Koril- Post 6

At the sound of "Sauti," Koril instantly lit up. "That would be great! Thank you!" Brow cocking slightly, he gave the hand that he was already holding a light shake. "My name's Koril, and this is Flana! What's yours?"

Looking back toward the stage, his expression flattened a little. The guy was right... "I suppose it's only right to let us know something's going on," he murmured. "They may not know why it happening yet, but at least we now know to be more careful?" It wasn't much of a comfort, but it was the good that he could see in the moment.

AKIYAL
Post: 8

Akiyal snorted, the corners of his lips tugging up in a helplessly sardonic smile as he gave an unusually agreeable nod. The leaders would have been better off simply admitting to their ignorance and pleading for their people to travel in groups for safety, if there'd even been a need to hold a gathering like this at all. Some of these people, being that the majority were Zenans from the mountains or traveling Wind tribe, had had to journey to come here at all and listen to this news. He couldn't help but think that this information, little as it was, would have been just as easily passed by word of mouth.

And words traveled quicker than bodies.

If what they said was true, and single travelers really were being abducted, how many had been lost as they tried to make it here? Callum had come on his own. Aki had come on his. It could have easily been either of them, and no one would have even known, so distanced from their family that they currently were.

His father could have tried to come on his own and simply not made-

Akiyal dismissed the thought before it had even fully formed. While Aki did not mind a trip or a crowd, he was at least reasonably confident that unless Xilarn thought his son would be here specifically, he would not go out of his way to make an appearance. His old man thought crowds were ostentatious, noisy, and messy, and likely more so when riled by fear and uncertainty. He would not have come. Akiyal nodded reassuredly to himself.

"Oh, hey. Did you come down from Zena just fer this?" Aki asked, turning an inquisitive glance to his companion. "You was up in the mountains last I saw ya. Did you come to listen to these folks jabber or are you staying somewhere close by? I've been going from place to place, but I live in Sauti, anyway, so I ain't that far from home," he imagined. Probably true, though he had no idea of the actual distance between this gathering and Kesris.

Volkarosh
Post: 6
Location: With Arronthain and Sol and Koril
--------------------

Volkarosh let herself be dragged, lagging behind just a little. In part, it was to give Arron a hard time. In part, it was to give herself time to take in other observations and to listen to what was happening.

The extremists? Was that possible? Did they ever leave the Southern island? Not enough information... Volkarosh thought.

And what would be the bait? That was something that could be considered for later.

For now, this was a fellow Alkidike Hybrid and a... Red-haired, red-eyed matorian? With a Raptrix among them? This was certainly of interest. What would they know?

"Good day." she said quietly to them as she and her brother approached. "Do you mind us joining you?" Her words were crisp and sharp, like ice in winter. Arron would (or should) do most of the talking, of course. He was better at it than she was...

Callum - 7

"We're still in Zena." Callum snorted with a little grin. Maybe he meant down from the far north? Or did the boy just think they were still in Sauti? "Actually, I came here just for this. I live and work closer to the border; it's a little warmer there." It wasn't as if he detested the cold, but he certainly didn't fair as well in it as his family did. Callum was tall, exceedingly so for an earthling, but he was also thin, with a propensity to wear sheer clothing.

So, to Callum, a cool breeze was pleasant but thick snow was a constant hassle.

Sol - 6

"Sol." He gave a little awkward quirk of a smile; one that might have gone unseen, since his already darkened skin blended in with that of his cloak. While he didn't necessarily mean to come off as curt, Sol was more than a little socially awkward, and at times could seem a little rough.

The young hybrid was just starting to warm up (pardoning the pun) to the other when two more decided to join them. His smile, as brief as small as it had been, closed off and became a warily thin line. A part of him wanted to say that yes, he did mind, since one was enough for him socially and two more would just be pushing things. Unfortunately Sol had been raised with manners.

So, he simply grunted and nodded his head in way of a greeting. Surely that was good enough.

Chapter 9: Grave Expectations

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Whatever levity had bubbled out through the crowd with the little girl's accusation was quickly snuffed out when a scream was heard nearby. A young woman was stiff, her look of terror nearly etched into her face permanently without any sort of life in her eyes. She was being grabbed by something. It was terrible looking, standing like an earthling, but without even a second glance it was easy to see it was not. It was covered in exoskeleton, though most of it was shrouded in a dark cloak. Strange noises were coming from the shadows of the hood, clicking and hissing like some sort of beast.

The little girl in the crowd shrieked, no longer fearing the great bird as her mother quickly picked her up and carried her farther away from the thing. The others in the crowd seemed to panic. No one was prepared for this, no one knew what to do in regard to this thing that just seemed to appear out of thin air.

Freya yelled out, calling towards the thing, while Vescillea lifted her bow.

Draven
Post 3

Draven hadn't said much of anything soon as things seemed to go towards the fear of these missing people. He had traveled here with a companion, where ever she had disappeared to. He had left his Alk companion when they made it to town. He was sure that she would be alright, she could certainly take care of herself. He had seen that before hand and wasn't going to worry too much. For himself he wasn't too worried either, with Regale, not much wanted to tangle with him. Not with those fangs and claws. He could or would most likely tear anything to shreds.

When a cry came from a direction, Draven's head snapped in that direction as he instinctively put a hand to the scabbard at his side. What the heck was that? It was the first thing that happened to cross his mind. Something that hissed like a beast, but stood like an earthling. stepping away from the crowd, trying to get a better look at the creature. With the crowd a sudden panic, Regale stood stiff and growling at its companion's side.

"Well, that is not the thing I would think to be taking people." Draven half chuckled in the light of the situation. He didn't know if it was the right thing to do, but he certainly didn't want to make the panic even worse... Lovely...

Koril- Post 7

Koril thought he she a little smile; but, of course, he wasn't completely sure. Just to be safe, his own smile grew in return. "Sol." He looked over as they were approached, and had no hesitation in nodding. The more around, the safer they would-

He spun around at the scream though, still holding tight to Sol's hand. Habit had him clinging as if he was with his parent or his sister. "What is that?!" he shrieked, hiding a little behind his companion. Red eyes were wide as they watched the woman dragged back.

Flana spun around to braced herself in front of her owner, teeth baring to hiss at the sudden threat.

Makani - Post 4

There was a lot of talking going on around him, enough that he was able to get a bit of a feel for what everyone around him thought was going on. Fingers were pointed in a few directions and information felt... sparse. There wouldn't be a lot to bring back to the inn, huh? He wasn't sure what he would tell his sister other then that they needed to move in groups because being alone was dangerous. It was something that would make Makani's job a bit more complicated but better safe then sorry, right?

As people seemed to start to talk among themselves and the energy around him seemed to lighten he found himself wondering if maybe things were going to break up soon. It might just be a gathering to tell them what was going on and how to be careful going forward. Just as he thought that he heard a shrieking sound, it was a young voice, and that sound was soon echoed by a bunch of other voices. What... what was going on? Something had caused the energy around them to go from light and jovial to something more akin to a panicked mess.

"What... what's going on? What can you see?" He asked of the man with the janarim. His version of sight was often 'blinded' when a lot of people were gathered, more so when they were in such a panic. All he could do at the moment was hold tight to Rae's collar and call out the one that he'd been chatting with. He heard the man's voice saying that it wasn't the thing that he thought would be taking people, which made Makani even more curious as to what exactly they were up against. Just to be careful he reached into the pouch at his side to get out his runes.

AKIYAL
Post: 9

Akiyal scoffed softly, rolling his eyes and bracing his hands on his hips in a physical display of how little he cared to hear Callum’s sass. “Hardly,” he retorted flippantly. “I was up was way far north for a little while, to see Zidel. I hadn’t never seen it before, and it was snowing there. I thought it snowed all year-round in Zena. But it ain’t snowing here.” A little nippy, maybe, but far from the sheets upon sheets of ice that had greeted him in the north. As far as Aki was concerned, if there wasn’t snow, it wasn’t Zena. Not that he had a great grasp of geography to begin with.

He opened his mouth, prepared to say more on the subject, but a high-pitched scream from somewhere behind him cut him off. Before he’d even turned around, he felt a stab of annoyance. Everyone here was displeased. No need to go hollering and making a show of it; he was trying to have a conversation.

Aki shot a glare over his shoulder, but his irritation melted into confusion at what he saw there. A creature of some sort, bug-like and hissing. Alkidike were bug-like, ugly things playing with weird tree magic. Was this some sort of attack from them? It didn’t look like anything he was any sort of familiar with. The crowd around him too seemed outwardly confused and alarmed. The thing was a surprise, and probably dangerous if it just popped in and started grabbing people.

But there were enough bodies between him and it that Aki couldn’t bring himself to hold the same kind of fear. So he squinted quietly instead and raised a hand to very lightly brush the length of Callum’s forearm. “Hey you, you ever seen a thing like that before?”

Nuawahn
Post: 4

Everything went over Nuawahn's head, to be honest. Even he didn't think that the feathery thing had taken anyone - it was too pretty, but aside from that, there were all sorts of big concepts that he just didn't get.

But then something very wrong happened, and even Nuawahn understood. Danger.

He didn't like danger.

"Aaah!" he whimpered, covering his ears and summoning a shield. A bubble of light and force encapsulated him. He cringed away from the crowd, suddenly overwhelmed.

Is anyone hurt?

The other hybrid was uncomfortable with their presence? Too bad. They were there, and Arron would get information out of them, she was sure.

But then priorities shifted. Volkarosh snapped to attention at the sounds of clicking and at the apparent abduction. "Arron." she said, giving him a look. "I guess we don't need a trap after all." her expression seemed to say, "What should we do?" She wasn't sure she could hit it from here, not with her current skill with the crossbow. In the end, it might be best to stay back and observe, but she would follow her brother's lead.

Draven

Post 4

Draven glanced back towards the one with the feathered canine. This before looking back at the strange creature off to one side. "Something out of a nightmare." Draven answered though somewhat more to himself then others.

"It stands like we do, but hisses and clicks like an insect. Shrouded in black, it looks like it's searching for something..." Draven looked around at the panic, his and reaching out to grab the harness of the Janarim that still stood growling at his side. "The way the leaders are acting, I have a sinking feeling we're going to have answers one way or another."

Draven edged away from the crowd, the panic and movements drawing him further away from the creature, while Regale shoved people back with his bulk, not liking to be pushed. But he didn't snap at anyone, while the temptation was there...

Makani - Post 5

Makani tilted his head, listening to the description that he was given by the janarim owner. It really did sound like a nightmare, didn't it? An insect that walked upright instead of like bugs normally did. He'd have to assume by the reactions of those around him that it must be rather large as well, "Doesn't really sound like anything I've seen before." A joke that he couldn't resist making despite the situation. He had to try to keep his sense of humor in the current situation as it was all going sideways very fast after all.

From what the janarim owner described what was before them was not something that he really wanted to face off against personally. A shame that Sin'qua wasn't here, he'd love to have her as back up at the moment. He felt that at least then he'd be able to better focus and aim his magic if she was there to back him up. Given that she wasn't here though he would need to do what he could... which was mostly keep himself in one piece and offer any healing aid to those around him who might be in need once the dangerous insect had been dealt with.

Taking a step forward with Rae's help he felt a flare of magical energy, something that made him go tense, before realizing it wasn't attack magic. No, this was a spell that he knew well enough, a defensive one. So there was another magic user out there? Possible back up when it came time for healing... provided the insect wasn't alone and it became more of a battle then just a tussle with a singular entity that was.

Callum - 8

Callum had grown so accustomed to hearing screams, both of the terrified sort and the excited, that somewhere alone the line they had blurred in his mind. He might not have turned to inspect it at all, so sure was he that it was simply some rambunctious youngsters, had Akiyal not paid so much attention to it.

And what he saw was nothing short of a living nightmare.

What sort of creature clacked and hissed like that? A bug in Jauhar, maybe, but they weren't nearly so bipedal! He wracked his mind for any kind of information on the creature, even a scary story Nimueh might have told the children to get them to behave, but nothing came to the surface.

Still it nagged at him, as if he should know what it was, but in the flurry of the moment he simply couldn't remember.

"I haven't, but we can't let it get away." Callum's hand went to his sword, tugging the ringed blade free from it's scabbard.
