be doing a partner project that will require both of you to work on a set of instructions, but that will only be assessed at the end of the month, because I suspect we need a great deal of time to work on your geometry," said their teacher. "All I ask is that you all make sure that you do not loathe each other to the point where you cannot find a suitable partner, in which case you will be forced to pair up with Thwomp. I am still considering whether or not to let you all pick by yourselves or draw partners randomly. If you all impress me with your stunning maturity, it will be the first one. Any more questions?"

Riley reluctantly followed Iggy inside. She managed to make it in time for the instructions. Homework? Ahhh, come on! They went to school to work, didn't they? What's the deal with working at home too? She frowned, looking a little put off. But at least the project she was taking about was with someone. Working together was far more...well...not fun, but closer to it. She gave Iggy a sidelong glance, kind of a "lets be partners if we can" sort of thing.
