Ah... and now he was feeling... far less comfortable. Because not only had he been backed into a corner, Eclipse was turning out to be... he couldn't quite find the word, his mind had... deteriorated in the past hour, from exhaustion and the change in his blood. Oh sure, it wouldn't kill him - but it wasn't comfortable.
It was Gideon's instinct to run, but his conviction to make a-right. This latter, which his student had so artfully declined to develop, tended to get him in trouble - and something in the back of his slowly shutting-down mind warned in that deep, foreboding tone, that trouble was just about the bend. Again. "I'm sorry to hear that..." he said slowly at the end of her explanation, following just as slowly as his speech - but following, nontheless. With his cane he felt somewhat more secure, not only physically but mentally.

The maid smiled at the other softly "it's alright, I am used to this by now as are the others who work around here" she said as they neared the stairs once more. "I guess all we can do is just hope he could change his ways though something tells me that since he had been alive since the year 1313 and has been like this ever since I dont think we will get him to change any time soon." She said to the rat as she sighed, wishing the fox would do something, anything, that wouldnt resolve in people getting hurt or losing blood but even she knew that would be a distant hope that would never be fulfilled.

To someone else it might have been frustrating, the maid's reticence to accept responsibility for her inaction, but to Gideon, who was so culpable of inaction in the face of wrong-doing as to be mortified (had he the awareness to admit it) her resigned and wistful longing for 'something better' was simply depressing. No, he didn't understand Eclipse - the fox was right about that. He was beginning to fear, however, that what there was to understand could be nothing but unpleasant.
"If you let a wound fester for too long, it becomes a scar," he cautioned slowly, aware on some level that the warning was useless in face of years--centuries?--of precedent. Oh stars, what had he walked into?

The maid didnt like sitting back and letting the fox go but as she knew from the past there was nothing she could do, noone could, the last person who tried to stop him was killed. It was just in everyones best intrests to let him go dispite how much you wished to stop him "that may be true but in the masters case it isnt. If you try and stop him said 'wound' will not only scar but it will become a life threatning scar as well" she said to the other as she sighed a little and carried on up the stairs.

"Would I be the first to suggest amputation?" Gideon asked darkly, in no mood to mince the words with polite tone. No matter from what angle he looked... it was a mess. A frightening, bloody mess. Why hadn't he just left? Because that wasn't right. Dying isn't right either, stupid, his mind snapped. Grow up.

The maid nodded "yes you are the first to suggest amputation but not the first to sugest some form of bodily harm to him. The master has had many threats in his time and been stabbed, sliced, diced, strangled and god knows what else and he still keeps on living. As you have probably heard he can only die two ways and so nothing will kill him other then those two ways and whatever harm befalls him he basically can heal himself in a matter of seconds. This isnt your normal run of the mill vampire we are dealing with, this guy is something else all together" she said as she reached the landing and waited for the other.

Gideon blinked several times, "I was being poetical, metaphorical," he said weakly. Besides, it wasn't in his nature to commit bodily harm against someone else. For one, he wasn't really built for it. For two, it sort of made other people pissed - even more pissed than they were before you tried anything. For third, it didn't really accomplish anything for the most part, not when the majority of the folks you dealt with had some sort of ability to keep them away from injury. Like healing spells, or protective charms - or, as in Eclipse's apparent case, invulnerability.

The maid wasnt exactly the brightest of the staff here at the mannor so she blushed a bit with the other explained to her what he meant "oh" she said as he walked over to the bedroom. She stood outside the room, it being the one the rat would be staying in "I guess some parts of the english language I still have to learn." She said, trying to cover up her mistake yet probably knew it was a lame atempt so she didnt bother saying anything else and carried on waiting.

"No," Gideon said honestly, a little contrite, "I wouldn't expect you to think I wasn't being literal, seeing what tends to happen in this place."
Pausing in front of the room, he looked over the door in silence first, before opening it slowly and poking his head in, curious as to his new surroundings and intent on... well, at least getting his bearings.

The maid smiled at the rat and let him get a good look at the room he was staying in before saying anything else. The maid hoped the room would be fine for the other as the room was, like the rest of the house, looked like it was pulled stright out of a haunted mansion dispite the lack of decoration. It had a queen sized four post, an old fasioned dressing table with a mirror and a water pitcher and bowl on it, there was a fire going in the fire place to keep the room warm.
Other then that there was an old painting of one of the old owners on the wall, she, from what the maid had read about, was the second wife to the original owner. The room was rather spacious with an old tapestry on the wall and a wardrobe one the other side of the room with a bed side table by the bed with a glass of water and a lamp.
"I hope the room is alright with you sir" she said to the rat "please, let me know if it isnt and I can easily go make you up another at no bother at all" she said as she smiled at the other.

Mmm... big bed. Eek. But that was okay, not like he was planning on getting lost in it. Tapestry... interesting. And painting - good. Not quite as good as the mirror and the water, but it would help. "No, thank you, it's perfect," Gideon insisted, moving towards the bed and setting his bag down atop it, gaze trailing over towards the fire now. Thank the stars for that warmth... Hopefully it wouldn't go out, if he actually managed to contact any ghosts.
...He'd have to try the readings before that. Less danger of losing flame when all you're doing is asking questions of the stones.

The maid smiled at the other a little "Is there anything else you would like me to get you before I go?" She asked the other politely. "Or is there anything you would like me to tell the master? I will be going down to see him now so I thought I should ask" she said as she stood there at the door and awaited the rats answer.

"Nope nope," an emphatic shake of the head as he moved over to the bed, making the motions of settling down and getting his bearings all over again. "Shoo," he added, cheerful smile plastered across his face. He could only get around to calling on the ghosts of this place once she was - well, out of sight at least. He didn't really trust Eclipse not to have someone listening at the door or something. Oh well. He could be quiet - quiet as a... er... mouse! <3

The maid smiled and nodded "of course, please excuse me" she said as she left the room and shut the door behind her, sighing a little she started back downstairs to see the master.
Eclipse was still busy reading over his bills as he decided to get up and walk over to the fireplace and crouched down and patted Priscilla "what am I meant to do? I should tell him but I dont want to either. Maybe I should just risk it. Perhaps tell him what he wishes to know and not go any further as he already knows I can only die two ways but does he NEED to know how?" He shook his head and sighed, wondering what to do.
Priscilla looked up at her master and nuzzled gently agiesnt his hand, listening to him like she had always done all these years and didnt mind one little bit.
The maid came upon the library and knocked on the door and waited.
Eclipse stayed where he was, patting Priscilla "come in" he called as he didnt move an inch.
The maid entered and shut the door behind her "sir I would like to talk about what happened to night if you dont mind" she asked carfully, not wishing to upset him.
Eclipse nodded "of course, please carry on if you wish" he said as he sighed a little.
The maid carried on telling the fox that he should perhaps tell the rat what he wished to know and how it would be better if he did so and everything. Not knowing how the master would react afterwards but it was a chance she was willing to take. She didnt wish the rat any harm and to know what he had gotten himself into as it was only fair....

((All righty - to make sure I don't overstep boundaries of power or nothing, I'll let you know Gideon's basic abilities and you can decide what he manages to do, if anything. It's not uncommon for anything magickal Gideon does to fail to work entirely. :3
Anyhoodle, Gideon has a great deal of magickal and ritual knowledge, but absolutely no ability to actually perform any of it. He does have some talent for seeing/reading portents, but that's such a tricky and unpredictable practice that he succeeds and fails just about as often as any other psychic, so it's debatable whether he has any actual power there. I like to think he does have at least a little XD; ))
The moment he was certain the maid wasn't fluttering back, Gideon shed his shoes, coat and hat and set to work.
First, the ambiance. From his bag he extracted a small, mostly melted away candle - approximately two hours left. That'd be enough, he hoped, lighting it and placing the small flickering thing in what he judged to be the approximate center of the room. Right next to the bed... awkward, but manageable.
Second, the material. The rat then drew out an old, frayed deck of tarot cards followed by an equally old pouch full of runes. The secrets unfolded, or such was the aim. He set both down on the ground near to the candle before, after a moment, sitting carefully himself, cross-legged and head bowed in a moment of prayerful concentration.
Third, the ritual. The cards first - they were his preferred, his favorite, and far more attuned to his senses. "Ghosts and whispers," he murmured, shuffling the deck with practiced ease and grace, "Guide my eyes." What secrets do this house and its master hold? - mustn't ever ask aloud, it was like betraying the secret before it was even revealed to you.
Fourth, the message. What might he find?
