Personally, for as much as Quatre might want to help Dorothy, I can't see her ever reciprocating his feelings. Same as logistically I can't see him and Trowa working out either.

However when it comes to supporting a couple. I'm sorry but I go with 3+4. I think there's a real cute potential with those two. Of course it doesn't help that I am a shounen ai/yaoi fan... but hey I like what I like.

Usually, I write in a fan creation for Quatre to date/hang out with. I don't like either pairing in a romantic sense. I can see the idea of forgiveness on all angles... I can also see the idea of Trowa and Quatre being very close friends. I also see Duo and Quatre remaining close friends.

Quatre may end up as friends with Dorothy along the lines of seeing her at various functions in their social lives. Because of their family status, they're both in the same social circles along with Relena, Une, Mariemeia... that group. Somehow, I doubt the idea of 'nobility' will ever truly fade. In fact, Duo refers to Europe as "Romafeller country" in Battlefield of Pacifists, which indicates that the old ideas of social casting are still in play.

The five pilots are bonded through a significant and traumatic event that they have in common. However, that's usually not enough to maintain a romantic relationship indefinitely. Sometimes, it brings people together for a moment... several months... but they usually don't stay together permanently because they're often reminded of that event by each other. To use some other examples, in the book Christine by Stephen King, the main protagonist dates the girl that helped him 'defeat' the car... but there's an epilogue at the end where he says they couldn't stay together because the event kept haunting them. It's also cited in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Cho starts dating Harry, but keeps thinking of how Cedric was killed during the Tri-Wizard Tournament and that Harry was the one that had brought his body back from the cemetary... therefore, she can't stay with him for the sake of her own emotional health.

Quatre does definitely look at Dorothy as someone he wants to help. He tells her, "I was once like you." And, by the way he talks to her during the fencing match in Libra's Mobile Doll Zero Control Room, it's like he's trying to convince her that she doesn't have to be the way she is. He tells her she's a kind person, and she can do better in her life. However, she doesn't see it. Basically left alone in the world after the end of the Eve Wars (losing her father, grandfather, and cousin all very close together), Dorothy is still somewhat dark and out for herself. She uses her skills in gathering information to help with locating Vulkanis, and then uses her charisma and coy words to convince the people to stand up against the Barton Foundation. However, it's clearly a way for her to exercise her own power and keep her self-interests.

Dorothy would need a stronger person. Quatre, yes, is actually very strong, but he's also very open with his emotions. Dorothy would get bored. She enjoys secrecy and intrigue. She'd want a darker, more closed off person she can try to reach inside and bring out. I can see her going through several relationships merely for the thrill of the chase, then getting bored and dumping them several months... if even... later because she's bored. If anything, Dorothy might try to go after Heero, if only because he's off limits (sort of) and intriguing to her. Plus, she might want to do that to irk Relena. Despite her little 'plot' of bringing the two of them together in Battlefield of Pacifists, I can see her going back on that and going after him herself if his relationship with Relena doesn't 'progress' according to her 'guidelines'... or how she thinks it should.

I honestly just don't see 4D in the series. Don't. See it. At all. In my opinion, at least I can see how 3x4 would work during the show, since they have had plenty of time to get to know each other. True, I can see the arguments against it, since (especially at first) Trowa was certainly much less responsive to interacting with Quatre (much less anything else!) than vice versa.

What leads me to believe that 3x4 was supposed to be hinted at, at the very least, during the series was primarily that there were several (two that I can think of off hand, although it's been too long for me to be able to say the episoide) scenes where Trowa and Quatre were interacting to the background music that would be played at the same time that Heero and Relena were doing something significant. Also, as friends go? I can see Trowa and Quatre sustaining a long-term friendship better than Quatre and Dorothy. Also, during the series, Quatre is more interested in Trowa's wellbeing than Dorothy's (scene where Quatre meets an amnesiactic Trowa).

All in all, I think that Quatre and Dorothy would, yes, have interactions after the series was over (although they didn't seem to meet up much, judging by the manga that take place afterwards and EW), but I don't think she ever was or ever would be attracted to him or vice versa. It's always, "oh... and we need to pair up Quatre with someone, so... Dorothy's avalible!" I can understand how he would want to help her, and I can understand how he could see something of himself in her. I think that much is readily obvious to the viewer. I don't see how he would become attracted to that, though, as while he does take it upon himself to help others, he certainly doesn't seem to idolize martyrism. Even so, she doesn't seem like the sort of woman to need a savior. Relena is more receptive to that idea, although she is still capable of taking care of herself. Dorothy seems to be doing fine after the series ends without Quatre's help or love.

Okay,for me it goes like this. One of my favorite pairings is 3x4. My reasons for not seeing them with their female counter parts are as follows. Trowa considers Catherine his sister and Midii(spelled wrong?) is too small of a character al most to consider a possibility. As for Quatre, poor Quatre. How could you expect anyone to live with a crazy person like Dorothy? Personally I can't stand her character, she's like Relena, jsut there to toy with the minds of the main characters.(no affence to you who like either of them)

Other than that it is hinted in the series and mangas several times. Quatre goes to see Trowa at the circus, he's the olny pilot ot actually see Quatre's home. Then there is the time when they rescue him after he gets amnesia. Also, who is the one to find him after Dorothy stabs him? Trowa!

And believe me, I have tried and tried to picture the two with their female opposites, but I can't, so for me it is easier to see them together than not!

1) Regarding Midii - Her getting back with Trowa is no less realistic than anything else in the series.

2) Regarding Relena and Dorothy - Neither of them is there just to screw with the boys' heads. Relena is their strongest ally, and one of the few civilians who can empathize with them. Meanwhile Dorothy is more antagonistic, but that's because she's had a different life and lived under different circumstances. Like the boys, she's had a major trauma in her past that she's going to have to get over; it's just going to take time.

3) Regarding Trowa/Quatre - Quatre sought Trowa out during his amnesia period because they're friends, and he still felt guilty for what happened. Heck, he spent a period moping over the idea that he'd actually killed Trowa. As for Trowa finding Quatre on Libra, that was just stupid coincidence - he was the only of the boys on the ship at the time, and Quatre couldn't leave under his own power. It's not like he's got a special sense to tell him that Quatre was in danger or anything.

You're certainly welcome to your opinion, these are just some points I respectfully dispute.
