"Excellent" Moreau said as he received word that the team of scientists had just finished their development of the thylacine serum. The preparatory injection had been rushed from the sample Seth had provided, preparing the D.N.A. For it's further changes. The three weeks interem used to develop the full serum from the excellent sample that Seth had provided for them.

***

When you next sleep, unknown to you, you are taken into the labs and injected with your second stage serum. This ordeal is subconsciously marked by horrible dreams and high stress until it occurs. When it finally begins, it starts with your face. Your features seem to stretch and grow longer, your nose and your entire jaw grow longer. This has the effect of making your eyes look more prounounced, more bug-eyed as it were.

Your ears grow as well, growing larger, while staying round even as you think you can hear things a bit better than you could before. You look down at your feet, as you feel the toes stretch, growing long and flexible. Even as both your fingers and your toes slowly grow dark sharp nails.

A pain at the base of your spine flares as your tailbone unfuses and pushes outwards into a thick, fairly inflexible at this point fleshy tail.

However, throughout it all, you feel incredibly nauseous, your very build changing as well, your frame becoming more slender, and miraculously! - losing a little bit of the extra pudge.

Till finally it's done, and you realize, you've just taken your first step into becoming nonhuman.

Seth was not normally one to be bothered by such things as dreams or nightmares. He slept like a rock most nights and his random sleeping patterns usually meant that he did not dream that much anyway. But tonight had been... different. Maybe it was because of the second stage serum treatment injected into him while he slept, or maybe it was something else.

In any case, it is the middle of the night and pretty much everybody in the village is asleep now. All is and calm - except for one place within the mind of the man. This is not a pleasant experience for him at all. Within his subconcious, a storm is brewing. It is a strange dream at first - too vivid and lifelike to be mere imagery created by the mind during sleep. It seems more like a memory being relived.

It starts out simple enough...

-----

At first, the dream gives way to imagery that he is in forested area and moving low to the ground. An overwhelming desire to protect wells up within, and he canters onwards with a determined yet casual pace. This is his domain and his well worn set of tracks through the gully he resides in. Everything else that lives here bounds away at his prescence. Nobody would dare contend with him, though why that is the case, it is not certain.
But is not here to persue them today, no. Today he is not happy, he is aggitated - something foreign, large and very dangerous is in his domain. Fresh tracks are observed in the mud - massive and heavy. Something with a step as long as his skull has stepped through the path. And it's stride is almost as long as he is. Normally one to shy away from such things, a strange sense of curiousity has welled up within him. Rather than run, he sees the prescence of the newcomer as a threat to his territory and his livelihood.

There is a rustling noise up ahead as it moves and he tenses, attention glued forwards. The invader's smell is in the air now, coupled with something that smells acrid and burning. Then he hears very loud sound like a crack of lightning, but there is no rain, no clouds. The harsh sound thunders through his skull and he turns tail and runs for it.

The great galumphing creature is onto him, and he needs no motivation to run. He breaks into a sloppy hacked canter, for he is incapable of running in great strides. Another loud crack is heard and something scuffs the ground at lightning speed near his feet. Whatever it is, it's trying to get him.

He retreats further, his heart hammering in his ears. He heads north into a rocky area with highly unstable terrain, where dense scrub grows between the rocks and the trees form a canopy above, blocking out the majority of the sunlight. He feels safer as he treks into the uneven terrain, bounding atop large boulders and inbetween rocks - but not for long. His travel abruptly ends as he loses his footing on a loose stone, tumbling down off the rocks and crashing down onto the ground, landing down hard on his side. The hulking bipedal creature seizes opportunity and stands over him, seeming to be a hundred feet tall. He carries a long unnatural stick, the source of the acrid stench. Then he points the shiny black tube at his skull and fires.

No more is remembered.

-----

Seth awoke with a sudden start and sat upright. He sat there for a moment, burying his face in his hands, rubbing his eyes in an attempt to wake up properly.

"What the hell was that about? Stupid dreams..." He muttered to himself. A brief glance toward the window told him it was already well into the morning, as the sun shone brightly outside and it looked like yet another glaringly hot tropical day. This made the man feel rather discontent, for he was really beginning to hate the same weather every day, day in, day out.

"Well, you're stuck with it for the time being..."

He got to his feet, lazily stretching his arms over his head. He tilted his head to one side to crick his neck, seeming quite unhappy that his jaw felt stiff and sore. His back also felt sore, like it had been frozen in place for many hours.
"Must have slept on it..." He grumbled to himself as he stepped into his shower area to begin his standard morning cleansing ritual. The dream ws only given another brief thought as he dried himself off afterwards, and he dismissed it as mere silliness. He combed his hair back a bit with his fingers and got dressed into whatever appropriate clothes he could find, making a mental note to himself that it was probably a good idea to do his laundry soon. He was fast running out of clean clothes.

The annoying stiffness in his jaw still remained, and he rubbed at the sides of it in an attempt to alleviate the pain. He placed his hands on his lower back area and leaned back, trying to crick out the pain.
"God, what's wrong with me today?" He sighed. "I must be getting old or something." He paused, quickly shaking his head at that thought. "Heh, no way. I just need to start moving around more."

He sat back down on his bed, and picked up the pair of sunglasses he had placed on his nightstand the night previous. He twizzled them in his fingers as he tried to ponder what was wrong with him. Then he tossed them aside and lay down on his back once more, sighing, deciding to try and sleep it off once again.

"Damn air-conditioner...." He muttered. He would go get food later on in the day perhaps, but for now his highest priority was to try and figure out a way to stop it from hurting any more.

title - to be filled in later

------------------------

Seth was annoyed.

He idly clicked a pen as he sat on his bed, his mind a tangle of questions. There were things he wanted to know, what he was turning into for a start, his fate, the future, many things. He also had pent-up anger and part of him desired to strike out at something. He glared at the intercom/phone speaker device on the wall. Oh, how many times he could count now that he wanted to press that button and abuse the lab staff. Above all, he missed owning a working computer. His last one had been completely wrecked, thanks to him dropping it, and then stepping on it in the frenzy and panic of his first changes.
Scolding the staff wouldn't acheive anything, however. It wouldn't get him anywhere even if he had done so, so he had refrained from talking with any of the staff members until he had thought of a good reason to do it.

After some more moments of debating, he gave up and got to his feet, grabbing up the receiver and pressed the #0 button with a clawed index finger. He desired answers.

"I want to speak with Doctor Duvert, if at all possible." He told the people on the switchboard. He half expected to be lied to this time again, but what would really happen, he would have to see.

Seth cut off the already irritated woman on the switchboard with his request. "Mister Callaghan." A terse, nasal and feminine voice cut him off.

"I will see if he is available, but Doctor Duvert is a busy man."

She didn't give Seth chance to respond. There was a mechanical beep and then a pause.....

The pause stretched for ten, twenty... thirty seconds without any sort of notice of being on hold. Then, about a full minute later, the familiar, accented voice of Dr. Duvert himself picked up the line.

His voice sounded more terse than its normal, laid back and almost playful tone.

"Seth, it has been a while since we spoke, hasn't it. Not enjoying your layover?"

Seth scowled at the woman's voice, and had to cover the receiver with his free hand so she didn't hear him muttering under his breath about her. After the beep-tone however, he was silent.

For about five seconds only.

"Hello?" He said, tapping the receiver for a moment, wondering if the phone had gone dead, or if the woman had just hung up on him altogether. He looked up at the phone, wondering if it had disconnected. He didn't ponder this for much longer however, and scowled upon hearing Dr. Duvert's voice on the other end of the phone.

"Hah. Very funny, aren't you." He said, his tone thick wish sarcasm. "Look, we need to talk. Do you have the time, or are you ridiculously busy trying to find more suckers to con into coming here?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:25 pm

"Well, to be perfectly honest, finding poor sods to dupe into coming here isn't my job. I Have been quite occupied with work recently, not that I am sure you have any mind or concern about. But I am feeling charitable, Mr. Callaghan... what is it that has been troubling you?"

"Hmph. Call me 'Seth'. Mr. Callaghan is too formal. It's also what the tax department calls me, not that I really need to care about that right now..."

Seth sat back down on the bed, surprisingly more calm than he guessed he would have been in this situation.

"Basically, I want to know what the hell you intend to do with me now that you've got me here indefinitely. I've been here a good while now, I know about the nature of this island so you can't keep bullcrapping me there," He paused for a moment to clear his throat. "But in all honesty, why? What's the point of this place? And what the heck am I turning into?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:41 pm

"Well, there you go - one silver lining to your predicament, Seth. You shall never have to worry about taxes again."

"And you haven't figured out your future yet? That is a pity, people seem to be quite dense as of late as far as their destinies recently. You, Marshall, Gaius.... you'd think, especially considering the fates that I pick for you fellows, that you would eb a bit keener on figuring it out. You, my friend, walked through the door with your fate."

Seth was silent for several seconds.

"What?"

His mind reeled as he thought hard about what Sabin had just said. It took him another few moments to return to reality. "You mean I'm turning into that extinct Tasmanian tiger thing? You set me up to come all this way just so you could slap me into a fancy room and turn me into a Tasmanian Tiger?" He paused. "Does my friend know? What about my parents? What's going to happen to me now?"

"And why? Why are you doing this to people? What's the point of it!?" Seth was getting aggitated and he knew it. But he was desperate and wanted answers.
