xXxSilentDreamerxXx Epidemic of Insanity Is your mom part of a radical church group? Perhaps all your friends moms and your mom have conspired to end video-gaming for all! Those crazy church groups... My aunt's group told her that manga was "kiddie porn" Guard the DS and PSP with your life.... lol I think the reason some people think it's anime and manga is bad is becuase they dont know everything about it. Not being rude just saying. Anime and manga are just another type of cartoon, and not all of its bad. Yes, most of it's based on Japanese religion, but it depends on what kind it is. It's okay! Their are porn and stuff like that of Manga/anime, but there is also ones that are good, and dont have that stuff, just like real life movies and shows, they are rated, some bad some good, same with that. And the church groups who say it bad and they should end video gaming, It's cuase they think it takes away you r time from other important stuff and it's all about violence and crap, BUT it's not! It's okay as long as you make sure you dont put off you chores and stuff. And again, not all of it is violence and crap, alot of it is good actually and fun to! ^_^ heart Not all chuches are like that though ^_^ I actualy wrote an essay in my english class on how Vidio games aren't played for violence. My english teacher actualy had to think on why the press thaught they were concidered bad after he read it. One of my main points on it was that in the most lasting vidio games :: coughkingdomhearts,Finalfantacy* insertnumberhere* cough:: thats why when you hit bad guys it makes a *ping* sound and stars come out of them when they die.

Im lucky I never had my parents try to take away my video games at least not that I can remember. In fact I wanted to go to college to learn how to design them and so I am almost done with my first two years of that and my first degree and my parents couldnt be happier.
Something I think that parents need to think about is there are positive effects to kids and teenagers playing video games. If your playing a video game (not in all cases but most) your less likely to be out doing drugs, ect..ect eveyrthing else that kids/teens can be doing to get into trouble. This was how my parents viewed things.

Spend all your time that you can't play video games on the computer with your music turned up full volume. Eventually your parents will get fed up and give them back. It works for me anyway. My parents give me what they call a "screen ban". If I do something really bad I can't watch tv, go on the computer or basically do anything that has a screen. So I sit in my room with music they hate on full volume and read for however long they take them away for.
Or you could go round a friend's house and play their games.

kurisutaru_annu That's not right. Many girls play video games. No one is too old for video games.

ChibiShannon LunaW0lf She took away all my systems, and I have basically ALL of them except a DS and PSP. *dies* My games crying Say to your mom, "You're right. It's time to grow up." Go out and buy some bling bling girly crap sweatdrop , random makeup, and a big purse. Throw out the bling bling and makeup when Mom isn't looking. Get a DS, a pile of games, and keep them in your purse. wink What she doesn't know about she can't steal. heart Also, point her at the websites of professional gamer women. "Mom, it's not a boy thing. That's sexist. I fight against sexism." Then point out to her that a passion in gaming can lead to a degree in Computer Engineering or Game Design, a field that still has a glass ceiling for women that you would like to bust through. Talk about how Game Designers have to be writers, artists, producers, directors, programmers, and managers. Get gushy about the idea of going to college to get a degree in design. Be excited about the idea of learning how to program complex algorythms or tackling the demands of teamwork and management. If she thinks that gaming will lead to something "productive" she might not be so quick to take your games away. Parents usually want their kids to turn out to be something great; so tell them you will be a top-tier female executive by the time you're done. Remind her that The Sims was designed by a woman. Show her the graphs on this page: http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20040211/olsen_01.shtmlExplain to her you could end up making $100 grand a year in a creative role if you're ambitious enough. In an executive role, you could be making $200 grand. And just to hammer the last nail in the coffin twisted tell her that your "big dream" is to make "educational games that will encourage kids to learn science and history through games." (You know, a mod of Quake where teachers try to shoot you if you get a math problem wrong, only you're faster and blow their head off first.) That'll hit most parental "sucker" buttons. ninja that may work and u can also show her this entire guild, theres hudreds of girls in this guild who play video games, you can even show her the gamer granny video, forgot the link to it tho and marching into their room to get it back doesnt always work my parents ******** hide it somewhere where i never find it and i have to wait it out until i can "behave" bleh...parents

If you've been playing since you were a kid, you never grow out of them. In fact, I grew up on nintendo. And what's she mean by "besides your a girl"? This is just wrong... ninja

xd Man if my parents had done that then there would have been hell on earth! My tantrums were legendary. My dad thinks I'm too old for videogames but I always prove that adults play video games too. However now I'm older so they can't take videogames away from me.

My mother always took away my toy cars and action figures because "girl's don't play with these, honey!" She'd always replace them with barbies and such. And then, one day, she took those away too and told me that I was too old.
I know she had good intentions. I know that I was the only person my age in my town who still played with toys (I was 10-11). I know that my teacher had talked to her because a lot of the other girls were making fun of me.
But that doesn't excuse it, imo.
Gender stereotypes are just that - stereotypes. Why should we be forced to conform to them?
If she had taken away your games because you weren't doing well in school or something, then she'd have my full support. It's the parents' job to regulate the household and minimize distractions that interfere with what's best for you. But if her reasons were to force you to conform to social norms, that's just ridiculous.

Its like one of those stories where the proper parents tell their tomboy daughter to grow up. Never! My parents take mine all the time, but they hide them in the same spot EVERY SINGLE TIME! When they go out, I just pull them out and veg for a while. They never take my DS. Its like that doesn't even occur to them. They ussually forget they took them any ways and everything goes back to to normal. They don't take them because they think I'm too old, its ussually punishment for my brothers. That's how it is in my house, if one of us do something wrong, all of us are in trouble. sad But grow out of video games? How do you do that? Thats like saying every person in the industry are immature and not adults. Video games can become an awesome career in so many ways because it takes to many diffferent elements to do games. Like writers, artists, programers, producers, whatever.

not allowing you to have your games isn't fair. i could even play the devils advocate and say that maybe she could limit your time on them if its affecting your life in an adverse way. but to completely take them away on the grounds that you are too old, and a girl just makes me want to cry. crying
