Have any of you seen this, then? It was posted on Brass Goggles. I've fallen in love with the band, but none of their other songs have very steampunk videos.. And I can't judge by the lyrics because, you know. French.

I think it's sort of more along the lines of 'Shut up, my heart.' But I took French like a zillion years ago so I'm even less of a reliable translator than Babelfish.
But regardless that video was still amazing. And so sad cry

When I think steampunk in terms of music, I instantly think Beat Circus, along with Hallelujah The Hills. Humanwine and o'death aren't too bad either in my opinion, but I do think Beat Circus is the best of the group. Beat CircusHumanwine [I recommend Dim Allentown Cove] o'deathHalleluja The Hills

I've been listening to Vernian Process's compilation of steampunky music "An Age Remembered". It's pretty good, with a lot of different types of music represented. There's two different versions of the album available for download. You can find the newest one in the Brass Goggles forum pretty easily.

Steampunk has somewhat of a naval influence, correct? And when I think of sailing and such, sea shanties and other such kinds of music seem to come to my mind(not sure why, but it does). Flogging Molly comes to my mind(I know, it's a horrible vid, and poor quality. Terribly sorry). And while not neccissarily steampunkish(and really more on the goth side of the spectrum), Voltaire certainly has a victorian feel to him(although most of his songs are a bit comedic). I'm pretty sure I missed the mark with both of those though. Please don't hurt me too much!

Skyships are more common than seaships from what I've seen, so I wouldn't say it has a serious naval influence.

In most steampunk stories I've read and shows I've seen, they've usually followed naval codes and such. Like positions of authority on a ship, for instance, always seem along the lines of the ranks in the Navy. And they often use naval terms such as port, starboard, bow, stern, deck, sailing, etc. Yes, they almost always take place in the air, but they follow the principles of how people used to travel across the ocean. And most likely none of that made sense to anyone. I'm horrible at explaining myself properly.

"ding ding" style automated orders from the helm, and sailing ships with their attention to lines (ropes) connected to the balloon, just like a sailing ship needs to pay attention to the position and effects of the sails.

Eris Discordion Dresden Dolls, folks. *heart* I cannot resist a band that would label itself "Brechtian Punk Cabaret". While not explicitly steampunk, I think it's steampunky enough to post. While at the website, check out their photo albums. Yes! i love you. Dresden Dolls are the best.
