Otto whined a No. No, he was not ready. He was happily full, had his cake and all. But the hot sun plus dragging all this stuff? Just think happy thoughts... happy thoughts...

"Okay, okay." He breathed in, bouncing once, twice on his toes to get motivated. "Let's do this s**t."

So out went the pair and the cart. Straight into the great wall of heat. Still, at least there was the breeze. "Awwwww ******** this is gross!"

It was like walking into a sauna, and not the pleasant kind.

"Hot," Chance groaned, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. He quickened his steps, ignoring the fact that they probably looked ridiculous with their cart full of things, practically running away from Ikea. He could see the alleyway where the portal was just up ahead, and Chance tugged on Otto's shirtsleeve.

"Almost there," he grunted. "Little farther...just think of air conditioning..."

"Not just AC... a cold shower, man. Or a pool. Or even that ********' monster infested ocean." Yeah, he'd risk sand in his pants and a tentacle monster for some cold water. After what felt like running a marathon, they were through.

They were given odd looks by the guard on duty. "Ew.. its still hot here too... Friiiiig!" Right, now to leave the desk and mirror inside the lighthouse. No way was he carrying it back to the main base. The walk there was insane.

"It'll be better once we're indoors," said Chance consolingly, though the island itself was almost worse, no breeze and higher humidity. He loaded himself with bags, slung the rug over his shoulder, and took a breath, glancing over at Otto.

"Almost there," he said lightly, and started walking quickly towards the dormitory building.

Otto felt very whiny the hotter it was. As such, it was with great satisfaction he quickly used his new markers to draw a small d**k on Chel's mirror. Smug with his deed, he was soon slugging some bags in hand and following Chance.

The walk was long, and he was too hot and irritable to do much small talk. Once inside the building, it took all of his willpower not to flop down on the cold floor and die.

Chance may or may not have added his own renditions of dicks on the mirror as well before they skedaddled, the heat rolling over them in disgustingly thick waves. After what seemed like an eternity, however, they were finally, mercifully inside.

"Come on," Chance wheezed out breathlessly. "One flight of stairs, down a little bit, and we'll be at my room."

He pushed open the stairwell door and dragged himself up the steps one at a time, arms feeling heavy from the sheer weight of everything he was carrying. Chance had never thought carrying pillows could be so exhausting, and when they finally made it to his room, he all but kicked open the door and literally fell inside.

Chance dropped everything (gently) onto the floor and slid down to follow, sitting back against the wall and breathing heavily.

"I'm never going outside again."

Once he'd set things down, Otto became a puddle in front of Chance, his body splayed out like a star fish. "I'm done. Dead. Goodbye world..."

He sat there for several more minutes, waiting for his temperature to return to a more reasonable temperature. It took a while; Chance wasn't actually certain how long the two of them stayed there in exactly the same position, but sometime later he blinked back into focus, feeling much better than he had.

He stretched out a toe and poked at Otto's shoulder.

"Alive again yet?"

"Mmph.." Otto grunted in response. He slowly slid his limbs enough to flop onto his back. "Yeah, more 'r less." He drawled with a huff. How the temperature could turn him into jelly was astounding. "You?" He asked, his gaze hazily picking out the stars on the ceiling.

Soon this room would be fantastic. He just... needed.. to be not dead.

"Alive, not quite as jello-legged as you," said Chance with a little laugh. "I don't quite mind the heat as much, but it was still ******** awful out there." He made a face. "Kinda like walking through a hot water bottle or something."

He pushed himself up a little onto his hands and knees, crawled over to Otto, leaned down, and pecked a quick kiss to his lips before getting to his feet and stretching.

"Okay, first things first," Chance mused, leaving Otto to take his time moving and plucking up one of the bags. "Blanket, then pillows..."

The kiss was almost like a kiss of life, making all the turmoil worth it. He silently watched Chance start to move about. He supposed he was feeling up to helping now. Maybe a little. He stretched out noisily, finally getting himself standing again.

"I can help with the other stuff too.." He murmured, sifting through the bags. It would be done in no time.

He cast a smile over his shoulder at Otto.

"Wanna get the rug down?" Chance asked, as he shook out the blanket and spread it over the bed. The pillows followed, Chance tugging off the price tags and tossing them into the trash. The picture frames were set temporarily on the desk, since he wasn't quite sure what he was going to put in them yet, and then the cat plush was set on the bed amongst all the pillows.

"Should I hang the star lights on the window, or over the closet, do you think?"

"Hmm... the window already gets light... so closet? Or maybe over the bed or somethin'.." He wasn't sure. he supposed trial and error would work.

In the meantime, Otto was setting down the simple rug.

He tested the lights over the closet first, stepped back, and scrutinized them.

"Maybe over the bed," said Chance, and made his way back over, this time tacking them up over the head of the bed so that they fell down in glittering, glowing stars above his pillows.

"There we go," he said with satisfaction, and glanced happily around the room.

"What do you think?"

Otto gave him a smile. "Looks great, man. How's it look to you?" Surely the dolt had to enjoy this much better than a blank canvas staring him in the face.

The room was starting to really scream Chance.
