Lyra dropped to her knees in front of him, eyes scanning the landscape for danger. "What's wrong? What happened?" Her voice was tight, she wasn't sure she could take many more surprises in one day.

"M-my head." Kamiss groaned, and curled into a fetal position, grabbing his head as he cried out. His skin seemed to darken and stretch, and his ears elongate. His eyes widened. "Get out of here." He grimaced again. "They're coming. Don't worry about me; I'll be able to hide. FLY!" He said as he got up, running north, apparently away from the directions he said the dmeons were coming from. A few seconds later, black shapes came trickling around a croner to their south.

Lyra was hovering in an instant, trying not to let the tears fall. She could almost scream with the pain in confusion weighing her down. But she flew, up and up, into the clouds, letting the mist dampen her fears. She could still see the dark shapes to the south, so much more distant, but she had lost sight of Kamiss. She could not understand what was happening, but she knew that at least up here, she would be safe for the time being.

Kamiss almost slammed into a wall, turning quickly. The demons cornered him in the alley, and Kamiss attempted to jump, but his legs buckled. A demon approached. It was one of the large ones, with tentacles. Kamiss groaned as the demon turned one 'arm' into something akin to a sword blade. He raised his hand and a black energy ball appeared hovered in front of his palm, and he shot it foraward. It went two inches before fizzing out. Kamiss looked at his enemy in the eyes, knowing Lyra was safe, and there were probably more survivor. So when he looked the demon in its red glowing eyes, he held it with confidence, almost taunting it. It raised it's arm and... Was cleaved in half as a man in black clothes from the army, like Kamiss', dropped out of nowhere and swung a 5-foot katana. On his back was a spear-like staff that had dual curved ends. He reached back and grabbed it, throwing it before him. It swung like a boomerang, cutting a portion of the enemies in half. He then melted into the ground, and appeared behind the rest of them, where he proceeded to cut the both with katana and the staff when it returned to his hand. The man then walked through the black gore and looked Kamiss in the eye. "Good to see you again." The man said quietly. It was Zero. Kamiss' brother.

(K, no more making me almost cry. Geez...)
She flitted like a hummingbird, back and forth between the dew-filled clouds. Her clothes were soaked aready, but she had to keep on the move. She knew a place to go, a place where she could find help...if it were still standing.
Lyra watched through the patches of open sky, seeing the landscape stretch out beneath her. It was so awful, seeing a place she once knew now so empty of life. What mocing blurs she saw were dark, like and infected wound, and she knew that they were demons. She had not yet seen a sign of light. No birds, no animals. No people. Still she flew on, growing heavier with the unrealistic hope she carried with her.

Zero raised his hand and his arm stretched to the top of one of the tallest buildings. He grabbed hold, and his body raised after him. Kamiss leaped along side him, and they scanend the sky for Lyra. "I thought you were dead." Kamiss said quietly. "And I you." Zero replied.

She'd found it. An old building, ivy smothering the old stone walls. But she knew it well, and loved it. She was almost crying, so happy that it was still standing. She landed softly, making no noise, and gasped at the sight of flame flickering past the window. If only...if only they survived. She stepped to the closed door, hesitating, then knocked. If it wasn't them, she was ready to attack. If it was...oh the relief she would feel.

Kamiss and Zero saw Lyra go flying through the air, but she didn't notice them. They saw her going into a crumbling building, and Kamiss immediatly knew this had to be an important place to her, because otherwise she'd have gone to another area. They followed close behind, constantly checking the ground for their pursuers.

(Sorry if my random changing of everything annoys you. I know this was based on your story, but...random inspiration.)
She smiled as the door opened, somehow knowing everything would be alright. The laughter that greeted her was warmer than the fires the raged in the demons' camps.
"Hello, Lyra love. We've been waiting for you."
They were a strange pair. Two humanoid-like beings, but they were much taller than regular humans, their skin was dark green, and vines grew in their hair. The duo had been her teachers, once upon a time. They had not changed, thought the world around them had almost been destroyed.
"Orlu. I knew you would be here. And Feru. I've missed you too so much!"
The male, Orlu, stepped into the darkness and grabbed Lyra hand, pulling her into the home. Feru embraced her, and they all started laughing again. Suddenly, Lyra pulled up and frowned, looking out the window.
"Listen. I...we need help."

(No problem.) Kamiss and Zero were through the hole in the wall, and saw through the door Lyra hugging the vine-people. One hand on their swords, the walked forward. "Hello." Kamiss said politely. Zero was watching the hole for attackers. When none came forth, they both relaxed their grips on their weapons. Kamiss turned to Lyra and nodded. "You were saying something bfore we came in." Zero walked over and nodded to Lyra in greeting.

"Yes. These are my friends, Orlu and Feru. They're been here for as long as I remember. they know the old ways, the know the old magic. I think they can help us, if they're willing."
She turned back to the elementals, asking the question with her eyes.
"Of course, love. Anything for you, always." Orlu smiled his quaint little smile, and led them all into the backroom. it was filled, wall to wall, floor to ceiling, with books. Ancient books. Books with strange writings in them.
"One of these will help, I'm sure. We just need to know the exact nature of the problem."

"Except for the fact demons and orcs-not to mention probably others-are attacking, we have no idea what is going on." Kamiss said, stepping forward towards the books. "We have no idea why this happened, or who caused it. All I know is that we all were talked to." Zero added.

"Ahhhh..." Orlu sighed. (Sounding a bit like Yoda, I might add.) He seemed to slide over to the first bookshelf on the left, leaves and vines trailing behind him. He reached up to the fifth shelf, which was right above his head, and pulled down an old, dusty tome.
"Whispered callings, unknown danger. We should have sometyhing..." He flipped through the pages quickly, a small purple flower blooming over his right ear as he stopped on a page near the end of the book. Feru leaned over his shoulder and read, "When all goes dark, and the Guardians are named, the world shall be in it's last hour. The darkness in the hearts of men will have sent out a call to the powers of the other worlds, and those with souls as black as pitch will rain down on the earth."
The elementals locked eyes and shook their heads, sharing a solemn secret.

Kamiss growled deep in his throat. "This world is ending. But this book isn't closing. This will not be the end. I am going to fight until every last one of those demons are back in hell." Kamiss drew his sword. "The demons are here, but not to stay. We are, as the book says, Guardians. We will not stop. And others will come. They will help us." Kamiss had been an underachiever all his life, trying his best but his best not being good enough. Even in the military, Zero led the squad, not him. That would change. He didn't want to lead, but he wouldn't mess this up.

This time, when Orlu anf Feru locked eyes, they nodded, and a miniature smile could be seen on both of their faces.
"That is so, human. Let me read the rest."
Feru cleared her throat, and let her finger rest on the second paragraph of the prophecy.
"When the world is at it's darkest, a warrior will rise to be the shining light of the people. With knowledge of the enemy, and hidden powers he must unlock, the warrior will be the greatest hero of the earth, and he shall banish the darkness to the depths of eternity."
Orlu snapped the book shut before Feru could read the last line, vines from his fingertips binding it closed. He clanced at Lyra, and she sighed.
"Come on. I know what we have to do now. Let's go."
