Devils Dandy Jiggalicious Hehe! Your craving isn't all that odd. Or maybe it's just me. I think the pleasant, brisk and slighty soapy taste of cilantro is a huge necessity in my life. I understand ya! I'd die if I couldn't get some cilantro. *laughs* Come over here, and we'll go to Mr. Natural and have potato flautas with cilantro and avocado sauce! I swear they have the best mexican brown rice, too. Oooh, and horchata! And these really pleasant gorditas with refried pintos and mild white oaxaca cheese! *wiggles her antennae* You tempt me. Evil! BUT OMG WTF XD People keep saying cilantro tastes soapy. >_< *Ded* I like to actually think of it as more perfumey, and it reminds me more of a good hawt men's cologne...but I think it's a taste that reminds people of certain soap smells, more than anything. Of course, I think bleu cheese smells and tastes like Band Aids. *laughs* Sure, it goes ok with some things...but really...moldy Band Aids springs to mind almost immediately when I smell it. By the way, I don't sit around gnawing Band Aids...I think the smell is similar enough that it raises the alarm bells. Just in case you were wondering. mrgreen

Are you a taster? I can't do anything that has too much of the pith of lemons or limes in it. The bitterness sends me into a tailspin.
I once made a huge pot of black bean soup...and it called for whole sliced lemon...and I couldn't eat it. My ex thought it was the best thing in the world, but I was thoroughly disappointed.

*Shrug* I dun think so. The things I can't eat, I notice in anything, but I don't always taste every flavour in any given dish.
I do love lemons though. And a lot of foods have tastes I associate with other things.

I'm the type that flips through a recipe book and says....er...so and so can't eat that...so and so would hate this...oh, no death to so and so... I love the taste of lemons...just can't do the pith. Same thing with aspartame in anything. The bitterness and aftertaste is so resounding and gross I can't bear it.

I like most flavours. Not big on sweet, but yeah, I tend to remember who likes what and who can't eat this or that.
As far as I'm aware, I have no food allergies. But cantaloupe and popcorn, even just the smell, make me feel sick. Cannot eat cantaloupe for anything. Licorice or spices/herbs that taste like it.
There are a few other things that I can stand if I have to, but don't really like them. And I don't eat shellfish or shrimp, but that's not a taste issue so much as, I just won't eat these things.

Re: Cilantro. I really like it. It has a herby, astringent taste that is almost effervescent to me. However, I have a friend who maintains that it's scientifically proven that some people's taste receptors interpret cilantro as overwhelmingly soapy and she's one of them, therefore any time we go for Mexican, they have to forego the cilantro. And in some places, the cook would as soon have a hand chopped off.

I almost left then and there and didn't get the groceries. Would have if I wasn't shopping with someone else.

Mmmm, a foodie thread. Most of the time food is just fuel for me but occasionally I'll come across something absolutely divine and go into spasms of joy. There are quite a few foods I can't eat because of allergies or bad reactions so it's always nice to find heavenly food that I can eat.
This past summer we went visiting my husband's family and friends in Wyoming and North Dakota. In the Dayton area of Wyoming we were told that we HAD to go to the Wagonbox Inn and have one of their burgers. Our friend couldn't come with us, but he insisted that we take his money and lunch would be on him. That was the best burger I've ever had in my life and I love hamburgers. It was a hand-formed patty, probably had some sort of sauce mixed in with the beef, and it was flame-broiled. They put it on a handmade bun with fresh lettuce and tomato. Heaven on a burger bun!
In Rugby, North Dakota there is a little cafe called the Cornerstone that has the absolute best pancakes ever. They are light and fluffy but still very filling. They tasted like they were made with buttermilk, but I couldn't talk the waitress into telling me exactly what was in them.
We just got back from a trip to Vancouver Island where we found the joy that is Tim Horton's. It's a coffee/donut/sandwich shop chain with the best tasting donuts I've had since the little independent shop in town went out of business. I've never had a Crispy Cream donut, but my husband says that the Tim Horton's donuts taste much better than the crispy creams that he's had. Something else that was really cool were their lunch combos, sanwich, drink, and a donut instead of fries or something else that's just filler. Now we just have to figure out how to get Tim Horton's to expand into the States. wink

I have a friend from Canada who visited me an brought me some coffee from Tim's. He's constantly going on about Timbits, too. smile Or is that Tim Bits...*laughs*
Maybe I'll visit him and see what he means.
I live near a Krispy Kreme, and I must say they are an interesting specimen of doughnut. The glazed ones are like eating air, and they're best warm. I doubt they are the be all, end all of doughnuts, but they're pretty good in a pinch. The automated conveyance that cooks them is hella cool, though. biggrin
Here, the biggest and bestest of the best is a weird wrinkled vibrant yellow orange dyed donught called a Round Rock Doughnut. People have a bizarre cult of some pastrylike sort built up around them. They're a little yeastier and have a more glutinous texture...and are best warm, as well.
That said, I'm a less sweet freak, so I'll just mosey over to Hyde Park and get me some Wom Kim's Peach Pudding. *giggles* I don't really like peaches and I love this stuff. Peaches lurk in the bottom of this homemade, tender yellow cake, balancing out a pointed lack of sweetness. Served warm, the "pudding" is served in a pool of fresh cream, and is a pure delight to eat. Normally, I don't eat peaches, but for this...I'll make every exception. 3nodding

My least favorite foods in the entire world is Liver (I don't care how it is cooked I can't stand it) and menudo, just thinking of that gives me shivers, nasty crap. My favorite is a gizzy, well thats what my mom called it, I don't know what else it's called, but I do know it is made with eggs, if you want the recipe I will have to get with my sister on that.

The coffee at Tim's smelled wonderful, but since I don't drink coffee I can't tell you how it tasted. I can tell you that we're now part of the cult of Tim's. We've even got a location scouted for their move south. lol I'm told there's a crispy cream in Portland, but they haven't invaded this far south in the valley. We need a good donut shop here, we haven't had one since the last locally owned grocery store went belly up a few years ago. We haven't had good donuts since about 1988 though. I am a sweet freak but that peach pudding sounds divine. Peaches are one of my favorite fruits.

Gizzy sounds scary as a name for a food, but if it's like a breakfast casserole, I sure could go for one now!

Gads I hate the time change.
HATE IT!
But I sure to like a nice breakfast!
