Elizabeth looks down at the flute, grimacing slightly as her fingers are stretched. She tries to vibrate the air correctly. A small sound comes out, not in tune with anything. Blushing, she stopped, and looked at her teacher. "How was that, Nagenami-sensi? I know it didn't sound like anything musical, but how was it for my first attempt?"

"Well goodness, you've never played a flute before, you have to learn, of course. Music cannot be mysticaly attained in five seconds. Now, I tuned it so there is nothing wrong with the flute, you just have to get your air right. Now, take a deep breath from the bottom of your lungs and direct the air down into the flute. Try to keep blowing and settle the note."

Elizabeth, looking determined, nods. Taking a deep breath, she blows steadily down at the hole by her mouth. She looks up as she hears the note coming out of the flute, smiling with her eyes. As she finishes off this breath, and note, she stops and lowers the flute a tiny bit.

"How was that? The note seemed steadier, although it was a little loud."

Smiling, she looked up at her teacher. "I think it sounded okay. I really think I like the flute."

"Very good. The begginer book will guide you through a simple, level octave. As you get better, you can use the blue book to learn your scales and other fingerings. Scales are very important in an instrument like the flute. Many of your thirty-second note runs will be major or minor scales. Also, key signature is very very important and knowing your scales will allow you to deal with such things."

Elizabeth listens intently to her teacher, nodding. "Wow, that's a lot of information to remember. Do I have to memorize all of that tonight? When can I have my first lesson? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be impatient, but I've had a long day, and my head is starting to hurt."

One hand went up to her head, wincing as she touched the cut, the other continued to hold the flute. "Please forgive me. Is there any way I can meet with you tomorrow?"

"Of course of course. And no you don't have to become a concert class musician in a day. Don't be rediculous. I was a prodogy and I wasn't even that fast. It takes time. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll pick up the beat in no time. No pun intended of course. You're lessons can start tomorrow between your last class and band, alright? During band I'll probably be starting with the basics anyway, so don't worry."

"Thank you so much, Nagenami-sensi. I promise I will be here, and that I'll try my best." Elizabeth moved to bow, still holding the flute and almost felt over. Standing up, Elizabeth rested the hand holding the flute on the table, supporting herself, the other going to hold her head. "Should I take my flute with me, or should I leave it here?"

"That's the case right there. I want you to take it and practice some, okay? Don't slack now, we want you to grow as quickly as possible. Alright, I'll show you how to disassemble and assemble it and you need to be careful. I'll give you a simple tuner later. Okay, here's how it goes." He opened the case and showed her how to clean spit from her flute and how to disassemble and reassemble it. "Now, be sure to make every minute count. Go throught he begginer book and it will show you how to count and everything such as that. We'll cover that tomorrow in theory too."

Elizabeth watched as he cleaned and put her flute in the case. "I'll try to practice tomorrow morning, if I wake up early enough. If not, I'll try between classes, or before band class tomorrow night. Thank you so much for helping me." Picking up her case and bowing slightly, Elizabeth walks over to her books. "May I be excused, Nagenami-sensi?"

"Now now, there's nothing stopping you from practicing tonight. No excuses, you don't have any classes and plenty of time before curfew. Now, yes, you are excused. Have a good day." He began to pick up the instruments and put them away.

"True, I shall start practicing tonight. Thank you Nagenami-sensi. I hope you have a good day too." Elizabeth carried the flute, her music, and her books to the door, stopping to turn back and look at him. "Thank you again for being understanding." She turned and walked out the door.

"Farewell." He sighed. Gosh, lunch had been so very long ago. Had he eaten lunch? He couldn't remember. He might as well go and get a bite from the... yes, the student union would be nice. Teacher's should be able to get some stuff from there, even if it was a 'student' union. Pah, he was just as disliking of the cafeteria food as he was.

He moved off after packing all the instruments away. He needed some tuna. Yeah, that would be good.

Elizabeth walked into the room and took a seat in the back. Opening up her notebook, Elizabeth started doodling in her notebook, waiting for class to start. Trying to remember what happened last night, and trying to forget about the assembly, Elizabeth's mind went straight to Akimo and Jun. She felt hurt, but realized that there was no way she'd be able to be with Akimo.

I'll just talk to him about it soon, I hope.

Startled, Elizabeth reached out a finger and touched the tear that landed on her paper.

Koroji walked into the band room and shook his head as he mumbled. "Gosh, I can't believe I totaly missed the first period. I feel terrible. I can't miss my second period. Gosh... That poor kid. He hasn't eaten enough. I wonder what's wrong."

Kimiko entered the band room quietly and pulled a folder from her bag as she headed for her seat. She made a mental note to retrieve her clarinet later so she'd have it for Band practice.

She sat down and pulled out a pen, then looked up at the teacher. Nice guy, Sensei was. He always seemed to be looking after the students.
