Rota's grimace never left his face as he moved to the next room, his new Aura following by his side. He could see the candied hallways slightly melting as he made his way through them. Good. They did not deserve to be here. He breathed flames onto Abyssian(Schism) as he was faced by the latest victims of his world ending blade. "Hey, Hag-b***h! Last time we were here you made this big deal about how us taking too much time in here would only make you stronger!" He pivoted on his heel, spinning 360 degrees clockwise, cleaving all that dared get in the way of his hungry blade. "What happened?! Too Much ******** candy!?! Well, I'm not going to give you ANY time ANYMORE!"
Croire could only watch as her master gave in to righteous fury and self hatred. She flew to Alyxandeyr's side. "Sir Alyxandeyr, what is going on with Master Rota? Do you know why he is acting like this?" She knew that Master Rota had been stubborn, to a self-destructive degree sometimes, but this kind of anger she hadn't seen since the fight with Bakugami. What was happening to her Master?

Alyx watched as Rota cleared another room with a single stroke. He was thankful that they had such a nuclear force, but he was worried that Rota was playing into the hands of the stranger in the darkness. It was standard practice to field your weakest troops in a show of force to exhaust your opponents before they reached the nougaty center of death that were your elite troops. In preparation for this, Alyx was conserving his energy as best he could, saving his true strength for the further rooms. He was as angry as Rota, but his anger was a cold, glacial thing. It moved slowly but inexorably forward. His vengeance was an inevitable thing. It could have patience. "We had someone who depended on us to protect them. We couldn't do it, and she was taken. I think your master is feeling the same frustration that I do at that shortcoming." Alyx blamed himself more than Rota. He was the one woefully ill-equipped for that mission. He had failed the witch, and he could still taste that defeat. "Just try to stay out of his flames. He might need you soon.. What the?..."
Where the zombies had clawed at his armor, there was some syrupy substance on the plates, and as he watched, it seemed to be eating away at the carapace. "Rota! Don't let them touch you! They're corrosive!"
~New effect! Candy Rot!~ A lack of good dental hygiene leads to cavities! Watch out for the candy, it rots whatever it touches! Get it on your clothes or armor and it will eat away at it until there's nothing left! Did you remember to bring your toothbrush?
The next room had only four zombies in it, each one oozing a revolting, putrescent liquid that looked like congealed syrup. "Well, that's disgusting." Alyx raised his sword to slash across the nearest zed, keeping his shield ready in case. There was a huge degree of unknowns in this fight. They had yet to fight the same creature twice. Anything was possible. And, given the corrosive quality of the candy, any contact with the enemy was just going to wear them down further. They were getting screwed from all sides. The longer it took them, the harder the dungeon got, but if they didn't exercise caution, they would have no armor to defend them by the end of it. At least their weapons seemed unaffected by the rot. For now.

Rota briefly looked at his armor, and noted gel on his right pec, left shortrib, and right thigh. He noted these in his memory, because he was going to make this Hag pay in blood for harming his possessions in this way. As much as he wanted to go completely whole hog on these necrotic nuisances, he needed to rein himself in a bit. He had already shown the force he commanded, now was time to dial back. He had already made peace witht he fact that some of his aura was going to go to waste, but he needed to in some way preserve some of his fire for moments of need. No feeling was returning to his body, so at least his adrenaline was doing its job. For the second time, he roared at the ceiling and coated it with his flame. This part was a first, since he had always combined this with his Spin. To conserve his stamina, he had to allow the fire to rain from above in its natural descent.
Croire nodded her head in acknowledgement. "Yes, Master Rota did speak of such events. And after being adjacent to his flames for so long..." She winced in both fear of the damage of her Master's wrath, and in sympathy for her Master's fragile state of health that he was ignoring, "I really have no urge to leap into danger." She looked back to Alyx, braving the hordes. "Apologies if I am being too distracting, Sir Alyxandeyr, but if you are sympathetic to Master Rota's anger, how are you dealing with it so well?"

As Alyx pulled his blade out of the re-corpse, he felt it heavy with that disgusting syrup. He was loathe to wipe it on anything, lest it eat its way through it. He decided he'd suffer it for now. He couldn't imagine what breathing a superheated version of this disgusting nonsense was doing to Rota's lungs. As they walked to the next room, Alyx addressed Croire's query. "We have different ways of dealing with our anger. For Rota, it turns outward, and consumes the object of his aggression, like a flame. For me, well... My anger chills my blood. It moves like flowing ice. No force on the planet could stop a glacier from destroying what is in its path, but the glacier itself is not in a rush to get to where it's going. My anger fortifies me, while Rota's anger appears to grow and consume. In both cases, we have destroyed the object of our aggression, but we are different in our approach, I suppose." He left out the final part of the metaphor, wherein, without an outlet for their anger, Rota's flames will consume himself, causing him to spiral into self-destructive acts and trials, while Alyx' anger tends to paralyze him. The Gloomking looked at his hand and made a fist, hearing the crepitant, arthritic sounds that it made. Almost like fighting rigor mortis. Like frozen bones being rattled in his gauntlet. "Make no mistake, I am furious. But I'll save my strength to utterly destroy the one who has angered me, not her minions."
His skin turned pale and his cheeks sunk slightly. He took on an appearance akin to a frozen corpse. Taking a deep breath, Alyx blew a stream of cold toward his shield, creating a thick sheet of ice on its surface. He had a feeling that he was going to need to use it sooner than later. His flesh slowly regained what little color it normally had as he recovered. He wasn't dead yet, but it seemed like the more power the spirit of the Gloomking gained, the closer Alyx got to walking the line between frozen revenant and still-living knight. "Don't worry, little one. Stay close to me and his flames shouldn't harm you." mist rode on his words as his power chilled the air he breathed.
The next room had only four zombies. Two of them were horrible, force-fed, bloated things, slow-moving, with syrup dripping from their black lips like vomit. The other two were slender, twitchy creatures that moved like Japanese spirits, flitting from place to place. Alyx decided to try to block the assault as the enemies charged.

Rota decided to quell his fire for now. The Rain was coming down in meteoric fashion as expected, so he had no need to concentrate on it further. He looked over his armor, and blotches on his left forearm, left calf, and right shoulder now joined the previous sins. More blood debt. It was then that his mind was ripped back to the past a la PTSD. He recognized the spastic dead that he and Alyx had killed last time. They were reaching their point of failure. As much as Rota wanted these things to feel his wrath, he had to keep himself together. He was stronger now. He would not fail again. He SLAMMED Abyssian(Schism) into one of the jittery zombies in a flash from shouldered to tip in the ground, biding his time until he could truly let loose again.
Croire watched in awe at her Master's companion. The elegance of his technique was stunning, and made excellent harmony with her Master. She had observed as much in the fight against Bakugami, but this was on a whole other level. She was also beginning to appreciate just how hard they fought. It's one thing to fight for your life against a nigh insurmountable foe. It's a whole other matter to fight that hard...normally? She supposed this also was an extenuating circumstance, since this was a fight to regain honor and make wrongs right once again. Her closest baseline would be the fights immediately BEFORE the Boar God, but that was hardly a decent yard stick. It was then she heard the term 'little one' and got confused for a brief second. "But he's...OH, the general...I feel foolish." She lowered her eyes in reflection, "Though, one part of your analogy was left out a bit. They say that the hottest part of a flame," She looked to Master Rota in concern, "is within."

Alyx observed as Rota's mere presence attracted the ire of all four of the creatures, with just one bothering to take a swipe at him as it passed, which Alyx caught on his frosted shield. Well, he's certainly gotten their attention."What am I, chopped liver?" Still, that hit was enough to inform him that there was no way he could block all of those attacks at the same time. He was nowhere near the tank that he needed to be for this venture. This dungeon was far higher level than anything they'd encountered. And every hit that he let Rota take only reduced the Demon Blacksmith's ability to shrug off those hits. The worse tanking that Alyx did, the more severe the penalties were when he screwed up as a tank. But if Alyx tried to block those attacks, his own armor would be rent, and when the hard part came, he wouldn't be able to survive pulling aggro. They would have to divide the burden. Alyx was frustrated by it, but it seemed that the best thing he could do is not tank the minions, and instead let the party split up to cut them down more quickly. At least that way, they could evenly suffer the defense reduction until the boss. Of course, he could potentially let Rota do all the fighting, and just turtle up, keeping the tank in perfect condition for the endgame, but that would mean that if Alyx couldn't cut it later, he would basically have forfeited Rota's life.
No. Optimally, their current path was best. Just have Alyx prepare to defend, but not worry about defending until they needed it. To that end, Alyx attempted in vain to flick the syrup from the end of his weapon, shifting his shield to prepare to assist Rota with thinning the herd, watching him brutally cleave on of the twitchers in twain. "You're not wrong, little one... It seems the storm has abated momentarily. Let us see what trouble we can get into." One of the bloated creatures had struck Rota and seemed to have taken the Demon a bit off his game. Alyx decided to focus on the closest monuments to sloth and let Rota deal with the remaining slight zombie, nimbler than Alyx as Rota was.

Just as soon as it was here, Rota could feel the flames enveloping the room fade back into obscurity. Thanks to Bakugami, he had another one of those in him, but he had no clue on how to replenish that supply. With artes, it was simple; beat things into a pulp. But this power source felt different than even Light. Out of all his resources, this was the most precious. Health could be returned, equipment damage could (begrudgingly) be repaired, and stamina could be withdrawn. This new thing? all bets were off. Not even Player knew what was going on with it. It had gotten he and Alyx this far, it would just have to wait longer for it to be unleashed on their penultimate recipient. Rota barely noticed the hits he took for a moment, before feeling ever so slightly gummed down. He croaked out a wild scoff as he looked to his second wiry victim.
Croire decided that the time for talk was done for the moment. She continued to remain by Sir Alexandeyr's side, so as to stay out of the wrath radius of her Master, but she now had much to think about. This was somewhat troubling, as there shouldn't be too much to think about in this case. Only her duty to be done, and her efficiency at doing it should be factors. Unbeknownst to her, some familiars are built to be ever so slightly more.

Alyx' blade pierced the body of the corpulent undead with an almost unnerving lack of resistance, as if its skin was drawn too taut to provide any defense, and its considerable size were just the result of rotted fat. It was an unwelcome sensation to plunge Gloomfang into the corpse, but at least, when Alyxandeyr drew the blade back, again, with little to no resistance, the blade was free of that disgusting, heavy syrup. The oversized undead fell to the earth and, while its weight might have been expected to shake the cave, instead, it landed and splashed. Its form turned into liquid as it landed, its skin unable to hold it together anymore. The Gloomking could have retched. He figured that the last zombie would be easy for Rota to deal with, and elected to take a moment to empower his shield, charging the reservoir of Light that had been placed into it.
He cupped his hand in front of his mouth and breathed a small stream of glowing white light into his palm, holding it gently and lowering it to the face of his shield. Upon touching the shield, the light flowed over it before coalescing into a standard of a glowing spider, beneath the ice, which diffused the light into a soft, pale light. He didn't know how much further they had, but he was going to take every chance he had to prepare when he could.

As Rota's mighty blade sank into his foe, he wondered if people in the outside world would ever know just what the sensation of this power was. The rush of invigorating energy as an enemy is decimated before one's self, as if their very essence begins driving you forward to greater heights, and betrays the former wielder of the energy taken. Even these thoughts did not adequately describe how it coursed through the channels of the body, ebbing through like a flooded river. It shoots from the tip of the fingers to the shoulders, and meets at the spine only for the feeling to simultaneously go up to the base of the skull, and down past the small of the back. That is where it stays for a while, pulsing gently in and out from there, the breath of power letting its new master know that it is there, begging to be used. As much as Rota continued to want to let loose, he could not do so just yet. They were just now getting back to where they once were. He could not let himself get over eager and risk needing to leave once again. That would NEVER happen again.
Rota took this building time to aim his blade directly at the remaining Zombie, its very existence offending him on a personal level. It would be a great addition to his stores of power, and he could not fight fast enough to unleash this hard fought power on the hag-b***h waiting for them at the end of this shittiest rainbow.
