Jhovam closed his eyes, then tried to calm himself down. Once he managed to control his breathing, he reached out tentatively to Ygrashmak.
'Ygrashmak?'
For a moment, he heard nothing. He started to worry again, but a response came. 'Jhovam?'
'Oh, thank the stars! You are all right!'
'Nothing I can't handle.'
Jhovam frowned slightly. 'Is everything all right?'
' . . . It was not. But we are alive. Do not worry.'
'"We"? Who is "we"?'
'Uhh . . . forget I said anything. Look, I'll come to you. But I am a bit busy now.'
'Err . . . okay.'
Jhovam mentally retreating from the distant mind. It felt weird - Ygrashmak wasn't usually that brief. Did something happen? Something big?
"Something is o-off."

Did you not reach him? she asked, not knowing any better. Did you get any thing from him at all? What did he say?
Amil nudged him with her scaly nose in an attempt to bump some information out of him.

"I talked to him, yes. H-he said that he would come to m-me." Jhovam nodded more to himself than Alabaster Amil. He hesitated before he went on.
"He said 'we', and I do not know who the other person is. And h-he sounded distracted. He doesn't n-normally sound distracted."
Jhovam looked around again. His ally would come to him - that was reassuring. However, the little ex-slave boy still felt worried. His body ached, but he didn't know why. He figured the small, stabbing pains he recently felt were from the flying, but he wasn't too sure anymore. What if he felt Ygrashmak's pain?

Amil's concern melted away, her head slinking back to rest on her foreleg. Then he must be well, or well enough, she insisted. You, on the other hand, need your sleep. Perhaps in the morning we can strengthen your connection and find out more.
