"Ichi no ito is the finest, Ni no ito is in the middle and San no ito is the thickest. So you're right to some degree." She nodded Kaida, "You had the first and last string mixed up. No matter. As long as you remember that it is Ichi no ito on the left, you'll be fine. Moving on girls, I want you to listen and watch as I tune my shamisen." She picked up her shamisen and carefully started to pluck and strum each string, until they blended in together in the style that Ariku and Tanpopo and requested.

Kaida quickly pulled out her note book and quickly sketched out a drawing of the shamisen and titled the strings with their correct name and then listened to Iyasu as she played her shamisen. It was easy for Kaida to tell that the sensai knew what she was doing with out needing to think.
She took mental notes of the ways that the shamisen was now being tuned. She discribed the sounds in her head and then wrote down what she heard as of the frist cord so she could rember when she would tune hers.

Popo played along with Arikku beautifully. It was nearly perfect. Popo was always a fast learner and this song had come, as had many others, very naturally to Popo. She was excited that she had done so well. She hoped that she pleased her onee-san.

Kioku blushed as she timidly held the shamisen. It had been years since she had even touched one, and she hoped that she could still play. "I-is there any certain song you want to me to play?" She asked quietly, almost inaudible. Again, she blushed.

"Not all dear! We're taking it. Do you remember how I tuned my shamisen and how it sounded? I want you tune it first before we start." She smiled kindly to the nervous Kioku.

"All right, girls! Since we are all on the same level now, let me teach you the next part." She smiled as she took her seat at the front of the class room once more, taking her shamisen into her lap and playing where she had left the girls off.

Kaid watched mezmoerized as she paied close attetion too what Iyasu-sensai was playing. The music hummed lound and sweet. She couldn't help, but to want to play along.
She crossed all her fingers together so she would be forced to hold back and wait for the sensai to say that it was alright for her to play along with everyone.

"All right, are you girls ready? Do your best to stay in sync and in the proper keys. After this we have one more section to learn." She smiled as she put her shamisen on its stand and began to keep time for them by patting on her thigh. "Ich . . . ni . . . san . . . yon . . . and start!" She said quietly, but loud enough for the whole class to hear.

Kaida started and was consintraiting on the sounds around her. She was hopeing that the music was comeing out right and on the same time with the others. These girls all seemed like they were in another world as they played.

Kioku took in a deep breath and let herself remember how she used to play, and let the music carry her away. Oblivious to everyone else in the room, Kioku decided to let her warmup go away and actually start playing. She used all of her previous knowlege of the songs she used to know, and combined them to create the lullaby that her mother used to sing to her. And the song that she used to play for her beloved Akira.

Iyasu continued to pat with her left hand as she spotted Yuri in the back. She waved the maiko forward and smiled. She patted the seat next to her and nodded to her approvingly.
"Great job girls! Keep it up, you're almost done."

Kioku smiled slightly when she reached a certain part of the song, sighing quietly and happily. Akira used to like this....I wonder if he still looks for me? She sighed again. No..Its hopeless.. She began to play more vigorously, more beautifully.
