Crossing her arms under her chest as the 'hostess' took her position at the center of the crowd, Stibnite felt her eyes narrow slowly. She was thinking, listening, being a visual sponge if one so dared to call her that. Amphitrite looked nervous. And then, something lit up her face.

It was interesting to watch, especially the motion to the one she refereed to as her 'sister'. Stibnite had to admit she was making mental notes to herself. If this one every went rouge, who to use against her.

But it was her last words that caused those red eyes to open wide and she shot her own look towards Leucite. Their General Queen gave her blessing on forming a team of corrupts? To be led by one who was 'reformed'? This did not sit well with the young agent.

Leucite's face did not betray any emotional response to the news, at least, not immediately. Slowly his jaw tightened, teeth grinding against each other as he forcibly fought with his mouth to keep from voicing his concern, to the point that he soon found himself physically biting his lip to keep from speaking.

This was not wise. Questionable at best for a voluntary convert to lead corrupted senshi in a team, absolute folly at worse. What was to stop Amphitrite from turning these corrupts against the Negaverse if she harbored any ill will toward it? What was to stop her from poisoning the only source of magic they had to combat the enemy's?

His eyes finally moved and met Stibnite's and he nodded his head in an affirmative. She was right to be concerned. This would require some watching - and since the General-Queen had sanctioned it... watching from the shadows.

He might have to step up his own actions then... Though he was hardly prepared...

Although Alkaid would have loved to speak with Amphitrite at length, she fell to silence the moment the senshi stepped back and began to address the crowd that had gathered at her beckoning. It was surreal to watch as one by one, the people gathered in the room fell to silence and allowed a corrupt to address them as an equal. Her mind leaped unbidden to old memories, to different faces standing in the same space they occupied now, and the way they had looked down upon her with disdain - or simply refused to see her at all.

Whether it was by personal opinion or forced social evolution, the times had changed.

The ascendant was torn between knowing that they needed chances to prove themselves, chances like this one, and knowing that they had all committed unimaginable sins against humanity - in this life, and times before. It was a hard line to walk, as a creature born of the same fragile, but blossoming faction, but also a being instilled with the knowledge that there was more to redemption than simply being reformed. She could only hope that they all found their path, eventually - and now Amphitrite, the corrupt she had found by chance in the dark of a Destiny City night, was a spearhead forging the way for them all.

Her eyes lingered on the seafoam senshi with a mixture of pride and curiosity, making her judgments and assumptions quietly to herself. As their eyes met briefly, the ascendant smiled and granted her a small, encouraging nod.

"If I may," she began, breaking the silence that followed Amphitrite's final words, "what are your goals with a team? We were once simply weapons, under the whim of soldiers as they saw fit. If you're to be in charge of your own will, how will you wield the power? Destruction?" A pause. "Reform? Recruitment?"

Her hands raised before her and spread with splayed fingers, leaving an open gap for Amphitrite to fill. Stating a goal, a dream, was one thing - knowing how to accomplish it was another entirely.

There was no chance that Amphitrite missed the exchange between Leucite and his pet of an agent, and in response, all she did was to smile. Try and stop me, she thought to herself, I have nothing to prove to you. You are nothing but brute force and prying hands. Look at what I have become. Even so, to look at him too long set her palms beginning to sweat, a sour taste seeping into the back of her throat.

It wasn't so easy to face one's nightmares with a smile. But she did so, unwaveringly.

Alkaid's gaze was much nicer to catch, and her smile broadened at her question, nodding as if to say 'by all means' when she really needed no permission from Amphitrite at all. "I'm happy you asked, General, " and that was no exaggeration. It was a good, reasonable question, and one that bought to the forefront many of her motivations for undertaking this at all. "I would say, in a sense, all of the above - allow me to explain - "

She looked to the crowd again. "Recently, as some of you may know, we undertook a mission aboard a train. Some of you - " Her gaze flashed to Valeria, Ywain, and Ochre in turn. " - were assigned alongside me in this mission. However, when things became dire and the mission went awry, we found ourselves scrambling - " She extended her arms outwards, brows furrowed. " - because none of us knew each other prior to that mission." Minus Ochre. "And as a result, none of us was familiar with each others' magic, and we were rendered ineffective as a result." Not to mention someone - Ochre - had gone running off the first chance he got. Bygones, Amphitrite, let it go.

"This is unacceptable. Situations like that are a liability, not only for our own well-being, but for the Negaverse as a whole." She smacked her knuckles lightly into the other palm as she spoke, for emphasis. "Not only that, but many of those who are converts, new to the Negaverse - we are rendered weak and vulnerable by the change. We are, in essence, newborn, whether because we are newly awakened or the process of corruption has taken its toll. How many corrupts have we lost because they were felt isolated, because they felt misunderstood, or simply because someone was there to whisper sickly sweet words at the right time? - not only is it unacceptable, but it's a tragedy. One so easily averted. If we stood united, if we supported each other, stood together, watched out for each other - " An unspoken promise there in the 'watch', a slight glint to her vibrant eyes. "Such things simply would not come to pass."

She held her hands up into the air as though relinquishing a point. "I am not suggesting that corrupts should abandon the posts they have come to man, mind you. I am not requesting, captains, generals, that you relinquish those you've come to value working alongside of you." Hopefully. "But senshi can come from all walks of life and still stand as a team when the time calls for it. Imagine. A network of corrupts that, in time, when you have need on a mission - you can find the corrupt whose magic best serves your agenda. You can know, because we will know, which of us work best together. Whose magic best compliments whose. More to the point - "

Amphitrite held her hands outwards then, palm up at her sides. "Not only will we know that, but we will mean something to each other. And tell me, who here can say they do not fight harder, feel better, when they stand beside people who mean something to them? - I do not intend to take on too much at once, " and she allowed her hands to fall limp at her sides. "A small team to start out comprised of several promising corrupts of my choosing. From there, if we are successful, I'd like to branch outwards - these corrupts at my side would go on to reach more, and then more, until we are all connected as we should be. For everyone's benefit. To put it more simply - "

She held up three fingers. "Reform: build a network, a camaraderie. Recruit: use that network to build our numbers for the benefit of the Negaverse. Destroy: the enemy."

Then, the corrupt smiled, clasping her hands behind her back in a way that may have seemed almost demure if not for the way she carried herself, tall and proud. "I welcome any other questions or feedback." Amphitrite was well aware that she was young, that she lacked some of the experience and foresight of those in attendance - but ambition? Yes. That she had in droves.

Quartz didn't look up from what he was doing, but he did snort very quietly to express his derision to the Mauvian and the corrupted dancer accompanying him.

"This is the most obnoxiously precious thing I've ever heard," he whispered to his companions. "Whatever you do, make sure you're not on that first team of 'promising corrupts' that Little Miss Thing is talking about. Anyone who doesn't get chosen is bound to resent the ones she picks, and anyone who does get chosen has to deal with the growing pains of her figuring s**t out as she goes." He shook his head. "Wait till the water's had a chance to warm up before you go dipping your toes in -- and don't paint a target on your back. Otherwise, you want to learn what your coworkers' powers are and impress people with how non-useless you are? March your ostrich a** down to the Records Room and open some files. It's not a magic trick."

Haymitch pouted; Iolite was getting all the attention and pets and he was so much cuter than she was! The kitten turned towards the other corrupt who came over and bounded over to nuzzle her leg.

"I'm Haymitch!" he said cheerfully, purring and nuzzling her. The kitten fell silent as Amphi became to speak again and sort of just flopped down on Chrysocolla's foot because MOAR PETS. Or because he was an attention stealing little s**t who wanted all the pets and no one else to get any. Maybe that was it.

(Fact: It was.)

A team huh? That could be cool. Would he be part of a team? Maybe he could run notes back and forth between units! That would be awesome, little Mail Runner Haymitch, bringing the latest from the front! Or something.

Jarosite chuckled to himself and shook his head. Being distrustful of your teammates sure got you places. Good way to start, really. Granted, it wasn't like he wasn't biased at all given his girlfriend, but there were times he wondered where the Negaverse got these recruits.

"They're not all bad, Stibnite; regardless of how they came to us, they're here now," he said quietly as Amphi gathered the group's attention. "Mistrust is unbecoming of the Negaverse; they're allies, and Amphitrite clearly wants to make them even more effective."

She wanted to form a team of corrupts, a true family, something the White Moon lacked. They lacked a lot of things - teamwork, a common goal, basic sense - and were less effective because of it. A team of corrupts would be a great asset to the Negaverse, to combat the White Moon.

He remembered the train incident, though the news that the corrupts had all but tripped over each other was new. He listened quietly, nodding here and there in agreement. Amphitrite's idea was sound, and made a whole lot of sense. Of course, whether it worked in practice or not remained to be seen, but if the General Soverign had given clearance, then it had a chance.

If only Albireo would have been there to see what Amphi was trying to do... maybe she'd see the Negaverse differently.

"Should you need help training your recruits, I'm willing to offer my assistance. No formal training, but they'll be able to defend themselves when their magic's run out," said Jarosite with a wave-ish of his hand. Always useful to know how to take someone out with your hands or feet.

Umber listened to her speech, expecting any manner of new proposition or mission or brave request of all who gathered there, and yet she chose simply to request a team. His gaze narrowed while he watched her, his arms folded over his chest, and he expected further response. At least Alkaid was willing to question the point of a team and its purpose. Likewise, she offered more glimpses into the old history of these recruits. Momentarily he looked to his brother, who he considered one of the likely examples for why they weren't trusted before.

Likewise he recognized the mention of the starseed operation, and all of the constituent problems therein. He himself knew several of them firsthand - along with the lack of trust to mission orders for those who considered themselves better tacticians than those who stood at the head of it all. He could not speak for Brimstone, but he knew that the remainder of those present were not completely innocent of the result - not even himself. Someone, he thought, should have known what would come of all those starseeds in a concentrated location. As a general, he expected better of himself; if ever he encountered a similar situation, he knew what to look for.

But Umber had his own questions for Amphitrite and her proposal. "The goals you mention can apply to a team of senshi, of a mix, and of agents. Why, then, do you choose Negaverse senshi specifically? What can you offer them that you cannot apply to agents?

"There is still a distinction between agents and senshi, which this choice of team reinforces. I am not asking that you include agents in your roster. I want to know why you think that only senshi belong on this team. I want to know why you are restricting this approach to senshi instead of trying to reform all of Negaverse networking." You're better than this, Amphitrite. Give me a reason. Don't feed the animosity.

"I also suggest that you build on the Negaverse database to include an index of Negaverse senshi and details on their magic. Having an index with a fixed location benefits more than trying to find a Negaverse senshi to ask."

His thousand yard stare transfixed on a singularity far beyond Iolite's fluff. Ochre heard the words, processed the gist of it - a team, he knew, but he doubted he would be allowed a part of it. Not for a long time. The people here, they expected corrupted senshi to pull their weight and not ask questions and prove themselves for far longer than he had before they could join any kind of team, maybe. But they expected more of corrupted senshi. He was sure he didn't hit the mark on that one.

He looked to the other kitty that camped out on Chrysocolla's foot and wondered if cats would be welcomed into the team. If they were, then it gave him something to aspire toward. He could work hard, and prove himself, and join a team because kitties. Maybe that was all he needed right now. Maybe he just needed kitties. All of the kitties. Wasn't there a cafe with kitties in it that opened recently? Maybe? He wasn't sure. But kitties.

"What do you think of the team?" Ochre resumed zoning out at Iolite, continuing to pet her while he waited for the idea of a team to come under fire.

"Like the stone... I would imagine." She mumbled, before starting to purr lightly. "Our brother, Tyrus, shares her pattern. He also shares her habit of dragging things around, usually a black and white scarf. Far more hyper though." It wasn't long before Iolite was inching closer to where the senshi was sitting before sprawling out in front of him all together.

"If you mean bonded, no. I am not. Though I lived with two. Mostly to irritate one of them... The other senshi... He was alright." Iolite almost completely missed Chrysocolla's approach. "Ah... Yes, Iolite." Huffed quietly, somewhat annoyed she had been distracted from Ochre's pets.

She turned from laying on her side, to loafing in front of the red haired corrupt, her tail twitching lazily. "I think a team could work. Though I suppose it's downside could be if the members on that team didn't get along in someway. Though, I wonder how some of the agents would take it... A few still think along the older ways don't they? They might think the corrupts are up to something."

She wished she could be as sure as Jarosite was when he spoke. Senshi had yet to win her over. White Moon were idiots and their so called corrupt...

Well that did not matter. Her own personal concern was quickly brought up by a general she had never seen before. It allowed her to remain quiet and watch. Cursed rank. Not that her voice would matter much.

The matter of the train was proof enough that things needed to be straightened out. People from both sides had panicked. She had watched others go for 'friend's when it came time to finally leave. This was not all for one and one for all.

So here was another means to create a divide. "You also add in another point if you are attempting to add the element of a team and not pull away from other posts." Stibnite found the words leaving her mouth as she eyed the senshi of shells. "Loyalty. When it comes down to in a matter of distress, like the train you remind us all of, and things must be done, you would put your chosen members in a divide. Are they loyal to their team or their commanding official?" She made sure not to say officer. That would be saying they were above the senshi..."Especially if you believe in one action and the other believes different."

It was all Leucite could do to hide his smile when Stibnite finally spoke up. Atta girl, asking the tough questions along with the General. Bring it home. Make her sweat it out and make things crystal clear. There could be absolutely nothing less than complete and utter transparency than this.

Frankly - he wished the General had stressed the need for Officers in this team. The Corrupts needed minders - or should have them. Leucite had started off as a Lieutenant all starry eyed and thinking that the corrupts were equals.

They were not. Not really. They were still technically the enemy. He saw that now. Even if they were converted - you still couldn't trust them completely. It was too easy for them to fall back into their old habits.

They needed an Officer on hand to ensure that they were kept on the proper path... Someone who could do the proper thing if a Corrupt tried to flee...

Too bad he'd probably never get that approved...

Still, he leaned over and whispered to Stibnite. "Good call there, Lieutenant."

Jarosite, for his part, earned a warm smile from the corrupt, along with a small nod of her head in thanks. If not for Umber speaking up when he had, she would have come into more detail about how beneficial those efforts would be.

Umber questioning her so harshly did not frighten or disappoint; rather, honestly, she had gotten some of her best ideas from just talking with him. The fact that he was here at all and interested enough to question was kind of flattery in itself, at least in her book. The other lieutenant, Leucite's little pet, was less so - her question did less to make Amphitrite sweat and more to both amuse and exasperate. In particular when she saw Leucite lean in and whisper to her. So desperate to try and cast a shadow of me, you b*****d?

Still. The corrupt was unruffled. "You are completely correct, General, in that the database needs expanding - I'll be sure to take that on as a project, if no one objects, " the thought of another undertaking thrilled her, really, "Officers should have ready access to their knowledge. But I maintain that when it comes to having such a database and developing a closer interpersonal bond, you'll find the second really does make a difference. Especially since having these bonds might ultimately be what keeps drifting senshi from purifying - which, given some prevailing attitudes towards us, " she was in no way referring to anyone specific in the room, "Some of us could frankly use all the support we can get."

Amphitrite's smile broadened. "My intention is to in no way drive a deeper rift between senshi and officer - after all, I myself was trained by officers, not corrupts like myself. That is why I invited both alike to come here today, for full disclosure. But officers and corrupts already work together, be it through GenOps and SpecOps or whatever division. Corrupts as a whole are a much smaller group than officers, and we are spread more sparsely among these divisions. - as a result, it's much easier for some of us to get lost among the shuffle. For example, for those who knew her - "

She gestured out to the crowd. "How long did Persephone go unaccounted for before anyone realized what became of her? - not to say officers are not prey to the same, but as I said, senshi are a much smaller group." And as a result, much easier to keep tabs on with a collaborated effort. Magic was a resource in the Negaverse, something that Amphitrite had quickly come to learn, and they couldn't afford to keep going on and losing it without consequence. "One more thread to tie us together, essentially - although - "

Amphitrite dipped her head to Umber. "I had not considered the ways that this approach might be used on a wider scale." She was ambitious, that was to be sure - but she was still a single super rank senshi, and to assume too much in her position might make or break her. Something she was also too aware of. "If you think there's a way we could effectively revamp all Negaverse networking with this tactic in mind, I'm not remotely opposed to that. Please - I'd really love to discuss it with you later and see where we can take it."

Her gaze fell back to Leucite's pet. "As for loyalty - no, there would be no divide. We all still serve Metallia and our commanding officers." Although really, Amphitrite was something of an anomaly in this; she had never been properly issued a commanding officer, bar Galena as caretaker, and bar Laurelite who had corrupted her by her own hand. She liked to think this was more because the general queen saw her potential and eagerness than any issue of being overlooked. "I have no interest in contradicting any commanding officers when we all serve the same goal. The only exceptions to this would be if we were to undertake a mission of my design, which would be fairly standard regardless, or if corrupts were sent to me with no commanding officer to begin with. Again, I am looking to tighten bonds and increase effectiveness and accountability, not to promote insubordination."

There was a very subtle curl of painted lips, a slight show of impatience and disgust as Quartz soft murmurings, one she turned easily into a demure smile as she lifted her head to look up at him, acknowledging his opinion. Was it pretension that had him assuming he could tell her what to do? Or was this a genuine concern for her well being and standing within the Negaverse. It was impossible to tell, and that was the only thing that had the petite dancer holding her tongue. You're word is not law with me, but a the buzz of a fly in my ear. So quickly her respect for the man had fallen when the illusion he maintained at the DCBC crumbled.

She bristled slightly at the term 'ostrich a**', smile freezing in place as shadow kissed lids fell in a long blink. Patience. Poise.

Drawing in a breath, the senshi returned her attention to the woman that had called this meeting, listening as she addressed the concerns pointed out by some of the agents that stood among them in the crowd. In Schorl's care and command, Ceraskia was more or less sheltered from any bias against corrupted senshi. She wasn't aware that it had been an issue, and hearing about it now had her lips pursed unhappily.

You're missing my point, Umber thought with exasperation. It isn't about how much better you come together when you have magic in common. It's about justifying to the officers who distrust Negaverse senshi that this team was formed with impeccable purpose. That you're not promoting segregation. That lieutenant has head enough on her shoulders to sense it too. This is not easy territory.

Umber sighed through his nose. "Persephone's shift to Dark Mirror went dark for so long because it was very carefully and very quietly executed. You've obviously read the database; you should be aware that General Schörl reported her behavior as alarming and in need of correction before she left our ranks. Do you think you would be able to circumvent another instance of this with a team? How do you expect to handle it?

"And lastly, by having a team of Negaverse senshi alone, you acknowledge that you are instituting segregation. This will breed animosity. You're hearing it already. How do you plan to diffuse that when officers are automatically barred entry into any kind of team with Negaverse senshi?" Umber frowned; he doubted Amphitrite as proper choice of leader from a political standpoint. Alkaid proved a far superior option for how deeply she served the Negaverse and how well she proved herself throughout her career. She could now stand among youma without fear, and was honored with equivalent title to those of his rank. She could diffuse any sort of animosity.

But Amphitrite? She was but a super senshi that came of the White Moon. She required a longer track record if she intended to be taken seriously in her efforts.

However... Umber knew that great benefit came with great risk. He would support her, surely, for if she could pull this through successfully... Perhaps she could lend an overall benefit to her fellow Negaverse senshi. He would, indeed, need to speak with her afterward.

"I request that Ascendant General Alkaid oversee your team if she has no objection. I believe that would satisfy both ends of the argument."

[ Haymitch ]

The intricacies of the play of power above his head was lost on Haymitch. He watched the parties banter back and forth, how Amphi wanted a team of just corrupted senshi, and the officers argue that it was mistrustful. He couldn't exactly figure out why. It didn't seem all that out of the question for the corrupted senshi to have a support group that fought along the Negaverse's ideals. It made perfect sense to Haymitch that this was a thing to happen. Why couldn't the Negaverse trust them? Because some of them had come from the White Moon?

Or he was just too new and young to really get the whole issue at hand.

That was probably it. 99.9% sure.

"I think it's a great idea! Bonding time! I can run letters for them when they gots to be sneaky! And why shouldn't they have bonding time? If others are lost just like Amphi said about Perseph-what's-it, then they should build com... comrad... um... FRIENDSHIPS! And strong bonds! And not loose another member of their family! I think it's silly the Negaverse doesn't trust them just cause some were corrupted in later. They're here now, aren't they? Seems mean to judge them based on past transgressions." The kitten answered Ocher after Iolite, rolling on the floor with his hat. Leave it to Haymitch to boil it down to simplicity.

[Mistress Morbid]

[ Jarosite ]

Jarosite regarded the other officers with a carefully masked annoyance. Of course some of them held onto the older ways, and thought just because Alkaid cracked herself into crystal and gave up her planet she was the best s**t since Metallia. One did not prove themselves by sacrificing their entire humanity. It was the deeds they'd done since corruption that defined them in his mind. He was biased - Albireo was originally a White Moon senshi - but he forced himself to see it from a crotchey old man suspicious stubborn old man from Umber's perspective.

And wondered where the General a) had come from, b) been trained by, and c) had been wrong by a corrupt to make him think such. Persephone's transition to the Dark Mirror court was a paultry example at best. She was still Chaos, just under Sailors Remarque and Leto's direct 'jurisdiction'.

"General Umber... if you're going to bring up people leaving the Negaverse to question Amphitrite's intentions and authority on the matter, I feel like you really shouldn't leave out the agents that leave us in droves for the White Moon as well. Neither of our groups are exactly good about making sure those of us with mixed feelings on the matter stay where they're put," he said calmly, stepping forward slightly. It was true. He had a girlfriend at home who was contemplating the very option. Quite a few others had already left the embrace of the Negaverse, of their own free will. It wasn't just a corrupted senshi problem.

"While I do not question your request of Alkaid to oversee her, I'd request you let Amphitrite prove her concept and methods work herself. She'll never prove anything if she's stuck under someone's thumb, or trying to hit moving goal posts." Jarosite had no qualms about speaking up; in terms of years in service, he was the senior general. Achievement wise was a toss up. He simply didn't see the need of an upstart general - who, did admittedly have a good point - to try to undermine Amphi's authority right off the bat.

That, though, was on Amphitrite to yeh or ney, and waited to see what she'd say.

Amphitrite did not appear ruffled. By poking more holes and putting more words into her mouth not uttered - she told herself that Umber surely meant well, that he surely had the best of intentions at heart. But privately, it was hard not to be a little disheartened when he was in that moment the greatest dissenting voice.

I'm putting too much stock into his words. Besides, I must think he's probably just saying what others are thinking. Still, it was nice to hear another general speak up on her behalf, even if she hardly needed it - this meeting as a whole had been a wonderful indicator as to which officers were more able and likely to support corrupts. That knowledge would be useful in the future.

Again, not that she thought Umber did not. She resisted the gut urge to assert that she did have Laurelite's direct approval for this venture, that this was something meant to be her's, and instead smiled. This was something she needed to be smart enough. However it came to be - she wouldn't exactly argue with working more closely with Alkaid in the future. "If she has no objection, then neither do I."
