Smoke wafted about the high ceiling as V extinguished his second cig and heard the door click behind him whilst he still typed away at the alien keyboards.

"Hey Lorna, Strange with you?"

V compiled the data into a singular file and eliminated the duplicate data. Leaving only two long sequences of a pattern. One in return signals and the other in static.

Brail looked at the floor right outside the room everyone was in. Almost talking to himself, he said "What if the signal...isn't for us." He was talking to himself. Everyone was inside the room talking and argueing. "Maybe, it's for something else." He listended more carefully now.

"She's right here." Nodding back to the girl behind her, Lorna leaned against the doorframe, still somewhat recovering from the bout of dizziness she'd had on her way. Probably too much coffee. "What have you found?" Massaging her temples, she sucked in a breath and let it out in a sigh, the smoke only somewhat irritating her lungs. "What have you found?"

V spun the chair about its axis and tossed the pack he had emptied across the room into a pile of like packages and wires. Without looking he tapped three key sequences and two huge LCD monitors facing the door lit. One was showing the static sequence and the other the returned signals.

"There is a pattern here, and I cannot complete extrapolate it from the background noise. From what I have seen it is written in something like binary code, except for the fact it has at least 18 different levels of dual digits. The computer is working for a match in the cultural archives, but for now, We are left we only the returned Signals pattern. I broke it down and it is only one word despite being so long:
O R A N N Y C E.
So far, I have no clue what it means. Now, Lorna, you said you tracked the origin of the thing?"

V leaned foward and offered her a seat on the other side of the console. There was another for Strange, but it was covered with a few sheets of paper that would have to be moved.

Brail put his ear on the door trying to make out what poeple are saying. He grabbed out a notebook and a pen and jotted down everything he heard. He would later look at the evidence and see what he could do about it.Probably nothing but sometimes, sometimes, there is something. Some help that he could do.

As soon as the patterns were displayed across the screen, cobalt eyes were flashing over the information presented, analyzing any sort of meaning. Her head tilted slightly as the data rolled through her head, trying to make connections. Moving slowly, tentatively, her eyes never leaving the screen, she lowered herself into the seat offered beside Vincente, crossing one leg over the other with hands folded demurely in her lap. A nod was her reply to the man’s question, as she seemed somewhat fascinated by the word he’d offered. “Orannyce…” Why did the word seem so familiar, yet, just in the edges of her consciousness? It was like she was seeing something she’d known her entire life for the first time… a sensation difficult to explain. Shaking her head quickly and blinking away the oncoming dizziness, she replied firmly, “Yes, the object seems to have come from a small planet, in a galaxy neighboring our own. Based on the scans it is approximately as large as Venus, and has definite signs of life. The odd part is, it has a construction unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, with a surface terrain similar to that of Mars, and an atmosphere like Neptune’s. We haven’t decided to classify it as gaseous or otherwise as of yet, it’s split almost fifty-fifty. And honestly, there must be some pretty extraordinary life forms there to survive those conditions.”

V stroked his chin, feeling the five o'clock shadow underneath his fingers as he did. He really wished he had more cigarettes. A smile split his face as he thought of his addictive personality and chuckled as he thought of how none of that was present before the GIB. He turned his attention properly to Lorna as he turned over the nature of the planet she had described and silently ticked off numbers on his fingers. At 0 a sound like a wind chime rang on the computer.

"Object vaporized"

V leaned back and considered the nature of the life forms.

"Have we had any contact with the inhabitants of.... what was the planet's name again?"

“We’ve simply nicknamed the planet Z for now, until we can come up with a more accurate name. Thus far, there hasn’t seemed to be any contact… until this code, however. By the looks of it, the whole purpose of the object was to deliver this O R A N N Y C E to us, not to inflict any harm or otherwise.”

Though V didn’t express in any way his want for another smoke, Lorna produced one from her pocket, holding it between two manicured fingers as she offered it to him with a grin. “Another?”

"I really should quit, but I need it to think as well as I used to. Too much stress, but I'm sure you know."

V nestled the cigarette behind his ear, though he had only moved slightly to all appearances, somehow snatching the tube from her hand during the motion.

"For later." he winked and leaned back.

"So, I suppose until we manage to decode the damn static transmission we have to assume that the message Orannyce was for us. I don't know how long it will take me to crack the sequence, even though I used to specialize in hacking codes from systems. I want you to try and get on the com with someone who knows about the planet and see what you can dig up. Er.... Be sure the planet it still there. I think that galaxy is in the same quandrant of sky as the missing stars. Wrong direction I think though.... "

V was mumbling to himself mostly before he shook his head and spoke up again.

"Er, anyways, I'll contact you once I finish. See what you can dig up on both the device's origin and if possible "Orannyce."

He reached up and placed the cig in his mouth, flicking it to life and inhaling deeply before focusing on the monitors as his fingers danced along discordant keyboards.

Ricepaper let out a tiny sigh of relief. It seemed Agent V and Lorna had the situation under control, and so for at least a while Ricepaper was exempt of the duty to think. For a moment she was silent before, without speaking, she went over to a computer and began hastily typing into it. After a moment of scanning the page, she sighed and closed out what she was doing.

"Nope. No search results on Google," she said with dissapointment. As mentioned before, she could be like a child, and she hated technology.

Right after everyone finished talking SK44 went right back to the cafeteria to finish his lemonade, figuring that if they needed him they would contact him.

"I'll get right on it." Standing, she meandered to the doorway, lingering at the exit for a moment, she turned back around for just a moment, lips parted as if to speak again... but a darkness drifted over her features, and she seemed to decide against whatever she'd been about to do, and left the room without another word, heading back toward the reasearch rooms. As she walked, she pulled a small device from her pocket, and sent out a member-wide memo to every G.I.B. agent in the complex.

Anyone with information on the Planet Z, contact Agent 003 as soon as possible. Thank you.

Pressing the send button, she re-pocketed the device, something disturbing nudging the edge of her mind as she walked, slowly and thoughtfully. Uneasy, she found a free computer in the Research and Development department, and sat herself down, her fingers moving languidly over the keys as they were accustomed to now. Eyes fixed on the screen, she watched it without really seeing as her mind swam for answers.

He put away his notes and headed for the breakroom. There was noone there so he took out his notes and studied them. He could barely read his own handwriting. "Maybe I need to take a little bit more time when writing down some notes next time." He said to himself. At first he didn't get what was going on but after awhile he kinda got it. He still couldn't understand the code they were talking about.

V took a deep breath and rubbed his eyes. He could swear he had been staring at the screens so long they were running together and when he stood up he winced from the pain that only came from muscles gone stiff from disuse. For that matter, his eyes hurt too and with a startling realization he found out how long he'd been sitting in the same room working on trying to seperate the code.
"Damn... it's 9... missed lunch... heck, I missed dinner."
At the thought of food his stomach made its protests known and with a deep sigh he exited the room heading towards the food court. There wouldn't be many people around, just those working as late as he was and those just getting off of their patrols. Another lonely meal by himself. He wasn't terribly fond of eating alone, he had gotten used to it after all of his partners kept getting killed, but it was a stab of nostalgia from before his life in the GIB that was the most unwelcome recollection.
The cafeteria was dimly lit, the normally bright lights dimmed for mood's sake and heavy shadows made it feel more cozy like some secret retreat for those on a date or a warm room where one could relax.
It worked a little too well and V, still caught in his bout of nostalgia sat at a table, not even thinking of the food he came to get. Instead his hand traveled to his pocket and he took out a well worn picture of himself and a few friends back from when he was know as Vince. Behind it was another such picture, but the man standing and laughing was V, and the picture itself was fairly newer. He stared at them both for a time, not noticing the comings and goings of those around him, what little there was and briefly his mind flitted on the hope someone would stop and offer to have a conversation over the meal he needed to get still.
