Atae reached up to the handle and looked down at Nahanni. "...It may be scary and unpleasant, but when you have a friend you care about that might need you, sometimes you have to go to them even when you really just want to hide." It was obvious she spoke from something she'd learned personally. She slowly opened the door a crack, concentrating on Ed, and saw him inside. "...See? 'S not so bad now..."

She finished opening the door and gave Ed an obviously worried look. He was trying to hide whatever it was; typical Ed. But it still showed. "...Bad dream?" It was a shot in the dark, but considering she almost always ran into him when he was napping or right after he'd woken up, it seemed like the thing to ask. He didn't have to elaborate, though if he would she'd try to help...

Endless sat down beside Lily, looking up at the ceiling with one of those thoughtful frowns on his faces that said he wasn't upset or anything, just thinking. Finally he looked back down and gave her a reassuringly playful nudge on the shoulder with his muzzle. "I love you, Lily, and while I'll never deny your beautiful and I wouldn't be anything resembling opposed to it, I hadn't really thought... that far ahead."

He shrugged lightly. He'd thought about it a couple of times, yes... and he'd enjoyed the thought, but there was a whole new type of relationship they'd have to build before he'd really consider it more than a happy daydream. He wanted to build his hopes around the real Lily and not just one he daydreamed about.

"I'm not sure how long exactly I've felt this way, but I only realized it a few days ago... I might like that, someday, but only if we're both sure. There's a rather important in-between from where we are now to get to that point." He grinned and shyly looked back up at the cieling. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, whatever might happen between us in the future Lily, I want you to follow your heart about it, and I'm happy whether we ever become more than friends or not. I'm just happy being with you, so I don't want you to feel forced or rushed just because of what I said."

He moved over to the door so he could open it for her. "Do you need to ask anything else?" He didn't really want to rush out the door or make her feel like she had to stay here and battle this out... but he wanted to make himself available if she needed to know anything else while they were on their own and she didn't have to worry about anyone else being around.

They were. They were empathic. Not just the 'oh I have empathy for you' variety either. Hemi kicked himself for not noticing it in his sister sooner. Perhaps that was the reason she was always sequestering herself away? Possible. He wondered if Nahanni's lessened reaction was because she did not know Edward as well, because she was only now showing signs of such a talent, or because Atae was simply stronger in said ability than she was. Whatever the case, Hemi would do his best to be there for them.

Now... what had upset Edward so that it caused the girls such clear distress? His garden variety empathy fueled by a kind heart went out Surely the pain now could not be the same Hemi had seen in the alchemist when he left the library? No. Whatever startled the girls had been more sudden.

~~~
The wild look to her eyes faded. She watched him studiously, as she would in a lesson to a professor, nodding that she heard and even if she did not understand at least had the information stored & tucked away. Gratefully Liliana took his nudge with a soft smile as it quelled her shaking, letting him continue until finished. It was almost forced, when Lily quiped up in an teasing voice. "It was a yes/no question..."
The rare moment of joking vanished and the winged female turned to face the door with him, her body lightly leaning on him as their fur brushed together. "Thanks. I appretiate you telling me." Her eyes smiled at his chivalry, then turned confused when he could not open the door. Realization was a little slow and when it came the crimson furred female laughed at herself. "The door's already open. Hopefully Atae's getting Edward."
Liliana leaned into her friend's stary pelt with a silly, nervous laugh. It was hard not to think about what he had told her -especially with Endless being right here- but he was attempting to not change her actions too much because of it. Some just could not be helped. "We're stuck until someone closes the door in the main room."
Golden eyes turned toward Atae, a mixture of emotions on his face until he gave a half hearted grin. "Yeah... nothing to worry about" he said in a soft voice, as if he wasn't really confinced of that. The alchemist quietly wondering how she had known, but he shrugged it off. Other kitsu seemed to have varying and surprising abilities.. many of which he was yet to discover.
The teen hopped down off the couch and moved toward the door, trying to put the dream out of his mind, but it was proving to be easier said than done. Still, he tried to feign atleast some cheeriness. "What's up?" he then asked, wondering what had brought Atae to find him. Surely she must have been looking for him.. for he couldn't think of any other reason she'd want to come to this particular foom.
The teen girl gave Atae a confused look, her mind replaying the words. She didn't....understand. She had no experience with the word friend, even with the few kitsus she had met. They were merely faces to greet and wave goodbye to. Would she ever be forced, or willing, to go out of her way for another? Her thoughts were cut off as the door was open, and she turned her head away, taking a quick peek at Hemi before focusing her eyes on the ground. From what she had read.....she didn''t want to make eye contact. Even so, her fur still stood on end at the vibrations coming from the opened room.
Atae tilted her head, frowning slightly. "...Well, if you ever wanna talk about it, I'll listen. OK?" He seemed to be doing his best to put whatever had happened out of mind, so she'd let it drop for now.
"Ah, well, dinner's almost ready, and we hadn't really gotten a chance to chat yet, and that's part of why I came over..." She lowered her eyes and shuffled at the carpet. "I miss you and Terasu, and I still don't know where he is." She stuck her tongue out. "I need a homing device for you two, I swear."
She shifted inside so the teens could follow if they wanted to and then shut the door, remembering that others might be needing it too. "So what have you been up to, anyway? Sorta got cut off earlier when you... went to finish your nap." She didn't think that was why he'd actually left, but... well, he had gone back to sleep if he'd been dreaming, so.
Endless stuck his tongue out at Lily and teased back in turn. "Well I am not in a yes or no mood today! You'll just have to deal with abstract." He smiled gently when she thanked him for his honesty and waited a moment before trying the door again. This time it opened. "Freedom!" He bowed her out again after opening the door wide enough to allow passage. "After you, M'lady." He was playful indeed today.
Hemi did not comment as he followed Atae into the room before the door shut, barely giving the unfamiliar room a second glance before seeking the fullmetal's golden eyes with his baby blues - an unspoken 'no one should bottle forever' within their depths. Remus & Nari's youngest knew it would not be good for Edward. Nor Liliana, if this new development made the alchemist draw away from her. "Ginny's got dinner started. Thought you wouldn't wanna miss it. And the girls were worried about you."
His cheerful smile was there, as was the happy flick of his tails but his eyes remained serious and concerned.
Crimson maw grinned, and Liliana felt both like a kit and a lady all at once as she playfully made a movement like a cross between bow and curtsy which was the best she could manage as one that walked on four legs. "Gramercy, M'Lord." she played back, listing her head and tails in a queenly manner and stepping past him into the main room. She did not make it very far inside before collapsing in a fit of silly & overly nervous giggles.
They did not last long. Edward. Her head shot up from where she had fallen to the ground. Green eyes looked aroundin concern. Where were the others?
Edward paused near Atae and Hemi as he came in. The alchemist listening to their words. He was quietly amazed.. she'd come to see him? However, those thoughts faded as golden eyes looked between the gazes of the two of them. The fullmetal teen swallowed hard, grimacing slightly. They knew something was wrong, but still.. he mustered up a smile. "I'm fine... and starving" he said as he walked past them. Liliana's question soon being answered as he came through the door and into the living room once more. However, as he passed her by, he didn't spare her so much as a glance. He couldn't look at her at the moment, he simply made his way toward the kitchen.
Nahanni remained where she was as the two entered the room and shut the door. The tension was gone, and the teen blinked in surprise. Was this...similiar to mothers ability? And did Atae have it too? She jumped as the door clicked, ready to open once more. Darting up, she shot back to her chair, curling up and ducking behind the armrest. She raised a brow as she heard Lily and Endless enter in a silly fit. She peeked her head over the chair, about to answer her question to the where-a-bouts of the others. The door, however, beat her to the answer. Nahanni's ears perked at the sound of the knob, and with her back shuddering, she flew off the chair and into the kitchen in a blur.
Atae just sort of... watched Ed walk out for a moment before following, missing Nahanni's dash for the kitchen because of her delay. She looked apologetically toward Lily and Hemi both. "Guess when he said he was starving he wasn't kidding..." She had a feeling that Ed's lack of regard might bother Lily, and that was the only thing she could think of to alleviate the red-furred female's feelings. Hemi seemed to have realized more about what had happened than he was letting on, but she didn't really know what to do about Ed. He confused her most of the time, to be honest, even if she did understand his tough-guy show of stoicism. "I guess I'll go see what's for food," she murmured softly, following after her friend at a pace that wasn't too fast, exactly, but was faster than necessary.
Endless followed Lily out, laughing, though he paused when she became suddenly concerned. The scene that followed when the others came out and Ed passed them, followed by Atae, hit at one of his deep-rooted concern buttons. But without knowing for sure what was going on either the young alchemist or the seemingly secretive Atae he had no idea what to do about it, if anything could be done.
He still felt lighter than he'd used to, though the completely lighthearted feeling and most of the playful attitude that had accompanied had passed now that he had the problem of what was going on with Ed and vicariously with Atae. "...Well, I guess you can't argue with hunger. Shall we?" He bowed one more time for Lily to preceed him, a smile still tugging at his muzzle even if it was more subdued this time.
"Guys rarely kid where food's concerned. And Ed's quite an eater!" Hemi conceded, letting some of his smile touch his eyes. Turning to follow the others out he caught his sister's innitial beaming smile at seeing Edward around the fullmetal through the open doorway. It was followed almost immediately by a crestfallen look of confusion and surprise as he went by, his name falling silently from her mouth when it was clear to Hemi that Liliana had been about to shout it in something like exaltation. Green eyes fllicked to Endless, as usual seeking comfort. The remnants of his grin drew her own forth however and Lily set aside her recent ache to continue their charade-game. "Yes. We shall." The crimson female countered playfully. Trotting towards the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen a very pregnant Ginny Weasley was alternating standing and sitting while using her wand to direct the cooking. She smiled that the majority of their hosemates would not be bothering them tonight. Having found the decaffenated tea the red-headed witch had come to the conclusion Endless was here. Now she could not know what transpired Ginny had her basic suspisions. So she had called in a favor from the twins while promising to send their supper to them later then sought the others who were primarily 'in control' around the home and explained her request to keep the familial horde as contained as possible. Trel had promised, hurriedly devising games to keep Tien, Theron, and many of the smaller or more childish personalities occupied. Luckily most of them preferred games to dinner so the later could esily be postponed.
Tonight's dinner was pretty simple. Mashed potatoes and sausage -bangers and mash- with cooked sides of asperagus an carrots. Simple for two reasons: if what she thought had happened did then anything too fancy could be disgreeable, and for herself some spices and seasonings were just not appetizing right now. Besides... Ginny had been craving this meal today. Strike up one for the pregnant female's perogative.
She nearly jumped as a blur darted into her kitchen, mor surprised at whom she thought the blur to be than the action itself. Nahanni? It mde her glance out the door however and she smiled welcomingly at the others making their way to the kitchen. Oh yeah. Something had happened. Ginny really wanted to know what. She did not say anything, just waved a paw to invite them all in & smiled that warm & welcoming smile.
If anyone told her she resembeled Molly Weasley in that moment she would probably have decked them. Just as she felt a surge of pride.
Later he would feel bad for worrying everyone so.. and for spoiling their mood... especially when Liliana and Endless were having a... special... moment. Although the thought didn't exactly bode well with him, but Edward had a strong will and he wouldn't upset his friends if he could help it. He had heard Liliana's laughter and seen her smiling in the library. He didn't want to take that from her. But even still, the fullmetal's own preoccupied thoughts and emotions weighed him down.
Edward was completely silent as he entered the kitchen. Although the aroma that wafted his way was simply divine. As hungry as he might have been before... he felt his appetite deminish. Seathing himself somewhere, all he did was stare as if he was in a world all to himself. Usually such behavior was warranted when pouting, and quickly quelled in the presense of food, but not today. It was safe to say that Ed was acting strange, but he kept it to himself. Not entirely realizing at the moment that keeping it to himself made it all the more strange and likely worrisome for those around him.
Nahanni skidded to a stop under the table, finally glancing around to catch her bearings. "Ginny?" She padded to the edge of the table and peeked up at the robed female, giving her a tiny, and somewhat embarrassed smile. Ears flicked forward as Edward entered the kitchen, followed by the others. Obediently, she hopped onto a chair at the table and waited patiently for the others to eat. c__c; Though, the teen was finding it difficult with the zoned out Ed sitting across the table. She sweat-dropped, and tried to focus her own mind and senses on other things, so as not to intrude on the other's thoughts. She needed distraction till the food arrived. Hug me Hemi! DX
Atae noticed Nahanni's discomfort, and she was pretty sure Nahanni had some sort of empathy too... and it likely wasn't as... selective as her own. Ed's behavior was bothering her, too, but her own sense had quieted down after the initial shock when he woke up from his dream. Still; someone needed to do something about it, and since Terasu wasn't here to distract Ed with his sibling rivalry, she'd have to. |=
She nudged Hemi toward his sister, and after an obvious moment of mustering up some courage, hopped up in a chair next to the oblivious Ed and wrapped one foreleg around his shoulders and proceeded to give him a noogie with her free paw. "Wake up, Ed, you look like a dead fish!" It sounded... sort of... like something Terasu would say and do to tease him, so hopefully it would snap him out of... whatever was going on. For a few minutes at least? Please? This sort of teasing was pretty out of character for her, and she felt entirely weird, but this was supposed to be a good time and she didn't like seeing her friends - and potentially new friend? - in such distressed moods.
Endless followed Lily into the kitchen and started slightly at seeing Atae do something so bold; then he just laughed again at her comment. Ed had looked a little like a dead fish, staring like that. If his mouth had been open there would have been no room for questioning the fact.
He pulled out a seat for Lily and waited until she was settled, murmuring something about, "Going to speak with the cook, M'lady," with his teasing grin still intact and tongue stuck out just slightly between his teeth. Then he trotted over to Ginny.
"You found the tea, I take it? I grabbed a few of each one I could find. Thought you might like a little variety." He figured her curiosity was up, especially with the "game" he and Lily were playing, and glanced toward Lily without turning his head where the others would notice in an attempt to indicate the expecting mother should ask her niece... later. "The one with the lemon zest in it is pretty good. Well, I like it anyway."
Courtesies and mild hints taken care of, he started to return to the table, but paused for a moment first. "You need any help serving?... You probably have it covered, though, huh?" He eyed the wand she carried with a slightly rueful smile.
((rofl @ Atae))
Ginny smiled at her shy niece, giving a nod that it was okay and the teen had only startled her before returning to last minute dinner preparations.
Blinking and grinning at Atae nudging him at all, Hemi trotted obediently over to his sister to give her a hug. He had been intending to do so, once he saw Nahanni sitting like that -but the nudge had been particularly nice. He would ask Aunt Ginny how she got the rest of the family not to show up to the scent of dinner later; Hemi was glad the group was small. Better for Nahanni & likely better for Atae too. Hopping to a seat beside Nahanni he snuggled her reassuringly even as he bust out laughing at seeing Atae nooggie Ed.
How long will we play this game? "Gramercy." Liliana wondered to herself as she accepted the proffered chair with exagerated regal dignity and a smile for all those gathered around. It was the smile of one trying to make light & cheerful of a difficult and unaccustomed situation. Ginny & Hemi silently cheered her for the effort. Games had never been easy for the studious daddy's girl.
Brown eyes sparkled with inner laughter. "Lemon zest, hm?" Her gaze flicked to Liliana's gold tips and Ginny almost laughed out loud, wondering if that too like the glance was tongue in cheek for the night-pelt male. "Yes. I found them quite well. I don't think it was a lemon zest one I set to seep though. Thank you, Endless. For the tea and the offer to help, but 'too many cooks' you know." She winked and sent bowls & plates whizzing from the counter to be filled and set on the table before each seat. "Don't worry, I'll get to everything in time."
Her eyes danced merrily at this word game, knowing that for certain it would at least go over Liliana's pretty head. She worried at Ed's apparant lack of appetite though. He had always eaten well, being in the eating department like Shippou, Miaka, & Zell. Oh yes. Even Ginny could see something was wrong. darn it.. most frustrating, this not knowing!
The 'zoned out' Edward was most startled as he was brought out of his quiet staring by Atae. His head and shoulders yanked towards her only to get noogied on the top of his head. "AGH!" he shouted in protest eyes wide as his limbs flailed a bit. "I do not!" Who is she calling a dead fish?! Puh. Atleast she hadn't called him short. He scowled in a pouting manner at the teasing, ears flattening backward... and when he finally did get out of Atae's grip, he seemed a bit more awake than before. However, his gaze slid towards Liliana and Endless. A tiny frown and he fell silent again... although again blinking in surprise as the plates came whizzing through the air and settled before each of them. As delicious as the food looked and smelled, he resorted to only picking at it... his stomach feeling like it was in knots. A sideglance was given to Atae, and then he looked forward at Nahanni... quietly wondering. He wasn't staring into an oblivion anymore, but he was still quiet.
