Akana screamed her rage at Taka, lashing him with her tail. The tuft on the end whipped against Taka's face like a whip, and Akana knew that the blow must have hurt. She took the moment to kick out with her back leg, landing a direct hit on Taka's beak. Akana darted away, landing on the ground before Taka could catch up with her. She glanced at the human, holding up the glass. Akana shuddered, hurrying into the cave. She did not like to fight. She really didn't, but if it involved protecting herself and Torak....Where was Torak? Akana, now in the safety of the cave, scanned the hills for the familiar patch of brown feathers. She finally spotted him, curled up against the large blue female.
Torak had never felt so comfortable. He hadn't grown up with a mother, and being able to curl up beside someone like a chick was something big for him.
Asriel was so scared. He shook violently, backed up against the wall of the cave. Taka was beside him. Asriel had never cried before this, for he was very young. But he cried now. He sobbed and sobbed, screaming his sadness into the open night. He knew the hunter would come and get him and take him away from his home, but he didn't care anymore. He wanted his mother, more than anything. To curl up around him and tell him everything would be ok. Asriel crawled to the entrance of the cave, looking out again. Where was his mother? And the hunters, where had they gone? The clearing was empty, except for a large pool of blood, exactly where his mother had fallen. The hunters had left with his mother, leaving him and Taka to die. Asriel crawled back into the cave, knowing full well that the two would starve without their mother's milk.
