Snakes, Owls, Birds, a Bear, Rabbits, Bats, and more that I just can't think of now due to my headache.

Kangaroos
Wallabies
Brushtail possums
Echidna
Rats [Native water rats and Introduced Norway rats]
Mice [field and house species]
European Rabbit
European Hare
European Red Fox [if you want to see foxes, get yourself a fox whistle, get yourself hidden up a tree or someplace where you outline is 'broken' and start squeaking it. Works like a charm]
Feral cats
Dozens of Brown snakes
Wedge tailed eagles
Brumbies
Hawks
Falcons
Crows
Magpies
Lyrebirds
Whales
Dolphins
Sand sharks
So many fish I couldn't list them
Sting rays
Octopi
Bats
Emus
Various small and large lizards

There are others obviously but it's difficult to list them. I've also caught a fair number of the animals on that list, too.

Was that list built up after years of chance encounters, or have you gone out seeking animals before?

I'd say it's a good mix of both; During the winter I spend a good deal of time looking for rabbits and I see lots of other animals whilst doing that [red asterix next to those critters]. Seen mobs of 100+ roos. I've sought out foxes quite a few times, they're generally not too hard to find either. And it's fun to walk as quietly as you can through the bush to see what can be found. That's a very effective way of seeing wildlife. 3nodding
Some critters like the bat were completely accidental- he was sleeping in the curtains in a cabin up in the high hills where our grade was staying for an excursion; caught him and let him go outside.
Hmm, letsee. Water rats were intially a chance encounter but now I know where they are I get to see them a bit, every 7-10 days or so. Same with possums.^^

I'm guessing that someone has either lived in or vistited Australia. UNless a nearby zoo had a breakout.

I didn't see manatees mentioned so I figured I'd go ahead and say I saw a herd (is it herd for manatees? the sea cow?) swimming in some channel in Florida. Apparently it's quite common down here, although I know they are threatened. I saw some dolphins at some point on that trip also.

I've seen ordinary animals like squirrels, chipmunks, and an assortment of orthoptera and birds. I live in Florida right now actually, so I've seen a lot of the larger birds more common to the region.

In Korea I saw plenty of different fish in the market, including a few octopi that had been caught and kept in one of those plastic kiddy pools you can buy at Walmart. In fact, I slipped on a fish and almost fell into the pool, so that is how I remember. Yuck.

Edited: There are peacocks that actually run free in New York near Saint Patrick's Cathedral. They aren't technically considered captive, they were just adopted and live there and never wander off the grounds. Saw them when I went to visit during Thanksgiving '05.

But yeah, I live in the middle of nowhere and I like it, I love seeing the varity of animals around. There are also many of rodents: squirrels, chimpmunks, mice, rats. Hmmmm...... Don't really remember what I've seen... I also don't know most of the name of the animal that I encounter with.
Gigantic Bats (Don't know what's this actually), some small Cobras, some Earth Snakes, an Eagle, a Crane, some Monkeys (They pulled my pants asking for food, that's one funny time), a huge lizard that looks like a Comodo (Don't know what's in english, but in Indonesia, it's called 'Biawak'), a huge Phyton, three Blue Sharks, Octopuses, a Hedgehog, and more that I can't remember what are they..
