Man I guess I am the only one who will come out and say...I HATE RIZA HAWKEYE!!!! Now to explain....She hangs around Roy too much and should go get her own life. PLus...she's just to goddy goddy. Always doing something good for Roy, or for Hughes. I just get sick of watching her....
Yes I am a Roy Fan but I am not as obsessed as others are...I just think Riza is a pain in the...well you know...
SOME ONE WHO FEELS THE SAME WAY I DO!!!
eek >< I still don't see why you don't like her. Because none of what Master-Kris said made sense to me...
Goody-goody? Hardly... she's the opposite... if she were such a goody-goody, would she threaten Roy? (Highlight: could be considered a spoiler) Would she drop-kick him!?*sigh* Such a shallow way of thinking. (and I don't mean shallow as in "vain" or "preppy")Actually, her threatening Roy is quite normal (and come to think of it, if you had to do that to make him work, then you'd probably do it to, or else he'd be without a job) considering Roy's ever so present problem of procrastination. Hmm... about her being goody-goody...
Riza is not a 'goody-goody,' necessarily. Yes, she's loyal to Roy and everything, but if she had to kill a person to save Roy's life, regardless of the circumstances, then she'd do it. She, like Havoc, Breda, Farman, Fury, and the other people who support Roy are all counting on him to become a Fuhrer to help stop another massacre from happening. She's dedicated her life to protecting Roy from harm for that very reason. Thus, if someone, whether it be a gang of thugs, a group of assassins, or a crazed ex-girlfriend out for revenge, tried to kill or harm Roy (and thus possibly ruin any chances of a brighter future for Amestris), then Riza would take them down without a second thought. She might feel bad for killing those people (at least the crazy ex-girlfriend, maybe...), but she has her priorities. The top most priority is to keep Roy alive and in line. Compared to most female characters in anime, she's got balls. Um, as in she's one tough cookie.
Sadly, the anime does little for Riza as a character, and she's much more interesting in the manga version. You know, like when Barry the Chopper fell in love with her, and how she kept threatening to kick his a** everytime he tried to pull a move on her.
Hmm... and about those girl characters that are sweet, loving, kind, and all that good stuff... They are far more goody-goody than Riza will ever be. Although I also enjoy those type of characters too (since they can be cute, and I like cute things), the whole concept is so overdone in most animes that it gets old. I mean, when you take a look at all the anime that's out there, there is usually at least one (sometimes more depending on the genre and the target audience) character (usually female) that is kind, caring, loving, and sweet to everything in there. They also tend to be rather cutesy in their mannerisms and are gentle in nature... Riza can be these things at times, but unlike these other female characters, she can actually kick a** left, right, and center and not break a sweat. I don't mind characters who are dependant on other characters, but sometimes a character like Riza is necessary, because she's different and not a stereotype...
Also, she does have a life of her own, as do all the other characters. Sadly, we only get to see them while they're on the job. Her life (from what I've been able to gather so far from limited resources) consists of keeping Roy out of trouble (otherwise he'd be six feet under), taking care of her dog Black Hayate, reading romance novels (I honestly didn't see that one coming), and basically living an average life. However, we see almost none of this in either the anime or the manga.
Oh my, there I go rambling again...
sweatdrop Well, whether you want to hate her or not is your own business, but I just felt like pointing out some things. Because I'm wierd like that.
