"H-helpers are g-g-good." Anoki offered, hoping to make Laial smile instead of frown. To Vivina he nodded. He'd already said the pie was good. Really he was thinking that it was so-so, but she had been nice enough to share, so he should be polite.
When the adult started to speak Anoki listened intently, but quickly became confused. He had already finished the picture he was making. But he wasn't sure the others had, so he didn't say anything. Instead he stuffed the last of his carrot sticks into his mouth and stared at the table. He could be patient. He had to be patient.

"Bu' they make your ma pay less attention to you..." Laial muttered. Helpers were bad in that way. They might act nice, but they took your real guardian away...
Nexen nodded eagerly. Yes, the bugs were good, although they tasted slightly burnt. Her ears flattened against her head at the amplified clap. OW! She crouched down and hissed at Dan. Couldn't the stupid human be a little quieter? Her ears were twinging already!
Scheu lightly smiled again as he took Laial's empty bowl and placed it with the other dishes. But Laial's comment...it was so sad...because it was true. He placed a hand on the boy's hat. It was the first time he ever heard Laial refer to Maji as his mother.

Vivina smiled at Anoki and Nexen and rushed to clean everything up. Outside in the playground! What fun! After spending some time indoors, outdoors seemed like a dream come true. She couldn't wait to see the new playground equipment in the are behind this building. She's seen it once with her mom and Dan, but never actually played in it. She couldn't wait any longer, but first things first. She went over to get her collage again to finish it up. She only needed to glue a little more pieces together and that seemed quick enough. As long as she didn't get anything stuck to her again, she was perfectly confident that this will take only a few more minutes.
Dan chuckled as his clap apparently seemed to have been a bit too loud for Nexen. Apologizing, he told her that next time he'd be careful. After that, he went over to collect the empty bowls and dishes and brought them to the dish washer. He set the machine up to clean the dishes and walked back to the art room. "Don't take too long finishing up the collages. The quicker you finish, the more time you have to play outside. But don't rush too much or else things might not come out the way you want them to." Sitting on his desk, he watched the others again as they went about their business. He saw Anoki sitting patiently and smiled. Guess he was done already. Such a nice boy he was.

((My apologies for not posting. ^^; ))
Anoki listened to Laial's words with a blank expression, and finally shrugged. It wasn't a though he'd gotten a huge amount of attention before Mahou showed up anyway, so there really didn't seem to be much of a difference. Mahou being there probably meant that Anoki got more attention in the long run, and he said as much. "B-but m-more people 'r-round means m-m-more at-t-tention. Ev-ven if s-someone's b-b-busy."
Then the grown-ups started talking again, and Anoki had to listen. Since he was finished, he wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to go outside, but going before the others had finished probably wasn't allowed. So he stayed seated, trying his very best to be patient.
