Kiki's laughter faded into a sheepish smile. She half-hid behind Soco, looking up at the violet-haired man from her side of the piano bench. In an unconcious echo of Theif, she combed her bangs down over her eyes with her fingers. "Sorry..." she mumbled, still smiling. Her eyes darted from the man, Adrian, to Soco, and back again.

"Ah, it's no problem; don't worry about it too much," Adrian said quickly when he noticed Kilayla's shyness. He recognized that she was behaving in much the way Malachite or the new boy, Than, did, whenever they were feeling shy.
"I actually had a question for you, Miss Kilayla," the man continued, leaning down to get more on her level. "Would you like to play something for a small group of people? It doesn't have to be anything extrav-- err... really long and complicated. Just a little something?"
Soco sat quietly as Adrian addressed Kiki, who was still half-behind him. He gave his guardian a spectulative look. The man was acting a little nervous, speaking quicker than usual. Maybe it was general stress, and maybe it was because he didn't want to offend their young guest.
Whatever it was, after this weekend was over, Soco was going to see that it was stopped. Afterall, Adrian still hadn't taken those few days off like he'd recommended...

Kiki peeked at the older Karlet through her bangs. She'd just been called 'Miss Kilayla.' It was kind of funny. But to his question. As she answered, but quietly. "I--," she flushed. "I want to, but I don't know any good music."
It hurt her pride to admit that she didn't have the qualifications to do something she so wanted to do, but at her age, she wasn't what one would call a 'deciever.'
"Everybody would laugh at me..."

"Tch, I highly doubt anyone would laugh at you," Adrian said. "And if they did, I'd bop 'em one!"
Soco chuckled. "I think I know where he's going with this," he said to Kiki. "You could play just a few bars of that song you did earlier, and people would be happy. And it's best to take as many chances and opportunities as come your way. Someone once said to me, 'The only things in life I regret are the things I didn't do.' You can say no, if you really feel that way, but I think this would be a good little step in the right direction for you."

Kiki grinned, feeling much less shy... or was that wary? Adrian seemed really nice. She giggled at what he said.
Then Soco began to speak, and she listened. In reply she blinked thoughtfully at the floor as she pressed one finger to her chin. She said, "Oh...okay." She turned on the piano seat so that she could see Mister Adrian {which is how Theif had told her to address him} better. "I won't say no. I'd like to play for people." She smiled brightly, though it didn't reach her eyes, because she was already thinking of the moment when she'd be sitting before that 'small group of people.'

Adrian smiled again. "Okay. That's all I wanted to know. You can still say no when the time comes, if you're not ready."
"There isn't much time," Soco added, "so you might as well get in as much practice as you can."

"Oh!" Kiki cried. She quickly pulled her legs back up, and turned in her seat, so that she was facing the piano again. She stared in concentration at the keys, then began to pluck the tune out again. The tune came out waveringly, and at the wrong tempo, but minutes later, she had it. "I don't think I can do the part wit the drums on the piano, " she told Soco, seriously.

The two young men watched and listened as she went to work, neither noticing any of the mistakes she recognized.
"No, you probably won't be able to," Soco replied. "Are they really, really important, or will just the piano do?"
Adrian plopped down into the nearby chair and curled up in it, silent for the moment.

Her face was obscured by her long, brown curls as she stared intently at what she was doing. She played it again, trying to get it perfect. Her eyes were only for the piano in this moment. Kilayla never looked up as she said, "The drums won't be good unless somebody sings..."

"Maybe it's best to just do the piano then?" Soco suggested, again. He watched her play the piece over and over again, and he found that it was going to become stuck in his head, as songs usually had the tendency to do.
When he turned to glance at Adrian, he noticed that the guardian had fallen asleep.

"Who do you want me to play for?" Kiki asked, finally looking up, to Adrian. A dimple appeared between her eyebrows, but she smiled. He was asleep. Kilayla looked over to Soco with a grin on her face.

Soco smiled and leaned close, speaking quietly. "Malachite's birthday is soon," he explained. "I think Adrian thought it would be nice if you could play something at the party for him."
Adrian stirred in his sleep, but didn't awaken.

"Malachite?" Kiki asked. She bowed her head again, studying her fingers. "Is he..." she looked up, squinting her eyes. "You think he'd like it if I played for his party?"

"Definately." Soco's smile turned into a grin. "He loves music. He doesn't play any instruments, but he sings. I don't think he knows your song, otherwise he'd probably try and sing while you play."
He went silent for a moment, musing. "Yes, he would like it very much if you played for him."

Kilayla smiled brightly. "Okay, then. If Theif let's me." And his name was no sooner off her lips as she saw him moving gracefully and quietly past the door of the library. His back was bent and his ears were pressed back to his head. He looked like he was trying to be invincible. Kiki pressed her fingers to her lips to suppress the giggles, and pointed.
Theif hadn't seen her.
