I'm in my second year of Japanese at the university level, so next term I will be in Japanese 203. I hope to get a minor in it and travel to Hokkaido University in summer 2008, same as Olympics! Although that's in China. >_> ANYway, my sensei that I have had all this year is Nishio-sensei. I really like her, but she sometimes is inconsiderate and a little quirky. I like her, though. :3 Oh, and I go to University of Oregon.

My school is lacking in languages. My high school had more available than the university I go to, but the Asian Student Association on campus puts together classes and it's a great group.

ITEMhunter Dylan of Argentina I'm taking Japanese through Rosetta Stone. How's that going?I have a rosetta stone program but it's really confusing. All it does is give you a picture with some Japanese words and you have to memorize the Japanese and match it up with the picture in a jumble of other pictures. It doesn't even give you the meanings of the words.

I'm planning to take Japanese II next year. Although I don't have a Japanese class as of yet, my future teacher would be called Mr. Schreiber.

Thank you, but this is a long way away from me. I am still a Sophmore, but it is still fun to consider future possibilities.

I'm in Japanese 4 right now (高校三年生なよ). We've had two teachers so far in the program, Cunningham-sensei (not Japanese, but studied in college and worked in the JET program for something like 5 years, then went back for another 2) and Smith-sensei.
Cunningham-sensei worked us hard, man, but by God, we learned Japanese. And not only that, but she made sure we kicked a** at Language Fair every year. (She even made me compete my sophomore year, when I wasn't taking Japanese because of schedule conflicts.)
But Cunningham-sensei left on maternity leave, and Smith-sensei only spent a year in Japan (at Sapporo Daigaku). He's certified to teach German (and was my German 2 teacher for one term) and Physics, so he mainly delegates teaching duties to US and makes us teach our classmates. He's an OK guy and a good German teacher, but not really a very good Japanese teacher. (At least not advanced Japanese, anyway. I don't talk with the kids in Japanese 2 very often, so I don't know what they think of him.)
