Oh and don't know if i have told it already, but here in the dutch version of BatB the Voice of Belle is the same voice as the Dutch Christine and the Voice of Gaston is the voice of the dutch Erik =D

That's what I thought! I was talking to my friend while I was watching BatB for the first time in a while and I said that in the prologue type thing a pretty enchantress changes a Raoul looking guy into a beast, who must keep a rose in tact until his 21st birthday, which is how old Raoul is in the book. He also has a magic mirror.

I'm kind of out of it right now, so if that sounds weird I'm sorry. sweatdrop

There's no suprise that there are similarites between the two; both stories are French. It wouldn't suprise me if Gaston Leroux was inspired by the tale and weaved it into his writing.

Actually the story's "plot" of ugly creature falling in love with maiden/beautiful woman is not anything limited to those two stories. You have Victor Hugo's Huncheback of Notre Dame as well, and plenty more I don't feel like remembering. It didn't start from Beauty and the Beast. It was just more or less made famous by it.
