I don't know if this has been said already, but a lot of Japanese lolitas think typical caucasian westerners (blonde hair, blue eyes) look better than them. They think it is more doll-like, especially westerners w/curly hair. 3nodding

But western Europeans look pretty similar to Americans. I mean, they don't look different enough for a Japanese person to be able to tell just by looking at them, so how does that make a difference?

no, the japenese know the diffrence. they wait until the other loli's smile.

ohhh my god sorry i just had to make a bad teeth european joke; i was just watching that epsoide of the simpsons where lisa gets braces and they pull out the big bookof bad british teeth.

Was that rude, eh? xd
Besides, Japanese have quite bad teeth too, if you take a look at some j-musicians' videos around the Net rolleyes

Japan is not Lala-land, girls... people probably have a lotta prejudice against other races there, especially concerning foreign people wanting to do what they do. Just like many other countries. wink
I've read somewhere (I think it was in Livejournal, but I'm not sure... gonna look that up) that many Japanese lolita are picky about whether you're wearing expensive brand clothing, and many of them will treat foreigner Lolis badly... confused

But I, of course, believe race doesn't matter. I doesn't matter for being Loli, nor anything else. heart

I'd prolly be a little ticked that these white kids keep taking my style.

So shouldn't French people be ticked for the Japanese kids having taken their Victorian Style? wink

My european friend says that its only offensive depending on how the lolitas reply to the situation. In the end, its all about how everyone treats eachother ^^lll it goes beyond the outfit ^^lll

Also i would like to include that most of the models who dress loli if not most then many are actually not japanese.

So you can see whom the dresses are somewhat inteded for or the style is based of ^^lll

To begin with, lolita was based of a european culture that existed years ago *putting it lightly*

The dresses are not intended for any specific culture of people.

Lolita is something that all people can enjoy, granted as long as one is able to piece together their outfit appropriately and can have the manners that go with it. As for how the Japanese feel about other cultures doing Lolita, I am sure that, for the most part, they've no problem about it. I must say that, in my honest opinion, if there were a reason for Japanese to dislike others wearing it may be because of the mannerisms above all else. Take, for example, an incident in which I saw a "Lolita" completely make a fool of herself because she leapt over a table in order to hug a particular Visual Kei member. If he had not supported her with all his strength then she would have crashed on him.

Another incident involves Lolitas decked out in name brand clothing yet using such vulgar language and gestures. No class nor elegance whatsoever. I do know that not all of you lovely Lolitas do such things but it is little things like that which plant the seeds of stereotypes in the minds of people. As a matter of fact, this particular group had such a horrible time here because of the poor quality of "Lolitas" running amok that they've not returned since.

Who knows how many other places have Lolitas who are misinformed or who simply do not feel this in their hearts but rather express it as simple entertainment. One may feel that others see prerequisites of race before culture itself. If people do look down on other people for doing Lolita I strongly feel it is due to culture rather than race. I've met some wonderful Lolitas of different nationalities and skin tones and each of them brings a certain charm to the style. But when you act like a fool while adorned in lace, then it is cultural upbringing that is at fault there and not race.

it depends, if its japanese lolita and you look lovely theyll prob want to be penpals or go for tea and get to know you better. if you look rubbish theyll still be pretty polite about it. but cosplay and gothloli fashion i wierd to most japanese people, its like goths in the west. i asked my exchange students about goth loli fashion and cosplay, one didnt even know what they were >.< the other two, one respected loli and both hated cosplay.

Lolita fashion isn't that popular or well known in Japan.

The Japanese probably have a, "Oh, look, they're being like us! Hahaha!" opinion. I think they'd rather respect the ones from Europe, but look down slightly on the ones in America, and other areas of the world.

The Japanese ones are very polite to me, at least. ^_^;

Perhaps they do have that opinion. But from what I learned from my friend who went to Japan for a year, its more like they like they want to be like Americans XD the majority of the Japanese anyway. Lolita, Decora..all those Japanese fashions isn't all of Japan, just as Amanikitty said. Its probably known just as little as it is known in the US. Though I must say its gotten popular, along with anime..in the US I mean.

I think it depends on HOW you wear Lolita, for example; if I was Japanese I think I would be quite flattered if I saw a white person wearing Lolita correctly. I would show that they really loved the fashion and had researched how to wear it like a true Lolita.
Does that make sense? O_o

According to what everybody said, I'd have to agree on several of them.
I think that the Japanese Lolita would be delighted to find experienced Lolita's throughout other nations outside their country; however, it must depend on how the Lolita wears the dress and properly uses them. As Illusen mentioned, someone who adores the fashion and uses it the right way, they would receive a flattering comment from the Japanese. Yet with someone who miserably fails in areas of the vogue, I think they'd be looked down upon and give a reaction of, "Oh, well this one obviously has no clue of what they're doing and what Lolita is" type of remark; it can be polite or rude, depending on the Lolita.

I just hope we are not judged badly by the one who do not do it right. D: I do agree with Illusen, though! heart

Personally I think many Americans and Europeans wouldn't care about race but there is always that little group that can be strongly against certain groups participating in 'their' fashion... I also WANT to be optimistic when it comes to the Japanese.... but I think it would be the exact OPPOSITE of Europe and America's ideals towards race vs fashion... sweatdrop

As far as me.... I don't care who wears lolita as long as they are happy and are at least TRYING to look good in it.
