Dash's ears twitched as she glanced over at Midnight. "Oh yeah..." she said thoughtfully. At some point while caring for the tot she had forgotten what the whole competition was for.
The fauny chuckled, "Can't imagine he wants any of us after that fiasco." She was referring, of course, to the kids. She didn't know for sure, but the various amounts of screaming she had heard told her that no one had done well at that task.
The idea was unreal to her, she didn't necessarily believe she was suited for the position, but maybe she just didn't know she was. It seemed that what this competition was here for, huh? She didn't really know that much about the chief anyways, he could be her perfect match,
Rainbow Dash laughed aloud at her thoughts before she got too carried away, those kids really had broke her brain.

At Midnight Strike's question, Fluttershy's cheeks turned bright pink and she could feel the heat rising to her fur. "Wife?!!?" she gasped, startled. She didn't remember hearing that word mentioned specifically at the start..or at least she didn't think so. Only something about winning his heart.....but well then she guessed it could lead to that. If Rais fell in love with the winner....would he marry them?
Would he love and marry her?
Shaking her head she had to agree with the Crystal Faunie. "Oh no no no no no I don't think I'm suited to win his heart let alone be his...wife." she said the last word almost in a whisper. She rubbed one shoulder with a hand and twisted the tip of a hoof into the dirt. She was so shy, so soft spoken. Her passion was animals and showing kindness where she could... not really 'Wife of the Chief' duties.
It did make her stop to wonder though. She had felt the summons. Why?

A pang of sadness hit Amadorine by surprise as she gave Jurek back to the nursery attendant. She bid the small faun goodbye, chuckling as the little one blew her a kiss and waved his pudgy little hand. Oh, that child would grow up to be quite the lady killer.
All of the contestants were gathered again after a few moments to be briefed again on their next task. Once more, Ama felt a sense of dread as she prepared herself for whatever would come: it had to get worse at some point, right? This felt all too easy.
And sure enough, this was another interview question. A frown came over Ama's face as she fidgeted a little. This was still just to easy feeling. Not easy like she felt she was smoking this exam, but easy like not rigorous: all of these competitions were interview or basic life skills. The only one that had been even close to the first time had been the mud wrestling.
A small frown came over her as she pursed her lips in thought. The question was simple enough, and some answers were more obvious than others. Laisidhiel, the Earth, loyalty, just to name a few. The question only asked for one response, though, and that was where she was being caught. And then the light shown in her head and she realized what her answer was going to be.
Giving a nod to one of the fauns that was returning from their own answer, Ama stepped out to where Krikit and Rais waited. She stood straight, hands clasped in front of her as she first looked at Kirit, then to Rais, then back to Krikit.
"To be honest, many answers came to mind in response to what I think the most important thing to the life of the Faun. There can only be one answer given though, and I believe that my answer will be Trust. As Faun, we need to trust Laisidhiel, and in turn those who serve her wishes. We trust the Cheiftan to keep us safe and in turn the Inner Circle and those close to him, and we trust that his decisions are for the best. We trust each other in the community to do their part to help keep us all strong and to come to our aid when we need help. Trust has the power to build the community together, and to tear it apart. It is essential to Faun life and for life in Laisidhiel."
She spoke calmly and clearly, and when she was finished she gave a smile to Krikit and a respective nod to the Cheiftan, then once again excused herself once more.
Upon returning, she noticed the familiar bright pink faun off to the side. Noticing that no one else was approaching her, Ama decided now was a good time. Walking up to Kishi, she placed a hand gently on the faunness' shoulder. "Hey, how are you holding up?"

"Well...Wasn't the last 'competition' like this..Didn't they become his wife? ...Maybe I'm wrong but...Then what's really the point of all this 'testing'? We were told this was a chance to win his heart." She shrugged. Maybe she was looking too far into this. "Whatever the point is this wild ride is really...Well it brings you down to earth doesn't it? I've never really thought about...Dating before...Finding some one else to be with...Sorta hits home...maybe I should start thinking about this." Would it be good for the twins?
Midnight couldn't help but laugh at Dash's comment. "Hey Dashie you want to babysit the twins for me so I can go man hunting later huh?" She nudged Rainbow Dash with a wink and huge grin.

(*Just posting a quickie with this one~*)
Mona sighed and waved the little tot off once the charges took them back. She then perked a bit at the question as she was asked it for the next round.
"I think it's safe to say that the tree would be the vital point of our existence. It's our shelter, our source of food, and it has a habit of communicating with us on dangers and the like as a means to protect us." she started with a simple nod.
"However, I feel as though the answer is far more complex. It's true that the tree itself is a very important monument and... possibly a sentient being of sorts, however I also feel like it's more so the faun themselves that empower the true focal point of faun existence. Our minds, bodies and even spirits help each and every one of us survive day to day among the rest of us. We rely on each other, just as much as we rely on Laisidhiel. Of course, I'm only saying this because after living on my own for some time without the shelter and food provided by the tree, I feel that we're perfectly capable of living without the tree if necessary. Though... Honestly, I hope it never has to come to that."
She was getting flustered and she showed it by flailing her hands a bit. "What I mean is, the importance alone is split 50/50. The tree being a solid half of the balance... while the faun as a whole make up the other half." she shrugged then smiled nervously. " Umm... Thank you for your time..." She half-whispered and bowed before slinking off.
"Way to stumble over your own words, Mona..." she grumbled to herself then rolled her eyes.

Kilot's face remained blank as he considered the question. It was an oversimplified question with an obvious response, The tree gave all Faun life, and provided them with all their needs. The tree was their home, their provider, their mother.
When he found himself in front of the Chieftain and Krikit, he spread his arms wide and said "Without doubt the single most important factor for the life of all Faun is our relationship with Laisidhiel. She gives us life, nourishment and shelter." He canted his head slightly. "Although I know a large number of Faun live far afield from her, Laisidhiel remains the source of the magic that sustains them."
Then he changed posture, holding a fist to his chest. "And we, in turn, are bound to protect her, care for her, and ensure that no harm comes to her or her children. We do not exist without her, and she is vulnerable without us. All of us, standing together." His mind drifted back to the terrible explosion that had so badly wounded the Tree not too long ago, and knew that even now outside forces conspired to destroy her.
For a moment Kilot's mind went from a bright, tipsy fog to one focused thought. A single faun was one of the strongest, toughest, most tenacious beings in Telrunya. All the tree's children standing together would be enough to protect the Tree and ensure their survival.
Once finished, he sought out Kyrie and plopped down nearby. "So I gotta ask. I kind of only half paid attention to what that Mellon's been saying. What exactly are we all competing for here?"

Amity may or may not have dropped her toddler when Kilot's yell broke the sounds of little whining and screaming. If it had happened, theoretically of course, it was just a little drop. And she picked him right back up right quick. Before any of the real caretakers noticed, of course.
If it had happened.
Which it may or may not have.
Regardless, the fauness was more-than-thrilled to have the painfully-pulling and loudly-whining little... thing... taken back away from her to go spend the rest of its afternoon tormenting the poor souls that pretended to enjoy what they were doing. She might not have thought a whole lot about having a kid, but this made her think real hard and real quick.
Adoption might be the way to go. Like... a kid. Not a baby.
Unless her baby would be a quiet baby. Quiet babies were okay.
Perking up, her thoughts returning from wherever they were drifting off two, Amity was reminded that she was, in fact, in a sort of competition that made her deal with tough faun, do tough things, and answer tough questions. Very tough indeed, much tougher than she had imagined it being (not that she'd really had much of an idea of what to expect).
Maybe she should have just gone back to bed this morning after all.
Lamentation aside, she was here now and she might as well put her all into it! Internally raising her hand, she willed herself to be more pumped up about it and to give it her best shot. Maybe not for being selected the winner of his 'heart' - she still thought that was a load of baloney- but at least not slacking off and giving up on the tasks. She could do this, she willed herself to think. Except...Krikit " The question is this. What do you believe is the one thing that is most important to the life of the Faun...and why?" What...?
What did that even mean?!
Walking away from the pair for a while, her brows furrowed together, tongue-in-cheek, and her arms crossed, the faunness mused over anything she thought might be even remotely relevant to the question. Unlike many of the others presenting themselves rather quickly and assuredly, she had never really thought about what it actually meant to be a faun.
She simply was and existed in that state.
Minutes passed by slowly, her thoughts haphazardly trying to collect themselves, before she figured that time was almost up. Regardless of the quality of the answer, she had to at least say something, right? Walking over towards Krikit (and the Cheiftain), her palms rubbed the outsides of her arms as she began to speak.
"For me... I think it is all of us that are most important to the faun - to each other..."
She paused as she tried to properly verbalize her ideas.
"Laisidhiel would go on even if I... if we... were to pass on... I think we would likely also continue even without her - the faunies did without their source of life by coming here. But for those of us here in the present, you and I and us all, there is only that: the now. Life is about our experiences, the feelings and our relationships we choose to create and destroy. The past cannot change in the now, and the future only reveals itself as the now."
"Were it not for the friendships I've built, the times of grieving and joy we've shared, I don't think I could say I was living. With sufficient supplies of food, water, and shelter, I would exist, yes, but would I truly be alive?"
"I don't think so."
"So I think we, the faun, are the most important to our living fulfilling lives and for continuing our legacy into a future I cannot even begin to imagine..." She trailed off, raising a hand to scratch the back of her curly head of hair and laugh hesitantly. She really wasn't so good with these philosophical sorts of things. It was too much for one of an average existence (by her own measure) such as her.
Bowing lightly, a single strand of sweat dripping down from her forehead to her chin, she brushed it off before returning to the group.
There, she sighed one heck-of-a sigh of relief. Spirits help her: no more hard questions!
Eyes looking about, she noticed that most of the others were joining groups of their own, talking, without her. Even the grumpy pants from the mud pit! For all that talk of relationships she'd just had, Amity didn't seem to be having much in the luck of forming new bonds at this moment. Shuffling over, she waved at a particular faun that seemed to be alone herself (for the moment anyways).
"Hard question, that one, wasn't it?" she asked Mona a small chuckling following afterwards.Seruta Striking up conversation with Mona

Mona nearly jumped. She wasn't expecting anyone to be milling around her for the time being. She quickly straightened up and smiled, however. "A little bit." she answered truthfully. She propped herself up against a wall as they waited for the rest to answer and for the new task to begin. "I'm Mona, by the way." she then started. "I'll have to apologize though. I... don't know many of the faun here just yet." It was a sheepish answer, but one still obviously true. "What can I call you?"

Amity took a small step backwards as she noticed Mona flinching, a small pang of guilt momentarily striking her for sneaking up on her. It dissipated immediately, however, at the sign of a smile.
"Don't worry about it; it makes me feel a lot better about not knowing yours, if nothing else. I'm Amity." A smile. "Nice to meet you Mona!" Hmm... Mona... That name, combined with her coloring, seemed somehow familiar, but she couldn't quite place it...
Oh well!
"How much longer do you suppose this will go on for?" she asked, her eyes flicking to catch a sideways glance of the mellon and Chieftain.Seruta I am 100% okay with that, lol.

Day 5 Prompt
The answers were varied once more, but some common themes ran thoughout. A few had answered Laisidhiel, and it was certainly a valid answer. However, only a few of those seemed to grasp the understanding of just how much they depended on the Tree. It wasn't just free food and shelter; their very lives were connected to the Tree's. And it wasn't a one-sided dependence. The military-minded hunter had raised a very good point. Laisidhiel sheltered and protected them...but they had to do the same for her. The shared pain and the way the Faun had rallied together after the recent attack had been proof of that.
Not that any of the other answers had been wrong either. There were no wrong answers. Loyalty. Trust. One another. Krikit had spoken true; it was not a question with any one answer.
Seeming to have come to some sort of terms with this whole endeavor, Rais turned a resigned look towards the Mellon. "Are you satisfied yet?"
"Not yet. Just one more thing."
***
The earth Mellon led the way, followed shortly by Chieftain Rais, then the others behind. She led them all to an area prepared for the final challenge: a long, clear pathway, lined on either side with fragrant grasses and floral arrangements. The foliage was piled at least ankle high on either side, but with plenty of room between for at least two Faun to stand abreast.
"If one were to stand at the Chieftain's side, then eyes would be constantly on you. One must be graceful, poised, and retain one's composure in all situations." She made a small motion to one side, signaling a couple of Mellons to start tapping out a lively rhythm on a pair of bongo drums. "Come on, ladies and gentleman! Show us your confident, elegant stride!"
She grinned widely, knowing how simple the task may seem. Of course, life was never that easy either. One had to be wary that anything could happen at any time. Best keep your cool in the face of adversity. Unheard by the contestants over the noise of the drums, several Mellons hidden in the foliage giggled with mirth, watching their targets and preparing to throw distractions their way...
***
Time to demonstrate your moves; strut your stuff down the catwalk! Roll 1-D10 die to determine the level of success your Faun has in their walk. Your goal is to impress the Chieftain with your confidence and poise! Of course, watch out for distractions. Those troublesome Mellons are just waiting to throw you off. Darn things, chucking tripping hazards into one's path and darting out and about in the air without warning to startle poor Pae...

Once again the group was lead to another area only this was..Odd..What was going on now? The bongos started to play as Midnight made a face. Well, it didn't seem THAT hard at least?
Midnight took a few tentative steps out on the walkway and that was when it all went wrong. A mellon darted out in front of her with a loud 'BOO' and Midnight screamed in shock. Her next step she nearly fell as she slipped on some water. A few more steps and she felt her hoove step into a rotten apple that had been rolled out in front. The smell caused her face to scrunch up in disgusted. She hadn't even gotten half way. Her only saving grace was she hadn't fallen flat on her face!
She was done. Before she managed to fool herself anymore she took a little hop and flapped her wings to take flight. She took the flight of shame back to the group, covering her face as she landed. She just wanted to go up to her bed and hide for the rest of the night.

"Amity!" Mona tested out the name and then nodded with a bright smile. "A very unique name! I like it!" she then offered with a giggle. Mona then shrugged as the group started to move. "I'm not sure. Hopefully not too much longer. I get the feeling that most of us would rather be doing something else than wooing the Chief." She started to frown a bit, but then quickly tried to correct her phrase. "Er, I mean. Most of the others seem rather terrified at the concept that they were summoned for these tests. I don't blame them, but I wouldn't want to subject them to too much more stress on the issue." She listened calmly to the next task at hand. Walking down an aisle? Sounded easy enough. "Good luck on this one..." she offered Amity before stepping forward. She watched as one faun moved ahead of her and start walking. Only then did the catch show itself. So. That's the challenge...? Pfft.... cakewalk... Sighing softly, she started forward down the aisle. She flinched a time or two to random jump scares and nearly stepped on a banana peel that was sneakily placed in front of her hoof. The cloven hoof squished on the peel, but before her full weight could be applied, she noticed and rocked backward. She frowned upon it a moment then picked it up. She turned to the melon and growled softly. "Do you want ants?" she asked, holding up the banana peel and shaking it in the Mellon's direction. "Cause this is how you get ants..." >/

Finally, a simple, easy challenge. She could walk down a 'runway' and back; that wasn't so hard, right?
So simple.
Moving to walk, everything started in Amity's favor. She wasn't the most captivating to watch as she moved, but it also wasn't horribly awkward. Very average. So average, in fact, that were it not for external circumstances, she likely would have ended up just being forgotten among the others.
The mellons had different plans for her, however.
Playing all-too-intensely (perhaps a result of their last 'victim' being such a success), the mellons prepared their most deviously devastating prank yet: a banana. Not just any banana, but a banana peel. Like some cliched comedy, they not-so-discretely tossed it up and in the center of the runway, expectant of the hilarity that would ensue. To ensure its success, they heckled Amity away from the sides and kept her attention preoccupied elsewhere.
They pulled only as her hoof plant itself on top of the peel. Sliding forward in an anything-but-graceful action, she proceeded to stumble a few steps before audibly slamming into the ground before her.
Face first.
Seconds seemed to drag on before the faunness was able to sit herself back up, a noticeable bruise already forming on her forehead and a few tears running down her cheeks out of pain and embarrassment. Shakily getting up, she didn't even bother to finish her walk and turned back around and past the group.
It wasn't long before a mellon appeared with a comically-large bandage to cover the bruise and then return to the fun of tripping others up.
Literally.

Amadorine bristled at the voice of Krikit, finding that her anxiety was being triggered by each new task as she just waited for the other shoe to drop. She gave a hesitant look to Kishi, having just approached her before they were being pulled off to yet another task. She hoped that when they were done, the other faunness and her would be able to talk.
A twitch pulled at Ama's mouth as she held back a stunned smirk. Really? This was the task? Well, she could at least do confident, she was chalk full of confident after all! She watched as a few of the other competitors left for walking down the path. Then it was her turn.
She took a deep breath, rolled her shoulders back and pushed her chest out, then let the breath out and raised her chin up. Every ounce of pride she had, she pushed out into her attitude, and her hoof stepped onto the first section of the pathway. Relax, breath, keep your head level, you are already closer to the finish than from where you began. Those same thoughts repeated through her head in time with the beats from he drums.
The first object flew past her, and it took every ounce of will not to have her head snap in it's direction to see what it was (though she was pretty sure it was a walnut?). A second and third object whistled past her as well, and while Ama clutched her fists a little she made sure not to move. She was getting so close to being done, carefully stepping over any tripping traps and avoiding slipping hazards. All was well and she was steps away from finishing.
A large sploosh of ice cold water crashed down upon her head, soaking her thoroughly right where she stood. Ama froze for a moment, her face scrunched up as she gritted her teeth, a weird sound coming from her as she held back the scream of surprise and OMGCOLD. Slowly, she reached up and wiped away the water from her face, her fur on end and her body shaking a little because that was freakin' cold! After another moment to collect herself, she lifted her head and continued the last few steps, still keeping her chin held high.
Once her part was done, though, that wall came crashing down. "Son of a donkey! That's freezing!" She gasped out, rubbing her arms to try to warm up as water dripped into small puddles around her.

Kyrie looked at Kilot, wide-eyed, and then had to stifle a snorting giggle with her hand so as not to disrupt the contemplative mood of the moment. "We're competing for Chieftain Rais. Like, to win his heart, become his wife. Well, or husband, I suppose." She couldn't wait to see Kilot's reaction to the point of the games.Kyrie practically bounced over to the next challenge. She couldn't wait to saunter down the aisle, modeling for the Chief. She blushed a little as she thought about his eyes on her, with no distractions. Sheesh, she had it bad!
Something struck her as odd, though, as she stood in line, waiting her turn on the promenade. The girls were tripping, getting distracted, and she's sure she heard at least one shriek. What was going on? She couldn't see well enough to know what exactly was happening, but she decided to keep a sharp eye out when it was her turn.
When that time came, she shook her hair out and held her head high and began to walk. She imagined herself as a great and beloved ruler, walking through a crowd that parted for her. She kept her expression neutral, her arms at her sides, and her chin up. Although this prevented her from seeing the little ribbon the Mellons were holding across the walkway, and she walked right into it and tripped.
Kyrie gasped and almost let a curse pass her lips, but she turned it into sort of a frustrated hissing noise at the last second. She landed on her hands and knees and took half a second to figure out what just happened before popping back up, a tiny smile pasted on her face. She regained her composure rather quickly and kept walking, but did keep a wary eye on the ground for more shenanigans. She calmly stepped over the next obstacle, but unfortunately didn't see the airborne Mellons who dumped tiny buckets of dust on her head!
Her reaction this time was immediate. She waved the Mellons away emphatically, resenting a little their tiny giggles. The damage was done, however, and now she'd be sneezing for the rest of the day. She tried to hold it in--the end of the promenade was near!--but right at the end her composure was broken as she sneezed (rather loudly), ejecting a cloud of dust from her hair. Which only made her sneeze again.
Kyrie smiled apologetically at Rais and his chief fairy, her face beginning to look puffy and red. She made a miserable little bow for them, then headed for the fountains again to try and clean up. At least she hadn't shrieked.
