MrsBHavin if one is afraid of calling themselves a witch because they are afraid of the crazy looks they might get weether the are a witch and not wiccan or they are both, by not calling your self a witch when you are you are in denial, plus you care too much about what other people might think so you arent actually a witch because you arent willing to give it your complete all. i say that because you still hold on to that little factor that people might descriminate you for what you say you are.so there is still that little doubt in the back of your mind saying are we sure this is what we want to do maybe we should try this over here instead. I really dont think thats fair. Sure, it is good for people who have a lot of self-esteem, or ar in positions to be out of the broom closet, but some do not have that luxury. If someone says I'm not wiccan because I dont yell in on the top of my lungs every chance i get, I'm hurt, and angry. I've told a few people, and it has lead to akward silences, and sterreotypical comments, and they dont want to here my speach about what wicca is about. SO, being out of the broom closet is good for you fine. for others, its they are not ready, and you should respect that

Depending on the people you live around, they might highly disaprove of your faith and I'm not quite sure of the power some communities have but I think it can be very.

Personally I prefer the term witch, because I am not wiccan, and I think it would be confusing to refer to myself as a wiccan (even if it is the more well recognised term).

I use both because as you can see by Amabael...Not all wiccans are witches and not all witches are wiccans...but myself I don't care what I use because I am a wiccan witch lol..

Well, I might not be Wiccan, but when talking about the subject I personally prefer Wiccan over Witch. Witch has been misused a lot, and when people think of it (other than wiccans or people who don't know about this religion of course) they think.. wands and harry potter stuff..ect.ect. Then when you tell one your a witch, they think that, and they think your just crazy or something offensive of the sort. So that's why I prefer Wiccan.

I am both. I like to use the term "Witch" when referring to the magickal side of my practice (spells, etc.) and "Wiccan" when I am referring to the more religious part of it (worshipping, etc.) But that's only around my friends who know. If I'm telling someone for the first time, it's usually because they've asked what my religion is, so I say I am "Wiccan" because then I am referring to the religious part of the practice. But once I explain it, I throw in the term "Witch" since I also do magick.

Well, if I'm in a friendly mood, I'll explain the wiccan thing, but if I'm feeling kind of mean I'll just go, "I'm a witch... boo!" Sadly people are frightened by that :S I hate the simple minded... lol
