AIM rp, Caj and Talencia
The long-legged mare was like a dryad, dancing in the moonlit meadow on light hooves. Her father never told her how he had once tried to dance and failed miserably, but she seemed drawn to this self-expression even more than he had been. It seemed to flow out of her as she paused to rear, forehooves striking out to a rhythm only she heard, though a soft tune floated on the breeze occasionally as the music escaped her. She was completely oblivious to all that was around her, save the level plane of grass and the stars and moon swirling above.
The moonlight was a beautiful thing; not only for its own subtle beauty, but also for the way it emphasized everything else. Every tree, every rock, every blade of grass stood out in stark illumination against the dark shadows they cast behind them, creating a landscape of dreamlike proportions. Through this, the tall, silent form of Antony was strolling, the bright moonlight throwing into stark contrast the large batlike wings that sprang from his shoulders. His head was lifted slightly towards the sky, allowing the light to pour down his face and cast a bright light on his pale eyes. However, in the course of his walking he paused, hearing the soft thuds of hoofbeats against the meadow. So someone else was out walking, eh? He could do with a bit of company, assuming it wasn't another twit. Shaking his head in dismissal of the thought, he started off towards the hoofbeats.
She spun on a hind hoof, plain red-brown mane and tail flowing darkly against her paler hide in the wash of moonlight as she did. Her forehooves came back to the ground, and she arched her neck, setting off at a trot, only moving at an angle across the meadow grass. She enjoyed the solid sounds of her hooves striking earth precisely.
With this in mind, she paused in place, halting her forward motion, though her hoofbeats kept up the same rhythm, as she listened joyfully to the predictable sound. Her desire satisfied, she broke from her spot and began a rocking canter around the outer edge of the meadow. Her eyes were nearly closed, reveling in her internal song. She knew this meadow well, every rock and uneven place, for she came here often to dance her feelings in private. So far, none had come across her in the process of this diary of motion. It never occured to her that would ever change.
But change it did, and in short order. After a short bit of walking, Antony smiled as the hoofbeats got louder, indicating that he was getting closer to the walker. Just as that thought was crossing his mind, he was stepping out into the meadow, just in time to see the mare...pass by? Pass was probably the best way to put it; he honestly couldn't think of any way to describe the moves she was making, never having seen anyone dance before in his life. One eyebrow arched slightly, but in curiousity more than anything. What was she doing?
Her smooth canter carried her twice around her meadow before she broke the pattern and headed straight up the middle, where she suddenly leapt for the sky, head thrown back and mane streaming. Her hind legs kicked out behind her, and she was flying without wings! She seemed to hover in the air for a breathless moment, before gracefully alighting on the ground again with nary an indication of having been forced to return. Instead, she gathered herself in a few strides and leapt once more, though this time it was without the dramatic pause in mid-air. Upon landing she slowed and rose again on her hind legs, eyes fully closed and face turned to the starry sky. For the space of a dozen heartbeats, she held so still, only the breeze moved her mane in a gentle caress.
Almost too suddenly, all four hooves were on the grass again, and she was snorting and blowing lightly, broken from her own spell by the conclusion of her inner thoughts. Dancing was done for the night, and it left her with an odd mixture of refreshment and comfortable weariness. With a deep breath, she began to graze at a leisurely rate, as if nothing unusual had taken place.

Guilian: Actions and Reflections. It was strange how time flew. One moment you were a foal, staggering around without a care in the world; the next, you were a proud young stallion, reaching physically and mentally in your prime. Mistakes were made, techniques were developed; experience, the harshest yet truest of teachers, drummed its lessons into your head... And then, quite suddenly, you were an adult; not an adult in the physical sense, for that you had been long before. But an adult in the true sense, the real sense; able to take responsibility for your own actions and acquit yourself in a way that you won't be ashamed of. Then again, it was doubtful that Guilian had ever been ashamed of anything in his life. That didn't mean that he couldn't reflect on the concept, merely that he had never felt that way himself. However, that didn't mean he couldn't have an epiphany. It was a bright and glorious day, the sort of day that made one happy simply to experience. The sun had long sicne passed its zenith and was now heading earthwards, yet hadn't yet started changing the color of the sky. On a usual day, this was the time when Guilian would normally be most active in the quest for company; the night could be long and cold, to say nothing of dull, if one was lacking the proper company. Yet today, he was content to keep company with naught but his own thoughts. He'd be searching out a mare tomorrow, perhaps, but for now, he had enough to occupy his time. The reason? Well, that was a bit more complicated... Finding out he was going to become a father had been one of the biggest shocks of Guilian's life. While he'd never actually doubted his virility, he'd been with enough mares over a LONG period of time to have safely assumed that either he was flat-out sterile or, more likely, just knew how to control himself. Finding out that he'd fathered foals with, of all mares, a somewhat unbalanced and violent kalona? That hadn't really been a thought when he'd set out seducing the mare. But successful he'd been, in more ways than one. Izusa hadn't been thrilled to be pregnant, hadn't been thrilled with him for making her such...but she'd come to love their three foals. As had Guilian. Having lived for himself, directly or indirectly, for so long had ill-prepared him for the arrival of his children, yet they had delighted him when they finally arrived. Nicholi, the eldest, who Guilian called Nicky, was a true cross of his parents. He had his mother's glimmering metallic coat, her tendril-lined tail, her trio of horns; but at the same time, he sported his father's feathered wings, solid hooves, and even teeth. Nicky also had a smile identical to his father's, the devil-may-care grin that had always stood Guilian in such good stead... Antony, the second foal, was another true combination. Tony, as Guilian called his younger son, had no horns and Guilian's tail; however, instead of feathered wings he bore large, leathery kalona wings that were studded with spikes. Tony also bore the sharp teeth of the kalona, teeth that could even be called fangs...yet one only ever saw them bared in a grin. Neve, the youngest and Guilian's only daughter, had her mother's fangs and cloven hooves, yet otherwise was strikingly similar to her father in looks. Red fur, feathered wings, curly hair...she was his baby girl, and he adored her. Guilian couldn't say that he regretted his children. Not a day went by that he didn't find himself regarding them proudly, a rush of confidence in THEM that was unlike anything he'd ever felt before. But that didn't mean he couldn't hate things about them, though. Rather, things that made them suffer and hurt as children. It was no fault of theirs that their mother was a kalona, yet such had been a stigma for all three foals when they were young, especially the boys who bore the most dramatic kalona traits. While Guilian understood the desire of parents who only wanted to keep their kids safe, he'd witnessed and heard too much predjudice, soothed too many tears as he tried to answer tearful questions of what was wrong with being so different. It wasn't fair that they were forced to endure such hardship; his own decision to consort with a kalona had become an unimaginable torment for them that he most desired to protect. However, he'd never believed in lying to anyone, and he didn't start with his children. Frankly, he'd told them of the dangers posed by kalonas in general, but also of the potential of their being kalonas that broke the mold, such as his best friend Ariston and, to a lesser degree, their own mother. The uniqueness of their mother...therein lay the crux of the matter, and the subject that was most on Guilian's mind this sunny day. Izusa had known his game from the very start. She knew what he was after, known that he was a rake, known he wasn't the committing type. She'd known he was different, known he wasn't "her kind"...yet she had been an innocent mare, isolated from the company of all others, and something about him had spoken to her. She had returned his attentions...and gotten pregnant. But with that pregnancy there seemed to have arisen new emotion, new desires. Suddenly she wanted him around all the time, wanted him to cut off his consorting with all mares that weren't her and basically remain celibate until she'd delivered the foals. Not very likely, he'd told her...but she'd still been a picture of fury when she encountered proof positive that he wasn't being loyal. That had resulted in the first time Guilian ever lost his temper with ANYONE, especially a mare, and the two had reached an understanding...sort of. Guilian had learned the secret of total circumspection, nothing more; now, he kept his liasons at a safe distance. Then the foals had been born, and she'd wanted him to stay with her full-time. Nope. He was an active caregiver for the foals, of course; he'd come by every day with food and stories for the foals, then when they were older he'd started bringing one or two of them along with him on his wanderings. Izusa didn't care for that, but she preferred it to Guilian being off on his own, since she knew that it was highly unlikely he'd actually BE alone. But he managed to prevail, allowing his kids more freedom when they were with him than they had with their occassionaly paranoid mother. He'd also taken advantage of having the kids with him to introduce them to his lifestyle; they'd met his "friends" and seen him flirt, learned frankly about sex, Soquili relations, and the unique elements of their parent's relationship. All three kids had learned early on an important lesson...don't tell Mama. However, there were slip ups; Guilian had more than once been on the receiving end of a VERY nasty verbal or physical lashing out on the part of Izusa, which had occassionally provoked him as well. But he endured. Now, though... Now, the kids were all grown. Antony and Nicholi both stood over a hand taller than Guilian himself, and Neve was a dainty and graceful adult. All three were capable of making their own choices, living their own lives; they didn't need to be looked out for anymore. And that meant...he was free.

Antony: On the trail Footfalls; the gentle sound of hooves thudding against the packed dirt of the firest trail. While there was no guarantee that the walker was known to him, Antony had a positive feeling about this one. If only he weren’t upwind of the walker, he’d have an even BETTER idea of whether or not his hunch was correct; but as it was, he was confident that that hunch was all he needed. A slightly smug smile, one born of confidence and the strong belief in his own correctness, crossed the stallion’s face. As he picked up his pace to close the distance between himself and the mystery walker, Antony narrowed his eyes slightly, attempting to peer through the trees. Damn path wound all over the place, first veering left and than right, so he honestly had no idea how close to his quarry he was ‘as the path wound.’ Now, if he was acually a HURRY, he’d likely just cut through the trees. However, his wings had always had an unfortunate habit of getting snagged in greenery; ever since he was a foal he’d had to take extra pains to avoid getting caught in tree branches. After all, who wanted to have their siblings see them dangling like an unplucked fruit by their spikes? He’d been the only one of his siblings to inherit the leathery spiked wings of the kalona, which he’d always thought were really cool and consequently made him special…but they had their negatives. Like getting snagged in things. That was why he was merely trotting along, moving swiftly but lightly along the path as it wound through the woods. Leave the dashes through woods for the foals and those without wings to snag; he’d just do this in his own way. However, his way seemed to have a flaw. As he went around a wide oak, the pale stallion suddenly paused, then frowned. The hoofbeats he’d been following had vanished, seemingly without a trace! “You are SO kidding me. No one’s going to try to fly out through THIS, not unless they want to get hung up by the wing joints!” Glancing upwards, Tony gave the encircling canopy of the woods a measuring look, trying to determine if even a smaller wind would be able to get past the branches. After only a few moments of looking, though, he knew that such wasn’t the case. Looking ahead of him down the path, Tony huffed slightly, both at his quarry’s sneakiness and his own lack of skill in catching up to it. What did it say about HIM if he could lose track of his purpose so fast? Damned if he wasn’t becoming complacent in his old age…or something like that. Grinning, he shook that idea off; he wasn’t old, after all, but a stallion in the flower of his youth. He just happened to be on the trail of a wily one. “Be that as it may, I’ll get you yet.” With that, he was off and running, a pale ghostly streak dashing down the forest path. “You can run, but you can’t hide…Dad.”

Safi: Contemplation Being a father was a wonderful thing. You got to play an important role in the developement of young minds, instill your values in another generation and generally do your part to keep the species going. Granted, that last part was easier to do (or at least made more sense) if one went about one's parenting in the traditional way, with a stallion meeting a mare and getting frisky and dealing with the resulting children as the by-product of intimate relations by which both the parents were honor-bound as well as linked by DNA to raise in a suitably admirable and honorable fashion... But he digressed. Even in his thoughts, he digressed. Chuckling to himself, Safi picked his way along the narrow mountain path. Rocky and unappealing as the terrain was, there was something about being alone amidst the crags that really allowed him to think, something that he'd been doing a lot more of lately. This high in the mountains, there weren't that many other Soquilis about; the strong winds meant that most wingless types weren't going to risk the long fall, and apparently many WITH wings would rather take their chances in more hospitable regions. For the most part, Safi was in agreement with those other Soquili. After all, he was a social creature and had always been such. There was his brother to talk to, his neice to counsel, his nephew to harrangue, his daughter to tease, his son to try to keep upright, and his otherwise wide array of social contacts to natter with and get the latest gossip from...but sometimes, in spite of that (or maybe because of that) he liked a little time to himself. Granted, the mountains weren't always his own provate meditation zone. During one of his more recent excursions, he'd come acorss another wind stallion who seemed to be doing just what he himself liked to do up here; think. Smiling slightly, Safi thought back to that meeting, remembering how nervous and young that stallion had seemed, asking him for advice and basically posing those serious sort of questions that one expects to hear from youngsters... That had been a strange thing for Safi, though. He had never felt 'old' and still didn't feel 'old,' but having two adult children seemed to change his perspective a little bit. Now, it was easier to BE serious, to actually offer advice that was meaningful instead of laughing things off. Not that he didn't still laugh things off. He had to do that, really, or he wouldn't be himself. But he had his moments of sobriety, his moments when sometimes, things just hurt. Hurting was the new thing, in it's own way. Or maybe it wasn't so much hurting as ACKNOWLEDGING that he hurt. Perspective was a strange thing, and he wasn't sure at times that he really enjoyed having it. Hell, listening to Shikoba had been, in many ways, like listening to Kileyo. The bright eagerness, the insecurities, wanting to know what was going on... THAT had made him feel old, considering that at first glance he'd been thinking what a fine-looking stallion the other was. Yep, THAT little bubble of daydreaming had been burst rather quickly, but reality had a nasty habit of doing that. And it wasn't like he wasn't used to having his daydreams shattered on a regular basis; that was the price one paid for being different. Well, one of the prices, anyway...

Liani: Arrival With a sharp, smart step, the Usdia mare trotted her way down a slight incline to the bank of a small stream. Stopping at the edge, she lifted her head to scope out the area, then, smiling in a satisfied way that the coast was still clear, she lowered her head to drink. Red-tipped black hairs dangled in the water as she drank, the wild mass of her mane patently untamable even from a distance. Not that she cared that much; all manes were supposed to do was keep your neck temperate and maybe frame your face. As long as her's stayed out of the way, she was fine. Finishing her drink, she lifted her head and tossed back the offending mane, scenting the breeze with closed eyes. She was on the trail of something, alright... Opening her eyes, Liani's muzzle curved into an amused smirk. She was making progress, alright. "You might have wing, Guili babe...but I'm gaining."

Thread rp Miss Cherie

With a loud splash, Kwahu landed in the lake right by his uncle (who had somehow managed to not be in the lake, but rather on the shore). "Uncle Safi, Uncle Safi! I have so much to tell you!" The excited wind had narrowly avoided crash landing where the water met the land, for once carrying with him a little bit of luck. Not that he didn't think he was lucky. Oh no. There were many things that made him think quite the opposite. He waited, bright eyed and almost bouncy like a puppy, his ears pricked forward. He wanted to burst out with his news, but he felt it might be better to wait for Safi to respond, first.
Cajmera Blinking a bit, Safi stood on the bank of the shore, staring at his nephew in bemusement. Though he wasn't IN the water, he'd been close enough that Kwahu's splashdown had made it his way; consequently, droplets of water clung to his face and mane. To say nothing of his fox.
Cerdi, on the other hand, was NOT amused. From his position at Safi's side, the blue fox had been thoroughly doused and was staring at the culprit with a look that bordered on muderous. "You...you...HOW DARE YOU????" His fur, his beautiful fur, and the boss! "You just-I can't believe-Boss, are you alright?" First things first; he'd deal with the evil splasher after making sure that the Boss was ok.
"Fine, fine; don't get your tail in a twist, Cerdi. A little water never hurt anyone!" Laughing, Safi brushed past the fox, Cerdi's fits of indignation well known to the stallion. Besides, who cared about a little water when you had family around. "Kwahu, you little brat, how long has it been since you've last seen me? At least a month, for shame!" Grinning, he waded out into the water, not the least feeling like waiting for Kwahu to come to him. "You look wonderful, how've you been?"Miss Cherie ((Thank you! I like to think he's quite handsome too. ... Yeah, I, uhh... prefer to just sort of avoid the whole half-sib thing.))
"I'm wonderful! ... I mean, I've been wonderful. I met the most amazing girl," Kwahu babbled, shaking his wings out. "Sorry Cerdi. I didn't mean to splash you." He glanced apologetically at the fox for a moment before returning his gaze to his uncle. "She's smart, she's ... she's just so perfect." He smiled sheepishly, stepping onto dry land. "Sorry. I've been busy." Very busy, if he were to be truthful, and he was that as a rule. "And Uncle Safi, I'm going to be a father!" He made his declaration with a giddy, happy expression. It was obvious that he was falling for the mare in question, or at least had a pretty serious crush on her. But he was particularly thrilled about the idea of having foals to look after. Little foals that would look like him and Azulia.
Cajmera ((Kwahu got good genes. It runs in the family *grins* Takes after his uncle, you know XD)) " Not sorry as you should be, Brat." Snarling, Cerdi shook himself out vigorously, still giving Kwahu a baleful look from his vantage point on the shore. He didn't like all these kids, no he didn't; they were all alike, all of them, much too familiar with the boss and cheeky to boot.
However, Cerdi shut up as Safi turned slightly and gave the fox a Look; the last thing Safi needed was to have this moment marred by Cerdi being snippy. And what a moment it was!
"No, you're kidding me, arne't you? A father? At your age? Oh wow, Kwahu, I'm-" Wow, what did you say to that sort of declaration? Nothing, of course; hugs first, talking later. Beaming, Safi wrapped his wings around Kwahu in a bone crushing hug, his delight evident in his face. "I can't believe you're going to be a father, Kwahu; it seems like just yesterday you were a capering colt, and now..."
Oh, so much to think about, his head was spinning! "How long have you known she was expecting? This is important you know, I'm going to be a great-uncle!"Miss Cherie Kwahu almost 'corrected' Safi, informing him that he was going to be a grandfather, before he realized how ridiculous that sounded. Safi wasn't, in all technicality, his father. The fact that he acted precisely as though he was, and that he was closer to his uncle than his father didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. It didn't change the reality. "Yes... a great-uncle." It almost pained him to admit that they weren't as closely related as he wanted them to be. But that was okay. He needed to accept things the way they were.
Smiling, he returned the hug. "We've only known for a couple of days, really. She's really showing now, though." Which, again, thrilled him. He loved knowing that their little foals were growing, and would be born sometime in the not so distance future. "Hey, I'm older than a bunch of the others I've seen with foals," Kwahu protested, when the subject of his age came up. He was plenty old enough to be a father. Wasn't he? As usual, he tuned Cerdi out. The fox never had anything nice to say to him, and he didn't bother to listen to him most times.
Cajmera Laughing, Safi draw back from Kwahu, then gave him a wink, almost as though he knew what Kwahu was thinking. Then again, Kwahu had been like a son to him in many ways, even before he had children of his own; however, that didn't mean that he would ever knowingly steal Kohana's rightful place in his son's life. Besides, 'great-uncle' had a nice ring to it! "Then again, I like to think that I've ALWAYS been a great-uncle, but you'd know that better than me, biased as I am."
Grinning, Safi gave Kwahu a beaming grin, one that widened progressively with each new word out of Kwahu's mouth. Oh, this was so exciting!
"So, you're basically at the beginning of the slog, eh? Well, that means I have plenty of time to get used to the idea of my little Kwahu being a daddy!" With that, Safi nudged at Kwahu, intending to at least start getting the two of them out of the water. "How is she taking this? Were you planning on kids, or was this just one of those things that happens when hormones get the best of you?" He could be frank, after all; it was his right! "And for that matter, who is she? Is this a committed relationship? Have you known her long?"
Pausing, Safi realized that he was starting to get pushy. "Only you don't have to tell me anything confidential, naturally; I'll understand. I'm just nosy!" As Kwahu well knew. Miss Cherie That was a lot of questions. Laughing, Kwahu attempted to sort his way through all of them. "I think she's taking it well. She seems less upset than I've been told my mother was, so at least I know I'm not breaking her heart with it, or anything." The idea of Azulia being as broken up as his father had once described his mother was a terrible one. He never wanted to do that to a mare, especially not one for whom his feelings ran so deeply. "Err... her name is Azulia. I'm not sure if it's a committed relationship yet, but I am hoping it will develop into one." He shook his head, once again feeling rather sheepish. "No, the foals weren't planned, but they are wanted. By me, at the very least. I'm pretty sure she wants them as well." How best would he answer the last question? "I've known her for awhile now, Uncle Safi." The fact that he couldn't pinpoint how long it had been since he met her should've bothered him, but it didn't.
Cajmera Draping a wing over Kwahu's shoulder, Safi trotted out of the water and listened intently. Though he was usually a talker, there were sometimes things that just required silence.
"Azulia...that's a pretty name, and she sounds like a nice mare. Must be, if you're so interested in her you're willing to become a parent! And speaking as an old hand at the whole parent thing, Kwahu, it's a long hard slog. Ungrateful kids, backtalking, rule-breaking, hormones...plus you can't take the weekend off, and you're doomed to annoyances for the rest of your waking life."
However, Safi was smiling as he spoke; he'd always enjoyed being a father, and Kwahu ought to know that. He started it, after all. But that brough up another thing...
"Have you told your father yet, Kwahu?" Miss Cherie "Yeah, I know they will be trouble. Kids are always trouble, even when they don't mean to be. That's okay, though. I'm excited about the prospect of teaching them all the things they'll need to know about this world. Do you think maybe one of them will have wings, so that I can teach him or her to fly?" Reevaluating his statement, Kwahu realized that that might not be the best plan. "Err... maybe I'd better leave the flight lessons to you, Uncle Safi." He wasn't the best at the landings himself. Guiltily, he started. "No. I haven't told Dad yet."
Cajmera At Kwahu's query about the wings, Safi looked rather pointedly at Kwahu's, then back at his own wings before laughing. "Considering that your mum is wingless and your dad is wingless and you turned up winged, I think that there's a strong possibility that one of the munchkins will have wings, Kwahu; should that be the case, I'd be happy to start up withflight lessons again. Then again, you can Killy both have issues with landings, so maybe there's something wrong with my methods. Either that...or you two just don't attend. Maybe my first grandbrats will make up for that."
Or something. "Still, I think you'll manage ok. Hell, look at what kind of crazy situations you grew up in; you had ME for a role model, after all, and I've had it on good authoiry that I'm terrible in that capacity. Besides, you'll have this Azulia to help you out..." And that would be nice. For both of them; single parenting was complicated!
However... "Well, you ought to think about doing that at some point, Kwahu. Much as Kohana like to huff and puff and swear to adore the hermit's life he leads, I'm pretty sure that he's sneakily keeping tabs on you guys. Best if he hears the news from the source, doncha think?" Miss Cherie "What? You think dad's keeping tabs on us?" Really? Kohana never made a big show of being interested in his son's life, but every once in awhile he'd show up, and it seemed to Kwahu that he knew more about him than he would have imagined possible, given how little they talked. "Yeah, I guess I'd better tell him." Assuming he didn't already know. From the way Safi talked, it was possible that he'd seen Azulia with him, and had put two and two together. "Hey, it's not your fault we suck at landings. That's probably just something that's hard to teach, and I know I at least am kind of clumsy. No amount of teaching can take that away." The idea that one of his foals might be winged was a rather exciting one, but he wasn't sure he was prepared for it just yet. After all, he could barely land himself.
Cajmera "Call it a hunch." If there was one thing that Safi had learned about his brother over the years, it was that he liked to put up a good front. Kohana might pretend to like being a recluse, but everytime Safi'd had talked with him, there had always seemed to be an underlying interest in what was going on 'out there', ESPECIALLY with regards to his children. "Plus, I may or may not have let him in on certain things. I see you and Amoena more than he does, after all."
Shaking off the last clinging bits of water from his wings, Safi looked over at Kwahu, amused at the slight bit of self-deprecation in Kwahu's dismissal of the idea of Safi being a bad teacher. "And sure, you WOULD say that. Still, I'm the teacher, so I ought to have done something about that. Moreso since I'm a DELIGHTFUL flier, if I do say so myself!" Miss Cherie Hmm. Kwahu wondered just how much his father knew about him. "Well, that's sneaky." Still, he couldn't really blame him. After all, he was excited about his foals. Maybe Kohana had been just as excited when his mother was pregnant. Only... that couldn't possibly have been true, could it? Mother had the dream family she'd wanted now. That meant that his parents hadn't been right for each other, so maybe he hadn't be so excited after all. It was funny. He was pretty sure he had some half-siblings out there, but he didn't even know what they looked like. Perhaps he clung to Uncle Safi because he made it very apparent that he was loved. His own parents might love him, but he couldn't really be sure. He saw so very little of them. "You know, just because you were my teacher doesn't mean it is your fault that I failed to learn the lessons you tried to teach me. That's partly my responsibility too."
Cajmera "Point." Safi would concede that much, that it was a joint effort for anyone to learn to fly. Besides, he himself was lousy at running, so why wouldn't it make sense for Kwahu to have trouble with flying? Flying was, in its own way, very complex. "All it takes is more practice. Who knows, having a kid or two to practice WITH might even improve your skills, Kwahu. I might be too old and stiff to chase about after kidlets by the time yours are ready for flight, after all."
THERE was a blatant lie for you. As if he planned on getting old that soon!
But anyway, moving on.
"You'll be amazed how much of this is intuitive, Kwahu. Look at me; I wound up a father in literally minutes, what with tripping over Sai in the woods; if you want to stretch the definitions a bit more, I had you when you were still young and impressionable, since your father was...in need of help." That was a polite way to sum up Kohana's emotional issues, he supposed. "So I learned on the wing. And you're more responsible a young'un than I was, so that means you ought to adapt even BETTER than I did." Miss Cherie Kwahu snorted, disbelief in every line of him. "Oh, as though you could ever be old, Uncle Safi. That is completely unbelievable." He tossed his head, and grinned. "You'll never be old." But he'd always be his third parent. Sort of. Well, as close as it came. "I dunno... maybe I'll get lucky, and the younglings will take after Azulia. She's much too smart to have the sort of trouble I do." And there was the fact that she had no wings. No wings meant no crashing. That was a positive thing. However, he would like to nurture a young flier. He hadn't had the experience just yet. "I haven't even met Sai yet!" he said, dismay in his tone. "I'd better do that before I actually end up a father. Having little ones about will make it difficult to meet my cousins." Of which, he was fairly certain he had two.
Cajmera "Well, it HAS been known to happen, aging. To the nicest of people, even, they get old and crusty and crotchety and start going off on young Soquili these days...it's very sad." Yes, that sounded utterly delightful, NOT. Not that anyone had any choice in the matter, but he himself would ideally like to stay young forever.
"Well, you'll have to find out that when the kids are born. Though sometime after that I think that I would enjoy meeting Azulia as well; gotta meet this mare that can get my favorite nephew to get so serious." Laughing, Safi crossed his wings behind his head, giving Kwahu a teasing wink. "After all, even I'M not that serious." But that was another story, for another time. "And believe it or not, Killy and Sai will probably NOT lynch you for having kids before you meet them. Hell, maybe meeting you post kids will actually encourage them to get a move on with that themselves; I'm not going to live forever, after all, and I'd like to have grandkids before I go."
Ok, that joke had been pushed to the limit now. "But I think we can manage that, though Sai and Killy are both rovers. Rather like you, at that." Miss Cherie "That's not at all what I meant, Uncle Safi. I meant that it might be hard to go anywhere with a bunch of newborn foals about. Especially while they are in their baskets." Kwahu didn't want to leave his children unattended, after all. They were terribly important to him, despite the fact that they were as yet unborn. "Hey, hey! I am not serious. Not really." Well, maybe a little. He wasn't about to admit to it now, though. And what was this rubbish about aging? "You haven't aged a day since last I saw you, so you can't possibly be getting old." He was adamant. He couldn't believe his uncle to be old at all. "Do you really want them to 'get a move on'? Are you sure you could handle that many foals?"
Cajmera "So they can go and vist you! You don't have to be the one on the move all the time, after all. But I concede your point, it IS an important time for family bonding. I imagine that you and Azulia will want to spend some time getting to know your little additions, after all." Been there, done that. "And who said that I'd need to be able to handle the foals? That's the beauty of being the first generation; you can step back and let their parents handle them when you're tired. Classic, that's what that is."
"Yeah. Are you saying that the Boss couldn't handle it?" At that moment, Cerdi bounced up to alight on Safi's shoulder, feeling that this discourse had excluded him long enough. Besides, he REALLY didn't like that whelp's tone; as though the Boss couldn't handle a MILLION foals! Miss Cherie Yet again confirmation that Cerdi was incapable of saying anything nice to anyone who wasn't Safi. Ah well. "I've noticed that whether or not you intend to do all of the handling, young ones flock to you. That's enough to tire anyone out." He ignored the fox, feeling no need to let him get a rise out of him. "As much as I am sure I will try to capture my children's attention, if they take after me at all, they will be hovering around their 'Uncle Safi'." He grinned wryly, and settled his wings onto his back. "True enough. They could come see me." But would they know where to find him?
Cajmera "NOW you're just trying to flatter me, silly boy. Haven't you learned that that doesn't work on me?" Still, Safi was touched by Kwahu's rather frank breakdown of his own special allure, exaggerated as it might be. "And we'll have to wait and see, won't we? Your kids might be novel and think I'm eccentric, after all."
Granted, he WAS eccentric, but they might not like that. Placing a wing on Cerdi, he pushed the fox gently off to the side, then once again placed a wing over Kwahu. "Well, we'll have to go find them and let them know, won't we? And you have to let ME know where you live, though that's only if you want to have me dropping by at inopportune times. Oh, and we MUST find your father and let him know..."
So much to do, so little time!

ModeraCosette~ Relation to Modera: Acquaintance ~ About: Modera met Cosette one day when the two mares were both indulging in a late lunch; though a little bit put off at how many apples the other mare first seemed to be hoarding, Modera finally decided that maybe she wasn't that bad after all. ~ Modera's feelings: Neutral Guilian~ Relation to Modera: Acquaintance and herdmate ~ About: Though she's only met him once, that one encounter was enough to permanently sour Modera on the red stallion forever. Narcissitic, lustful, self-absorbed, and indulgent beyond any safe margins, he is the epitome of everything wrong with the Soquili population today...as she sees it. ~ Modera's feelings: Negative Kuval~ Relation to Modera: Acquaintance ~ About: Though she likes to think herself enlightened, meeting up with a kelpi for the first time left Modera feeling a bit...confused. To make matters worse, Kuval had absolutely NO sense of proper etiquette or manners for talking to a female, resulting in his managing to offend more than anything else. Stallions... ~ Modera's feelings: Negative LianiGuilian~ Relation to Liani: Friend and herdmate ~ About: Liani's relationship with Guilian predates the presence of either in the Soquili lands, going back farther than either of them would likely care to admit. As a mare who looks down on 'animal passions', Liani has always had choice words to say to Guilian whenever the two get together; however, the vein of those conversations is more teasing than anything else, as she knows nothing she could ever say would get through to him. However, in spite of that knowledge the two get along famously, enjoying their verbal spars. ~ Liani's feelings: Positive, affection Luca~ Relation to Liani: Acquaintance ~ About: On the one occassion that Liani met Luca, the Usdia mare was in fact looking for Guilian; finding him in the company of Luca meant little, knowing Guilian's habits as she did. Beyond a bit of teasing Luca for her hand in keeping Guilian misbehaving, Liani basically left her alone. ~ Liani's feelings: Neutral Foliegh AmarantineAntony ~Relation to Amary: Half-brother and herdmate ~About: Though they share the same father, Antony's greater age and nomadic lifestyle mean that he is at best a shadowy figure in Amary's life. Having met him only once during her foalhood, Amary's impressions were of a big, somewhat spikey and grouchy stallion; now that she's grown, she's found that impression hasn't changed much. To a lighthearted girl like Amary, Antony's occassional moodiness can seem like a major drag. Consequently, whenever they're together she takes great sport in trying to get on his nerves... ~Amary's feelings: Positive Brannon ~Relation to Amary: Acquaintance ~About: As the guardian of Requiem, Brannon was present when Amary and Req had their first meeting and Amary was immeadiately fond of the older stallion for his politeness and compliments. After all, a girl has to know she's liked, right? ~Amary's feelings: Positive Guilian ~Relation to Amary: Father and herdmate ~About: Ever since she was a baby, Amary was the apple of her father's eye; even as a grown mare, the bond between father and daughter remains strong. To Amary, Guilian represents the ideal stallion, living the ideal life, aspects of which she always tries to emulate in her own. Loving him as much as she does, it's not surprising that when Guilian's around she can revert to foalish behavior, much to the amusement of both. ~Amary's feelings: Love and adoration Leon ~Relation to Amary: Brother ~About: The only other child born to Guilian and Luca, Leon is closest thing to a true confidant in Amary's life. Quiet, timid, and introspective, Leon is never out and about like his parents or sister, prefering to keep to himself and his daydreams. However, in spite of their differences Leon and Amary are honestly devoted to one another and always find time to share. In spite of the differences in their natures, hers to the flesh and his to the spirit, Amary knows she can tell Leon anything at all and only get positive responses. Luca~Relation to Amary: Mother ~About: Though her relationship with her father is closer, Amary utterly adores her mother who she even now regards as the most gorgeous and fascinating mare alive. Having inherited Luca's natural sex appeal, it only makes sense that she'd learn how to use it from the same source. ~Amary's feelings: Love and affection Requiem~Relation to Amary: Acquaintance ~About: Amary first met Req while at the seashore. Left on her own for a brief bit by her father, Amary met Requiem along with his guardian Brannon, both of whom she liked immeadiately. Req's coat pattern fascinated her from the start, as did his interest in her wings, and she was more than happy to do a bit of preening for his benefit. ~Amary's feelings: Positive Sigao~Relation to Amary: Friend ~About: From the first time she met Sigao, Amary knew he was 'different'. Quiet almost to the point of muteness, Sigao never talks unless it's necessary and even then only utters one or two words. However, Amary loves the fact that he doesn't mind if she prattles on, and understands him well enough without words for their meetings to always be of interest. ~Amary's feelings: Positive RaphaelAedelstan~Relation to Raphael: Brother ~About: ~Raphael's feelings: Love and affection Gemma~Relation to Raphael: Sister ~About: ~Raphael's feelings: Love and affection Hienna~Relation to Raphael: Mother ~About: ~Raphael's feelings: Love and affection Zaphiro~Relation to Raphael: Father ~About: ~Raphael's feelings: Love and affection RyniaArtemis Entreri~Relation to Rynia: Father ~About: ~Rynia's feelings: Intimidation Ladius~Relation to Rynia: Mother ~About: ~Rynia's feelings: Awe Shiraz~Relation to Rynia: Sister ~About: ~Rynia's feelings: Affection

TrevelynDraven~ Relation to Trev: Mentor and foster-father ~ About: ~ Trev's feelings: Affection and respect Feryal~ Relation to Trev: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Trev's feelings: Positive Jean-Claude~ Relation to Trev: Father ~ About: Though Jean-Claude is biologically Trev's father, the 'divorce' of JC with Nostalgia before the kids hatched meant that Trev had no contact with JC early on, and the contact he DID have was undeniably negative. After witnessing a major blow-up between his parents in their one meeting during his foalhood, Trev was shocked and disgusted at JC's cruelty and rudeness and swore that he'd do whatever he needed to keep his mother and sister safe from 'that stallion' in the future. Though he himself looks like the mirror image of JC, Trev will not acknowledge him as his father. ~ Trev's feelings: Strongly negative Memory~ Relation to Trev: Sister ~ About: Ever since the days of childhood when he thought their family only numbered three, Trev has been devoted to his sister Memory. She was his playmate, his wrestling partner, his confidant, and his companion; even after learning that they had a 'father' and another sister, nothing changed with regard to Trev's feelings for Memory. Whenever he comes home, he looks forward to seeing her, and would do whatever was within his power to protect her should the need arise. ~ Trev's feelings: Strong love and adoration Naina~ Relation to Trev: Sister ~ About: As the child raised by Jean-Claude, Naina was always a bit on a negative enigma to Trev. Originally angered and upset by her rudeness to himself and his TRUE family in their first meeting, Trev has since then come to accept that maybe the behavior of foals in the heat of the moment isn't a good judge of their character. That said, he still doesn't trust the blue mare, and would need a lot more time before he actually does. ~ Trev's feelings: Neutral/negative Nostalgia~ Relation to Trev: Mother ~ About: Raised by his mother as he was, it's unsurprising that Trev is strongly devoted to her. Beyond the mere bond of mother and child, Trev witnessed first hand the antagonistic behaviors of his sire against Nostalgia, and ever since then has regarded his abused but noble mother as one of the most dedicated parents ever, using that meeting to spur on his own dreams of taking the place of family protector for Nostalgia's sake. ~ Trev's feelings: Love and devotion AntonyAbattie~ Relation to Antony: Friend ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Friendship Akila~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Neutral Amarantine~ Relation to Antony: Half-sister and herdmate ~ About: Due to his relative dislike of children, Antony put off going to see his younger half-siblings until they were well out of the basket; consequently, he got to meet Amary when she was at her most hyperactive and blunt. Unsurprisingly, her mannerisms managed to make a strong negative impression on him, and her continued attempts to annoy him now that she's an adult have failed to endear her to him. However, as long as he's not around her for that long at a time, there is true affection there between them. ~ Antony's feelings: Affection and annoyance Ariston~ Relation to Antony: Friend ~ About: Antony's first recollections of the big kalona stallion are hazy memories of someone very, very big. As Guilian's closest male friend, it was inevitable that Ariston would meet the kids; from the first meeting, Antony was impressed with the big stallion and that respect only grew as Antony aged. Though a kalona, Ariston was friends with the other races and never showed the half-breed anything but kindness and warm friendship. Antony has gone to Ariston before for advice and conversation, and now counts him as a friend himself. ~ Antony's feelings: Affection and admiration Atsila~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Neutral Diabetia~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Respect Dodger~ Relation to Antony: Close Friend ~ About: Though he first met Dodger when they were both foals, the friendship between the two stallions remains as strong as ever. Originally amazed at the way that Dodger felt no fear about his kalona traits, Antony has come to resepct the other stallion and love the time they spend together. After all, it's not often you get a friend so close you can joke about the girliness of his hairstyle... ~ Antony's feelings: Strong friendship Guilian~ Relation to Antony: Father and herdmate ~ About: Antony's father has always been the most respected figure in Antony's life, and that fact is highly unlikely to change anytime soon. Though he and his siblings got to grow up listening to the arguements of divided parents, Antony has always had a profound respect for his father and his commitment to his principles. Additionally, the fact that Guilian has always done whatever was in his power to lessen the sting of being mixed race has never failed to endear him to Antony, knowing full well the complication children with a kalona had brought to Guilian himself. If there is one thing Antony ever hopes to be, it's a stallion as amazing as his father. ~ Antony's feelings: Strong love and affection Izusa~ Relation to Antony: Mother ~ About: Growing up with a kalona for a mother can mean all sorts of things. To Antony, Izusa was a source of both nurture and confusion, her mental instability and paranoia about the doings of Guilian often causing her son to withdraw just to avoid getting involved. However, even though he sided with his father in his parents' arguement, Antony remains fond of his mother. From a distance. ~ Antony's feelings: Affection Keahi~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Neutral Loveless~ Relation to Antony: Potential friend, former enemy, lover ~ About: Antony has known Loveless ever since she was a filly in the company of her father; from that first meeting, his relationship with her has gone uphill and downhill, from easy friendship to bitter hatred to paranoia and wariness to pleasant companionship and casual intimacy. At this point, Tony isn't exactly sure what he thinks of Loveless, but he does know that to forgive is divine. ~ Antony's feelings: Confusion Luca~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: Beyond the knowledge that she's one of his father's lovers and the mother of his half-siblings, Antony really doesn't have that much of an impression of Luca, and tries to keep it that way. A short meeting was enough to learn just how strongly she attracted males, and one thing he'd never do is break the 'thou shalt not sleept with thy father's mares' commandment. ~ Antony's feelings: Neutral Neve~ Relation to Antony: Sister ~ About: Just as there exists love at first sight, so to is there loathe at first sight. Ever since he was a foal, Antony has detested his sister, a feeling she returns in spades. Though theyrarely encounter each other any more, absence has done nothing to make either heart grow fonder. ~ Antony's feelings: Loathing Nicholai~ Relation to Antony: Brother ~ About: Unlike Neve, who has always managed to inspire feelings of loathing deep in Antony's soul, Nicholai always managed to get along pretty well with his brother. Like Tony, Nicky bears distinctive physical features of a kalona; consequently, it's pretty easy for those two to sympathize on the difficulties of being a half breed. Though they hardly see each other now that they're grown, between the brothers there still exists a strong bond of affection. ~ Antony's feelings: Strong affection Yue Shuang~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Neutral Zillah~ Relation to Antony: Acquaintance ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings: Negative Zoet Kopi Eloran~ Relation to Antony: Friend ~ About: ~ Antony's feelings:Friendship and attraction

Zaphiro: Solitude It was night; or rather, it was the earliest hours of the early morning, after the setting of the moon but before the rising of the sun was even a thought. This was the time of night when everything felt heavy, as though there were an invisible layer of fog pressing down on the landscape; the hour of the night when all Soquilis ought to be doing was curling up in their warm beds for another few hours. Usually, that was what Zaphiro would be doing, nestling around his beloved Hienna in the cosy comfort of their home cave. In fact, that was what he WAS doing, until he inexplicably awoke. Blinking, Zaphiro looked around at the shadowy rock, then tilted his head to look out beyond the cave entrance. Blackness was all that greeted his eyes, the darkness of a moonless night. That sight was enough to inform Zaphiro that it was early, MUCH earlier than he had any reason to be awake. Yet awake he was, in one of the truest and most obnoxious senses of the word. Even as he considered trying to go back to sleep the sapphire stallion knew it was a lost cause; consequently, he decided to make the most of this situation. Easing himself to his feet, Zaphiro gave his sleeping mate a nuzzle, inhaling her sweet scent as she did so. She looked so serene, curled in sleep, with tendrils of her striped mane falling over her face in a way that could be almost called coquettish; even in the gloom of the cave, she shown like a priceless jewel. Glancing away from Hienna, Zaphiro allowed his attention to be drawn to the slumbering heap of foalhood nearby, his muzzle curving up in a fond smile as he surveryed his three children. Raphael lay with his back against the wall and his legs splayed out, his blonde curls concealing almost all of his face except for one tightly shut eye; one of his dark wings was open, spread over his sister as she lay with her head pillowed on Raph's side. In turn, Gemma had Aedelstan partly flopping over HER, his golden horn poking into her wings. Walking softly over the grasses that he and Hienna carpeted the cave with, Zaphiro crossed over to his kids and gently nudged Ae so that his horn wouldn't poke Gemma, then scooted Gemma up a bit and tucked up Raph's hind legs so that Ae wouldn't get tangled in them when he awoke and tried to move off; these days, it seemed as though Ae was always the first to get going. But right now, he and both of his siblings were completely out of it, none of them making so much as a murmur of indication that they'd noticed their father's ministrations. Satisfied that the kids were settled, Zaphiro gave each a gentle nuzzle, starting with Raph and ending with Gemma in proper age order, then once again looked out towards the sky. Still black, still starry, still silent. Giving one last glance around at mate and offsrping, Zaphiro turned and crept silently out of the cave and into the clearing, his coat sparkling in the light of the stars. Lifting his his wings slightly, Zaphiro threw back his head as a night breeze wafted past, pulling at his long curls and rustling the gold-tipped feathers of his wings. It was a nice breeze, cool and soothing, bearing with it smells of autumn. Autumn. He'd have to get used to that idea, as it seemed that only yesterday the ice had finally finished breaking off of his favorite ponds. But autumn was rather nice, in its own way...and he was sure that the kids would love seeing snow. They might not love it as much afterwards, but he could already envision their shock and awe the first time they walked out of the cave into a blindingly white world. They'd need to collect more grasses and bracken in the meantime, or else their cave home would be unpleasantly frigid come winter. But they still had time, and this year, he and Hienna would have help. He was quite sure that the kids would be more than amenable, especially if they made gathering insulation into a game. They did so love games... Smiling a bit foolishly at that, Zaphiro lowered his wings and began to pace across the grassy clearing to the pond. Planning games for his kids...how he loved to think about things like that. Every day since their birth had been one of powerful rewards, and since that amazing day when they'd finally emerged from their baskets, he'd been in a near constant state of nirvana. Seeing the three of them racing around, wrestling with each other, teasing and sparring and squabbling, had been more rewarding than any previous thoughts could have indicated. He loved them, all three of them. Aedelstan, with his golden markings and purple coat that looked SO much like Hienna; Raphael, with his bright golden horn and golden curls, ever the protective spirit; and little Gemma, with her bright eyes and dark colors, a perfect mix of both he and Hienna. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter could lift him from any moment of sorrow; seeing them hurt made him willing to move the earth to help them. They were his...his three precious jewels. But every bloom of happiness carries at least one thorn of sorrow, which Zaphiro couldn't help but mull on as he turned towards the woodlands that bordered their clearing. Out there, on the edge of the clearing, were two small graves, two small graves that neither Zaphiro nor Hienna would ever forget. Someday, when the kids were older, he and Hie would take them to see those two graves and tell them of their older sisters, of the fragility of life and the sorrow that coul taint even the happiest of souls. Even thinking on them now, Zaphiro had to close his eyes briefly against the tiny gatherings of moisture in the corners of his eyes. They were so happy, he and Hienna, with their three foals; how much happier might they have been with five? But he knew that ultimately, such musings would only ever end in pain. No matter how much one tried, the past was irreversable, what was could never be changed or brought back. He would always mourn his two lost little girls, but that sorrow would not and SHOULD not prevent him from enjoying the happiness that was his three younger children. They were his light, his and Hienna's, and as long as they were still around there would always be something to smile about.
