"Uh, HELLS YES we should open it! If it's a trap, we gets to smash it, and if it's not it probably has something reeeeally useful inside... like a meatball sub. It's WIN WIN!" Seriously, what was the big deal if it DID attack them? Spaz would just beat the hell out of whatever popped out just like those stupid little monsters. They had barely even scratched him and- wait... Spaz looked at Kali, and for the first time he noticed how worked over she looked. He hadn't realized that she wasn't holding up as well as he was.
"Here," he dug out the Potion they'd just gotten and handed it over to Kali in a fit of uncharacteristic generosity, "you should probably use this."
When his partner had taken the little bottle of liquid, Spaz hunkered down in front of the chest and pried it open.

[You're opening the chest, then? Okay.]
There was no trap. In fact...it seemed to be...a map of sorts. Cool!

[Note: Yellow is treasure, Red is "Secret" treasure (AKA a break in the strange computerized walls. Covert without a map. Completely.]

((Yeah, sorry, I edited my post before. I just fixed it))
"Err, uh..." Spaz held up the map, turning his head this way and that trying to figure it out. Topography wasn't his strong point. It wasn't until he noticed the "Floor 3" at the top that he understood. "Ah, this should come in handy soon."

After carefully looking over the map Spaz rolled it up and stuck it in Brian's bag. "Okay, let's go." Waving for Kali to follow, Spaz went back to the four-way split and took the only remaining path, hoping that it would lead to the next floor.

And so it did. After a little bit of strangely uninterrupted walking, the pair came across a large, knobbly tree. The only thing was that this one actually looked real. Which was nice.
And sure enough, there was a huge hole carved in the front, a clear exit to the second floor.
Time to-
RRRRAGHH!! WHO DISRUPTS MY FOREST!?
A billowing snarl came from within the oak! Within seconds, a larger version of the imps they'd previously slain burst out, sporting a woody shade of olive skin. He wore a light set of leather armor, and toted an axe that looked like it could cleave mountains!
...gulp.

Spaz twitched nervously, remembering his previous fight with the orc on the first floor. That had been tough, and this guy was armed. Still, this was obviously a computer scripted fight, so they shouldn't have too much trouble...
"Hey big guy, you know this isn't a real forest, right?" Spaz asked, knowing there was no real point in talking. Apparently the same shoddy programming that had created this pseudo-forest had created a boss monster that would challenge tresspassers to a fight at the drop of the hat for the most trivial of reasons. No real depth here, just a mindless challenge to be overcome.
Well, time to try something new. Spaz dashed up to the beast and drove his rigid fingers into the base of its neck near the collar bone, sending a small jolt of energy into its nervous system to hopefully short-circuit its motor skills and jumble its equilibrium.

Bingo. What a hit. Soon, the beast began to clutch his eyes in pain, wiling like a banshee. It was awesome. Shoulda gone on YouTube.
(Blinded! 2 turns.)
Kali took her opportunity to strike right now. Gripping the kotetsu, she rushed her opponent hard.

The Imp was furious now. Swinging his hammer wildly, he tried to massacre Spaz.

Spaz laughed as the monster flailed around like an idiot, and as it tried to find him he ducked behind it and swung his fists at the back of its head.

[In case you're wondering, it's not a D-10 for this one because of the whole boss-ness. Oh yeah, don't forget about the 5 MP from pressure point.]
The punches hit harder than usual.
(35 critical damage!)
[Yes, it's that small. Without actual fitted claw weapons, attacks won't do as much as they could.]
Realizing the possible force behind the wildly swinging axe, Kali tried to halt the Wood Imp's next turn.

"Whoa, way to go Kali!" Spaz had no idea she could do that. Matter of fact he didn't even have the slightest idea what a Manipulator could do. Now it was Spaz's turn, and since regular attacks weren't working, he'd just have to give it all he had.

As he charged up power, Kali bought him time. If the thing hit her, it would be disastrous...best to let Spaz take care of things for now. Once he was charged, she would strike as well.
