Now that he was done it was time for his own reward.
He found a white-sanded beach with clear skies back on earth. Joggers and dogs and people who could afford to relax dotted the coast.

He returned to a chaotic, rockier beach this time. It was easy to figure out what souls he'd be capturing: it'd be the daring ones, that launched themselves off rocks.
Or, he supposed, the ones that just slipped. He took the soul into his arms carefully and headed away...

A soul needed to turn up, though. Humans here were smart and careful, and that was why Hachi liked them - but he wanted someone who was brave, and who lived with their whole heart hanging in the balance - the Vocivus needed someone like them.

No, he had to go searching, too: he couldn't just enjoy the scenery. He flew out over the ocean to look toward the beach instead: perhaps this might be a better strategy.
