 Derrick MathisDerrick shook his head. It wouldn't be odd, though he'd ask who Kai was since he didn't know his voice. He wouldn't freak out or anything. "All he'll likely do is just ask who you are. Tell him the truth or keep it a secret; I don't think it would at all surprise him either way." Derrick waited until Kai left before he removed his shirt and laid down, covering up. He usually didn't sleep with a blanket, but since Kai was around and he may end up waking him....He wanted to be careful. About half an hour after falling asleep, Derrick woke up briefly when the phone rang. But, he ended up falling right back to sleep, being comfortable and tired. He did sort of try to grab the phone on the night stand, but gave up halfway and turned back onto his side and covered his head with a pillow in an attempt to block out the ringing.

 As soon as the phone rang Kai went to answer it. It turned out to be Alvin. At first Kai was a bit nervous on what he should say to the other teen before he spoke. "Um... your father is sleeping at the moment. Oh, Im Kai... Uh your father helped me out of a situation and Im staying here for a few days." He said looking to the floor not sure what he should be saying. "Would you like me to wake Derrick up?"

Derrick MathisAlvin blinked when an unknown voice answered the voice, telling him where his dad was and what happened. "He's asleep? That's unusual." Being sick was about the only time his dad slept out of routine. Otherwise, he was devoted to his work and many treasures. And, Alvin, of course. "If he's sleeping, then I'll call back again tomorrow. I don't have a lot of time to chat like I usually do. I was just going to ask how he was doing and if he signed my permission forms. Um....Kai, right? Dad's not sick, is he?"

"Your father is fine. I found him sleeping in the office and told him to go to bed." He said blushing at the information Alvin gave him. He wondered why Derrick changed his routine because he was there. "I don't know if he signed any papers, but I can always have him call you when he wakes? I am sorry Im not of more help to you Alvin, if I knew more I would tell you." Kai had been moving towards Derrick's room and figured that if the man was awake he could hand the phone off. He did hear movement, but it didn't seem that Derrick really wanted to wake up. He was a bit torn now. He had told Derrick he would wake him, but at the same time he didn't want to go against Alvin. Perhaps he could just ask the question Alvin wanted answered? Knocking gently on the door, Kai tentatively poked his head in. "Derrick? Alvin is on the phone, he wants to know if you signed some forms for him."

Derrick MathisDerrick's eyes opened halfway as he heard Kai talk to him. His question took a minute or two to register before he sat up quickly. Alvin? Rubbed his chin, Derrick thought for a moment on whether he signed the forms or not before nodding. "I signed some of them, yes. They should be there in a few days." The brunette man held his hand out, clearly expecting the phone, unaware of Alvin's wish to let him sleep.

Kai slipped into the room when he saw that Derrick was holding out his hand for the phone. As he passed the phone off he noticed that the other was shirtless. He turned away then not looking at the older man, figuring it wasn't appropriate for him to be looking at the other just then. He didn't exactly go against Alvin's wishes, since Derrick was already awake, but he could have waited until the man woke up officially.

Derrick MathisDerrick thanked Kai for the phone before yawning. "Alfred?" "Hey, Dad....I didn't want to wake you. I mean, I don't have a lot of time to talk, and you were asleep, so...." "You...sound like you're hiding something." Alvin made a sort of cough, showing he was about to tell a lie. "Alfred Mathis, don't lie. What's going on?" "...I'm just, uh....My friends invited me to a party, so....No alcohol and it has adult supervision, so it's safe." Derrick groaned and laid back on the bed. He really didn't want Alvin going to a party. But, he...couldn't stop him. As long as he was careful. "Alright. Just....Please, stay safe." "I know, and I will be. Love you. Talk to you when I get back." The call ended and Derrick hung up, rubbing his face in worry. What if something went wrong? Alvin could be hurt or drugged or...or....

Kai didn't mean to listen to the conversation, but it was difficult when you had vampire hearing. It seemed that Derrick was worried about his son, and he wished there was something he could do. "He sounds like a smart guy, and Im sure you taught him how to be careful." Kai carefully moved closer and put his hand on the other's shoulder offering a smile. "Im sue he will be fine." Besides, if something did happen, Kai would help find the teen, or try to help get the other back. While he wasn't as good of a tracker as his father was, he still could do some things.

Derrick MathisDerrick looked at Kai and nodded. "I know. Alvin's a smart kid. Resourceful, careful....I just worry." Derrick laid down again, tired but not willing to go asleep again. "Did you eat?"

Kai listened to Derrick and nodded. "As any father would about their child. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but he is growing up and has to do things on his own. That includes going out and meeting other people, doing things that you might not like. Its normal for you or any parent to worry about their child, but you have done really well with him so he wont be doing anything too dangerous right?" The vampire mix gave a small smile to try and comfort the man before he nodded again. "I just finished when the phone rang. Dinner was really good and I asked for the recipe so I could make it myself sometime." ((Gah, I want to have Kai curl up in bed with Derrick. completely innocent of course. just to give the man comfort or something. >.<))

Derrick MathisDerrick sighed a bit. He knew that, but it was a reality no parent wanted to face. Still, he knew Alvin would be careful and avoid anything stupid. "No, he's smart and knows how to avoid trouble. I trust him. Just...not the people around him. It's no secret he's the son of a wealthy and successful businessman." Derrick looked at Kai before he shook his head. "I wonder if it's inhumane to talk about my worries when your parents are going through so much worse than me."the gothic beauty 2 Do it. >w< He will feel so awkward for a few minutes, but then just react naturally.

the gothic beauty 2 "Well they also know you would find them if they did anything to Alvin right?" He asked trying to put the man at ease. Without really thinking about it Kai curled up next to Derrick wanting to comfort him in some way. "My parents will be fine. I spoke to them so they know I'm okay. It's not inhuman of you to worry about your child or to talk about it."

Derrick MathisYes, they knew, but Derrick would rather hand over his fortune than risk anything happening to Alvin because of a threat. Kai suddenly crawled in next to him and cuddled next to him. He tensed for a minute or two before relaxing and instinctively playing with his hair. "True, but I still feel cruel. Anyway, the cook gave you his recipe? Ha....Reminds me of how he flat out refused when I asked. But, I am an awful chef...."

the gothic beauty 2 Kai felt the man tense up and was about to get out of the bed but stopped when Derrick started to play with his hair. He wasn't sure if that was a normal reaction to the situation or not but he rather liked the feeling. "Well you don't need to feel cruel about it. If you were cruel you wouldn't have let me call at all." He said softly before nodding. "Yep he did. Maybe we can surprise him when I teach you how to cook!"

Derrick MathisDerrick thought. It'd be nice to surprise the man. "Maybe. His expression would be great." Derrick chuckled before he leaned his head back on the headboard. "So, what do you want to do, Kai?"
