okay I'm new to this posting stuff so I'm just gonna reccomend some books and I'll tell the genres but if you want a better description just mail me.

The Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale is a good read, it ends up being kind of slow at times but the plot is really great and you'll never expect some of the things that happen in the series. This series consists of ten books (as far as I know of and I've read them all) and is set in modern day Earth but the main characters travel through space and time to where they're supposed to be; I know that that sounds cryptic but you'll find out what I'm talking about later in the books. These are fiction books and are funny in parts, I would say that they are young adult targeted but they are a good read for just about any body who enjoys fantasy and action.

Well if you are looking for a good book just ask me and I'll see what I can do. No guarantees though because I'm really only into fiction but sometmes I read out of that. ninja

I am looking for an end-of-the-world type of book. You know something like I am Legend or the Avatars series.

Something where the main character is all alone and has to face against many dangers. I'm okay if it's a group of people as well.

Any suggestions? wink ?

Kiena the wolf
do any of you know a good vampire romance,i've already read twilight, new moon, and eclipse and I really can't wait for breaking dawn but right now I can't find any more good ones

Try Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, by Beth Fantaskey. It's a YA book.
Synopsis:
The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .
Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

Also, the book Evernight, by Claudia Gray is pretty much another Twilight, except that the plot is a little different.
Synopsis:
Bianca wants to escape.
She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.
Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.
"I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would."
But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

Hope that helps. smile

I am also in need of a good book that revolts around technology, preferably young geniuses..
I hope to find something that's Like the Artemis Fowl series, or H.I.V.E.

Then I would recommend: Evil Genius, by Catherine Jenks
Synopsis (from Publishers Weekly):
With a series of breakneck twists and turns, Jinks's (the Pagan Chronicles) latest novel follows Cadel Piggott, a seven-year-old Australian boy with an incredible mind and a proclivity toward mischief: "He loved systems: phone systems, electrical systems, car engines, complicated traffic intersections." Following a string of disasters, which Cadel engineers (e.g., hacking into the city's power grid), his desperate adoptive parents take him to a psychologist, Dr. Thaddeus Roth. But instead of refocusing Cadel on more positive activities, Dr. Roth encourages the boy to develop increasingly destructive plans, such as orchestrating massive traffic jams and manipulating his classmates' emotions so that they turn on one another. Dr. Roth also stuns Cadel by revealing that he is employed by Cadel's birth father, Dr. Phineas Darkkon, a criminal mastermind serving a life sentence. From prison, Dr. Darkkon established the Axis Institute for the world's genetically talented and criminally inclined. Drs. Roth and Darkkon convince Cadel to join its small freshman class, and Cadel slowly uncovers a conspiracy of lies and betrayals that leave no aspect of his life untouched. Jinks has created an intricate, well-constructed and layered reality in this hefty novel, and as the complex deceptions that have shaped Cadel's life come to light, his emotional unraveling and awakening will likely engross readers.

Hope that helps. smile

Well, I came to ask for suggestions on a book to read (as though I don't have a long enough waiting list), but then I got to thinking about all the similar, scattered threads. So I decided to just make it a sticky. 3nodding

If you're looking for a kind of book, post a summery of what you're looking for.

If you're responding to someone's request, give a summery (without spoilers, please!) of the book.

I am looking for a good mystery book. A really good one. I've read several Nancy Drews, as well as all of Sherlock Holmes, so I'm not looking for those titles. Any suggestions?
NO.
eek
LOL.

Got any good sophisticated fantasy reads, anyone? Reading The Lord of the Rings and Brisingr, read Eragon and Eldest. I can't think of what that leaves, so here I am...

Read Eragon? The Lord of the Rings?
Eragon is great if you're one who believes everything is original in its own way, and the first The Lord of the Rings was written in 1954. I say so, because it HAS to be good. It's still popular.

Okay, I'm looking for a specific genre of book:

Genre:
Romance
Action/Adventure

ROMANCE:
------------
I'm looking for a romance novel that's both mystical and down-to-earth. I am not looking for any vampire romance, sorry. I would perfer a high school setting also. Something between "Beastly" and "Kissed by an Angel"

ACTION/ADVENTURE:
-------------------------
I'm looking for a book that is action packed, but with a little romance in it. I would LOOOOOVE a book w/ action scenes from a movie like Transformers, things blowing up, people dying. Maybe with a duo of a boy and girl who act like they don't like each other, but then do. No vampire books, sorry...

If you're going by popular fantasy, read the Artemis Fowl series, Eoin Colfer.

Also there's Obernewton, if you like the opressed-minority-hides-in-obscurity-but-is-still-pursued thing.

How about a good book with science fiction, adventure and romance all put together? I'm a fantasy fiction fanatic myself but I still absolutely adore this book. You may check it out if you're interested.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Summary:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and her younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before--- and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

As horrific as it may appear to sound I assure you it isn't like that at all.

If not, how about try the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan.
Book 1 The Lightning Thief summary:

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse-Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends -- one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena -- Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

The romance tends to kick in during the later books.

-breathes life into the sticky-

I'm looking for a book of Japanese fairy tales. But, I'm trying to find one that's not too... how to put it? Westernized. I would really like to read good translations of tales, to have stories that stay as true to the original as possible.

Anyone know of a good book?
