Waya pressed his ears to his head, turning to look in DS's direction. The smile on his face turned into a small frown as he watched the woman. "How soon is soon?"
Though if DS took the boy now, Waya wouldn't have to deal with the responsibilty and could happily watch the TV like he wanted.

The hopeful look on both boy's faces was almost too much to go against, but the image of bright orange faces all over her walls ended up winning out. "I'm sorry Waya, but I think it's nowish soon. Though I'm glad to see you two getting along so well... we'll have to arrange another playdate soon."
Waiting was annoying. His friends always had to leave when it was fun. But maybe there would be more yummies at home, and there would be more fun soon... After some consideration Karan nodded reluctantly. "Soom," he added emphatically.

Seeing as he was no out numbered on the time limit, Waya too nodded, a tiny smile appearing once more on his lips. "Ok... Soon then." He did a once over of DS, cautiously looking the woman over before his attention turned towards the TV, a light hope that his favorite show would come on.

"I'll make sure to talk to Ballie so we can do this again- soon. Since you're being so good about it." DS packed Karan up while she spoke, and when she was ready she turned back to Waya. "Thank you, for watching him while we were working. I hope you settle in well."
They may have been leaving, but that didn't mean that he had to like it. "Baibai!" Karan yelled, then let himself be carried out of the house.

Waya watched quietly as DS came and lifted Karan out of his lap to leave. Soon came too soon! He couldn't help but frown in disappointment, his ears pressing back against his head in thought. Should he ask for more time? No.. It wasn't like the two were doing much anyway.
"I'll walk you out..." He said sternly, as if he wouldn't take no for an answer! Because he wouldn't have. His feet padded lightly on the ground as he walked besides DS. But just as he reached up for the door knob, wanting to opening it for the woman he froze.
"Wait... Please don't go yet." Instantly his ears were perked up, and a smile on his face. Oh, was he up to something? "Just don't go, ok?"
Before DS could even get a chance to answer Waya had turned on the balls of his feet and did the 50 meter dash down the hallway. From the kitchen Ballentine could be heard shouting for whatever child it was to stop running in the house. The woman would have shown her friend out had Briciru not dropped the bag of flour then ran around the kitchen covered white like a ghost.
Waya was gone for a few minutes, going as fast as he could. Two by two he came down the stairs, hopping down the last few. He wanted to go as fast as he could, thinking that if he didn't make it back quick enough that DS would get impatient and leave. But he was relieved to see the woman still standing there waiting for him.
Taking long strides instead of running, he panting just a bit as he came up to DS's side. Both hands were shoved up towards Karan to reveal:
"Here... I want you to have this Karan." He said after taking a moment to catch his breath.

At first Karan was puzzled by the wait, but he squealed happily when presented with a gift. A new toy, just for him! And it was so squishy! And it looked a little bit like the fuzz, but without being fuzzy at all. Giggling he pressed it to his cheek, squeezing it and feeling the insides change form.
"That's so sweet Waya," DS commented after looking the present over. It almost looked alive at first, much to her dismay, but after further investigation it seemed she was just in need of a nap. "And I'm sure Karan will want to return the favor soon. We'll see you soon, okay?"
This time they made it out the door, but Karan didn't even notice. The squishy toy kept him entertained enough to get him out without a fight, something DS really would have to thank Waya for at a later daye.

Waya stood at the door as he watched DS and Karan leave, smiling a bit to himself. When he was sure the woman was gone he shut and locked the front door like he was told to before returning to his couch.
Though minutes later the boy would in fact fall asleep and unfortunately miss his favorite Animal Planet wolf special...

Journal Entry "Pretty Silk."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Waya had finally gotten used to being with his new family. At times Ballentine was sure he even forgot the fact he was adopted. He was smiling more, and was even a bit more open since he started to hang around with his brothers.
One time the boy had even let a "Goodnight Mom" slip before he corrected himself. Though Ballentine couldn't help but smile. It was one step closer to where she wanted to be in his heart.
But now... She was hoping Waya wouldn't feel a bit put out as she was brining home yet male. Well an item that will eventually draw in another male. Stepping up to her door, Ballentine looked down at the blue silk cloth in her hand and sighed. "Well.... Here we go."
Pushing open the front door she stepped inside, kicking off her shoes with a shout into the house. "I'm home!" Glancing into the living room she saw no one present, frowning a bit. But then the of pasta met her nose and she smiled. Jason had made dinner. Good thing to because she was definitely not in the mood to cook.
Walking down the hall then towards the kitchen Ballie smiled seeing the kids around the large table. A few of them had pasta faces and she couldn't help but laugh. "Hey! Miss me?" She asked, getting nods from the table as everyone had a mouth full of food.
"I made dinner mother." Jason said, his spoon lifted to point at the stove.
"I see that. I'll help myself. But first. Rule number one. No pasta fingers touch this." And from behind her back Ballentine showed the cloth. "In fact.. No one but me and Jay touch the silk.. Got that? No one." There were a few disappointed looks around the table, but everyone agreed.
Folding the silk nicely Ballentine placed it with her purse and keys on the counter before moving to the stove for dinner. She was sure as hell going to have to keep an eye on that silk as Tasanee would most likely want to use it for dress up.

Journal Entry "Fever Induced."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Rain pelted the window, the sound almost mind numbing. Drop after drop adding to the chaotic song of the storm. Pressed up against the window glass was Waya's forehead. The cool of the glass felt good against his slightly warm skin. He had caught a small cold from playing in the rain with his brothers and was now holding up in his room to recover. At the time, the rain felt refreshing against his skin. A nice cool down from the end of summer heat. Though if he knew the end result would be him with a fever and a runny nose he definitely wouldn't have gone out in the rain.
Taking in a deep breath, Waya raised his hand to rub furiously at his nose. Another sneeze attack was giving it's warning tingle. Breath hitching a few times, Waya would lose the battle with a muffled "choo!" The boy hated to sneeze, always trying to fight them off. Sighing a bit, Waya tugged the fur cloak he owned closer to his body for warmth.
Golden eyes focused once more into the back yard, drifting from the sky to the ground as the lightning turned night into day. It was a blinding experience that left the boy blinking a few times for his eyes to adjust to the dimmed light before the next flash. But even as the light had vanished, something still caught his eye. There out by the woods...
Waya squinted his eyes a bit, doing his best to focus on what it was he saw. "White.." He whispered, identifying the color quite easily. When the white object moved Waya gasped a bit to himself. A wolf! Even from the distance he could quite easily tell. His golden eyes followed as the animal rose to his feet and trotted down the small hill towards the home. Most importantly Waya had the unnerving feeling the wolf was headed right for his window! Thankfully he was on the second story of the hose.
But what was remarkable was what happened next. Just as fast as the wolf had appeared, in the flash of lightning it disappeared. Waya blinked in wonderment as he pressed his face against the window. Where did it go?! Waya made a small sound of disappointment, "I must be seeing things..." He muttered to himself, thinking it was all due to his little cold.

Journal Entry "A Few Thoughts."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Waya sniffled a bit as he reached out and under his pillow, searching for his journal that he always kept hidden there. So ok it wasn't the greatest hiding spot but at least it was always where he left it. Thankfully finding it in it's place he pulled it out with one hand while the other raised to wipe a tissue at his runny nose. His fever might have been gone but he was still .. Well... Sick as a dog.
"Ugh..." He groaned, tired thanks to the cold he had. Opening the journal to a fresh clean page his body shifted to lay upon his stomach. It's how he felt most comfortable writing. Over his back was his fur cloak, keeping him quite warm as he began to write...Quote: Hey Journal... Ballentine Mom said next week a special was going to happen. I'm not sure what that is. But now that I He paused to wipe at his nose once more. It was a never ending battle with the running snot of doom. He practically had gone through a box of tissues in one day and sighed as one more was added to his garbage can. He'd rather catch it in the tissue then let it drip onto his page. That'd be gross.Quote: think about it, I think remember she said something about "my kids need hair cuts." Maybe that means we all get our hair cut. Well all us kids... Briciru, Hugo, Ed, Tasa, Belinda and myself... Maybe that other guy too. Gareth I think hs his name was. I don't know much about him though. Waya frowned as he though about the other man. Who was he? Pressing his ears against his head, he thought a minute, propping his head up with his hand. He only saw Gareth now and then at meals. He always said something about training before he left. Suspicious if you asked him.
Chewing on his pen for a moment he tried to think more about that guy, but came up with a lot more questions than answers. Waya took in a deep breath and sighed, shaking his head. It didn't matter, he'd learn about Gareth in time.Quote: It was weird how he came. Bal Mom took that silk she bought with her and left without a word and came home with a dagger. It was pretty cool. Me and Jay seemed to like it most. She didn't say anything about it though, said to not touch it. So we didn't.
Then one day out of no where that Gareth guy came to the door. He was let in and talked to Balle Mom for a bit and she gave the dagger to him. I was so gealjealous. Ok only a bit.
He was very nice, smiled a lot and was kind to us. He comes for meals mostly. Sometimes him and Jason 'spar' as they call it in the back yard. I think it's funny watching Hugo and Ed try to copy them. They sometimes get out of hand.
And yes journal... I decided to call her Mom finally. Why? I guess she's just good like that. I'll write again soon. Till later.
Raising his hand, Waya let out a small shaking cough into it, closing the book with the other. He was really getting annoyed with his cold! Sitting up now he pushed the journal back under his pillow before his head connected with the fluffy goodness. "So soft..." He purred lightly as he tugged his cloak around him and closed his eyes. It was so nap time.
Lifting a hand to cover a small yawn, then give a small rub to a tired puffy eye he settled in for that little nap. He began to doze, almost off to dream land before he felt it. A weight of something atop of him. Frowning he could imagine who it was, and when he cracked his eye open he was surprised to find nothing there at all. Shaking his head a bit he ignored it and once more snuggled into the warmth around him.

Journal Entry "Lights Out."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"I'm home."
Waya smiled a bit as he heard his mother's voice, quickly hiding it a moment later. He didn't want anyone to notice! Licking his fingers clean he looked up to see his mom walk back in and nodded his head in greeting.
Ballentine couldn't help but giggle as she looked at the faces around the table. Belinda and Bricriu had sauce all around there mouths, Edward and Hugo having it on their hands. "Messy eaters I have! Little piggies." She teased, passing Ed and Hugo giving them a ruffle of their hair.
"Well kiddos, I got my experiment from the lab today. Please don't touch it, specially with you're messy fingers." She laughed lightly. "Plus stay away for another reason." She said getting my voice stern. "The bottle is dangerous," she said, wanting to get some fear into them so they'd stay away. "The bottle could suck your soul away and I'd never get to see you're cute little faces anymore!" Kissing the top of Belinda's head as she passed her, she rounded the table corner to stand at the head.
"I'll let you all see the vial, but don't you touch it or the bottle." Ballie warned once more, turning to reach into her side bag and produce said vial. As she held it out she couldn't help but smile as the table was filled with Ooh's. Yes, this was something to Ooh over.
"Jason.. Will you hit the lights please?" Ballentine asked with a casual smile cast at him. Once the lights went out, the vial itself began to give off a glow, twinkling much like a star! Faintly the colors inside shifted like a fiber optic display, fading from one to the next. Again the children were all in awe, as was Ballentine.
"Now.. I will leave it where we all can see. But no one but I am allowed to touch it." It was better to have the entire family involved. Though where was she going to find the soul she desired? Perhaps one of the others down at the lab could help and give her some advice. It was worth a shot asking, right?

Journal Entry "Ghost Walk."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Sometimes it's hard to get the family to do something together. Usually someone doesn't want to go! A major kink in the "family time" plan. But I never force them to go. They wouldn't enjoy it if I did. I always mention they'll miss out on a good time. For this round I suggested a ghost walk, and wouldn't you know it all of my kids seemed thrilled to go! But when the day came ... Now that was another story.
Jay had unfortunately caught the cold Waya was just getting over, the teen refusing to leave the comforts of the sofa. Edward had been frightened with ghost stories thanks to Bricriu, and if Edward didn't go then neither did Hugo. The two like pea's in a pod. Since this was the middle of October, the weather was starting to get colder. Thanks to that Tasanee decided it was too damn cold to walk around a town hearing ghost stories, bailing on us as well. Thankfully, since he was staying home anyway, Jason volunteered to baby sit. Even if the price was set for $10 an hour!
This left me with Belinda, Bricriu, Waya and Sayid. Not too bad! With just those four it would be simple to keep an eye on them. I made them all put on warm clothing, Sayid and Waya looking the most uncomfortable but Belinda seemed to love her hand and mittens!
The ride to our destination was an hour long, lucky for Jay! The town was absolutely amazing. It was like we walked back into time where it was OK to leave decorations outside and not get them stolen. Each store down the main street had a scare crow out front. Most likely for some sort of contest for the community.
After I parked I refused to let my kids out of the car. Why? Well I grabbed a few glow sticks from my glove compartment and cracked them into life. They were all the same color so no child could complain they didn't get the color they wanted. Smart thinking on my part there! Once each of them were all set, we moved as a group to the meeting place. I of course had to go sign us in and pay for the tour, and had the pleasuring of finding out it would be another 20 minutes before we left! Oh great, how to occupy my kids. I glanced across the street and smirked. "Bingo..."
I took them for hot chocolate! And of course a potty call. By the time we finished in there, our tour guide was calling everyone to circle around him. He began with a very long winded speech about it wasn't his fault if you were hurt on this adventure. Of course he didn't want to be liable for anything that goes wrong.
As a group we were ushered off, I couldn't help but think we all looked like a herd of cattle as we crossed across the street stopping traffic. But our first stop of the evening wasn't all that far. It was a real estate agency. We all were told to get a good look at the front of the beginning as our tour guide went on to explain.
Take a look at this building, what do you see? It's very symmetrical isn't it? That's because it dates back to when Greek architecture was a major influence to our nation. On the first floor you see the door in the center of the building, a matching window on either side of the door. If you look up, you see a large door like window - at one time that was a door, and once again a matching window like the first floor on either side.
Now you might wonder, why.. Why was there a door on the second story? There's no steps. That's because this building was in fact a casket factory! What a perfect start for a building right? Over the years it's been many things, most recently you see is the real estate agency. But because the purpose of the building changed doesn't mean the stories have stopped. Just recently, over this summer, a woman at the agency told me of an experience she had!
She was working late one evening, alone in the building. She said to herself, "I have to use the ladies room. I wonder if I should lock up." Deciding that she was in fact alone, and saw no reason to lock up her office she left it wide open. It wasn't until she was leaving the ladies room that she heard someone at her desk, groping and grabbing at the papers on her desk.
She ran down the hall, turning and skidding to a stop at her door only to stop stunned, shocked and surprised! No one was in the room! However a foul odor had filled it. Needless to say she high tailed it out of there and doesn't work alone anymore!"
There was a few laughs among the crowd, even a few questions asked about the building before moving on. Our second stop was an old church, the first of three we'd stop at tonight. We learned about it's secret passage ways between the neighboring houses and how one man found the bones of a child in there. He also pointed out the architecture being Greek, as were all the buildings we were going to see.
As we went on we learned about other churches, gallows, burial grounds and cemeteries. One cemetery being the most interesting as a lot of escaped slaves were buried there under John Do titles. This was to keep bounty hunters from knowing who was buried there. Of course they would get more money for bringing home a live slave, but they still got something if they could prove the slave dead. We also heard tales of Indians, the Devils Hole one such story about a whirl pool in the river and the massacre that happened there. We even stopped at a few mansions to learn about the mysteries and ghost stories behind them. All in all it was quite the adventure!
At our last stop, warm apple cider was given to us. Bricriu was in line ahead of me, snagging two cups for himself before the man could stop him. I grabbed one for myself and turned when I heard a sound of distress. Sayid was behind me and he had his arms full of chest nuts. Both me and the man serving us laughed at the site. I grabbed a cup for him as well and as I held it up to my boy's lips the man asked me to wait but a moment as he ran inside. He returned with a bag and helped my son empty his arms, Sayid giving a grateful smirk before taking his cup of cider and running off to join Bricriu.
Waya grabbed my attention with a clear of his throat and I smiled. "Waya... How cute." I teased. On his shoulders was Belinda who was in fact out cold. I plucked the girl from him, allowing him to shift out the knots in his shoulders and receive his cider. After it was a short trip back to the car!
When we all piled in I turned around to smile at my children. "I hope you all had fun. Bricriu I'm proud of you. You behaved and only scared that woman three times. Though she did deserve it." I said as I reached over to ruffle his hair.
Bricriu giggled. "Yeah, she screamedid so loud too! Like a scaredy cat."
I nodded then turned my attention to my other son in the back. "You too Sayid, you behaved good. even If you're as strange as ever collecting those chestnuts. I don't know when you picked those up, but you know what is awesome? You roast those over a fire and eat them! We'll do that tomorrow ok? Not all of them." I couldn't help but laugh at his face of protest.
Belinda was still fast asleep in her car seat, and I turned to smile at Waya. "Thank you for carrying Belinda. Yu all can sleep on the way home." I said as I turned around to start the car. It wouldn't be long before they all were asleep with exhaustion. When I got home I had to carry them all in one by one! But I was just glad to enjoy a night out with them.

Journal Entry "Pumpkin Carving."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"It's Hammerien!" Belinda screamed as she ran around the kitchen table, giggling cutely. She was in a lady bug outfit, her wings flapping a bit as she moved and her antenna bobbing.
Bricriu snorted as he looked at his sister, the boy dressed as .. Well.. Himself. "It's Hollowsween." He corrected his sister, only to be swatted lightly in the head by his older brother Jason.
"Don't tease her, and it's Halloween you brats." Jason said, putting the last of the pumpkins on the table. The family lived too far out to go trick or treating anywhere so Ballentine came up with an alternative. Allow the children to carve pumpkins while she hid little bags of treats through out the house and yard.
Six of the kids had hopped up to the table: Bricriu, Sayid, Belinda, Tasanee, Ed and Hugo. Waya and Jason where there as well but more for supervision.
Each child was given a pumpkin and a special knife to carve with. It was a knife that was supposed to be child safe, it sucked but did the job well enough! Jason explained to the kids how to carve the pumpkin with the following steps:
One, to carve a shape around the top, a circle the easiest. But for the kids it turned out to be more of a oval than anything! Two, gut it out! This was a blast for them as they pulled the pumpkin pulp from inside, saving the seeds in a bowl to be eaten later. Three, to draw a face on the front with a washable marker. The children seemed to enjoy this the most! And lastly four, to carve the face out!
When the children were done Jason ordered them to go wash their hands in the bathroom. He took that time to clean up any marker left from the pumpkins and move them to the steps to go upstairs. A candle was placed in each one and then lit.
Ballentine came in just as he finished and laughed a bit. "Oh my! They all look so wonderful! Well all the candy is hidden, I want a photo of all the kids in costume before they go out." She said as she reached for the camera she brought out earlier that day. "Where are they?"
Jason smiled a bit. "Cleaning up.. They should be coming out in a minute. "
And truth be told, all six came out from random bathrooms in the house to relocate there in the hall. With mother's orders they all sat upon the steps. Each one was in some sort of costume. Belinda in her lady buy, Tasanee a butter fly, Bricriu put on a pair of glasses with a nose and moustache, Sayid one of Ballentine's skirts and lastly Ed and Hugo dressed as pirates.
With the picture taken Ballentine smiled at her children. "Alright! Go find your candy! It's three bags per person and each bag can be seen in some way. So go on and have fun!"
The kids took off in a frenzy and Ballentine laughed. Well she did something to make their Halloween special even if they couldn't really go out and trick or treat.
