Mik went down hard to the ground, shivering still.
"Why does everyone always WANT TO HURT ME?" he yelled as he scrambled to his feet. "I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO ANYONE."
He brought the knife up, shaking with fear, hurt and anger.
It didn't even occur to him to summon, to use the range he had on her, he just wanted to drive her away, to punish her for making him believe again that he could be loved at all, and he had nothing to lose, he'd hurt someone and things were over.
"IVE BEEN TRYING SO HARD. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME."
But even as he yelled for help, he leaped towards her again desperately trying to land another strike with the blade, feeling that the only way he could escape her was by fending her off.

"Give me that." Still dragging the weapon in her other hand, she grabbed at Mikael with her bloody arm, not even recoiling as the runic blade went right through her hand. Her fingers closed on the handle and she snatched it away, grunting as she tore it out of her palm and threw it far, far into the dark corner.
"Children shouldn't play with knives, children shouldn't do anything, children should be good." She shoved him out of the door back into the fog and perhaps it was just Mikael's wild imagination that something clattered at his feet and looked a lot like the same white crystal he himself had been stabbed with.

Unarmed, he was on the brink of summoning Fen, only to realise in a hurry that there was a crystal. Snatching it instead, he whirled on her, skinny and quick but not strong, trying to jab it hard as he could into any of her flesh, any of the wounds he could get near as he threw his whole tiny body against her.
"I /am/ good." he snarled.

"You-"
It was then that she noticed the crystal lodged in her chest.
At first, nothing happened, she tried to grab him by the shoulder, tugging at the chain of her weapon, the broken boards in the house clattering with each movement. At first it was just fog and shadows and her.
- And then, almost too slowly, she noticed what had happened and looked down as the shard slowly drained a thick filament of red from her body - not red like any blood, but a strange glowing, angry red that moved and lashed out within the crystal.
She collapsed, weapon immediately disappearing, and didn't move again. The crystal was gone too.

Mik sunk to his knees helplessly by her side, feeling like he'd killed her when all she'd wanted to do was to look after him. Maybe she'd been genuine, just rough, maybe he would have been happy with a mother to care for him again.
"I'm sorry." he said, covering his eyes and sobbing. "I ruin everything."

She didn't move, but moments later, in the silence, a red butterfly flew away from her body, untethered the moment the crystal disappeared.
'You did this', the butterfly seemed to say, tone oddly menacing, 'You killed her.'
It disappeared but the voice grew louder. 'You enjoyed it.'

"No!" he sobbed. "I didn't! I didn't!" And his protests grew all the more frantic for that tiny sliver of him, that tiny guilty primal fraction that thought to itself "I won." "I'm alive" "I survived" and jubilated in the success. It made him feel horrible, utterly deplorable.
His weapon felt no mercy, the wild was about fight and conquer, survive and thrive. If you fought with intent it was to the death, every hunt was a step away from death. He did not regret, he did not submit, he was the alpha, one of a breed that was ancient and unconquerable.
"Please don't be dead." he said, shaking the still figure as if it would wake her up. "Please."

Laughter, mad, unsynchronized peals of laughter, and then the noise was gone.
And perhaps to Mik's surprise, the other Hunter actually did stir, just slightly. Her eyes fluttered open, looking around as if through a haze, and then at him. "You're hurt," she managed, not even noticing her own hand as she raised it up to brush against his shoulder, "You should- treat - that-"
She struggled to stand up before wincing slightly in pain. "Got to- warn- virus-" the last word came out as a gasp as she realized something quite suddenly, slowly phasing into lucidity. "The butterflies."

Mikael's relief was intense as she stirred, trying to help her up. "You need to get to the infirmary, your hand is hurt." Amongst other things. His own injuries didn't concern him.
"Do the butterflies make people crazy?"

"That's- that's definitely one way to put it," she said, slowly leaning against Mikael to try and get feeling back into her feet. She looked at him, as if realizing something as well, and there was a pang of regret in her expression, but she quickly suppressed it.
"We need to warn people of the butterflies, we might be under attack." On her feet now, she tried her best to gain balance. "Infirmary now, I owe you apologies later." There was that weird hurt look again.

Mikael was still shaking, still traumatised by what had happened and what he'd done. He wanted to detach himself from it all and deny it had happened, go back to his posters and his oblivious contentment, but people would remember.
"Yeah." he said. "Infirmary. Lets make sure more people don't get hurt" He didn't offer his own apologies, mainly because he knew it would be so pointless to try.
"I'm Mikael." he said.

She flinched at the name introduction. "You can just call me Ana," she finally said, using a spare pocketknife to tear her scarf into two.
"Here," she put away her pocket knife and held up her hands in a neutral position, "I just want to bind your shoulder so it doesn't bleed out as much or- or you can do it yourself if you'd like."

"Nice to meet you Ana." he said with a more earnest smile. "I wish it had been a nicer circumstance." Most of him hurt and he was still worried about the boy who'd been helping him put up posters. He flinched when she drew her knife and only relaxed when she put it away again.
"If you could do it." he said very weakly. "I don't know how."

"It's going to hurt," she said very softly, wrapping the scarf around as loosely as possible at first. "I'm going to count to three and tighten okay? One, two-"
A sharp sudden pain-
- "Three," she finished sheepishly, quickly tying everything up. She hissed as she did the same.
It didn't take long for the two of them to reach the labs area, and less long for her to drop Mikael off before mentioning something about an emergency. It turned out in the mess Mikael had also suffered several other injuries including a concussion, and the prescription of that, according to a very harried Moon hunter running around several rooms, was rest.
It didn't seem like it was possible, but perhaps sleep was the easiest thing to do now as Mik was given a bed.
He would wake up to a chair full of bright flowers, a giant stuffed bear that held a heart that said "I'M SORRY", and a huge box of kit-kat bars for some reason.
