"Mmhmm. Fine. Whatever, just don't get out of the tub. You'll put water everywhere not to mention you'll ruin how far we've gotten." Yazoo replied as he advanced on the other boy. Time to conquor those tangles!

Taking hold of a sopping wet mass of hair he began to push the comb through the slick but tangley locks. Goodness this was going to take all day he thought as he encountered a rather large mess of something he'd rather not know.

Ifrit grunted. He was serious. If that kid dunked him again...oh, there would be hack to pay! He sighed and rolled his eyes. "Wouldn't want to ruin anything, of course not. Because we've done so much..." he mumbled sarcastically.

He sat patiently as Yazoo began to yank a comb through his mane. He yelped every so often at a tug, flailing and trying to pull his head back. If it took this much work to be beautiful, he wasn't sure it was worth it...

"...what's the point of being pretty anyways?" he asked with earnest curiosity. There better be a good reason behind all this hassle.

Ignoring the boys sarcasm Yazoo fought his way through the tangles and eventually came to a point where the conditioner would likely do the rest. Huffing out a sigh he set the comb down and then reached for the bottle.

"You're gonna have to wet your hair some more so put your head under enough to do that." he said as patiently as he could. "Being pretty is important because people will judge you by their first impression of you. Do you want to be penniless all your life cause no one will hire you because of bad hygiene?"

It was rather simple an outlook but Sephy and Rufus had made sure to point this out to the young boy early on so he wouldn't ever be uncivilized looking.

He grunted and flailed a bit more as the combing continued on. He combed his hair and all- Alex made sure the boy brushed his hair and teeth every morning. It was just...at the rate he played combined with the length of his hair, it tangled up easily and Ifrit wasn't going to stop every ten minutes to brush it out. Alex was lucky he could get the boy to brush it in the morning.

Ifrit grumbled as the boy informed him he needed to go under again. At least he could do it himself. He dunked under quick, popping up as soon as he could, hoping this amount of wetness would suffice.

"What do I care what people think? If they don't like me, they can bite me." he snuffed. "I wash every so often an' I brush my hair an' teeth in the morning. I have hygiene. Why ain't that good enough?"

Giggling at the huffy boy Yazoo squeezed some conditioner into his hand. "You're silly. You shouldn't be mean to people you don't even know. They're told to look for certain things. That's why you need to fit the bill."

Massaging the creamy liquid into the other boys scalp and hair he hummed a bit as he went.

Ifrit crinkled his nose as the boy conditioned his mane. "Well, if people I don't know are gonna to be mean an' judge me, why can't I do th' same to them?" he retorted.

So people looked for certain things? Well, it made more sense now as to why some people cared so much about how they looked, then. Still, he wasn't getting why he had to impress these unknown people. Alex always said a friend was someone who accepted you on a good day or a bad day. But then again, these people probably weren't intended to be friends.

Ifrit sighed. He supposed it didn't matter right now. He'd let Yazoo pretty him up for now and maybe later he'd try to take more time on how he looked...just to show those people who were going to judge him!

But a thought still bothered him. "Why do girls seem to care a lot more about how they look? Do they hafta wash more coz they have cooties or something?"

"They're not mean to you. They're just trying to find the right person." Yazoo explained as he rinsed his hands off. " Rinse please."

Dragging the shampoo bottle to him he began to laugh at what Ifirit said. Girls? Have cooties? No way! What a kid!

"That is such a little kid way to look at things. Girls do not have cooties. They're people just like you and me." he said still chuckling.

He sighed a gave up on the argument. He supposed the boy had a bit of a point, though it never fit well with the lesson of 'respect what's on the inside' he'd heard iterated so many time. Ifrit leaned back carefully, trying to rinse out his mane without completely going under. He hated going under. It was so dark beneath the water, so cold and quiet...it made him uneasy. Terribly uneasy.

He swished his mane around in the water behind him, splashing the top carefully to make sure everything was clean. With all this cleaning, the fire Aeon wouldn't be surprised if the boy went as far as to shine his horns afterwards.

"People with cooties." he mumbled, bobbing back up. "And of course they're people, but they ain't like us. They ain't half as cool. An', hy-pa-thetically speakin', if they DON'T have cooties, they still have girl germs." he sniffed. "I don't see what the point of girls are, 'cept to bother people."

Reaching into the water he helped rinse the mane out, being very careful not to push the scaredy cats head under. Raising an eyebrow he rolled his eyes as he listened to the rant about girl germs. Yeah, and the huge mass of whatever he had found in this guys hair wasn't germy at all, sure.

"They have babies and are mommies." Yazoo said without thinking. It was true and if they had a good point then he figured that was the best example.

Once Ifrit figured they'd rinsed enough, he sat back up, anxious for this to be over. Apparently, the amount of hair he had was heavy when it got saturated like this. Ah, this would have been much easier if they'd just used a hose. But no, they had to use a tub and weird-smelling oils. He was sort of glad this boy didn't live with him- he wasn't sure he could put up with this happening every day.

He was quiet a bit after Yazoo gave his explanation. He was naive, but not too naive. He knew it was the ladies that had babies. Not girls, but ladies. Mommies. It made sense even though he never put too much thought into it.

"I s'ppose so...but that's ladies. Not girls. I mean... I know girls become ladies but until they do, they ain't got much use." he stated. "It'd be a lot easier if there was some way to just skip the girl part of having babies. Though...I don't think I'd wanna para-sit-ic creature growing in my tummy. It's what babies are, you know. Parasites. Alex told me they were things that live in or on other creatures. Babies fit the bill, ya know. Girls can keep THAT."

Yazoo blinked at the boy. Did he just call babies parasites? Good lord who was teaching this kid?

"Ummmmm ok. you know that babies only grow in the womb right? They don't suck the life slowly out of their mommy. Parasites are things that slowly take the life out of their host and give nothing in return. They never leave until the host dies. Babies get born when they're big enough to come out." the little boy said sucking on his upper lip. Sephy had been embarassed when he had asked but he had heard some girl saying something on the street so he had asked the one person he thought would know about babies.

Alex wasn't the worst teacher, it was just that Ifrit often misunderstood things and since he rarely asked for further clarification, no one really corrected him. The gypsy had given a lecture on parasites when they'd found and removed a tick from Jukal. Ifrit just figured that since babies lived inside a person and fed off their nutrients, then that made them parasites by proxy. How was he suppose to know there was more to it?

"They're still gross. Girls can keep 'em. I'll be fine if I never have to deal with babies." he said, sticking his tongue out. he was clearly not impressed by the subject of babies and childbirth. Alex had informed him on the topic when he'd asked...but they didn't get in depth. Ifrit was fine not knowing all that much. "Can we get this done? I'm tired of sitting around in water." he said, making a face as he iterated the word 'water', like it was something foul.

"Fine." Yazoo replied as he sighed and poured a generous amount of shampoo into his hands. To get all that fur he was going to have to use alot of this stuff he thought as he started to scrub at the now tamer mane.

"You know water and soap doesn't hurt you. You should try maybe a smaller basin at home to sit in." he tried hopefully as he scratched the scalp gently to pull up any dead skin.

As he got lower on the boys body though he froze and looked wide eyed at the other boy a bright rosey colour blossoming on his cheeks again. Well he certainly wasn't washing down there. Ifirit could get that himself.

Grabbing the boys hand he squeezed some shampoo into his mit and said "You scrub down there." with a point at the lower regions under water. Then backed off so he wouldn't see anything unseemly.

He grunted a bit in response as the other boy sudsed him up. When the boy had started at the top Ifrit relaxed quite a bit, making an odd sound between a purr and a grumble as the boy got behind his ears and massaged his scalp.

"Don't like...basins. Don't like water. Hose works fine most of the time..." he murmured, still too relaxed to be indignant.

He was jerked out of his relaxed state when the boy stopped scrubbing and grabbed at his hands. He sat there, palms full of soap. He sighed and dunked his hands under, making sure to clean properly.

"See, this is where the hose is better. Cleans stuff off without too much scrubbing. Stagnant water can't do that." he grumbled, a little peeved he was no longer getting a comfy massage. He didn't seem terribly embarrassed at all, though. But then again, this was the boy that didn't wear clothes and ran around with the boy; modesty wasn't high on his list. "Why'd you get all red like that...?"

"A basin is much more shallow then this tub and it would be able to clean the spots the... er... hose.. missed." Yazoo replied "The water in this tub isn't stagnant. It has a filter that keeps it constantly running. Haven't you noticed that the soap is disappearing from the water?"

Standing over by the vanity he looked down at the contents of the table so that his eyes were too busy to notice what was going on behind him.

"I'm not red." he mumbled quietly as he turned one of the bottles to face out like the rest.
