Azalia wipped her head around as Scarlet spoke. She hoped no one had heard her, especially the girl with the horse.

Merewyn's eyes widened as her hand flew over Scarlet's mouth, already covered by Scarlet's hand. She sent a warning glance to the other two: Stay very still.

Ismeine winced as she heard the voice she immediately recognized as Scarlet's. She had known they were there; only her sister could make that much noise in the forest. She also knew there was a man hiding a few feet away from them. He had been very careful, but no alien sound ever escaped Ismeine in her forest. Hoping the other woman had not noticed, she quickly agreed with her.

"Of course," she said carefully as started moving away.

Ame's eyes narrowed slightly as Scarlet spoke out. She glanced at her horse, whose ears had flicked back and forth. With a small, almost inperceptible movement of her hooves, Ame understood: There were people around. And one just happened to be a certain male superior of hers. Sighing, she said, "Thank you. And tell your friends that I don't enjoy being eavesdropped on." She sheathed her sword and stood looking at the girl, making sure she was gone before she let her guard down.

Azaila felt bad. They hadn't really been eavesdropping, they were just following Isemeine and trying not to be caught. But, she was used to people not seeing it her way. She had been blamed many a time for things like that. Still, this was expected. She was a lowly servant.

Laurence smiled, pleased with himself. He hadn't been discovered. As the Maisonian maid joined her friends and moved elsewhere, Laurence followed, creeping behind them.

Merewyn stood as Ismeine came toward them and cast an apologetic smile at the other woman.

"Honestly, is it possible for you to be any noisier?" Ismeine scolded. "What are you doing here?"

"We were worried about you," she replied, then dropped her voice to a whisper. "And obviously for good reason. This forest is filled with Jahrran knights! You should not be in here."

"I'm sorry, m'lady." Azalia said automatically in response to Ismeine's tone. That was one of the most common phrases she said to anyone. It was instinctive almost. "We were just concerned for your safety."

Sighing, Ame put her sword and bow down. Her horse trotted over, and Ame stroked her muzzle. She sat down onthe blanket she brought to sleep in, and began to think of what just happened. "Why was Laurence in those bushes...?" she mumbled quietly to herself. She continued th ponder the night's events, some times aloud to herself, sometimes not.

"Do not apologize to her," Merewyn snapped, then immediately regretted it. She did not wish to be rude to her friend, but she was quite irritated with her sister. "You must stop this, Ismeine. Father even said so. Fighting will begin--!"

"Any day now," Ismeine continued for her, rolling her eyes. "Firstly, Scarlet may apologize to whomever she wishes; do not direct your anger at her. Secondly, I was coming along splendidly in this forest until you interrupted me with your clumsy heroics. I hear every sound and see every sight in this forest; no harm shall befall me, I assure you. And thirdly, SHOW YOURSELF, STRANGER!"

Merewyn jumped as her sister whipped around, her anger at boiling point, and directed her last few words to some far-off bushes. Things grew very still for a moment as they waited and no sound came from the bushes. Had Ismeine gone mad?

As a matter of fact, she had not. Ismeine was staring directly at Laurence, who froze, hoping she would second-guess her senses. No such luck. The women waited for what seemed like ages. The one who had been called Ismeine stood fuming, waiting stubbornly for Laurence to move. As for the other three, Laurence focused on the maiden from his dream. He knew it to be her and not the twin; something about her gentle demeanor, now unsure and confused, told him as much. He watched her for a moment, then slowly stood from his crouched position in the bushes.

"Hello," he said gently, taking one small step towards them. He heard his maiden gasp, but saw no surprise in Ismeine's eyes.

Scarlet stood, watching. She wondered what was about to take place, and how many others there were in the vicinity. She watched as a man emerged from the bushes where she thought she had seen movement earlier.

((Sorry, my creativeness level isn't very high at the moment))

Ame turned, listening. She heard the girl yell, and then a voice that unmistakably Laurence. Sighing, she went for her sword, with the intention of following him. All of a sudden, she froze. If I go out there...and acknowledge him...it'll be completely contradicting what I told them...Lord, forgive that lie... she thought. Assuring herself that Laurence knew what he was doing, she settled in her bed, once again turning the night's events over in her head.

Azalia smiled to herself when the man emerged from the bushes. She knew someone had been hiding there. But, her face immediately fell as she thought about the possibility of there being more men out there. She didn't think this man would attack, but if he did, she was sure they could handle him. But if that other woman and more knights showed up, could they be any match? Lord, protect us, she silently prayed.

"Stay back," Ismeine directed, and the man stopped. Her heart pounded in her throat; she knew, no matter what the dame had told her, that there were more of him in the forest; she could sense it. If she were alone, she could easily evade him, but with the other three....

But he wasn't looking at her. "You would do well to take your eyes off of my sister," Ismeine demanded, standing protectively in front of Merewyn.

"My apologies," Laurence smiled, meeting Ismeine's eyes. There was no fear or hesitation in his expression, only joy and humor. He had found the maiden from his dream; now he only needed to understand God's purpose for bringing her to him both in dream and in reality.

"I am called Sir Laurence of Jahrr," he introduced himself, bowing low to each maiden present. "I understand you are maids from Maisone."

Merewyn had been rendered speechless. She stared straight back at Sir Laurence, her mouth agape in a certainly unladylike expression, until Ismeine stepped in front of her. She had dreamed of this man before, seen his exact face in childhood dreams.

"Sir Laurence of Jahrr." The man was from Jahrr. The man was a knight. A knight... from Jahrr. This was dangerous.

"Ismeine... we must go...," she whispered nervously, tugging on her sister's dress.

Azalia heard Merewyn whisper to Ismeine, and silently agreed. This situation was too dangerous for the princesses. If they had all truly been simple maids, it would be far less dire, but if the princesses were captured, the king might be driven to drastic or foolish action in his fear for the safety of his daughters. It could end up spelling disaster for the kingdom. The sooner they were back at the castle, the better.

Ismeine knew her sister was right. She needed to get the other three back to the castle and soon before something happened to them.

"Our positions bear no consequence to you," she replied, rudely ignoring his polite introduction. "Now begone, for we must away."

Laurence laughed to himself. The more he spoke with these women, the less he believed they were all maids. The twins carried a regal air, and Ismeine seemed to hold a proclivity for shooing people away.

"May I ask where you might be going?" he inquired, taking a couple steps towards them.

"You may not," Ismeine replied, matching his two steps forward with two steps backward.

"May I escort you, then? These woods are quite dangerous; if any sort of danger befell you, I am afraid I could never forgive myself."

"No."

"No?"

"No."

"Yes!"

Merewyn immediately regretted her outburst. Ismeine whipped around to face her, her face radiating anger.

"Ismeine.... This forest frightens me. I would feel better having a man guide us through," she whispered.

"We do not know that we can trust him!"

She thought for a moment, then answered, "I believe we can."
