[Small Journeys.]
It was dark out, the sun had long since gone down, leaving the island a bit cooler than it was during the day. In her bed Sanar shifted and grumbled until finally opening her eyes and sitting up, flapping her wings.
Looking around the child smiled as she realized it was dark time, she liked the dark, and her mother was usually asleep and wouldn't run after her when she went to her treasure hoards. Quietly the Aerandir child slipped out of her bed, it was too bad her hooves always- Sanar looked down at the shirt she'd stepped on.
Her hooves hadn't clicked! She looked around and grabbed another article of clothing her mother had left out. After pawing at them a bit she managed to get both pieces of cloth more or less attached to her feet and continued carefully down the ladder.
Once she reached the door Sanar had to fight with the cloth to get it off. Storing the useful clothing in her bag she hopped up and turned the doorknob by throwing her weight to the side. Still dangling a bit the door clicked open and slid back. She let go then quickly slipped out and away into the night.
It didn't take long for her to reach her nearest hideout. It was a simple hole atop a small rise in the field. She'd put one of Chao's shirt sleeves atop it then recovered it with dirt that last time she was here and had to push it away and get her fingers all dirty, but that was fun too!
With a giggle she threw the dirt up in tufts around her, shoveling and pawing until the dark blue color came into view and she pulled aside her cloth. This was a small collection but she smiled at the coins and papers, tacks and buttons all shoved inside.
Shifting her bag Sanar reached inside and pulled out several egg shells first, they'd broken a bit but were still okay. Gently she tucked them with one of the extra shirtsleeves. Then there was the butter knife she'd found on the floor, the shiny disk like thing that made rainbows on one side while the other was just red, a bit of Loki and Rein's fur, tied with a piece of grass, went in next and finally a shard of glass from Faust's jar. She had another one she kept at home, but having one here was better!
Looking at the portion of her collection she nodded and pulled back the shirt sleeve and tucked it over the hole. After reburying it she stood up, stretched and took off at a run towards home.
When Chao awoke it was to the sight of an extremely dirty Sanar sleeping in her bed. Groaning the guardian threw an arm over her eyes and mentally prepared a 'Sanar, you know you're not supposed to sneak out at night-' lecture.

[The Appearing Act.]
Sanar lay and stared at the small creature sitting on her chest. She wasn't at all sure where it'd come from, just that it'd seen fit to use her as a bed.
"Lolo?" she greeted curiously. A gently quack sounded from the corner of the room as Ron woke up and wandered towards them, hopping up onto the bed. The new gryph chirped curiously at her mouth sounds and trotted forward to but its head against her chin.
Tentatively the Aerandir child raised a hand a gently pat at the new small gryph, in return she chirped louder and beat her wings a few times in pleasure. Sanar smiled and let out a chirp of laughter as, obviously annoyed at the new gryph getting so much attention, Ron but his head against the new gryph, goat ears flicking in annoyance.
From somewhere off in the corner Cian grumped in annoyance at the excess of sound, snapping his puffin beak before rolling over and burying his head in Rein's fur. Rein huffed out a breath in response and flicked his tail up and over the gryphon's head.
Sanar giggled at the flurry of small motions the new gryph has set off just by being there. Using both her hands she managed to pet both the new gryph and Ron.
"You need'a name..." she murmured to the air. Thinking of all the mouth sounds she knew and the stories Chao had read to her at night. "How about... Karma?"
The gryphon wasn't paying her any mind, opting instead to squirm away of her hand, jump into the air and tackle Ron. The two miniature gryphons tumbled down the blankets and onto the floor.
Sanar made a face, "Karma!"
The gryphon perked momentarily.
Sanar, smiling the pleased smile of one who'd found something that seemed to fit, scrambled up and over to the ladder. "Com'on Karma! Give Ron a break! Let's go play in the grass!"
Karma gave Ron one last look and lashed her tail, telling the other gryphon that that was not the last tackle he'd be on the receiving end of, and flew after Sanar.
Ron let out a small groan of a quack, lashed his stubby goat tail and flew onto the abandoned bed, curling up in the covers and going to sleep. If he was going to have to deal with the new gryph later on he wanted to be well rested.
Later that day Sanar would stumble on an abandoned purple envelope and stash it away in one of her hoards before Chao could ever see it or attempt to identify where it had come from of why there were so many claw marks littering the edges.

[And while you debate half empty and half full....]
Sanar stood, hand behind her back, attempting to be as straight as a rod, but the action was made difficult by the fact that she was standing on uneven sand.
"Karma, Ron, Cian, we haff b'en gived a mission," Sanar said, trying to deepen her voice and sound imposing. It didn't work very well, but the mini-gryphs seemed to be attentive anyway. "We 're to find n'colle't as many sheels as we ca' before Mu," she pointed at her mother, who was currently relaxing a ways away, bathing suit in place and a book in one hand the teen looked up as Sanar mentioned her and waved the stopwatch, "say we 're outta time. Redy?"
A klack, a chirp and a quack resounded, all of which sounded positive.
"Ready?" Chao called from the sidelines, putting down her book.
"Re'dy!" Sanar called back.
"On your mark... get set... GO!" Chao chuckled as the Aerandir and minigrphys tore across the sand, gathering and pushing at shells. Chao grimaced as the minigrphys made avid attempts to overcome the handicap of not having hands then looked back down to her stopwatch.
After another few minutes the teen called out "time!" and the group ceased its gathering.
"How we do?" Sanar asked, grinning and not even breathless. Hopping from one hoof to the other.
"Pretty big pile, see?" Chao pushed the pile that had been accumilated on the towel further towards the quartet. She laughed at the group's slightly digruntled look. Many of the shells were broken or cracked. "Do you want to do another run?"
"Yeah!" Sanar cheered, and, much to Chao's surprise, quickly picked up the shells and rescattered them. Without explaining herself the Aerandir looked over her shoulder, "ready Mu!"
"Okay San! Ready... set... GO!" and the quartet was off again.
They ended up doing two more runs before the quartet was satisfied with their findings. At that point Chao was forced to abandon her safehaven on her towel and was bodily dragged into the ocean by Sanar. A game of tag began and didn't end until the sun was lapping at the horizon and the tired group headed home.

A clatter of ivory hooves and a flutter of ivory feathers announced Nehanda's arrival on the porch. Looking down, she checked the address, and nodded. This was the place! It would be good to see Sanar again, and Nehanda was very eager to fulfill this little mission of hers.
Reaching back for her carry-sak, she pulled the strap off of her shoulder and opened the small bag, checking its contents yet again to ensure that they had survived the flight intact. Pleased at the sight of the seed pod nestled safely withing its wrappings, she smiled and knocked on the door.

The clatter of something on the porch made Chao look up. For aproximately half a second. The guardian's eyes slid to the door, saw that it was still intact, and snapped back to her book.
Sanar's ears twitched and she looked over her shoulder at her mother, who's legs she was currently sitting on as she idly braided long blades of grass into a bracelet, occassionally pursing her lips as she did her best to work in bits of shell and various other things.
"Mum, is someone here?" she asked, ears twitching, trying to catch any other sounds from the porch.
"'unno," Chao murmured distractedly, eyes glued to her book.
Sanar waited for a moment, decided that her mother was hopeless and scooted off Chao's lap, meandering towards the doorway to investigate herself.
"'Lo?" she called once she got close to the door, eying the door handle.
Chao's eyes flit from the book, "Sanar, don't open the door 'til we know who it is." It could be another 'David' character.
"'Kay."

Nehanda was a bit taken aback by the cautious greeting from within. It was somewhat different then the instantaneous welcome she had received elsewhere. She tried to lean over to peer through a window, but there were none close enough to give access without her walking away from the door. With a shrug, she called out, "Hi, it's, um, it's Nehanda, from Cetalu. I'm looking for Chao and Sanar? I have something to give them. We, uh, we met a while ago, on the beach by the land bridge?"

"Handa!!!!" Sanar cheered, the other Aerandir's voice was different, but still Handa.
Without waiting for her mother Sanar hopped up and grabbed the doorknob, twisting it and pushing it open.
Sanar blinked at this taller version of Handa, "Handa, you got big~" she stated in awe before grinning and shaking off the change, hugging the taller girl.
Chao smiled at her daughter's enthusiasm and put down her book, glad it wasn't going to need to be used as a impromptu weapon, since, honestly, she really liked it.
Standing she smoothed her skirt a little and headed over to the door, "heya Nehanda! Of course I remember you, " Foenix's little (well, not so little anymore, eh?) "I'm sorry about the caution, we had a run in with a rather shady type a little while ago so..." she shrugged, trailing off. Stupid David. "But, anyway, how are you? You've gotten so tall."
"Handa has pressies?" Sanar asked, catching the older girl's mention of giving them something.

Nehanda bent down and happily returned Sanar's hug. "Yeah, I grew up a little while ago. It was really neat!" Straightening, she blushed a bit as she greeted Chao. "Pueblo and I were able to take our growth quests a few weeks ago. Life's been a little busy. We learned . . . well, we learned a lot about things . . ."
She trailed off, frustrated yet again by the promise to keep all of this secret from the humans. "But it's so good to see you both again! I'm sorry to interrupt your afternoon, but yes, I do have a present, of sorts." She grinned down at Sanar's eagerness. Stepping inside, she looked around for a place to set her carry-sak, but decided to just hold it.
"Um, one of the things I learned on my quest was that, well, it's all a little confusing, but the jars that you received Sanar's Fluff and Feather in were just something the scientists came up with. I believe that this is what was originally used to contain the pieces." Reaching into her bag, she carefully extracted the seed pod from its wrappings. It was a dark rust brown, about twice the size of her fist. "Acia agrees with me. She gave me two sets of fluff and feathers, which I placed inside these seed pods. The pedicel will stay held in place by the wax I added, until the gryphon is ready to emerge.
"Acia told me that you should get one of the sets, so I brought it over for you."

Sanar giggled and watched closely, tilting her head at the seed pods.
Chao smiled, part of her mind idly noting the frustrated ring of the Aerandir's voice and decided against prying, rather she gestured for Nehanda to sit down and pondered grabbing drinks.
Eh, it could wait a moment. "Don't worry, it's no interuption, we were just lazing about anyway," she said with a wave of her hand, watching curiously as the Aerandir extracted the seed pod.
Sanar watched closely and stepped forward, gently taking the seed pod from Nehanda. The younger Aerandir sat down where she stood, running her fingers over the seed pod's casing lightly, sensitive fingertips taking in the textures. Things that nature made were woven the bestest. "It's warm..." she murmured, running a finger over the wax but showing none of her usual desire to take apart things. Inately she knew that taking the seed pod apart would be horrible.
She looked up to Nehanda, "there gryphon in here?"
Chao blinked and nodded slowly, taking it all in slowly.
"An organic way of incubating a gryphon makes a lot of sense... that's wonderful that you've figured out how to do it," she replied with honest enthusiam. Growing up in a country obsessed with war made one rather appreciative of organic things and creation in general.
A vague memory of signing her name on a list saying she'd be ready and willing to take care of another Aerandir flit through her mind and belatedly the teenager realized what this actually meant. She felt a warm flush of excitement at the idea of rasing another Aerandir along with Sanar, not to mention the fact that having a sibling would, undoubtedly, do Sanar herself some good.
Sanar was realizing the same thing, "brothersister in here?" she said, looking up at the taller Aerandir and her mother excitedly.

Nehanda nodded in response to Chao's obvious approval of her discovery. "This is still all in an experimental stage, though," she warned. "Acia didn't know any more about it then I do, and I'm working off of hunches and feelings. And I really have no idea what'll happen when the gryphon's ready to come out. He or she may pop the stem out, or the entire thing may burst . . . and I can't even tell you how you'll know when everything's going to happen."
Curious, she knelt by Sanar and ran a finger over the pod's rough surface. As always, the energy within warmed her skin and sent a sensation like electricity up her hand. "Do you feel anything else from the pod, Sanar?" As an herbalist, she had an instinctual bond with any plant, and Acia was an Earth spellweaver. Sanar was only the third Aerandir to hold this pod, and Nehanda was curious as to whether they could all feel the potential and power within.
She craned her head around so that she could see Chao. "If it's not too much to ask, do you think you could let me know how things turn out? I'm keeping the second pod for myself, but I'd like another set of observations. Actually, maybe I could just fly over every now again . . . and Sanar and I could go out and play!"

"Hunches and feelings are how the best discoveries are made," Chao grinned and turned pensive, "exploding seedpod, huh. Oh well, if it makes a mess we can always wash off ourselves... and the area if necessary."
Sanar tilted her head a bit before she let her eyes slide closed and splayed a hand completely over the surface of the pod. The younger Aerandir took in the texture and the feeling of it, the shape and working in the knowledge that there was something, someday to be someone, inside.
To a weaver it was a little easier to understand about form and function, even though Sanar herself couldn't exactly put that idea into words yet.
"It's reeeeally warm... like it's alive," she noted curiously. Though if there was going to be gryphonbrothersister inside, that made sense. "Feels like jars, cept warmer, better, more fitting, sat'sfed. It's meant to do this," she stated with sudden, sharp certainty, patting the pod itself gently. Opening her eyes she looked up to Nehanda and smiled.
Chao smiled, listening to her daughter curiously, "that sounds excellent. We could visit as well, I don't think we've ever been to Cetalu. And I'm sure Sanar would appreciate ge-"
"Play~!" Sanar cheered, interupting her mother and flapping her wings in glee at the idea of seeing Handa more often.

Nehanda grinned at Sanar's answer. These were the same sensations she herself received from the pod. "Well, I guess that settles it. Sanar, you have to take really good care of that pod, okay? Let the gryphon know that you can't wait for him to come out and play. I'll bet Chao will show you just what she did when you were in your jars."
Standing, she shook out her wings a bit, trying to straighten feathers without extending the wings fully. "That sounds terrific, Chao. And Foenix would love to see you. Don't tell her I said this, but I think she's a little at loose ends since I grew up. One morning, I'm a child, and when I come back in the evening, I'm grown up and I know all the stuff she's been trying to teach me."
"I need to run, because I'm supposed to meet someone in a bit, but feel free to come visit any time!" She looked down at Sanar as she turned toward the door. "I'll come back to visit really soon, okay? I promise!"

Sanar grinned and nodded firmly, determination shining in her eyes, "I will!" the little girl probably would've saluted, had she known how.
Chao chuckled, "now she's never going to let go of it," she murmured without malice.
At Nehanda's comment she smiled and nodded, "I'm looking forward to seeing her too! Though... well, I can only imagine how she's feeling, most parents get to have years before their kids get to where you are, snap growths and always a little shocking and sad, in their own way." The teen smiled sadly, thinking of her family back in Durem.
"'Kay," Sanar replied with a smile, still cradeling the seedpod carefully.
"Oh... Nehanda?" Chao asked suddenly, blinking down at the seedpod Sanar was holding, "do you know, or do you think we'll know, what this little one's gender is going to be before they arrive?" Calling the seedpod and it's resident 'it' promised to get old rather fast.
