"Okay, okay, I'm done now." Taking a deep breath, Mayu emptied herself of her last giggles and stood up. Glancing over, she managed to catch the eye of the lead girl, amazingly, who huffed and turned her attention back on Demare.
"My name is Birttany, and these are my loyal ... erm ... fans." The blond gestured to herself, then the girls surrounding her.

Demare began to feel like he was about to faint, but for some reason, he just couldn't. It was as if the Gods were torturing him right now, like he'd done something horribly wrong and was forced to go through all of this.
"Um... n-n-nice to me-meet you..." he stuttered, not knowing what else to do. "M-my name is D-D-Demare..."

"Demare, huh?" the girl said, horrible butchering the name. "Weird name, but okay!"
Sensing the boy's helplessness, Mayu leaned toward Demare and whispered, "Follow my lead, I'll get them to turn their attention on me while you get out of here!"
With that, she clung to the boy and cried words of adoration dramatically, hoping that her makeshift plan would work as well as she thought it would be. Having played the scenario out in her mind at a rapid-fire pace, she had estimated the odds to be a 50/50 win-lose chance, good enough for her.
The group of fangirls were utterly shocked by this outburst, but the blond -- "Brittany" -- stepped forward and snapped. "Get off my man!"
Mayu looked over at Demare, now would be a good time to run!

If his mind wasn't broken into pieces before, it certainly was now. While he knew it was, supposedly, just an act, it still affected him nonetheless, stiff and bristled as ever. Nothing could possibly have been redder than his face was right now, and he had completely lost his grip on reality.
His heart fluttered, everything was blurry, and he felt... happy. Not his normal, kind nature... but it was as if something had simply burst within him and he could hardly contain his joy. The only thing he couldn't figure out was why this was happening.
Hearing the girl snap, however, also snapped Demare back to reality, his eyes narrowing at the blonde. He didn't like the fact that she yelled at Mayu, and he suddenly got the feeling that she was threatened. Picking up his pink-clad friend quickly, he began to run as quickly as his feet could carry them both, determined to just get the hell away from the flock of girls. He didn't know where he was going, or when he would stop... he just kept running.

"RUN FASTER!" Mayu cried, peering over her shoulder. Though they were wearing tiny little sandals, a mob of angry fangirls could be deadly.
"Follow him!" The leader cried in frustration, and commandeered the girls behind her to charge after the two escaping kids. Flapping away in their sandals, the group followed after Mayu and Demare swiftly, catching the gaze of many a parkgoer.
They were persistant, too! One brunette almost succeeded in grabbing a lock of silver hair, but tripped over a pebble and fell flat on her face. The chase continued for what seemed like hours, until the swarm of girls got tired and finally gave up in persuit of another cute boy to follow.
Watching the girls trudge off in defeat, Mayu sighed of both exhaustion and relief. The frightening event was over!
"It's a good thing you run so fast, or else I would've been mincemeat for sure!" She sighed, "I feel sorry for the next guy they decide to stalk."

Demare didn't seem to be getting tired as he continued to run a little bit longer, realizing that somewhere along the way, they'd entered a more woodsy area. At first, nothing really looked familiar, having usually not come in through this way, until he remembered that one of the trees he liked had somehow managed to grow within this foresty place.
Slowly coming to a stop, the halfling blushed slightly as he realized he was still carrying Mayu, carefully placing her back down onto her feet.
"I'm s-sorry..." he appologized, running a hand through his reddish brown hair. "I just seem to be attracting bad events. I hope I'm not ruining your day..."

Mayu looked about the cluster of trees, and stretched her legs by pacing about. It was a nice place, and seemed much more serene than the rest of the crowded park. "This is a nice place," she commented, leaning against a thick oak tree.
"It's okay!" Mayu laughed, "Today has been fun!"

The halfling felt relieved at hearing that, his wings fidgetting a little bit as he began to take in his surroundings. He could show her one of his hiding places -- a place Clare tended to go to think whenever he was in the body and Demian wasn't bothering him -- but he was afraid of what she would think. It was a cherry tree, somehow grown in the middle of these woods; it was "dead" right now, however. All of the blossoms had falled off and floated away the previous month, and all that was left were the ricketty branches; a tree left in its wintery state throughout most of the year.
Stepping over to a large root coming up out of the ground, he sat down carefully, leaning his back against the trunk of the tree as he relaxed a little bit. A little peace and quiet felt good, and he figured nothing would be able to bother them out here for the moment. They were completely alone, save for any bugs, birds, and other creatures wandering about.
...He blushed a little bit. They were completely alone.
"Oh! Um... t-thank you for helping me get away from those girls," he said, glancing toward the ground as he smiled a little bit. "Do you know why they did that? Did I do something to make them surround me like that?"
To him, he'd felt like he'd done something wrong.

Mayu's gaze was currently fixed on a lazy monarch butterfly fluttering about slowly in a sort of drunken dance. Truth be told, she had actually enjoyed the strange (and random) events that had taken place throughout the day, as they had brought an air of "excitement" to the day, as compared to her normal everyday life where she just mulled about the house and watched television, or something of the sort. She held out her left index finger for the butterfly to perch upon, and it did so gratefully.
"You're welcome," she replied, sticking out her tounge in a teasing way. "And, I'm not that sure. I wasn't really paying attention, but I guess they thought you were cute or something."
She examined the butterfly's wings for a long moment, becoming entranced by the patterns the veins made on the thin things. It fluttered its orange and black wings carefully, before folding them to rest on the girl's finger.

"...Eh??" he sounded, confused about that. "They thought I was... cute?"
For some reason, this seemed to be a concept Clare could never grasp. He'd figured himself to be hideous with all of Demian's talk of no one ever really accepting them, and simply passed on anything Neko or family said as them just being nice. Never once did he think he might be attractive in any way, and somewhere deep down, Demare had thought that people were put off by the fact that he was so different. That he was, almost literally, black and white.
"I'm not cute..." he sighed, slumping down in his seat a little bit. He raised his eyes to Mayu for a moment, watching her interact with the butterfly as the pink color returned to his cheeks. He suddenly wished he had his scarf so he could hide his face. "Particularly nothing compared to you."
The last part had come out quiet, and he didn't even realized he'd said it aloud.

The majestic insect toddled the distance of Mayu's index finger easily, having regained some energy during its short rest. Stretching out its wings again, it fluttered to show its gratitude for the seat and flew off towards the sky. Mayu gave a small wave to the butterfly, energy apparently sapped by the day's events. Normally, she would have been crying out goodbyes to even the smallest animals which had taken perch on her finger or branches to rest, but she had not been involved in so much excitement in such a long time that she had spent most of her energy in such a short little time. She plopped upon the ground, sitting cross-legged, and watched a line of ants march in and out of a nearby anthill.
Her acute hearing caught Demare's last words, and a bright pink flooded to her cheeks. She lifted her gaze from the tiny insects to look up at the boy.
"What?!"

"I... I mean...!" Demare blurtted, waving his hands in front of himself in a frenzy. What DID he mean? And... why did she react like that? His face only began to turn redder as he quickly looked back to the ground, his hands reaching up to grasp onto one of his pendants as if it were some sort of safeguard.
"I mean... It's just that... Well..."
He couldn't go back now. He'd said something, and now he wasn't sure of how to explain himself. He'd just met her! ...But it's not like a compliment meant anything, right? Or did it?
"I... I think you are, anyway... You're ra-rather pretty, and y-y-you're nice, a-and..."
He didn't know what else to say.

"Thanks," Mayu said, cheeks a light pink. She had always thought herself quite drab, especially compared to her friends. She glanced back down to the anthill, unsure of what to say next.
Awkward silence, here we come.

Demare tried to think of something -- anything would do at this point -- to say or do. He didn't particularly like the awkward silence, as it was very uncomfortable and made him feel like running away. Running away, however, wouldn't be a good idea after what was just said.
Peering about the woodsy area again, he noticed a large group of white flowers illuminated by the the sun pouring down on them from an open patch in the trees. He thought they looked pretty, and was tempted to go investigate them when he noticed something moving toward the plants. Quietly getting up from his perch, he cautiously moved a little closer to get a better look, and noticed a deer stepping into the sunlight, a small fawn wobbling not too far behind its supposed mother.
"Hey, Mayu..." the halfling whispered softly, waving a hand to beckon her over to him. "Look at that."

Mayu pushed herself up from the sitting position and walked over to Demare curiously to see what had caught his attention. She had never seen a deer in the wild before, not that close up.
"They're beautiful!" she replied in a hushed tone, as not to spook the doe and the fawn.
The two animals padded about the flowers slowly for a few moments, not noticing the children watching them just a few feet away. Mayu accidentally made a shuffling as her branches met with a low-lying branch from a nearby tree, and the fawn retreated slowly. Its mother sensed its fear and looked toward the area from where the noice had come, and started towards it in curiosity, though ready to run if the beings which lurked behind it would be a threat.
