Spartan-4202 rurica I just finished Angela's Ashes, the autobiography of Frank McCourt, and it deals a lot with religion. He's Irish Catholic, and there's a lot of "He/she is going to hell unless he/she confesses to a priest" "state of grace for communion/death/confirmation/etc." That was all before Vatican II, which, for those who don't know Catholic history well, is when Pope John Paul loosened up a lot of the rules, mass stoped being said in Latin, and there was just less general dogma. From my experience with Catholisism, as much as I hate it, it's not so terrible as telling kids they're doomed to hell if they don't obey their parents, or the Protestants are doomed to hell because they aren't Catholic, or DOOM DOOM DOOM. I hate the Catholic church because of its sensorship, total resistance to putting women into positions of power, and its general misunderstanding of the importance of personal spirituality. I'm not a spiritual person, but it just makes me angry with they pretend like a drunken priest conducting a series of terribly boring rituals and delivering a weak and uninspring homely (sermon) is a way of worshiping god. Urgh. I could go on. Catholic guilt makes no sense to me. I havn't witnessed it. Religion should be to cultivate the mind, not destroy it. Any religion that attempts to weaken people and hide the divinity of their own self is wrong. Realizing the self is more important then ties anyone else places upon you. YOu see in more in Hispanic and Irish Catholics more often. And i take offence to the "drunken preist" part. My great-uncle William was a priest, and he was a very good man. And the priest at a grade school were my girlfriend went was a drunk. Not all preists are terrible, in fact, there's one that sometimes does mass at my high school who is quite liberal and fun. But I hate that the Church skims over problems, like drinking or child abusing, but just moving the priests around. I also dislike that some supposedly holy person is giving some supposedly holy mass, when really, if they weren't a priest, they'd be somebody you wouldn't want to be alone in a room with. Just that whole "priests are better then regular lay people" thing bugs me. A lot.

Wish I had heard about this before I started planning an Anime Club. whee
A GSA at my school would be a lot better. I have non-straight friends, and I also have a friend or two who are very homophobic. I can't stand that. And see, I would never be able to start a club like this, because my own parents are extreme homophobes. Mom says that if she ever had a child who wasn't straight, she'd throw them out. Which I can't stand hearing. stare Jeeze.
So yeah. I wouldn't know what to do about a GSA. Plus... what exactly would the people who joined do, exactly? Have meetings to.. do what?

And does your girlfreand go there too? ever been caught snogging in the bathrooms? xd Well, our school is the more tollerant all-girls-catholic-high-school of the area. Most of the teachers know about Molly and I and it''s not a big deal or anything. We do a diversity assembly and that kind of stuff, so it''s not like everybody''s a robot. One teacher is especially fun to talk to. He has two lesbian sisters, lol. Um. But yes. General church teachings says the people with the desires aren''t bad, but the actions are. I donno. They don''t like the rainbow pride stuff so much, but we get a way with a lot. My girl does go there with me. We don''t snog in the bathrooms because we''re both very paranoid ^_^ However, I definitly know some people who did xD "What do they think to [of] homosexuality" ...that''s kind of a complicated question!
