Binti froze, her nose atwitch. I smell..other lions. she thought to herself, her upper lip curling back into a snarl even before she heard the confrontation at the waterhole, the sounds barely reaching her ears...but sufficient to have her snarling at Essien to meet her at the watering hole and bounding off. All I wanted was somewhere to live by myself... she pondered idly, claws digging into the ground as she bounded across the plains, not really taking much care to hide her movement.

Her body trembling with the pent up energy, the young cheetah spared just a quick flick of her eyes to the side, and her black ears quivered as she heard faint noises behind her. The pridecat had brought friends! Terror started melting into her brain, and she reinforced it with another snarl, dancing lightly round until she was between the sooty cub and the water's edge, her tail swishing from side to side, her eyes narrowed.

Binti skidded to a stop as she arrived at the watering hole, and eyed the cheetah cub oddly, tilting her head slightly to the side, before turning to look at the only visible lion cub, although she COULD smell others. "What," she began, an aggressive glint in her eye "seems to be the problem? Last I checked, for purposes of EVERYONE's survival, watering holes are usually SHARED..." she said, her voice deceptively soft.

Kivuli trotted up to the watering hole, her head down and tail tucked inbetween her hind legs. She was just going to get a quick sip of water, avoiding eye contact with any other cats, and then bolt out of there.

Of course the young lioness was shocked to see that the other cats she'd been so afraid of were... cubs! She stared at an intricately patterned lion cub and a spotted cat of some sort who were having an arguement over something or other.

Binti's ear flicked back towards the juvenile lioness, but her eyes never left the lioness and cheetah cubs before her.

Laio spat slightly, her fragile shell of bravado still holding. "My territory, pridecat. You may drink, if you ask. But then move on." She tossed her head slightly, trying to keep her unaccustomed poseof arrogance. After all, isn't that how you're supposed to denote your territory? Anxious thoughts were an undercurrent in her taut young frame. But now there was a larger one coming, that soft-eyed grey female pridecat. There were too many... an impulse came upon her to run, and she fought fiercely within herself.

Kivuli studied the spotted cat, who seemed to be getting more and more nervous. She flicked her ears back submissively, to show that she was not a threat.

"I'm sorry if I startled you, I only meant to get a drink of water."

Water dripped freely from Kono's lower jaw as she raised her head at Laio's yell. She snorted and rolled her oddly-colored eyes, "It's not like you need ALL of it. Besides, aren't your kind supposed to run AFTER prey instead of sulking about and pouncing on them when they least expect it?" She flicked her tail before lowering her head again, lapping the water up quickly.

As the other lions arrived on the scene, Kono-epesi removed her paws from the water and noted their presence. A few quick sniffs of the air recorded their scents to memory -- just in case. "Now, I'm going to go hunt birds. Seeya!" With that, the cub quickly turned and darted off and into the grass, her swift paws nearly stumbling onto and over the golden-hued lioness crouched there. "Merf!" She squeaked, darting away and tripping on her own paws. "Ow!"

(Hmm, I seem to have missed, oh... everything. xD)

Puzzled for a moment by Binti's sudden command, Essien takes a moment to try to figure it out before giving in. Ah well... she knew best, didn't she? He approaches the watering hole as leisurely as anyone without a clue. His ears p***k forward anxiously to hear the conversation, but apparently he doesn't hear enough to understand that he did not want to butt into this.

"Miss Binti!" He calls out, then quickly clamps his mouth shut, staring around him for the first time with curious eyes. More lionesses...? Was he really this lucky? He smiles his smoothest, falling in behind Binti out of habit.

Kikora watched the drama unfolding by the water's edge with half-closed green eyes. The heat of the day was making her incredibly tired...she swayed even as she crouched; her eyelids were becoming heavy.

The next moment, Kikora was knocked onto her side as something large and black ran into her. She was immediately alert again, though she started in surprise as the other cub cried out. Oh no, she thought desparately.
"Oh, I'm sorry! Are you alright?"

Binti snarled, flashing impressive, if still young, teeth. "Last I checked, Your kind share lion territory...you overstep yourself, to claim this territory all for yourself..." she said, teeth still bared. She didn't move as Essien emerged behind her, but did hiss a quick "Don't get in my way!", not even responding to the lioness cub who'd drunk her fill and left, or to the adolescent who spoke so much like a pacifist.

((she's so aggressiveeeeee...*whine* xd ;; *would thwap her* play nice with the other kiddies! domokun ))

Kivuli sighed heavily and stepped forward to get a drink of water. The cubs seemed perfectly harmless, even though the strangely-patterned one did seem to have a rather smart mouth on her... She watched that cub carefully out of the corner of her eye as she lapped at the small watering hole.

Laio stared around, body trembling, at the lions who now surrounded her. An unhappy look darted across her face, and then suddenly she was gone, racing around the side of the waerhole, paws kicking up gouts of dust, breath catching in her throat.
Some way off she nearly tripped, and staggered into the safety of a scrubby bush's shelter. As soon as she calmed down a bit, she began to berate herself fiercely.
"What was that all about, you stupid cub? Try being nice next time! Remeber that grey pridecat in the jungle? You could talk to her! And now you haven't a chance because of your stupid, stuckup behaviour, nd you lost the waterhole too." She laid her head on her black-tipped paws, skinny frame still heaving. If she could have cried she would have.

The grass before her shimmered, seeming to split into two than four before becoming two and one once again. Wait a second -- since when did the sky turn brown?

Dazed, Kono slowly sat up, stumbling as her paws rediscovered the ground beneather her. "Nnugh? Wh -- yeah, I'm all right." She closed her eyes and shook her head slowly, regaining her sense of gravity. "Why're you hiding in the grass? You blend in really well! I didn't even SEE you until I tripped! I'm called Kono-epesi -- what're you called?"

The other cub didn't seem angry...Kikora tilted her head to one side, studying her. In fact, she seemed friendly! Kikora hadn't met a lot of friendly cubs in her travels.

"I'm Kikora," she said brightly. She felt strangely relieved that the other cub - Kono-epesi, what a nice name! - wasn't annoyed at her. "Good, I'm glad you're feelin' ok." She ducked her head, embarassed. "It's happened to me before, you see. I dunno, I guess it's not that great to blend in well."

Kikora frowned at the ground, considering, but then looked up with a smile on her face. "At least it's easy t'hunt!" She said cheerfully. "How 'bout you, is it hard for you t'hunt with your coat?" As soon as she said that, Kikora realised that Kono might consider such a question offensive. "Not bein' rude 'bout it or anythin', it is pretty. Better than mine, at least," she offered with a grin.

((Poor Kikora, no self-confidence! And such bad grammar!))
