It was a mess.
The Sidhe took no prisoners with their collective assault. Hy-Brasil had opened her eyes, her channeling still active, to determine how much s**t they were all in. The answer was a whole lot of it. Try as they might, with the sheer amount of them, the Sidhe were impossible to avoid. People dodged out of the way of one and one or more were there to take advantage of the attempt. People were suffering in a way that Hy-Brasil intimately knew. A darkness that took over one’s mind and just wrecked havoc with little regard.
And the Earth Knight wasn’t spared their advances.
Hy shifted this way and that, careful to keep the channeling going as a funnel of fog continued to be drawn into her burner. She couldn’t avoid them for long though. Especially with so many others falling to them. Hy became a sitting duck.
Spinning to acoid one Sidhe that came from her right, she practically moved right into another one. A second one was quick to reach it’s little tendril arms into her abdomen while the other still made contact. She froze. Nearly broke her channeling as her vision darkened and she fell to a knee. The dark thoughts were always the same. The pure waste of a Knight she was and her inability to even save her own Wonder. Her brother and Father, both of whom Hy could only assume thought she was dead and her lack of ability and drive to tell them otherwise. Because who wanted to know they were related to a failure of a human being and an addict?
It was so easy. So easy to let that darkness wash over her like the tidal wave it was.
Had another Sidhe joined the other two?
Hy couldn’t tell..
She fell to her knees, hitting the rocks hard, supporting herself with her stave. Somehow, through it all she continued channeling. Though, what had once been a torrent of fog had lessened to a trickle.
Blue eyes, wet with tears she hadn’t realized she was shedding, looked out at the sea of darkness around them. Colors popped through every now and then. The others. People like her. All of them were just overwhelmed.
Hy needed it all to end and a part of her just wanted to lay down right there and let the Sidhe do what they wished to her. Mentally she apologized to everyone who had come to help her. Apologized for her complete lack of ability to keep them safe. To keep them from dealing with the horrors that resided of the wonder Hy-Brasil.
It just needed to be over.
But, Hy kknew it wouldn’t be a quick end. Not with the Sidhe. Their inability to physically harm meant the torment would just continue. On and on until either her body, eventually, gave up or her mind did and something drastic was done. It was a sobering thought. A reminder that nothing in life was easy, even the inevitable.
The flow into the burner increased a bit.
She may be a waste of a Knight. A complete and utter disappointment of a daughter and sister. Hell, every bad thing that her mind could fantasize could all be correct and true, but Hy was certain that whatever the others were experiencing wasn’t. They didn’t deserve this.
The speed increased again.
They were worthy of existing. Of not being tormented. And Hy would be damned if she let anyone experience what she had for the last several years. No one deserved that amount of torment and torture.
So, even though her confidence in herself faltered and wavered. Even dying completely, Hy wasn’t going to give up on everyone else. They had come to help her and she’d be damned if their gesture of kindness would be rewarded with darkness and despair.
As if those thoughts were the main driving force, the Fog increased it’s vortex into the burner. It didn’t take long after that.
The fog around the island finally lifted. It might have been slow and tedious, but what had once been a wall was gone. The ocean was revealed in all of it’s glory with the sun reflecting off the blue-grey surface. Hy barely registered it as she pulled herself back to her feet.
The sidhe certainly noticed it though.
They stopped their pursuits of hunting down the others. It started with just a few. The ones closest to the ocean. As if drawn to it, the entities turned and moved right to the water, gliding over the breaking waves and out to the open water. They got a few yards out before completely dissipating in small puffs of white clouds. One after another. Their departures were slow. Almost achingly slow, but once the gates were opened it was a steady stream.
A few, those further away from the water seemed to be turning to flee. Drombeg, once settled upon the stag, was carefully let down from his mount. And the white stage quickly began to round up the stragglers. Antlers poked and prodded the creatures towards the water. The summons was the only thing unaffected by the dark touches of the Sidhe and it continued its herding of them with ruthlessness.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the very last one of the sidhe was pushed to the water’s edge and finished the job itself as instinct took over and it joined the others in their own release.
With that last Sidhe finally gone, it was like. weight had been lifted from Hy-Brasil’s chest. The darkness still lingered. She expected it always would, but the pure brutality of being pummeled by it had lessened. The Knight hiccuped a sob of relief as she stared out at the ocean.
It was finally over.
The Sidhe have been purified from the Wonder. Those who wish to stay, gather themselves and find camaraderie in their shared experience are welcome to stay on the Wonder. Hy will escort them all to the castle as well as offer healing to anyone who needs it.
Effects of the Sidhe Touch The lingering effects of the Sidhe touch can last anywhere from a few hours to three weeks. The pure overwhelming despair and dark thoughts will have diminished with the purifying of the Sidhe. What is left is more echoes/after thoughts/effects.
Thank you so much everyone for joining in this little ORP! I hope you all enjoyed your time. There will be an after-event RP. I will get that started as soon as I can and tag you all in. If you wish to not participate, that is completely fine. It will be there for those who want their chars to connect after such a mental assault.
