...//Solo - Macbeth in the Sunshine Hours turned to days turned to weeks and slowly Syrie healed. His hair - parts turned shock-white during the sealing incantation - had returned to its usual colour and he was up and about at the Sanctuary; moving around the spacious Grand Manor slowly in his robe with a cup of hot tea in one hand and Bree the Dustling Dragon at his side.
Khia, as was his habit more and more lately, was no where to be found...
***
Khia's leg hung from a low-laying branch where he sprawled; the day was warm-ish and there was a quiet, lazy feeling all about. Deep-red eyes slowly moved back and forth, tracking the movement of the leaves in the tree he had perched in.
He didn't want to hang out around his dad. He didn't want to deal with Jiro or the ring on his finger or Akiya or Bree, Beck, Glans or any of the others. Not even Veloren. Ever since the Incident that had put his parent to bed up until that very week...he'd been purposefully, vehemently avoiding everyone.
The Dark Thing inside him was getting stronger, more insistent to get back out now that it had tasted blood.
Putting distance between himself and the others just happened to be the only thing that Khiarhu could think to do for his family and friends. He spent a great deal of time on the Hunt with the Lupix or at the bottom of Sterling Lake...doing things that were moderately safe (in that he could harm very few of the one's he cared about while doing these things).
Suddenly, he closed his eyes in something like amusement; a little line from one of his father's books came to him; floating up like flotsam in his mind; he gave voice to it on a whim.
"By the pricking of my thumbs... Something wicked this way comes."
The shape-shifter laughed, a low, gravely sound, then he continued:
"Open, locks, Whoever knocks!"
Oh, but who would dare to open the lock should he knock!?

...//PRP - A Day at the Park Blue wandered around the corner of the play structure, playing hide and seek with shadows, watching the way the shadows fell across the playground in the park, watching how quick flits and flickers of ghostly childish shapes chased across his peripheral vision. He wasn't seeing them too clearly in the light of day; but then again, he wasn't really looking. He glanced back to where his parent lay on a blanket on the grass, keeping Merlyn carefully corralled beside him; Blue had gotten bored with sitting and playing there and come over towards the play structure beside the trees. Now here, though, he did not know quite what to do with himself.
Lovely day for a picnic, or something. The fox walked to the pre-determined meeting place - he wanted to see the kitten, and his friend...as well as check up on how Blue was doing. For some strange reason the kitsune had a tie to the Tome that allowed him to sense when a Tale was born; Imagine his pleasant suprise when he learned that Prox had gotten one of the newer arrivals. "Move it, Fuzzbutt...and remember what I told you - don't scare either of them!" Syrie could see Prox lounging with his son, and he smiled, moving a little more quickly. "Oi~"
Khiarhu slunk along, slightly behind his parent, silky black fur rippling in the sunlight - it seemed to be deflecting the light, if that were possible. He wasn't listening to Syrie, rather he was swatting at Uisce, the wicked Nightmare companion that had been with his parent for longer than he could remember. The creature was shrieking "Stupidface, Stupidface!" at the shapeshifter because he'd earlier frightened a small child on accident. Oops.
"Hey~" Prox sat up, leaning on his elbows and grinning up at Syrie as his friend approached. "Hi, Khia," he added to the shifter child, nodding to him. "Nice day."
Merlyn shoved himself up onto his feet, wobbling determinedly and attempting a step. He fell squarely on his rump, and scowled at the new arrivals. This bipedalism business was more difficult than it shoul be. Blue peered around the corner of the slide, watching Sy and Khiarhu. He'd been told that there were friends going to meet them here, but he was a little dubious. New people made him nervous, and the dark-furred Tale padding behind the fox gave him a frisson of shivers. A flicker of barely-seen ghosts accompanied both. He didn't try to look closer.
Syrie's ears wiggled with amusement as he watched the kitten wobbling about. "Still hasn't quite got it, has he?" The russet kitsune flicked his tail and knelt on the edge of the blanket after greeting his friend; he looked about for Blue - though the child was pale as moonlight and Sy's eyes quite sharp, he almost missed the little ghost. "Hi Blue~" And then, to Prox, "How is he adjusting?" The bulky, dark Tale's tail thumped against the back of his legs, he didn't sit, he was watching Blue curiously - and trying to not scare Merlyn with his size and look. "Hullo there." He was polite, sort of, to his parent's friends. It wasn't that he wanted to be rude, it was that his attention was elsewhere. There were indeed ghosts about this Tale...and about Syrie too...though the ones surrounding Khia were decidedly darker...."The kit is hiding..."
"He'll figure it out. Determined little runt." Prox ruffled his son's hair and watched him try the standing thing again. "Blue is getting more comfortable at home," he answered, and frowned slightly, worriedly. "He's been having terrible dreams the past week or so, but I can't determine what's in them; they're out of his mind, not from Dream, so there's little I can do but comfort him." He kept this explanation quiet, for Sy's ears. Blue paused, then waved to his parent's friend shyly. He edged around the slide, trying to get a good look without being too visible himself.
"Ah...." He frowned a little bit, his tail thumping. Uisce, the nightmare, finally decided to float down and join the lesser mortals by perching on Prox's shoulder and hissing into his ear in an almost friendly manner. Almost. "Hmm...perhaps it has something to do with the Tome? There is much that Huni and I don't know about it..." The kitsune trailed off - what he and Huni didn't know about that book could fill a football stadium. And it seemed suspect to him that not only Khia was getting edgy, but other Tales as well - especially since he'd been getting very odd auratic eminations from the Tome and Study recently. "Please keep me informed...Khia has been restless and edgy as of late...It may be unrelated, but, one never knows with magical artifacts." But he didn't want to worry his friend, so he focused on the kitten instead, offering the small creature a small squishy octopus plushie in pale yellow from a bag he'd had slung off his shoulder. Slowly shifting into something more animal than his previous form, Khia flopped next to his parent and the Dream-shifter with a chuff. Blue would come, curiousity would see to that! He would wait and be patient, for a bit.
Teratus, perched in a tree nearby, whistled at Uisce idly and shut his eyes again. "I'll keep you posted," Prox nodded. "If it gets worse we'll come into the shop and ask, too." He gave Blue a reassuring smile. "It's okay, nobody bites," he raised his voice so the pale, shy Tale could hear. PLUSHIE. "Ok-tee," Merl declared, and grabbed. Blue edged around a little further, then came out of the shade under the play equipment and returned to the blanket, circling around so that when he sat down he was halfway behind Prox. He peered at Khia from this shelter, ears half laid back.
Uisce hadn't noticed the elder's presence, likely because he was so focused on torturing Khiarhu, but the moment he did he carelessly launched his sleek body off Prox's shoulder and flew himself up to perch next to Ter, clacking at him before settling to watch. No apathy today, no food. Ah well. "Thank you...ah, if you ever need me, I'm usually hiding on the second floor...can't miss it, it's the last room on the left, and warded besides." No, they didn't bite..not really. Khia might, though not without provocation. "Yes, yes, Octi." Syrie laughed at Merlyn's antics - he loved the kitten, so cute! "You are so cute...darn it, if I didn't like your dad so much I'd steal you for my own~" Khia lifted his lupine head and chuffed at the small, pale kit before shifting back to his bipedal form. "You smell of old rooms and nothing." It made sense - Blue smelled like...ghosts. Ghosts scented of nothing...and old dusty rooms that hadn't been lived in.
"Second floor. Okay. I haven't looked around, yet," Prox admitted. "There's been the thing with the dissolution in the Halls, and then Blue is so shy - I keep meaning to go, and then something comes up. But Blue needs to meet other Tales." He looked sheepish. Merlyn tugged at the plushie, smiling an ear to ear toddler grin, full of rather more teeth than the average, but still gleeful. "Dar-n." "You smell like shadows," Blue observed, almost inaudibly. He did not deny that he smelled of nothing. He knew that. Dad smelled like cat and pine and cinnamon and wood, Merl smelled like kitten, Kher smelled like seaweed and fur, and he did not smell like anything; and Khia smelled like shadowy corners with rustly ancient things in them.
"Ah, don't feel bad..most don't go up that far..it's administrative up there...mostly for myself...and it's still under construction, even this far along..." Syrie's ears flicked back and forth and he nodded - it seemed something was always keeping HIM from going out, doing much of anything. "Yes...well..I'm afraid that work kept me from bringing Khia out to meet many Tales...and for that I feel awful. He's been alone alot." Uh oh...he hoped Merl wouldn't keep that word, it'd be bad if the Kitsune taught the child his first swear words - best way to assure he didn't remember it later was probably to leave it alone. "You like the Octi?" The shapeshifter snorted and tossed his horned head a little. "Dad, I'm right here, I can HEAR you." He watched Blue quietly for a moment and then grinned; a move that assured he looked like the devil himself - muzzle skinned back in a grimace-growl. "And worse, sometimes." Khia wasn't going to deny it either. "I won't bite you, little ghost." The appellation came easily, with no thought on his part.
"I went out a lot when Anen and Kher were small, but I've been such a hermit lately," Prox sighed. "Don't hurt the plushie," he admonished Merlyn. "NO!" Merlyn yelled gleefully, and waved the plushie in the air, grinning fit to burst. "He does," Prox assured Sy dryly. "He just likes the word no."
Blue giggled a little at the kitten, then shrank back slightly at the grimace Khia made. "Okay," he whispered, and watched the older Tale warily, seeing the flick and flit of the ghosts that attended him, trying to make them out. He tried a smile in return; his own muzzle was a bit shorter, his lips more flexible, and while his smile was doggish, it was recognizable as one, if a nervous smile.
The kitsune's lips quirked into a grin; empathy was a wonderful thing. "So I gathered." He mused over something for a bit, and then sighed. "I've never gotten out much...too busy...I suppose I shouldn't have gotten kids...but they sort of find me, not the other way around." Khiarhu stopped smiling but his fur rippled and there was a strange sort of undertone to the black - perhaps a ...happy color? It's something that's felt more than seen; at an instinctual level. "Dad said your name was Blue...?" He was trying to be nice, to behave, the way his parent had admonished him to.
"Kitten here was the only one I really expected, but I wouldn't give any of them up," Prox mused, and reached over to pat Sy's shoulder. "It just seems to happen here." A flicker of melancholy passed over his face, but was gone quickly. Merlyn looked up at his father, frowned, and flailed the plushie at him. "No," he declared. "Uh huh. You're ... Khiarhu," Blue answered. "Dad said." He ducked his head to peer at Khia from under the fringe of his hair, edging a little closer in response to the sense of friendliness. Not scented, not seen, not really anything; but he felt the gesture, in a way he couldn't have explained had he noticed it.
"Mm. it does." He idly touched his breastbone while watching the little grey kitten, and then smiled again, scooping the child up to toss him a little. "Yes~" Khia's ears flicked a little, they couldn't move much because of the horns coiled against his skull, but they moved some. "Mmhmm..call me Khia. Everyone else does." He chuckled, a deep rumbling sound that came from low in his chest. "Little ghost suits you better than Blue..."
Merlyn shrieked delightedly and puffed up all his fur until he looked absolutely ridiculous, tail flailing in circles as he flew through the air. Prox laughed and sat back, tipping his face up to the sunlight to chase away the last of the melancholy moment. "S'okay," Blue answered, dropping his eyes to his feet. "I'm not, not much here." He hunched up slightly and poked at his toes. "You're big," he observed.

...//Solo - Curious Dreamscapes Khiarhu always slept as though he were a dead animal, though tonight not even his fur rippled; usually there was some movement or color shifting, but it appeared as though the shapeshifter were enjoying the deepest, most peaceful sleep he'd ever known.
In this dreamscape the shifter was not prowling through lush jungles, nor stalking through sulpherous wastes as he usually did while dreaming; Dreaming afforded him glimpses into what he might have been at one point...though sometimes he wasn't fully convinced those were dreams. Often, he'd awoken from a "hunt" to find the taste of blood thick on his tongue.
But tonight he was inside a building; In a dusty, moldering tower in a large stone effigy - was it a castle? Whomever he was n his dream couldn't be made tocare enough to look around too much, but from what he could tell the place was cluttered, dusty and unkept though a nice fire roared in a stone hearth.
He paced, grumbling to himself as he fussed with an ancient tome, shifting little vials of this and that from a cabinet to the table as he waited.
"Where is that dratted girl!?" He'd just called for the clumsy oaf! Had she tripped again? Bah...what an apprentice he had in her...and yet, she was good, he couldn't deny her skill - but he COULD be crotchety and grumble about her "habits".
The man - Khiarhu - stepped away from his worktable and strode towards the door, halting and backtracking as he caught a glimpse of himself reflected in a pane of glass. What eyes! So blue, so bright in an otherwise faded visage! Was this him? It was.
He moved again, muttering to himself as he opened the door to bellow up at his apprentice. "The time is fast approaching, get down here at once!!". /This must work, I must get out of here.../ The man shook his head, effectively ending his train of thought, and slammed the door behind him-
-And that sound woke Khiarhu from his sound sleep; nostrils flared and his coat rippled and gleamed with a strange hue. What manner of strangeness was that dream!?

It's like Dad's study ... but big ... and more books! Prox: *watches, quite still, half a smile* Thank you. Khia: You could sit in here for weeks and never touch every book.... *grins, that strange-grimacing way, and chuckles again* Why not pick a few? Sy: *ears flick as he looks up at his friend; but his concentration is on the tiny ball of fluff in his arms* You'll be well soon, kitling...just a little longer...this isn't so bad, now is it? *murmurs something in a wholly different language after that, the glow peaking after a few minutes before fading away slowly* Blue:*moves slowly around the room, looking for books with words he can read, or tryto puzzle out* Merlyn: *little squeaky protest of this-is-weird, squirm .... yawwwwwwwn* Prox: * ... phew* Khia: The stuff I read when I was younger is over....*moves around one of the stacks and to a slightly less dusty shelf* here. There we go. *the books are not "kids" books, but simpler things* Sy: *tail twitches, snugs the little kitten and then offers the kit back to his parent* ...He may still sneeze a bit, but it won't last long.... Blue:*opens book, lips move as he reads, but he can get it with a bit of concentration* ... *goes and hugs Khia* Khia: *hugs him back, ruffling his hair fondly* Will that do, Little Ghost? Prox: *tucks kitten into the crook of his elbow, careful and secure* We both appreciate it, even if he hasn't got the hang of thank you yet. *strokes kitten's ears - kitten promptly falls asleep* Blue:Yes, thank-you-very-much, oh! *pause* Can I read them all? Sy: *holds up a hand, waving it a little* Don't thank me until you get my bill. *sneezes a little, ears sweeping back* -_- I will expect to see at least you two out to visit sometime soon. Khia: Of course you can! *chuckles, a deep in the chest rumble* You can come here as often as your Dad'll allow. Take as many as you like. Blue biggrin ad says we will go to the big library when I am bigger. *proud* I will read the books at home, and I will read the books here, and get ready! Khia: *plops down and watches Blue, tail curling happily* Should learn to swim sometime too, if you don't know already... Prox: As long as we're not intruding. *tailtip back and forth, a little anxious* Blue:Kher is teaching me! ^.^ In the pond. Sy: *snorts a bit* Of course you're not! .... *wonders at kitty's anxiousness, frowns a bit* Is something the matter? Khia: We've got a lake here, you should bring...Kher? out to swim sometime. Prox: *shakes head and attempts a smile* Tired, is all. We'll sleep better tonight. Blue:Okay. Kher has fins. He can catch fish. Sy: ...Ah...that I can see. Well, you're always welcome to stay...or, you can leave Blue with Khia - to make it easier on yourself. I don't mind. Khia: *shifts so he's got fish fins and seems kind of...aquatic* like these? *looks like a betta?* Blue: surprised :O COOL. ... Um. Spikier. Prox: Mmm ... *one ear down* You don't mind us taking up the couch? I should call Kher, let him know, if - Khia: *shifts again, spiking up the fins* Better? Sy: Prox...this place has at least three empty rooms you could stay in. I truely do not mind, and it would be easier on Merlyn and yourself, I know... Blue:On the ankles and the tail and the back - *directs, fascinated* Prox: *not that tough to persuade, really* Thank you ... let me give Kher a call so he doesn't get worried. Khia: *shifts as per the fuzzy's directions; has done this before, so doesn't screw up too much with instructions* Sy: Excellent, I'll bring you a phone... *gets up, wobbles a little, then grumbles and straightens* =_= *fetches a cordless phone and brings it back to his friend* Call, and I"ll make certain you've fresh sheets and things.... Blue:*giggles delightedly* You're good at that! Prox: *frown* You need rest, too, particularly after expending yourself. I can deal with sheets and such. Khia: *arches his back, grinning again* Wasn't always...but...now I am. *stretches, his body slowly taking its usual shape* Sy: Oh fst, would you let me do it myself if the situation was reversed? *smiles and pats Prox's shoulder* Dont worry, I've got help. Blue:That is so neat. *shiny eyes* Prox: ... Hmph. Let me at least give you a hand, I don't want you to overextend. Khia: *flicks his ears a bit* Mm...it's pretty handy. *picks up a book or two* So kiddo, how many you wanna take with you this time? :3 Sy: Alright, I don't have the energy to argue too much... I'll put you in the room next to my own, so if you need anything, you dont have to wander... Blue:*purses lips and thinks about this * ... Five. Prox: *small quirk of a smile through the tired* When you don't have the energy to argue me into submission, I know you're really tired. *remembers the phone in his hand - * I won't be a minute. * quick phonecall* Khia: Best gather them up kiddo...I hear our parents talking about sleep. *likes this serious little floof* Sy: I know. Pitiful isn't it? *grins, stretches while he waits for the other to be done so he can get him settled to sleep* Blue:*picks out books as quickly as he can manage* I'm gonna reeeeeead~ Prox: *done, hands phone back* Okay, there. Where'd the other fuzzballs run off to? Khia: *watches him pick, then takes the books to carry for the little one* C'mon, you can stay in my room if you want. I don't think your Dad's gonna fuss much - he's got the other kit to fuss with. *leads the way out back to the adults, making certain to shut the Library when they leave* Sy: *sets it down, not too worried about where it might end up, the kids can't really hurt it* ....Not certain...this place is huge, though we only use the main wing.... *shakes his head* Khia will bring Blue back to us...for the moment, let's get you settled.... Blue:*carries one book, not going to let Khia do ALL the work* Cooool. *absolutely thrilled, books AND staying over in Khia's room!* Prox: *nods and follows, helping with sheets; he is practiced at the baby-fu art of being fairly efficient though one arm istaken up by sleeping baby* He's a good kid. Khia: *so amused; catches the scent and sound of Prox and Parent long before they reach the open door to the room Prox will be staying in* Hey, Blue's staying in my room, okay? Sy: Yes...they both are.... *with the kitty's help, makes quick work of putting fresh sheets on the bed and getting everything ready; also brings in a small plush teddy* I am, literally, next door. Please don't hesitate to knock if you need anyting... Blue biggrin ad, Khia showed me books! *beam* Prox: *settles kitten in the bed, in such a way that he can slide in next to the toddler and keep him secure and comforted* Thank you. I - thank you. *smile* *looks over to doorway* Okay, kiddo. Dn't stay up too late, youhear? *grateful smile at Khia, wonderful that the older Tale is so kind to Blue* Khia: *didn't think anyone would have a problem* Alright, Cmon kiddo, let's book it. *sleeps past the library and up some stairs, having taken large apartments on the second floor for himself* Mmm....here we go... *sets the books down on a table and slips over to pull the covers down on a large bed - across from the bed is a strange mirror...O_o but it's harmless* Let's sleep, I'm bushed...and it'll be better to wake up and read tomorrow... Sy: Goodnight boys...good night Prox.... sleep well, okay? *smiles and then slips out to his own room to crawl into bed and sleep* Blue:*puts book down carefully and slides into bed, ears up happily, tail a bit waggy* Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite. *solemn* Prox: Goodnight. *curlsup around kitten, quickly asleep* Khia: *goes fluid out of his clothes and then slips into some pj pants before hitting the lights and crawling into bed with the little fuzzy - but it's not fully dark, theres a little nightlight that has always been there, glowing softly in the dark* Mmm..Night kiddo. And dont worry about the bedbugs...they wouldn't dare bite here. *settles to sleep, partially curled around the child*

...//Solo - A Beautiful Gift (Drop-off) Finally! It was about damn time he was allowed out again. Sighing heavily and running an irritated hand through his hair, he stepped through the portal that separated him from Khia's world. It was still such a lovely place... but! Now was not the time to admire! Good thing Khia wasn't around. His eyes drifted down towards the hastily wrapped package in his hands and his eyes flickered with a moment or two of doubt before he continued to the house itself. Being outside now felt strange, since he had been forced to remain cooped up inside the fortress known as his home sweet home. Damn those idiots who were hunting him! Why couldn't he just be allowed to find them himself?!
The thought of all the past arguments he had with his Shouhin filtered through his head as he paused at the doorway. Every part of him told him to knock and see if Khia was home. But he had been warned not to take too long anywhere. The threat was still as real as ever and he couldn't let his guard down. Ever since it happened, his parents were more over protective than ever and it rubbed him the wrong way. Gah.. his thoughts had definitely started to wander way too much lately! A look of resolve formed on his face as he set the package down, rapped quickly on the door and hurried off again. It had been hard to gather up his nerve to do it. Not because he was afraid to give it to him, but he was giving him something that had always been with him.
To him, it was his first weapon, favorite hairpiece and what made him.. well.. him. So this was the first time he was gonna give up something that was so closely tied to him. But for Khia.. he was special enough and he wanted him to have them. Since he knew how he had admired them before.
The note attached to them read simply: Hope you enjoy these as much as I did. -J

...//Solo - Reflections in Gold In his bed, Khia stretched out; furry stomach pressing down against the slightly scratchy material of his comforter as he sprawled there. His shoulders hung off the long edge so that he could slowly twirl the objects in his fingers and watch the waning light of the sun glinting off the golden chopsticks.
A gift.
From Jiro.
The shape-shifter had found the way Jiro used the hair pins as weapons endlessly amusing; they were beautiful, certainly...but they were also blunted now. Less weapon-like than they had been when the short, red-haired Tale had first acquired them. Khia knew that either he or Veloren could fix that, could return the hair pins to their former sharpness...but he wasn't certain he wanted to do that.
Not with how he'd been feeling.
The temptation to jam the blunted hair pins into someone's eyes or ears was great...if they were sharper, Inari only knew what Khia would do!
Khia's fur rippled across his body - over his shoulders and down his back and even along his legs under the jeans he wore. His tail lashed in a strange sort of contentedly pleased-but-agitated sort of way.
Beautiful gift. Deadly gift. Tempting, tempting gift.
He reached up and jammed the pins into his head next to the big horn on the left side; the pain was satisfying but far too short as the malleable flesh changed and shifted around the objects, welcoming them into his body as though they had always belonged there -- half inside.
They were safe there. He wouldn't be as tempted to use them....there.

...//PRP - Parental Rights = Parental Fights Another Tag-in RP between self and Prox :3
Nashi: - I like your children. *sortashy*
Sy:*smiles up at him* They seem to like you too... *mostly, Khia probably is like "who the hell are you and why are you in Dad's bed? >O"*
Nashi: I'm glad. *feels a little awkward around the kids, but tries not to show it* Sy:u_u;; I'm sorry about Khia...he spends a little too much time with Veloren. *pets at his clothes; leaaans* It'll get better with time... *murmurs; empathic, yis, so...knows?*
Nashi: *just has no idea what to do with children, was never expected to take care of them or interact or anything growing up* I don't - hold it against him. I'm the outsider.
Sy:*chuffs a bit; really has no idea what to do with kids...treats his adopted brats on a case by case basis - the empathy helps, really* He's still being standoffish and you've been staying with us for how long now? I raised him better than that...
Nashi: *shakes his head a little* It's okay. I can't make him like me, if he doesn't. *actually, that hurts a little, but tinily and he keeps it buried deep*
Sy:*leans up on tippy-toe and kisses his cheek* Nashi...I know he'll come around... *knows that Khia's partially grumpy due to fact that Nashi = threat to his having Dad always there for him; tho part of it has to do with things going on with Tome (sy doesn't know that tho XD)*
Nashi: ... I hope so. *does, truly and honestly, likes Khia even if Khia is grump and standoffish, kind of feels a sympathy*
Sy:...I know he will. He's just got to get used to there being someone with me. That's all. *chuffs*
Nashi: *arm around waist tightens a little, quiet swell of happy about that whole with-me thing*
Sy:*turns so he can put his arms around the taller fox, nestling against him happily* Mmm...
Khia:*picks this moment to show up; sauntering in like a damned king panther or something* Daaaad? Oh there you ar- *snaps mouth shut at seeing his parent with Nashi; for all his "dad, you need to get laid" talk, he's been acting sulkish and grumpy at the thought of his parent's attention spent elsewhere*...you're still here?
Nashi: *one ear goes back slightly at attitude, but he otherwise ignores it* I like spending time here, yes. *not taking arm away, thanks*
Sy:*ears lay back* Khia! *doesn't move either* Honestly, what's gotten into you?
Khia:*lazily scratches at his stomach, eyeing the black fox with bright red eyes and a rather contemptuous body language* ...Nothing. *tail lash* I just don't like seeing some guy randomly at home all the time.
Nashi: *patient, trying not to be angry, body language and tone getting more formal accordingly* I do not intend to intrude.
Sy:*does start to pull away a little, wants to slap his son for being so rude to Nashi when the fox is rather important to him* Khiarhu Zaire...if you don't stop that and apologize...
Khia:*lays his own ears back and bares his wicked-white teeth - that's not a display of aggression so much as a grimace - his muzzle isn't suited for expression, after all* I don't like it. I don't like him in your bed! *crosses his arms; acting every part of the rebellious teenager with the not-necessarily-hated-but-not-wanted-possible "new" parent-type*
Nashi: *ears back, draws self up* No, do not force an apology, please. It means nothing if it is forced, my love. *oh, yes, that was deliberate; he means it, also isn't backing down*
Sy:*ruffles a bit and has to bite a little squeak of surprise at that; files it away for later discussion, when Khia isn't being a brat to their faces - for now, he focuses on the sulky teen, grey eyes bright; he is very close to breaking away and slapping Khia for being so rude to Nashi and to him*
Khia:*obviously bristles at that, though for some reason the lashing of his tail eases up; conflicted emotions maybe?* He's right, it wouldn't mean a damned thing. I don't like him in your bed, in this house..pretending like he's part of the family. *faces Nashi squarely* You're not a part of this family just because dad lets you ******** him, you know.
Nashi: *dryly, coolly* I wouldn't dream of assuming a false connection. *inclines head slightly, tight rein on hurt/anger*
Sy:*is a ball of indignant fox, an angry parent, and a REALLY PISSED OFF lover to boot; makes a Sound and before even the quick-quick Khia can see to dodge, he backhands the boy as hard as he can - this is rather difficult because Khia is TALL, and he is Short* I have never in my life been so angry - Khia, he might not be part of this family right now, but I want him to be. And you...you, my boy, you are going to apologize and mean it unless you want to spend the next two years locked in your room, grounded away from your lover!
Khia: Hmph... *was about to say something when Syrie smacked him; head snaps to one side after he's slapped - there is shock, so much shock; Syrie has never hit him like that. spanked, yes. hit, no* ...!? *part of him is positively wilting at having hurt the fox enough that he's resorted to violence...another baser part of him is positively livid; and his fur ripples as if alive, shape changing in slight ways while his mind is in turmoil* ... *obviously struggling with what he just heard/experienced*
Nashi: *has enough sense not to say anything stupid to either Syrie or Khia till potentially volatile situation has settled slightly; stands with arms crossed and ears down, tails switching slowly* *that rippling shifting shuddering fur is making unpleasant little red flags go up somewhere in his mind, but this is Not The Time, in the least; so he stores that thought back somewhere away from surface for examination later*
Sy:I think I love that man standing there, so you'd better get used to the idea that he's going to be in this home, in my bed - part of our family! *right up in Khia's face; obviously reading more from the oddly shifting body - and the way there seem to be colors going on under the top coat too...also doesn't seem to be impressed/afraid of the fact that his son is Strange, bigger than him, and could probably rip him to pieces*So you'd better show him some respect, stop acting like a brat, and apologize! Do you understand me? *when he gets no answer from the dark teen, he grabs one of the fluffy ears and pulls. Hard* Do you!?
Khia:*hisses a little, but behaves as any child would when faced with Angry Parent pushed Too Far; backs down* Ow, ow...Dad, stoppit... *brought down to his knees by the ear pulling, eyes Nashi while he's there - only without the...hardness from before; what Syrie said about his lover hit home hard, just like the slap...at least, for that moment* OWwww...Yes! I understand, just..leggo my ear! *rubs at said ear when released and though his posture is Not Happy in the lease, he goes to do what he was told; head bowed*
Nashi: *is right there and cannot possibly miss it, but is at least not watching for the moment, because that would be more humiliating, really* *when Khia approaches, he holds out a hand to forestall words, and bows low* I accept your apology, as given. *meets teen's eyes* I would like to be on polite footing with you, at the least. *hesitates* Khiarhu, it is not, has never been, and will never be my intent to take your father away.
Sy:*hands on hips, tail all poofed out angry like still; watching two of his important people and praying like hell to every god he's ever heard of to let them just get along* ... *also breathing a leetle hard, with heart doing funny flutters that he ignores; should know better than to stress out like that, but should be fine*
Khia:*at least is a little appreciative that the other fox wasn't looking at that?* ... *muzzle opens and closes a little bit after the man speaks, then he snaps it shut and takes a moment to settle his body back the way it should be - no rippling undercoat colors, no odd semi-shifts* ...I can do that...for now. *calmer and with some sense knocked into him, he is more like his usual oddly adult self* ...Look...I just...It's... *stops again, rubs absently at his bracer with it's red gem* Alright. I'll give you a chance...for Dad's sake...but if you hurt him... *eyes glitter brightly at that*
Nashi: *long deep breath, funny little half-smile* If I hurt your father, you have my permission and encouragement to return the favor, in full and multiplied. *squares shoulders, means that too, even if it's abysmally stupid of him*
Khia:*skins his muzzle back, showing teeth in a disturbing manner - tail is swishing though, and body language is mostly relaxed, so it must be a sort of smile?* Deal. *looks to his parent, ears flat against his skull; looks like a lost puppy right then*...Dad...?
Sy: *lets out a funny little sigh; whatever else might come, the current battle is apparently over -thank heavens; goes and places one hand on Nashi's arm, giving it a squeeze; moves again, to pull his dark child into a tight hug* Khia..you idiot...Don't ever do that again, I'll beat you. *gets a bear hug from the darkskinned teen, then gets set down next to Nashi*
Khia:...I think I'm gonna go... *recalls why he came in first place* Damn, I forgot...I'm gonna stay over with Jiro for a few, just so you know? *wants to go be with HIS person, and also...wants to leave before his resolve to be nice is tested too much; salutes/waves to the pair when he gets an "okay" nod from Sy*
Nashi: Thank you. *senses down from combat alert, bows courteously to Khia before the dark child goes* ... *once Khia is gone, starts actually shaking minutely, confrontation is still ******** terrifying*
Sy:*does as well - is really not built for confrontations like that!* Oh my.... *reaches for Nashi, ears flat against his head* I'm...so...sorry...you had to see that....I don't know...what's gotten into him....
Nashi: *gathers Sy against him, concentrates on breathing steadily* I don't hold it against him. Won't. It must be strange. *very shaky, very relieved*
Sy:I...suppose so...but...still... *feels shaking of fox and winds his arms around - they can shake together? :3*
Nashi: Are you well? *frowny-face, that breathing pattern isn't normal for Sy* Sy:*nods a little and tries to bring the fluttery breathing back to normal; or something that wont be so worrisome* I got a little too worked up...I'll be fine... *looks up at him*...are you okay?
Nashi: *nods* *faint smile* Shock therapy.
Sy:*expression worried* I really don't know what's gotten into him...he's not usually like that... *can think of one other time Khia got mad in a similar manner, but pushes it from his mind* Um...do y-you want something to drink? *needs one himself!*
Nashi: *really doesn't know anything about kids, kind of chalks it up to teenage rebellion, since he doesn't know about that* I, yes. I could use a drink. *faintly abashed*
Sy:*nestles against Nashi a moment more, then pulls away reluctantly* I'll fix us both something...Inari knows I need it... *goes to hunt down glasses and liquor from wet bar in den-type area*
Nashi: *little automatic gesture of respect to goddess, pads along behind, trying to relax from vibratey tension*
Sy:*fixes two stiff drinks with shaking hands and offers one to the black fox before taking a mouthful of the burning liquid and swallowing*
Nashi: *drinks, then slides arm around Sy's shoulders again, needing contact just now* ... *quietly* I did mean it. I love you.
Sy:*leans against the other fox again, both hands holding his glass to his lips to steady it; pauses a bit, looks up, cheeks a little pinked*...I meant it too.
Nashi: I should've said so before. *leeean* I apologize.
Sy:*blinks a bit, shakes his head* Don't apologize... *flicks his ears* I didn't say anything either...
Nashi: *even through the shaky, a quiet glow of happiness* Thank you ..
Sy:*head tilt; is very warm inside and it has little to do with liquor, and a lot to do with Nashi* For what...?
Nashi: Trusting me. *used to being teh bad guy, for one reason or another, trust and being defended is sort of new and very happy*
Sy:...of course I trust you. *doesn't understand, but...doesn't mind, since it seems to mean a lot to Nashi; holds drink in one hand and reaches up to touch his cheek* You're important to me...
Nashi: *long deep sigh* And you to me. *really beginning to think that maybe he has found somewhere to be*
Sy:*finishes his drink, then sets it aside; much preferring to have his arms around the taller fox than a drink* You don't know how happy I am to hear you say that....
Nashi: *finishes his drink, puts glass aside to embrace Sy* *awkward* I am not good with words.
Sy:I know...it's okay. *tail swishes in a pleased manner* Your actions speak loud enough...

...//PRP - Sort-of Family Dinner NOTES: This has been sized down so as to not stretch the page too far down. It was stolen from Jada's journal and is now an "abandoned" rp as Jada no longer is on Gaia. :/ As will all other entries like this -- please assume that much hilarity and seriousness and whatever else happens at family dinners (think Thanksgiving here) happened. The sun was going down slowly, but it was still bright at the Lupix Sanctuary; one short, somewhat perky russet kitsune was busily putting the finishing touches on the dinner he'd prepared for his guest; his long term friend Jadaria and one of her kids..or two. @_@ He wasn't certain; the invitation had been open ended. Khia was there, lazing on a couch and scratching his furry tummy lazily; somewhere, more of his "pets" (kids?) were lurking...most had sitters. Elsewhere.
---
The sun was going down - Jadaria had to wonder if they were late. She couldn't help it; just a touch of paranoia ingrained into the overzealous mother of... well. However many children she had at this point. She would hate to be late, really; it was a terrible, terrible fate as far as she was concerned. Being late was unacceptable! Either way, however, she had shown up at the appropriate time, only one child in tow.
Maravilha was clinging tightly to his mother's hand, staring out at the sanctuary and huddling as close as he could without being shooed away. His metal fingers clenched tightly at his shirt, his 'real' hand clutching his mother's hand. He wasn't sure about this whole thing - they were family, but who WERE they? He didn't know these people - he didn't know who they were going to see! Was this really such a good idea?
"Mommy..." he whimpered softly, hiding behind her legs as she moved to ring the doorbell.
"Hush, Mara, baby. It'll be okay. It's just your Uncle Sy, okay? I promise nothing bad's going to happen... maybe you'll make friends with some of your, uh... Cousins." She sighed, reaching down to pat the tall boy comfortingly as they waited.
---
Khia heard and scented the pair long before his Dad even noticed, so he got up to open the door for them before they even reached the door; but first he called over his shoulder "Dad, that woman's here with..." and he sniffed a bit, a Tale? Oh damn. "A Tale?" The black beast's tail twitched and he opened the door, peering out with bright red eyes. "Hi Aunty, right on time." From the kitchen, swearing could be heard, and high pitched animal giggles - also, a flash of brightly colored fur zooming out of the kitchen with random items flying out after it. "Beck godrot you, you little b*****d!" Just another night at the Grand Manor. Really.
---
"Hey, Khia." Jadaria smiled up at the redeyed creature, reaching down and trying to force Maravilha from behind her legs where he'd taken to hiding. At length, she finally reached down and just picked him up, though he was far too tall for that as far as she was concerned. Still, she managed, and supported him with one arm (after all, after so many kids, you get some arm strength), holding his hand with her free one.
"Sounds like your dad's having fun in there," she commented with a grin, shaking her head. "I'm glad the well behaved one stayed with me. Ah well. We're on time then? That's good. And - oh! Khia, I forgot - this is Mara. Maravilha. Say hi, Mara."
"..." The young Tale stared up at the shifter with wide, frightened eyes.
"Er... he's a little shy. Heh." There was a bit of a forced, 'I hope he gets over it soon' smile on her face as she shifted him on her arm, moving to step inside. "So what's on the menu for tonight?"
---
Khia chuckled and eyed the shy little Tale curiously. "Yeah...well..you know how the Dust's can be..." Another barrage of swearing and Bree went skittering out of the kitchen, Ki-yiing wildly, joyously even, at having done the mischief intended. The shifter's ears flicked, causing the long tassles of silky fur to dance a bit; instead of the long, long hair he's sporting a short, choppy hairdo that's likely best for the heat. "Mmm...Hi Mara, I'm Khia. And if you think I'm scary now, you should see me when I smile. >3" *snorts and ushers the shorter woman in with her child, closing the door behind them. "Er...that, you'll wanna ask Dad. I think it's chicken...but god only knows by now...." Speak of the devil, and he appears. Syrie stepped out of the kitchen, cheeks flushed with irritation. "Godrotting little beasts, I'll neuter every last one of you!" His ears lay flat against his head for a moment before he turned to greet Jada and Mara. "Hi guys...sorry about the mess...and noise...and throwing of kitchen objects....the kids are "playing'".
---
Jadaria just chuckled, shaking her head and hefting the tall toddler at her side, offering a crooked grin to her friend. "I understand. You've seen how many children I have. Do you think you have that many boys without a few messes?" Still, she couldn't help a slight giggle; after all, she very rarely had to throw kitchen utensils to get her children to quiet themselves - ah, but the difference in mothers and fathers!
Mara, on the other hand, just huddled against his guardian, clinging tightly to her shirt until she pushed at him a bit, then leaned down to set him on the ground. It took a moment or two of fighting, but finally she forced him loose, leaving him to wrap his arms around himself and cringe as close as he could to her leg.
"Mara, baby, you can't hide behind my leg forever," she sighed sadly, then shook her head and looked up at the shifter and kitsune. "Don't neuter them, Sy. You know Zon would have a fit. Hm hm. So - what's for dinner? Or... would it be safer if we packed up and went out to eat?" She grinned playfully.
---
"Ha ha, very funny Jada." His tail flicked and he regarded the woman with steady silvery-grey eyes. "Chicken with a little lemon, some strange casserol that Ren made before he left, and whatever else Bree and Beck haven't eaten." The kitsune crouched down so he was closer to being on Mara's level, expression gentle. "HI Mara...I know we're noisy, but don't worry...we're good people." The "mostly" at the end of that sentance was added under his breath. Khia shifted into his lupine form and chuffed at Mara's feet, looking for all the world like an oversized stupid dog. "Wuff." He did it on purpose...sometimes, it seemed people were more comfortable with him if he adopted a certain form...something less threatening, perhaps?
---
"I thought it was bloody hilarious."
Wide eyes and silence met Syrie's gaze, and a little squeal came from the youngster when Khiarhu shifted, leaving him pressed up against the woman's legs in fear. Who WERE these people? Still, after a moment, he couldn't help natural curiosity getting the better of him; even if he was afraid, he did have some measurement of normalcy in him. Cautiously, the dual-coloured Tale scooted over towards Khia, reaching out to grab at an ear curiously. "Doggie?"
Jadaria laughed a little bit. "No, no Mara. Be careful baby. That's still Khia. He changed, kinda like Zon and Rejie and Maan do, remember? Be careful not to pull too hard..." She let out a sigh, then offered a half shrug to Syrie.
Mara's brows twisted together in thought as he struggled to process this information. A few moments later, though, the formerly afraid child latched onto Khia's face, giggling in delight. "Doggiekeeeaah~"
Jadaria just shook her head, rolling her eyes. "Close enough," she laughed, softly. At least the boy wasn't terrified of animals, for whatever reason.
---
"Don't worry, he's used to being chewed, clawed and yanked. He gets to meet a lot of the newly born Tales." He chuckles and eyes his dark child, the scary one that is so gentle most of the time. "Thanks Khia, I hope you don't have to eat dinner like that..." The fox gestured into the house more, leading - or trying to lead - the group into a dining hall; he'd set up only at one end, but it could have easily sat thirty had he wished it. Khia just whuffed and delicately licked at the boy's hands; if being a "dog" would get the kid to accept him a little, that was fine. Most kids reacted better to the "beast" Khia than his shifted form anyway. He chuffed and his tail poofed a little at being grabbed like that, but he took it all with good humor and one long suffering sigh, then started wagging his tail like a good dog would.
---
"Ah.. still. Shouldn't make him suffer through more. And Mara's gotta learn that Khia won't hurt him anyway. C'mon, sweetie, let's go eat, okay?" Jadaria leaned down to tug her son loose from the so call 'doggie.' Mara let out a little whine, wrapping his arms around Khiarhu's neck and clinging defiantly. This perplexed the woman - Maravilha wasn't usually very persistant about much of anything when it came to new people! Still, there was food to be eaten.
"Okay, okay, sweetie. You can play with Khia after dinner, okay? Let him go - you wouldn't want to be tugged around like that, would you?" After a few moments, the boy did as he was told - as well trained as any of her children - and took her hand. Jadaria offered a rather tired smile to the shifter, then tugged her son along after his 'uncle.' "And you can shift back if you want, Khia. He DOES need to get used to you."
---
"He will...Khia won't stay that way for too long...He'll get sick of it." Another flick of his tail and the kitsune was pulling out chairs for Jada and Mara, and pulling covers off of the food he'd prepared earlier; pieces of the chicken were missing, probably due to Dust Games, but everything was done nicely and would likely be delicious~ Syrie was a good house b***h like that. The big black shifter whuffed again, and shifted back to his usual form, sliding into his chair as his body reshaped itself rapidly. "Yeah well...at least this way he'll associate my scent with something that's not scary." He wagged his tail and chuffed again.
---
"That's true," Jada decided lightly, picking Maravilha up and settling him in his chair once they reached it. As it turned out, the boy was already more than tall enough to sit at the table - even if he was quite young. It made the woman laugh a bit, and she patted his head lightly before leaning down to kiss him on the cheek. He blushed furiously, but dealt with it well enough - for the most part. "Such a tall boy... He's going to be a giant when he gets older, I bet. You know he's already three-ten? He's almost four feet tall!"
Maravilha wasn't really sure what was so great about all that - so he was 'tall?' He didn't feel tall. Everyone was taller than him! Kajika and Luc and and and... well. They were all taller than him. The dusts were taller if they WANTED to be. Still, the little one sat more or less still - until he found that if he wriggled a certain way, his chair wobbled just a little bit - but not enough for anyone else to notice. This pleased him, and set him into a wriggling spree, as it were.
At least, until there came a light swat at his head as Jadaria took her own seat. He pouted pointedly at his mother, but stopped wiggling.
---
Khia's bright red eyes focused on the strange boy - could he really consider Mara strange when he was such an odd creature himself? Probably not. "You don't know that for sure, I was tiny when I was little, and now I'm big enough to cause problems, as Dad likes to remind me." He skinned his muzzle back in what equated a grin in the world of muzzled beasts, but did indeed look feriocious and wickedly threatening. "He is likely the tallest of the children, by far...we'll see if he continues to grow like that..." Syrie motioned for everyone to dig in and get what they wanted - he'd made a lot of food, with lots of different things, mostly because Khia ate enough for three and he wanted to be certain that there was something for everyone to eat. He fixed his own plate and poured everyone a drink - a light wine for himself and Jadaria, cider for Mara and Khia. "I hope he'll like that..." If Mara wanted something else to drink, that was fine too, the Manor was well stocked.
---
"He should be fine, Sy," Jadaria said first, setting herself first to serving Maravilha - who had started more or less cowering in his seat from Khiarhu's "grin," then fixed herself something to eat - after making sure that a napkin was spread over the boy's lap and that he could reach his food properly. "Tell me if you want anything else though, okay baby?" Maravilha nodded, then set into digging at his food - still mastering the finer 'art' of using a fork properly.
"And... well. I know. But call it... a mother's instinct." The woman grinned as she took her own bite of food, then shook her head. "I mean, I know he COULD stay as 'tall' as he is now forever - but I've just got this feeling about him, you know? I don't know. Maybe I'm just crazy."
"Mommy not cazee," Mara mumbled through a mouthful of food. His mother cast a soft smile at him, then let it turn stern.
"No talking with your mouth full! So, Syrie. Khia. What have you two been up to recently?"
---
Syrie too Jada's word for that, and went back to filling his plate, glowering at his son for trying to eat with his hands instead of silverware, and eating some of the food himself; he wasn't too hungry honestly, he'd been kind of pining for something recently and it kept his appetite down low, but...it was good food. The shapeshifting Tale gave up trying to eat with his claws and gave in to Syrie's unspoken - but very well "heard" - admonishment to eat like a "proper" person would, not an animal. "Kiddo, your mom's nuts, just FYI." He filled his plate and immediately started in on it, ignoring any glares he might have gotten from Syrie. "Khia..." It was a word full of warning. This wasn't the first time recently that Khia'd said something untoward at an adult. "I trust your intuition...and there's something there that doesn't feel small..I agree."
---
Jada shot a warning look over at Khia as well, then shook her head and turned her attention back to the kitsune. "You think so too? I'm fairly certain. I'm not sure what it is - but then, I'm not really sure about any of these kids at first." She grinned rather widely. "I guess it's just a learning experience, huh? Heh. I do hope he doesn't pick up the bad manners from any of his brothers or... cousins."
The subtle hint wasn't really that 'subtle' when the blue haired woman shot another glance over at Khiarhu; she treated most of Syrie's children like her own, anyway - so she didn't feel bad about it. Maravilha was busy crinkling his nose and staring at Khiarhu curiously. After a few moments, he decided that he didn't like the fuzzy black thing - he didn't think his mommy was nuts. Nuts was for those people on the teevee that did bad things he couldn't know about. His mommy didn't do bad things! So she couldn't be crazy.
"Whassis?" he interrupted, poking at his food.
"Eat it, you'll like it."
"Looks funnee..."
"Sweetie, mommy's talking. Eat your food - Uncle Sy wouldn't make you anything bad, would he?"
Mara shot an overly speculative look at Syrie, then decided to trust his mother - biting into the food curiously. After making a game of poking at it and making it slide around his plate, of course.
---
Khiarhu grunted a little, and toyed with his food before eating it. He was edgy and twitchy and trying very hard to hide it; oh, he thought Jadaria was crazy, yes - that didn't change - but he would have found a better way to say it, usually. That was probably why Syrie kept casting him odd little worried looks; the kitsune was an empath and could pick up on his unrest. "Whatever..." He didn't like her insinuation, and it made him bristle visibly. "Come on now, you know very well both our kids will do their best to teach him things too quickly...it's their chief joy, I swear..." The short kitsune did the best he could to diffuse a situation before it became one - by interrupting and hissing a little at Khia. What was wrong with his son lately? First Nanashi, now Jada...peculiar! "I promise you kiddo, it's not bad. I like your mom too much to make funny food for her." A little chuckle came from Khia, and this time it was more like the way he usually was; not making fun of anything, but just laughing. "Dad, you make funny food anyway...we've just all gotten used to it."
---
Jadaria relaxed a little bit at Syrie's talk of the other children, and she couldn't help smiling a bit. "You're right... they will." She gave a hefty, overly dramatic sigh and shook her head. "I guess that's just what happens with big families though. Especially with Luc and Kaji in the house! Goodness. Not that he'd be any safer over here, though..." She grinned playfully at the kitsune, then glanced over at Khia - already feeling bad for snapping indirectly at him, even if he DID deserve it, in her opinion. She was NOT crazy.
No matter how many people thought she was.
"No funnee food?" Mara's little voice piped up, and then went quiet when his mother's eyes turned curiously on him. He wasn't supposed to interrupt! But he'd been spoken to, right? So it was okay if he said something - that was the rule, right? The mental 'stress' that the decision caused made the rest of his body react - the little tendrils from his shoulder wriggling a bit, the green markings engraved in his arm glowing a tad brighter.
"Unca' Sy dun' make funnee food? But Luc said... Luc said..." He struggled for a moment, brows crunching together - then a bright smile crossed over his face, and an inverse look of terror spread over Jada's at about the same time, as though she already knew what was coming.
"Luc said Unca' Sy dunno 'ow t'cook. Luc said not t'eat an'thin' tha looked funnee from Unca' Sy 'cause I might gets sickses," he declared proudly. Jada groaned and covered her face with a hand, shaking her head.
"What have I said about listening to your brothers?" she muttered under her breath.
---
Perhaps Syrie was one of the few people that didn't think Jadaria was crazy to one extent or other - that might have been why they'd actually gotten close in the first place; she wasn't crazy, just misunderstood...or something. It was undefinable, and usually the kitsune didn't bother thinking about it: Jada was Jada. That's really all there was to it; his black tipped ears flicked a little as he ate, listening to the predominately vowel speach Mara gave them. "...Luc is a PITA, by the way. I think I've said that before, haven't I?" But he was trying not to laugh - he cooked just fine, there were just a few things he could not do...like bake. Luc had been around when Sy was trying to bake before....and yeah, if you tried eating something he'd baked, you'd likely get sick. For whatever reason, the fox could cook like a dream...but he couldn't bake for s**t. "Dad can cook...he just can't bake for shi-er, he can't bake real well." Khia managed to stop the obscenity before it came all the way out; he'd settled a little, and didn't want to fight - even just a little - with anyone to make the unease return.

...//Solo - The Kitsune's New Look A small red warning light flashed, splashing the walls of the lab crimson in five second pulses. It caught the attention of two smallish Dustling Dragons and a rather large Pard that had been lazing about in various parts of the Grand Manor.
Deep below the ground in a laboratory that while secluded was by no-means entirely a secret, a kitsune lay stunned; sprawled on the floor and surrounded by shattered glass and a strangely vibrant greenish haze. His chest rose and fell normally and his fingers twitched; he had been stunned by the explosion more than harmed -- had it been worse, the entire system would have been tripped and the sirens would have sounded as well as the automated system going into effect.
Thankfully, the explosion had been a very minor one that didn't require any sort of herculean efforts -- as a matter of fact, by the time Bree, Beck and Tougen made it to the still closed-off laboratory entrance, Syrie was pushing himself up off the floor and waving one hand to wave away the haze.
"What a strange--" cough "--reaction--" cough. The russet kitsune cough-grumbled his way into a sitting position, mindful of the glass that was scattered haphazardly about his body. "I wonder why--" cough cough "--it did that this time..." He slowly rose to his feet and brushed bits of glass from his skin, his healing powers already at work pushing out small slivers of beaker and flask from his flesh with minute plinking sounds when the pieces fell to the floor.
"What a mess..." Syrie shook his head and gingerly moved towards a small closet filled with cleaning apparatus for just such occasions. So involved was he that though he passed several reflective surfaces in the course of his quick-but-thorough clean-up (and shut-down of the alert system) that he didn't notice anything was amiss.
That is, until Khiarhu came down stairs. "Hey Dad? What happened -- the light went off an--"
Khia stared at his petite parent with a quizzical expression on his darkly furred face. Syrie looked almost as he always did...but his hair had changed from a ruddy-golden colour to a vibrantly mint color...kind of like the toothpaste he'd seen the man using.
"Dad...uh...what happened to your hair?"
Syrie's ears pricked at his son and his expression was one that said plainly he didn't know what the shape-shifter was talking about. Until he reached up and pulled some of his bangs down so he could look. "Oh Inari, what's this?" Such an unexpected and irreverent sort of side-effect to an explosion...it made the kitsune want to know what had gotten into his mix; what had caused such a strange explosion and even stranger cosmetic effect.
"I was making another batch of the holding solution I've been working with for the stains....and I can't imagine what set the chemicals off...but suddenly I found myself surrounded by a haze of smoke and on the ground." He crossed his arms over his chest; mind not dwelling too long on his changed hair -- not when there were far more interesting things to puzzle out.
"Didn't change the procedure at all...so something must have gotten into the chemicals...probably one of those dratted Sprockets!"
Said sprockets were zipping around the room in various stages of Useful; they were part of the reason that Syrie could keep up his lab without outside help...and they were part of the reason he'd had the emergency system installed. They liked to cause trouble. Entirely on accident.
Khiarhu snorted; he knew that his father's fond tone was no artifice -- the kitsune really enjoyed his sprocket helpers. "Well...it's good you're okay. Guess I'll go back upstairs and let everyone know." The bulky black creature turned and started his way out of the upper level of the lab (the only level any of the "kids" were allowed in)..but when he touched one hand to the safety rail, he paused and turned.
"Hey, Dad...?"
White-tipped tail flicking as he canted his body in Khia's direction, Syrie answered, "Hmm? Did you need something?" Brightly coloured hair fell into the kitsune's eyes -- it seemed he couldn't stop looking at it now that he'd been informed it was there. Bugger. This was going to be quite the shocker to the kids...and to Nanashi.
But why had it happened in the first place? Could he reproducet he results...?
Wickedly pointed teeth glinted dully under the flourescent lights as the shape-shifting Tale opened his muzzle as though to speak; before words could bubble up from his brain and form themselves onto his tongue, before sound was birthed into the world it died.
Nothing. Say nothing...or he will know and you will die as others should...
Khia's nostrils flared and then he shook his shaggy head a bit. "Be careful, okay?" It sounded wooden and forced to him...but Syrie didn't notice, he was still too deep in his own thoughts to realize that the oil-slick feeling that crawled up his spine momentarily was from his son.
Upstairs, all those waiting were reassured that the only thing that had suffered from the minor mishap in the lab was the ktsune's ability to look good in various hues by virtue of his now-mint coloured hair and they dispersed to various corners of the Manor; returning to their own diversions, secure in the knowledge that all was Well.
At least, that's how it seemed, then

...//Solo - A Crack in the Wall Khiarhu rolled over on his bed and stared out the window, musing to himself and trying to see that his emotions and the like were kept in short check. He didn't want to have another fight with his parent...or with Bree or Beck or Ankou or any of the others....not when he was finding it harder and harder to restrain himself around them.
Fight. Bite. Claw. Tearing flesh apart. Fangs biting deep into soft throats. Blood -- thick and coppery across his tongue. Filling his mouth, flooding his senses.
The shape-shifter's claw-tipped fingers spread across his stomach and pressed in; the fur crackling and rippling as the pressure from his hand moved from one side to the other.
It was dark out, but the stars were bright and sometimes his keen eyes could catch glimpses and glimmers of life stirring in the outside...not too much though; warm as it could be during the daytimes, the nights could be quite cold...and for the past week or so it had been chillier than usual.
Khia sighed and rolled off his bed so he could open his window, chill some of the heat from his simmering blood. "The moon...." Words rasped through fang and muzzle in a gravelly, semi-mangled sound to rest in the air like lead weights..
He watched the night for a while, standing with his hands on either side of the window sill, the chilly breeze ruffling his dense fur, his short hair. Eventually, the shape-shifting Tale shut the window and pushed away from the night-sights and the night-sounds and the night-smells. "Hnn..." Khiarhu felt a little bit calmer, more in control of himself again, so he slipped out of his bedroom and slunk about the Manor silently; a living shadow on the move.
The Grand Manor was relatively quiet at night; just about everyone was sleeping - or settling in to sleep. The best time for one very troubled teenaged beast to be slinking around - or so he supposed. Down. Down the stairs he padded on silent feet, tail twitching and curling behind him as he moved.
"...?" Khia's head turned a bit when he reached the bottom step and he paused, one hand on the ballister. A lightness in the dark, down towards...the Library? The front room? Khia couldn't tell from where he was, but it didn't take long before the shifter was moving in the direction of the 'disturbance'. It could have been anything or anyone...but he wanted to know.
Closer he moved to the small front study -- yes, the door was mostly shut but a very filtered and subdued light came from there...and there was a scent, familiar and not precisely welcomed.
Nanashi.
The black kitsune was asleep in one of the overstuffed chairs, a book open and resting on his knee. He was shivering a little bit in the chill -- not sleeping very deeply at all, but deep enough he wasn't really awake either. "..." Khiarhu sighed and watched the man for a bit -- this was the person his dad had accepted as a mate. Maybe he wasn't so bad? What if it was just this...strangeness he was feeling inside that had him feeling so negatively towards Nanashi?
Syrie usually had excellent taste...so...
A quandry faced the shape-shifting teen and he stood, uncertain, for a good five minutes before seeming to make up his mind about something. The red-eyed Tale slipped back out of the room, returning a very short while later with a thick blanket that he lay over his father's lover carefully.
He still didn't feel any sort of like for the other man...but...he couldn't fault the logic that his own brain had presented him: Syrie loved this man, had taken him to bed and into their home...Khia owed it to his father to give the black-tailed fox some sort of chance.
"...I still don't like you." And with that, the black-furred Tale shifted into a beastial form and sank back into the shadows of the house and out into the night.

...//Solo - Gaia Strikes Again! Reference Post in Rukashel's Journal
Khiarhu flicked his tail and growled a little bit before slowly sliding his way out under the door and into the hallway, reforming into his bipedal form once he was well out from under the door. Sometimes, being able to change into a very thin thing -- like a wall was useful. He'd heard the whole story about that stupid damned gem that was slowly sapping his parent's life from him to grow.
It made him upset and angry that Syrie would find something so dangerous as that gem when there was so much else going on at the moment (though he'd certainly been listening to the 'bleeding heart' crap spouted by his far-too generous adoptive parent).
Oddly enough, the thought of siphoning life like that also made Khia feel a little bit...hungry...and he licked his muzzle with a long, forked tongue as though tasting energy, raw and fresh and--

...//PRP - Bunnies are NOT for Eating Chieko The sun is slowly sinking towords it's resting place in the horizen as the blonde haired bunny boy wandered down the road, looking around "Heeeere little manic, crazy, blood thirsy bunny~~ I've got a puppy for you~~" He really didn't have a puppy, but, he figured this particular bunny would like it. The bunny in question was actually stalking Cedric, a wicked glint in it's eyes Syrie Puppy? Pfft. No, he would not fall for anything so mundane...no, this was one rabbit with an agenda: biting Cedric. He hopped quietly, fluffy tail trailing behind his big haunches as his bright eyes followed the blond he was physically stalking after.
Unknowing that his fate was about to cross with that of a homicidal, psychotic little rabbit, Khia was wandering shops and the like; he was on a mission: Syrie had sent him out for bunny food to feed Poe and Ellipsis. Chieko Cedric had no idea the bunny was stalking him, though he should have known better. The rabbit in question had been one mean little kit back at the farm, and quite frankly, Cedric had been glad when he had disspeared. Chieko, on the other hand, had worried, and had sent Cedric out to find it. The rabbit man suspected it was just an excuse for the pink headed woman to call over her lover, an admitedly handsome blue man, but that was still no reason to make Cedric do all this leg work. The rabbit man finally sighed, and put his hands on his hips, looking around* ".....Stupid rabbit...." Syrie No idea...and he wouldn't know until the vicious little beast had launched it's oily-looking black body at him and latched on, teeth and claws sinking into the thick fabric of his pants, reaching for the vulnerable and oh-so-delightful flesh of Cedric's leg. There was no sound to warn him, only the pattita-pattita of little bunny feets 'galloping' across the ground. Poor Cedric.
Khia, having wandered around a bit looking for someone to assist him with his purchases but finding no one, sniffed at the air a bit - what an odd scent! The shapeshifter grunted a bit and set off towards the scent - perhaps the person with the interesting smell could help him get the food he needed? Chieko Cedric's mouth fell open, and he inhaled deeply, his eyes bugging, before he let out a very loud hollar of pain. He leapt up into the air, quite an impressive height, before he landed and started to shake his leg "GET OFF ME YOU VORPRIL LITTLE MONSTER!" He screamed, his voice rather shrill due to the pain. It wasn't hard to see him, as he was creating quite the scene with this odd rabbit on his leg. Syrie The vicious little inky-black bunny made a sound through it's sharp little teeth that was probably a chortle of some sort, but muffled due to flesh and fabric. He did not let go, not even when a rather large, rather imposing beast-creature came galloping up, ready to help.
"What's going on here?" Khia's ears were flat against his head as he spoke; he'd come at a run when he'd heard someone shrieking..but this sight was just...hilarious and mind-boggling. The shifter flicked his tail and tried to help Cedric remove the ...was that a bunny!? - from his leg. "Let go, or I'll eat you." He hissed and tugged while the beast pondered his threat. Chieko OH! A big dark knight had come to his rescue~ How charming and romantic~ That would normally be Cedric's thinking, except he could see his own blood staining his favorite, a** hugging pair of pants. He flailed his arms a bit, inhaling with a hiss, as it was painful, stretching his leg out towards Khia "Oh god, please get the little monster off! THen you can roast it! Do you hear me?! Roast it!" He leaned in closed to the bunny, his leg still stretched out, showing how flexable he was. Syrie Khia grasped the biting rabbit by it's tail and shoved thick fingers between it's teeth and Cedric's leg, shifting his digits until he had pried the hateful and blood-thirsty little creature off the poor blond. "Christ, what sort of rabbit is this?" He held the creature up by it's tail and watched it swing it's flexible little body up to sink it's teeth into his flesh...unfortunately, it didn't work. Khiarhu just shifted his hand so the bunny was trapped - teeth imbedded into space that was not flesh.
"Are you okay..uh...I don't know your name, sorry." As much as he might have considered roasting or eating the small black bunny...it was really odd - it had horns like his own, and a long fluffy tail...just like his. It made him curious. Chieko ".....Cedric...." His leg was KILLING him, and he hissed at the rabbit "Guess what little mister insane rabbit, you don't get to come home, which means no more humping the other rabbits, or fresh lettece, or anything!" He groaned a little "Thank you so much for helping me...." He gave Khia a smile, then blushed a little as he realized Khia was hot, the shyness that he was known for suddenly starting to creep up on him. Syrie "I'm Khiarhu...everyone calls me Khia." He frowned a little bit at the bloody jeans, that could be a nasty bite - the little rabbit, though trapped by his shapeshifting nature, was still struggling to bite him and Khia could well feel his little fangs. "Are you sure this is a rabbit? It doesn't look like one..." The dark-furred almost-man flicked his tail and cocked his head at Cedric. "We should have a look at that..." Chieko "uh..." His eyes darted to the side, hesitant to speak "....I-I-It is a r-rabbit...." He stuttered, and sighed. He then blinked at the rabbit, then at Khia ".....Wh-What are you d-d-d-doing with it?" He asked, looking surprised. He looked down at his leg, and sighed a bit "Ch-Ch-Ch-Chieko will b-bandage me u-up... b-but it's a l-long w-walk home..." Syrie "I'm just keeping it from hurting anyone else. It doesn't look like a rabbit...it looks kind of like me." Actually, he was pondering eating it...but he really didn't think that the other bunny - Cedric was obviously a bunny - would appreciate that too much. "I'll carry you back, if you want." He could shift into a beast and the bunny could ride on his back! Wouldn't that be fun? As for the aaaangry ink-blot of a rabbit, he could turn part of his body into a little prison and keep it there. Chieko "....C-C-C-C-Carry me?! O-O-Oh n-n-no, th-that's f-fine...." He blushed darkly at that, one hand resting over his chest, right over his heart. His eyes looked a little wide. "...Wh-What... What a-are you?" He asked, trying to change the subject and control his stutter Syrie "I'm...a shapeshifter." His thick tail flicked behind him as his fur rippled as though it had a life all it's own. "I guarantee it'll be a smooth ride." Because yah, he was like a big jungle cat or a wolf...but better. The ruby-eyed rabbit was not impressed. Not one bit. Chieko Cedric's lip quivered, and he slowly shook his head "N-No, I-I... I don't th-think that would b-b-be a g-good idea...." He said, very meekly. His heart was slamming in his chest. Poor Cedric, he spent so much time on the farm, he didn't recognize when someone wasn't flirting with him. It didn't help that Khia had SAVED him. "I-I... I-I think I-I'll just c-call Chi-Chi-Chieko...." Syrie Khia snorted and flicked his tail as his thick body changed and morphed slowly into that of a very large land-running lupine creature. His jaws cracked open and his long pink tongue lolled a bit - he couldn't speak normally in this form..but he could do something sort of like the mother wolf from Mononoke Hime. "Up." But he could tell Cedric wasn't going to move on his own...so what did he do? He moved closer and picked the bunnyboy up with his tail, sliding his body under him and warning him to hold on.
Bunny was stuck in a flesh-cage of sorts...and was grumpy and gnawing. Stupid THING. Chieko Cedric let out a startled gasp at the sight of a wolf, and then squeaked at being picked up by the tail. He clung to the wolf, his eyes bugging hard. He couldn't believe this was happening, it was amazing and terrifying at the same time. He also wondered what CHieko would do when she saw this. Syrie "Where." The great beast rumbled his question as Cedric clung to his shaggy mane - were they to go back to the place he'd started from, or elsewhere? Khia completely ignored the devilish rabbit gnawing at his malleable flesh. Chieko "A-Ah...." He gave Khia stuttering directions, barely able to be understood, and he clung harder to the beast, shivering. By now Cedric had completly forgotten about the pain in his leg, and the rabbit he had been sent to find Syrie Lucky for Cedric the beast was able to follow his stuttered directions fairly well due to the scent he could catch - his nose was better than a bloodhounds, and he was grateful for that. The big dark colored beast galloped to Chieko's home, but made certain that his 'companions' were jolted as little as possible until they came closer; whereupon he dropped from a loping gallop to a padding trot. "Here?" Chieko "Y-Yes! Here, here is great..." He said, surprised at how smooth the ride was. He moved to sit up, smiling.
Chieko was out in the yard, waiting for Cedric to come home, worried that there had been bunny homicide, when her jaw dropped at the sight of Khia. Her eyes bugged, and she inhaled, hard
Victor was off to the side, smelling the flowers of a rosebush, and he didn't notice them approach Syrie Khia-the-beast slunk forward a bit more before lowering his massive body to the ground so that Cedric could slide off; once the bunny dismounted he would shift back into his bipedal form, still holding that crazy bunny rabbit.
"Hello ma'am...Cedric was injured by this ...ah, rabbit." Khiarhu's crimson eyes searched out another scent - a familiar magic scent that was tainted with something else (as all Tales were). He spotted the slender, pale boy and flicked his ears knowing the child for what he was. Chieko Chieko's mouth still hung in the air as she watched, and she didn't reply, until Cedric limped over to her. She gasped, and moved to rush Cedric inside to bandage him up "Thank you for bringing him home, Sorry, I'm Chieko!" She called back, concerned for her friend.
Victor had turned around just in time for the shift, and he gasped softly, looking amazed and impressed. He blinked at the other man, then offered a soft, polite smile, also knowing. "....I am Victor." Syrie The shapeshifter watched Chieko running off to take care of Cedric a moment before turning to face the young Tale. "I'm Khia. You're a Tale, aren't you?" Sometimes, his nose lied to him...or just didn't work properly thanks to the limiters that were imbedded into his silky flesh. He felt in his bones that this boy was a Tale, but wanted to be certain. Chieko "I am a Tale." He moved closer to the gate, and offered a small bow, before holding it open for the other tale "Would you like to come in for some tea?" He asked, very politely. He wasn't wearing his usual tale clothing today, instead, a button up shirt and jeans, his hair down. Syrie "I thought so. You scent like one." The tall beast dipped his head a little and stepped through the gate, careful of his tail. "I don't know that I should come in...I really just wanted rabbit food...but this little sucker attacked Cedric..." Khia held up the bunny that was once again in his hand, trapped. It was obviously sulking. Chieko "Oh, you own rabbits? It's possible you purchased the rabbits from here. We also supply rabbit foods of all kinds, if you want." He smiled, then looked at the rabbit, the smile fading a bit "Oh, that one." He said, and that's all he said. "Would you like to see what we sell....?" Syrie Victor's behavior towards the odd oilslick of a bunny piqued his curiousity. "I think we did. Dad mentioned a blond bunny-boy and a pink-haired woman. I need to get them food." He looked doubtfully at the little gnawing bunny. "What am I supposed to do with this? I can't let it go." And..well...it looked like him. Chieko "...It looks like you, a little bit. Chieko mentioned there have been other bunnies, that seemed fated for certain people. Maybe this one is for you." He says, before he smiles up at Khia, charmingly for the young boy. He then moves towards the house, and opens the door, heading inside, and towards another door, opening it up to reveal a little shop of all sorts of different rabbit owner supplies. Syrie "Yeah...it does." The taller Tale (ahahaha, punny) listened intently and then eyed the ruby-eyed rabbit. "Between my horns you go...for now." He set the rabbit atop his head and then used some of his hair to pin the creature in place. "Ah...wonderful...is there a special kind of food I need for them...or just normal rabbit feed?" Syrie hadn't told him what to buy specifically and now that he was walking by all the different things, he was a little at a loss. Chieko "You can feed them lettece, or let them graze in your backyard even, but it's recommended you get pellets for needed vitamins. Do you want me to set you up with a care package? Then you don't have to worry about picking it out." Victor smield, enjoying helping the other Tale, though he was very interested in learning more. He also noticed, however, how very interesting this tale was, and he once again felt very plain. Syrie "Yeah...I think that'd be best...and pellets - I think that's what Dad wanted for Poe and Ellipsis..." Khia didn't find Victor plain - but he didn't see things normally. As a gallu, he caught things others wouldn't. Victor had an interesting scent and aura...he was older than his scent too. "You're kind of old for being so new..." Chieko "Pardon?" Victor asked, blinking at him. He put together the package, and moved to ring it into the register, naming a nice, cheap price, cheaper then Khia could have gotten anywhere else "I don't understand what you mean." He tilted his head to the side, some black hair falling into his face Syrie "Your scent...you came from the Tome recently, but you're already older." He snorted a bit. "I know about it all...I'm one of the first." Chieko "...Oh, I've been told I'm different, that way.... I'm not sure why. You were the first? That's very interesting..." He smield at Khia, and nodded "Perhaps you can teach me how to fit in." Syrie "One of them." Linneas had been the first, at least he was pretty certain that was true. "I wouldn't worry about it too much Victor, we're all a little odd." They came from Books! He cocked his head and fished out his wallet to pay for the purchases. "Uh, what do I owe for er...this creepy little golem?" Meaning, the bunny atop his head. Chieko "....You can keep it, think of it as our thank you for you taking him off our hands. He does nothing but attack Cedic, and try and... ah... make love to my leg." He said, rather bitterly. "How many other tales have you met?" He asked Syrie Khia snorted a little at the boy's halting admission that the rabbit in question humped his leg. "Okay...I guess I'll just call him 'Golem' then." The rabbit would go home with him it seemed. Ah well. "Uh...I've met a few. Linny, Olivia, Nalira, Aido, Jiro, Blue...Viddy, Tybalt and now you.." He shrugged a little bit. "I don't know many of them very well." Chieko His face perked up when he mentioned Blue "Blue! I really enjoy Blue's company. He's very nice." He smiled at Khia, looking pleased. "I am also glad you came over. Would you like some tea?" He asked, tilting his head to the side cutely Syrie "I really gotta get home...but hey, how about I come by later, once I get this monster-rabbit p Chieko "Of course, it would be my pleasure." He smiled at Khia, not really midning the sidestepping. He just assumed Khia didn't like tea, he didn't even take the muzzle into account. He moved to open the door for Khia, while pushing some black hair behind his ear "It was very nice to meet you." Syrie "It was nice meeting you too Victor...you should come out to visit sometime too - we've got a lot of space. Bring your, ah, bring the lady with ya'!" Khia cradled his bag of rabbit things to his chest and took off at a lope, his body slowly morphing into a quadrupedal form; the items dissappearing into his pitch body as he ran. Running was joy. Chieko Victor watched after him, still smiling politely, before it slowly vanished. For some reason, Khia's presence made his heart heavy, and he had no idea why. He moved to close the door, and go check on Cedric...
