Plonky the Wondercat Keratin What I think is over-rated, is this s**t music they play on the radio. Oh wait are we only talking about art? Well there's there was this god awful art movemment called Dada... Or, oh, are we only talking about specific artists? Because I know this total d**k called Picasso who... Wait wait wait. I'm sorry. Are we mostly talking about contemporary artists, like the ones on internet. Man, I don't know how popular she is over-all, but there's this one artist that strikes me as being so over rated. She's got these crazy die-hard fans. Well, only one fan that I know of, but the fan is pretty close to me. And she's totally nuts over this artist, like you wouldn't beleive. I can't remember the artist's name though. It's like... the jew? Something like that, or maybe I have it all backwards. Whatever. Her art's really weird, and I think she has a condition that prevents her from typing legibly. At least, I assume it's a condition. What else could it be. is my Internet Sarcasm Filter broken, or is that supposed to be clever? OHHHHHH A BURN!

You know, I really should nominate myself. I'm not really that well recognized (or recognized at all), but I'm certainly not deserving of the money I make. Please understand that this is not false modesty. I honestly feel guilty making the kind of money I make from the kind of art I do.
http://www.loveandhotsauce.net/scdata/7s-docv/image6-19.png That made me $150, mere days ago.
http://www.loveandhotsauce.net/scdata/7s-docv/image4-10.jpg $200
http://www.loveandhotsauce.net/scdata/7s-docv/image4-11.png $150
list continues
If I weren't me, I'd want to punch me out.

Don't get me wrong. I've always liked your work.. but I'm going to agree with you here. >.< I can't imagine paying 150 bucks for any of that. I can't imagine paying 50 bucks for any of it. Personally. Maybe I'm spoiled to artists who don't charge as much, or I have a terrible grasp on what people are willing to pay?

I'm not sure like if you were being facetious or like really do dislike the dada movement....
But just for my 2cents, Dadaism wasn't about having great artistic skill- I know that is a really obvious 'well duh' thing to say, but I think there is a difference between artists who intend their work to provoke thought and mainly rely upon strong conceptual basis and those who intend their works to be aesthetic.
At first I would have regarded Yves Klein as one of those ‘overrated artists’ but after going through his manifesto and philosophical basis to his works it took on this whole new meaning and the art itself became unique and wonderful. Reading into his intentions really made me appreciate what he created.
And yah conclusively I think that people sometimes disregard artworks or artists before bothering to look closer. ninja ninja

I don't think that's a lot to pay really for a commercial project, maybe it's different in England. But if you're working on your own, freelance, supporting yourself then you can probably afford to charge a lot more. If you look at Jon Bugerman he's just sold a few canvases for about £150 each, and technically they're not... amazing. I love his work though, and you can bet that he charges a whole lot more for his commerical work. xx

i can imagine art for a book cover going for about that much. It's not like a comission or buying a limited edition print of something.....in the end, the author will be profiting partly by mass producing your work.
if you sold the cover art as prints for 15 dollars each, it would be the equivalent of them buying just ten, and i'm sure they're printing more than ten books.
or maybe i'm just really naive and dont know how these sorts of things work at all.

Lol ^-^ Even if it was for a small scale really I don't think it'd be worth an artist/illustrator's time to work for much less money than that. I certainly wouldn't if I could be getting more money for the same amount of work on a project that will have a wider distribution and print plus that equals publicity for me xx
