We don't have assigned seats for Pep band, cuz mr. bd is too lazy to organize all 3 groups together. he just makes us woodwinds sit in the top rows, and the trumpets up front. other than that, he doesn't care.
In normal band however, we have seats. I'm SO pissed off that my bf beat me for my first chair spot. *sulks* I will laff if I move up to Symph and she doesn't.

My band doesn't even have set chairs? I mean, we could pick out first, second, third, etc. for the whole class, but it isn't really acknowledged. We have set seats that we picked in our section, but I'm first clarinet andI sit near the middle.

In my school, you need to audition to be in band. If you suck you get Concert band. If you have potential or youre okay, you get Symphonic Band If you good and better youre in teh Wind Ensemble.
And in each of those classes you have to audition for your chair. I'm in Symphonic band, and there's only 10 clarinets allowed in the band, and I had to audition for what chair i sat in. I got fourth =. Oh well. And its gets to competitive that when people think they deserve a better chair they can challenge you on level 6 hard music. Whoever plays it best takes your chair.
My school is very competitive with music. I love it though heart

There's not really enough space in the room we practice in when we're indoors for marching band, so it's kinda "where every you can find a space to stand"...I've ended up smashed into the saxaphone section, sitting with the mellophones, and even one time behind the tubas (no idea how that even happened). During concert band it's just kinda "sit with your section...basically in some order but we don't really care." Last year I was playing third and had firsts and seconds sitting together on the wrong side of me...

We don't have a seating plan, but for some reason, in my section, all the first flutes have grouped together and all the seconds have grouped together. Wonder why.

we have an order and mostly we follow it but the tuba player wants to sit by me all the time so the other trombone and baritone has to move over. But every other section sits where they are supposed to

We didn't have assigned seats either. It was pretty much tradition that the flutes sat on the first two rows of the one side, the clarinets on the other half of the first two rows, then the next row was all saxs. Behind them were the trombones, baritones, and trumpets. Behind them was the percussion. The tuba guy kind of just sat off to the side near the back.
We didn't even have auditions for chairs either. Our BD just kind of handed out parts at random.

we don't because like 8 years ago some girl didn't get first chair, and tried taking the band director to court
so we have just never bothered with trying it again
it's fine by me... i'm my own section hahaha

every once in a while we do reverse seating(we switch rows and stuff) but the only time we could sit where ever we wanted was in elementary school. and even then we had some organization.

I was the only bassist in my orchestra so my teacher didn't really care where I was as long as I was playing lol But I usually just stood next to the cello cuz we were playing similar lines. Makes sense. ^^;;
