Ra nodded as she spoke. Just what he had feared. Still, the story was not all bad, they forgave him.
"I worry the same thing will happen to me." He said patting the side flat so that he could draw some arches. "If I tell my parents that I don't believe. I think my mother would talk to me. My father would be angry though." He sighed. "It's not that I don't respect their religion I do. I have an emense respect for the beliefs and traditions of my people, no matter how much they are misunderstood." He paused and looked up at her. "I just don't believe there is a god. I can't pray to something I don't believe exists."

Kneeling up again he moved to the other side to continue his patterns.
"My family mean a lot to me. I wonder if the truth is worth hurting them for."

Israel had paused in what she was doing as he spoke and watched him for a while, even after he continued to work. That was really a hard decision he was thinking of making. She dropped her green eyes back down the sand mosque and continued to work on it.

"May I ask why it is you do not believe?" she asked. People weren't taught to believe something their whole lives and then wake up one morning and completely disregard everything they've ever known. She wondered what had driven Ra to that conclusion.

Ra shrugged and looked up at her.
"I don't think I ever have done. Or if I did I wondered why he didn't do his job. Allah, loves us and we pray to him for his love and protection. Yet horrible things happen to people all the time." He sat cross legged and looked up at her. "So called 'acts of god' kill thousands of people every year. How can I believe in something so cruel and malicious." He swallowed and idley drew patterns on the side of the building. "To me, science is much more comforting."

"Hmm..." Is hummed softly, a small frown of concentration on her brow. She sat back from the sculpture and looked up at Ra. She really wasn't sure if she was the right person he should be talking to about this, but it was a rather interesting conversation for her.

"Well... if everything was perfect all the time and you never once had to suffer or work for anything in your entire life, how would you be able to appreciate the good things? They would flit by completely unnoticed and unappreciated. Love or friendship wouldn't have to be worked at," she said drawing idle patterns in the sand next to her. She looked back up at him with a small smile.

"Think about it.... if you had not been bullied would the kind words and love that Chii shows you mean as much to you?" she asked.

"I don't want everything perfect." He said leaning forward on his elbows. "I just don't understand how I can be expected to love something that killed members of my family and almost killed me."

He sighed heavily and picked up a shell from the sand, placing it in the centre of one of the arches. "I'm not talking about what people do to each other or themselves. But things we have no control over, things people believe are punishements. Earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, tsunami. In a scientific capacity it makes sense. Random acts, that we cannot control. But to think that God does these things to punish us. That makes me unwilling to believe."

Is looked away at the mention of death and picked up a handful of sand to let it slide through her fingers. She looked back up at him with a small smile.

"I understand what you mean Ra. But... even events you can't control can teach you something. I... know it's not fair to learn life lessons at the expense of life. But... who are you to judge if it was just or unjust... or even punishment for that matter?" she asked softly, quite certain that her comments weren't really making any difference. Ra had much more experience with things like this, she quickly realized.

"I'm just saying why I don't believe." He said hugging his knees to his chest. "Not that I'm right, or that everyone should feel this way. Just personally that is how I feel and why."

He shook his head and rested it on his knees for a moment. His parents would never understand the way he felt. They always said his surviving was a miricle. That was how they clung to what happened. That God saved him. Bollocks in his opinion. It was not god but the rescuers and doctors that he owed his life to. Not a destructive entity who had tried to finish him off him the first place.

After a few moments he looked up and smiled.
"I'm going to go and find some shells and things to put around it." He said standing up. "I'll be back in a bit."

"Well... I guess personally I agree with you. But I guess I just have a more positive view on why things happen," she smiled then pulled herself up to her knees. She looked up as he stood and gave him a bright smile.

"That's a great idea," she smiled as she bent over it and began placing intricate designs on the walls and arches.

Ra walked down to the edge of the sea and started to pick up shells and seaweed. Why couldn't he keep his mouth shut. This was exactly the reason he didn't like talking about things. It dragged people into his twisted world.
Blinking a couple of tears away he wiped his cheeks with his shirt sleeves and turned to walk back up the beach.

"Here." He grinned dropping the pile of small shells on the sand next to Israel. "I'm not sure where we can put them. Maybe on the roof?"

Is looked at the pile of shells and started sifting through them.

"You found some really nice ones," she smiled and picked up a few small white ones. "Let's use these on the roof," she said looking up at him. She studied his face for a moment, then looked back down at the pile. "We can put the others around on the walls and towers. Just be very very careful," she said, reaching out to carefully begin making a pattern on the main dome.

Ra smiled and took some of the shells to place around the walls. One of the children who had been building the sandcastle that inspired them toddled over. He stared at the Mosque with his dark eyes, crouched down, looked from Ra to Is and babbled something in Japanese. Grinning the kid toddled back off over to his elder sister and their castle.

Ra smirked up at Is.
"Well, I think we got the local seal of approval." He said standing to admire their handywork.

Is looked up as the little boy came over to inspect and gave him a brilliant smile as she pushed some of her hair out of her eyes again. She glanced over at Ra as he spoke to see if he understood him, then back at the little guy as he walked away. She watched the two children for a moment, then looked back over at Ra as he stood.

"I think you might be right," she grinned reaching into her bag and producing a digital camera. She rose to her feet and looked over at him expectantly. "Well?" she said, gesturing for him to get beside the sculpture so she could take a picture.

Ra's eyes widened with suprise as she produced the camera. Blushing a bit he shook his head and allowed his hair to fall back over his eyes.
"I don't like having my picture taken." He said as he knelt down next to the castle anyway. "I always look crappy."

Smiling, Is bent down and brushed his hair to the side a little so that it still covered his eye, but not the majority of his face.

"But you've never had your picture taken by me," she winked and straightened as she pulled the camera up to her eye. She took a step back, then pulled the camera away and put her hand on her hip. "Smile Rashne Kusani or I'm going to be very upset with you," she grinned and pulled the camera back up to her eye. She focused the camera and took the picture, then knelt down to take some close up pictures of the details they had been so careful to place.

"For your first time, this is really beautiful," she smiled up at Ra before taking another picture.

Ra blinked as she moved his hair out of the way and tried to think of something to make himself smile. He didn't really need to at Israel's antics were enough to make him laugh.

One she had taken the picture he stood and watched her move around the sand castle.
"Well it is definitely unique." He smirked watching her. "Now I suppose we leave it to brave the elements and to to get some icecream?"
