azeil_death J O N 6 6 Metal is a genre of music. Thats all. Music cannot save you, music cannot be your life. Any music is considered an art form. Art is catagorized by something that emits deep emotional feeling. So basically any sound is art. Hell, its not even that great of a music genre. Most metal is very generic vocally talentless. Rap is where the real vocal talent exists. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Rap! Ill admit alot of metals vocals arnt that great but rap? They can rhyme...so what! Fat Joe for example he can say crack a whole bunch of times for no reason....there is no talent there. It is extremely hard to rap. Not everyone can get the right flow and rhythm. It takes many years of practice to get things right. And considering you have to basically start your career in the underground music scene batteling, all the chumps are weeded out. The lyrics themselves have nothing to do with the skill needed. Alanis Morisette can also sing Crap a bunch of times, but that does not make her untalented. Look beyond the mainstream.

Years of practice? what about all of those "lil" rappers that have no place to step in an underground club? Theyre just rich.

Well first off their is different kind of metal.nu-metal,symphonic metal, death metal, ...ect. Metal to me is two guitars with distortion a bass player and drummer. And it would not be complete with out the vocals. Yelling and gargiling are what makes metal, metal.

I realize I already posted but I would like to elaborate. I take back what I said, I will not go as far as to call metal a way of life, nor will I call any other musical style a way of life. Metal is a type of music that I can relate to, I enjoy the complexity that makes it metal the instrumentals that make it different than all else. I like to research what metal is, and I like to debate about metal.
Metalbob16, I find that offensive. First of all Nu-Metal is not a type of metal, youre basically saying that anyone with a bassist, guitarists, a drummer, and a gruff vocalist is metal. Wow. So basically what youre saying is that anything with a heavy "hurdcure" sound to it is metal?
Jon, I have to agree, rapping isnt as easy as it looks. I'm not a rap fan at all but I have to give some acknowledgment to the skilled rappers.

Metal is mainly music. Most ofit I can relate tosomehow. Though there is probably a Webster definitionof metal the question is what is mea to us as individuals. So continuing wit what I was saying, Metal is mainly music to me but also a dress sense and in a way a philosophy as well. Every metal artist has one and sings about it in some way and sometimes it intertwines with our philosophies. To me metal is about being true to yourself and others even if that means non conformity.
Thus Metal is philosophy and music. That is not to say that it can save you or anything but it can at least be an outlet. Anyway I'm beginning to ramble. All I know is that music and especially metal can be a reflection of your mood and philosophy.

Metal is anger, aggression, everything that is seen as impure by the rest, thats what Metal stands for. Metal is what allows people like us who have so much aggression to express it, and it allows us to make entire communities based on our love for what is in its most basic form a collection of sounds.
