"Really?" Birch tilted his head, the quirked eyebrows and pursed lips giving away his confusion. "Most parents are excited to have their children go off on their adventures," he murmured to himself, but perked up once Alina spoke up again. "Yes, that's very true! Not to mention owning your own pokemon and increasing your team will teach you responsibility, I'm sure your parents will come around to the idea," he added, optimistic. Of course, not every parent was ecstatic to have their child leave home and head for a grand adventure, as a parent he could sympathize.
Before he could start to think of his own son Birch whipped his head back to Alina, a smile spreading across his features. "A Torchic, you say? Yes we do, quite a few in fact." He turned his body clockwise to face a different room, "let me go get you one. Elena would you mind collecting--" he addressed his aide as he was turning back around, only to stop midway through his sentence when he saw her retreating form, having already known what would be asked of her. "Well then! All that's left is for me to go get your pokemon, hm?" Birch chuckled to himself right before he scuttled off, slipping into the other room to quickly swipe the designated pokeball that held Alina's future starter. "Here we are!" he announced as he walked back into the main room, where Elena had already returned and was already handing the blonde her items. "Ah, yes! There's your pokedex, and a few potions and pokeballs," he explained before he handed Alina her Torchic. "And last, but not least, here is your Torchic. Be careful, they're known to set clothes on fire..."

Alina's face lit up as Birch placed the PokéBall in her hands, genuine excitement in her eyes. She was taking the first step, and her mind was already clicking away as to where she could go from here, now that she had a fire-spitting companion.
With a click and a flash of light, Alina opened the capsule and suddenly found herself holding the little bird, smiling as he shook himself and ruffled his feathers after being confined in the ball. His shiny eyes blinked up at her, waiting, and Alina instantly decided she liked the look of this Torchic. He was patient, not jumping around until she made the first move. That was good, she wouldn't want her starter to be a problem child.
"Hello, little one," she said calmly. "I thought of a lot of names on the trip from Sootopolis, and I think... What do you think of 'Ares'?"
The bird paused for a moment, tilted his head to one side, then gave a pleased "Chic!"
"Well that settles that." Alina ruffled the top of Ares' head, then turned to the Professor. "Thank you, I--" She was cut off by a nearby computer suddenly chirping a retro tune and lighting up as a familiar logo appeared on the screen. Her family's company logo.
Alina barely had time to frown in confused annoyance before blue and pink shapes started phasing out of the computer, and within thirty seconds oriented themselves into a blocky creature that floated towards them as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
"Hello, miss," the Porygon greeted Alina in a somewhat synthesized voice, and she bristled. "I have been sent under instructions from your family to accompany you, miss."
"You mean spy on me for my parents," she spat, and though her expression was a simple pout, there was ice in her eyes.
"Yes, miss."
Alina huffed, exasperated. "At least you're honest about it. We'll sort this out later," she grumbled, glaring sidelong at the Porygon, who simply beeped an affirmation as Ares peered at it suspiciously from Alina's arms.
She sighed and turned back to Birch. "Um, I did have another question." Her expression turned nervous. "The reason my parents didn't want me to travel by myself, and why they sent this guy, I guess," she jerked her head towards the Porygon, "Is that...well... Is it true Team Aqua and Team Magma are back?"

Birch smiled gently as he watched trainer and pokemon meet for the first time, there was just something so endearing about seeing his little pokemon taken up and given to new trainers, especially to someone so kind as Alina. He moved to turn away, expecting the two to head out onto their grand adventure, only to stop when one of his computers rang out and flashed a certain logo. With great surprise he could only watch as a pokemon, eventually indentified as a Porygon, materialized and instantly moved to Alina. Birch blinked and reached a hand up to scratch at his stubble. Well, he'd never had his computer produce a pokemon before, but there was a first time for everything.
If the vaguely familiar logo hadn't given it away, then Alina's familiarity with the pokemon certainly did. Birch couldn't help but to chuckle as he watched the two interact, "Well, I guess you'll be starting your adventure with two pokemon in your possession," he mused, only to have his expression flatten when Alina asked him about Team Magma and Aqua. He gave a deep sigh before he shook his head. "Unfortunately, it is," he replied, tone somber. "There have been reports of sightings and recent activity." He allowed a lull into the conversation, and he used that time to force a little more optimistism into his voice. "But! The chance you'll run into them is rare, so you'll be fine, Ms. Alina."

xxxEmeline's steps slowed as she approached the tall doors of the Littleroot Lab. She glanced up to take in the full building, and clutched her fingers around the strap of her purse even tighter. She felt the dew of a nervous sweat in the shallow of her palm and immediately released her purse to wipe her hands on the front of her dress. Emeline attempted to will her arms down by her side, but her hands reflexively went right back to gripping the strap of the purse. Unsure of the proper procedure, she hesitantly extended a fist out to knock on the front door. She paused for a moment, truly wondering if she needed to knock at all. Regardless, it's better to be exceedingly polite rather than horribly rude. Her knuckles rapped on the door lightly and she returned the hand once more to the strap of her purse. A small smile lifted the corner of her lips, pleased with her progress. However, the smile quickly faded. Was she to knock and enter? Or knock and wait for someone to answer? "Ohhh no." Emeline's eyes widened slightly and she began to glance around to see if anyone was watching her (presumably) odd behavior.

Birch wasn't in the lab when the young girl stepped up to the door and knocked. He wasn't too far away though, In fact he was right behind now. He'd come up behind her from the road after some research to study the local Poochyena population. He hadn't made much of an attempt at being stealthy but she seemed so nervous and out of sorts that he slipped right up behind her unnoticed. "Boo!" Birch barked immediately forcing a laugh from the rather large man regardless of her reaction. "Nervous ?" He inquired stepping up to the door and pushing it in. "Here to get a starter pokemon miss ?" Stepping inside he held the door for her tempted to try and spoke her again for good effect.

xxxSo thoroughly absorbed in her own distress, Emeline had not noticed the pokémon professor that snuck up behind her. Though he seemed to put forward a minimal amount of effort in his surprise, Professor Birch truly startled her to her core. Emeline emitted a high-pitched squeak and jumped in surprise while immediately grabbing the pouch of her purse and clutching it close to her chest. The young girl pivoted to face the goofy professor, the terror and embarrassment clear on her features. "Nervous or not, I wasn't expecting anyone to appear from behind me!" Realizing she was still clinging to her purse, Emeline let the thing drape over her shoulder once more and smoothed out the front of her dress in attempt to regain some composure. "I figured the odds of you approaching from any direction would be 100% from behind those doors..." Emeline suddenly recognized she was being stand-offish to a man who was going to be doing her a rather large favor. Her features softened and she quietly cleared her throat. "You must be the good-humored professor I've heard so much about. My name is Emeline. Pleasure to meet you."
xxxAfter the professor opened the door and asked about her intentions, Emeline stiffened up slightly. Nothing made her more uncomfortable than asking to receive something. "Uhm... Yes, I am." She slightly bowed her head in recognition as he held the door open and offered a very quiet, "Thank you," as she stepped inside. She stopped a few steps inside and turned to watch the professor. Emeline didn't dare venture into his lab, but instead would wait for him to lead the way. "I do have a few pokémon of my own, but your consultation is so heavily recommended that... well..." She gave a slight shrug and offered a meek smile, "... here I am." She wondered if she should mention her pokémon preference to the professor, or if it was too greedy to rush into requests. Would it be insulting to him or the other pokémon? She didn't mean for that; it was just something that she'd spent a lot of time thinking about. While her mind whirred, her fingers nervously tugged and played with the cuffs of her sleeves.

In the back of the Pokemon lab run by Hoenn's own Pokemon Professor Birch Warren scouted the area with his Shieldon who sat next to him. The plan was simple, Simon was going to head into the lab and cause a scene. While he was doing this Shieldon was going to sneak into the back and steal one of the Pokeballs along with anything else he managed to put in the cloth pack that Warren had fastened around his body. Even though Warren just recently acquired the fossil and had a scientist bring him back Warren felt a connection with the ancient Pokemon. Unlike what they were doing here Warren found the fossil, not stolen it. Having escaped from a travelling cell by kicking it off the cart it was on and bracing himself as it fell down the rocky cliff. When he woke up and picked up a rock to break the lock he was pleasantly surprised to see that the rock that freed him was an Armor Fossil.
Lowering the binoculars he nodded at Shieldon who nodded back and started traveling to the tall grass towards the white fence. Birch seemed to not care about security as Shieldon used metal sound to break the metal fencing. Pushing in he stayed low and wandered along the side of the fence where a window was in the lab so that the trio of starter Pokemon could be seen. Since it was late the starters were still inside of the Pokeballs. As he heard a disturbance inside and the lab tech turn from the window he snatched up one of the Pokeballs and hurried back towards the hole in the fence. Pausing he noticed something in the grass and swept it up as well before darting out the hole.
Inside the lab as Shieldon was getting the Pokemon Warren had asked if the Professor was in. Once he discovered he wasn't Warren continued to ask questions about how to get a starter Pokemon and in turn a Pokedex. The assistant turned from the window and held out one of the Pokedex, one of the last ones around. The man continued to explain that new trainers not only got the Pokedex but they also got some Pokeball and potions. Hearing a clatter outside the tech started to turn so Warren though quickly and 'tripped' knocking the man over. As he helped the tech up he swept a Pokedex, some Pokeballs and potions into his own pack before thanking and apologizing the man and leaving. Back in the wooded area behind the lab Warren looked for, found and smiled at Shieldon. "Did you get anything good?" he asked as Shieldon dropped the Pokeball. Sending out the Pokemon Warren was pleased that they had stolen a Torchic. Using the stolen Pokedex on her they learned, "Torchic the chick Pokemon. Torchic sticks with its Trainer, following behind with unsteady steps. This Pokemon breathes fire over 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit, including fireballs that leave the foe scorched black.""Great job Shieldon," then to Torchic, "I'm Warren, this is Shieldon and you're with us now. I think I'll call you Chica.""Tor," the Pokemon said nodding. Turning the Pokedex on Shieldon they heard that "It was generated from a fossil dug out of a layer of clay that was older than anyone knows. It has a sturdy face."
Returning Chica he started to return Shieldon when he noticed an egg. Pulling it out he smiled, frowned then smiled again. "Great job Shieldon but this isn't a Pokemon egg, it's a lucky egg. It'll help you get stronger, faster. Since you stole it successfully you can hold onto it for us." Shieldon looked really happy as the egg was tucked away and he returned. Next place he was going to go now was the Hoenn Desert since it was possible to locate the Root and Claw fossils there. Then somehow he wanted to get to Unova to get the flying and surfing fossil Pokemon. Until then he continued through the small forest to get back to Littleroot town.

Birch smiled hearing the part about the good-humored professor. "Well i am a regional professor after all, Im sure lots of people have heard of me." Birch said ushering Emeline into his lab with a wave. The room was rather large but seemed much smaller due to the massive amounts of piled up paperwork, books and oddity's left out haphazardly.
"But the pleasures all mine i assure you. I take great pride in knowing trainers who come through those doors get to begin in the Hoenn region with one of my started pokemon." Birch said though he didn't seem to concerned with getting the girl a pokemon just yet. Stuffing his suitcase between two desks and straitening out some paperwork. moving a pile or books and even moving his desk before finally stopping. The normally jolly made had lost some spunk."Richard, where are the pokeballs ?" He called out and a skinny assistant rushed into the room looking about as freaked out as a man could get. "Richard whats wrong?" The professor asked concerned. "Someone stole one of the Torchic sir. I took the others with me until you got back sir." The man explained pulling from his lab coat pocket the remaining two pokeballs, Mudkip and Treecko. "Thats not good." Birch said turning back to the girl frowning as he scratched the back of his scalp. "Im sorry, i hope this doesn't ruin you pick of starters. You could always come back in a week if you wanted a torchic. ill go ahead and give you your Dex and beginner trainers Poke'balls and potions now though" Birch was already in motion, off to his desk setting the two balls down side by said as he practically leaped over his deck to get a Poke'Dex and the items. In his rush though he accidentally released the Mudkip from its ball. "Opps." He said stopping dead in his tracks.

xxxEmeline glanced around the spacious room, surveying the mountains of paper and clutter. To stop herself from judging the mess too harshly, she silently reminded herself that the professor was a busy man with a plethora of research to do. Surely this wasn't just the product of sheer laziness... Right? After scanning the area, her amber eyes drifted back over to the professor. Her brow furrowed in concern as he seemed to be bothered by something. As the lab assistant came rushing in, Emeline quietly spectated their interaction, silently hoping that the stolen Torchic would be properly cared for. With the remaining pokéballs in the professor's hands, he apologized if the tragedy affected her decision. Emeline quickly waved her hands, dismissing the idea, "Oh no, it's perfectly fine! I mean, not perfectly; I do worry for the lost little guy but uhm... I actually--" The clumsy professor knocked down a pokéball, accidentally releasing a small little Mudkip. Emeline stood silent for a moment, completely enamored by the pokémon.
xxxBeing a breeder, Emeline encountered numerous pokémon before, but she'd never been cleared by her parents to care for any starter pokémon. They were too precious of a commodity to risk on the youngest generation of the breeders. The small pokémon was a lot more endearing than she'd anticipated. Emeline researched the pokémon type advantages and disadvantages, and she'd planned on picking up a Mudkip for strategic purposes, but seeing the petite thing perched before her made her completely change her mind. It didn't matter if she succeeded as a trainer. That wasn't the point of her odyssey. She left Slateport with the intention to see the world and find happiness. The thought made a gentle smile stretch across her face. Emeline slowly crouched down and extended a hand to the small Mudkip. "Hey there, little one," she cooed. "Professor, I would love this Mudkip to accompany me." After waiting for the Mudkip to trust the empty hand offered to her, Emeline gently pet the Mudkip and rubbed it's cheek.

Standing up right again, having been half bent behind the desk pulling papers out of a desk drawer Birch now watched as a quit observer. His jolly smile in full bloom. The young trainer had very quickly taken to the Mudkip and it seemed the Mudkip had in turn taken to her. "You'll make a fantastic duo im sure." The pudgy man said setting what he had in hand down and picking up instead the last available Dexture and a bag of Pokeballs and Potions. "ill just get you set up and you can be on your way, my dear." Programming the pokedex took all of thirty seconds. "Ill be expecting great things from you now. Its not every day you become a trainer after all." Birch said handing the items over. The pokemon's pokeball which was still sat on the desk was an after thought in the end. Picking the orb up and admiring it for a moment before he handed that over as well. "Take good care of both yourself and your new pokemon. This worlds full of dangers but its filled withe even more adventure." With that Birch gave a final wave farewell to both Emeline and her new Mudkip.

She reached forward and gingerly lifted the small pokémon, stood upright, and cradled the little one like a baby in her arms. Emeline courteously bowed her head to Professor Birch before accepting the pokéball and pokédex with her free hand. "Thank you, Professor. I assure you I will certainly take good care of her." Emeline turned and strolled happily towards the laboratory's front doors.

It was definitely now or never, in this case. And he was ready. He hoped. The pulled his sunglasses off, he had been walking for ages to get here, and here he was. Looking at the Gekkit in his arms, Rowan took another deep breath. He was nervous, what if his mum needed him? And he was here?! Starting some grand adventure like he was his Da'? Bloody hells, he must be insane! "Nevermind, Diaspore... I don't think we should be here. Let's just... " He started as he turned around. "Gek! Gekkit Gek!" Came the response. Row sighed. "I know... I know. We have to do this! Or mum would have sent us here for naught... Alright. I'm ready." He said taking another deep breath.
Rowan had been inside labs before, as his father had been a archaeologist. Who better to talk to the professor's in each region except the ones who discovered fossils and hatched theories with the professor's. His Da's most talked to of the professor's was Professor Rowan, whom Row had been named after. But he didn't want to go to that professor's lab. No, he wanted a Mudkip. A girl he hoped, and he had the perfect name for her. As Rowan stepped into the lab, he glanced around. Diaspore trying to keep quiet, but her nature was hard to over come by herself. "Gek Gek!" She barked. Rowan sighed, knowing better than to expect his very noisy companion to keep quiet for long. "Excuse me? Is anyone home?" He called. He didn't immediately see anyone, but that was okay. He needed to calm his breathing and his unsteady heart beat. Otherwise, he would have a problem. His hunter's ears were straining to pick up where the professor may be. But he couldn't quite pinpoint just yet. No one was in the direct vacinity, and it didn't help that Diaspore was trying to talk to him. She got so excited so quickly.

Hello my dear. Spec is Afk at the moment and asked me to take this one for her. i hope thats not a problem. heart
The front doors would lead into a small hallway with the lab set to the left hand side and a kitchen to the right. Rowan the professor having made a lunch of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich had just sat down when the doors swung open and he heard vpiced in the hallways. Rather then stand up Roawn did the most logical option left to him. The sound of wheels rolling rapidly over whelmed the sound of the paper's they where riding atop as the portly man poped his head into the hallways. Leaning back in his chair with his lunch hanging from his lips held onto by one hand with papers in the other. The man took a moment to process who he was looking at. Recognition stuck and he dropped his meal taing a bite, chewing and swallowing in quick succession. "Ahhh Rowan, its good to see you again. So is it time then?" Rowan the professor asked knowing this day would come sooner or later for the young man. Past experience with the child now passed father had always lead him to believe one day he would show up.

Rowan looked to the sound of the rolling wheels, looking for the professor. When professor Birch slid into view and called him by his name, he sighed in relief. At least someone he recognized also recognized him as well. That meant he didn't have to really hide that welsh accent of his. "Oh Blimey Professor Birch. I'm afraid so, sir. Mum doesn' need me in tha house anymoore." He said, rather upset. Since his da' died, Rowan had taken care of his mom. It had taken a little bit longer than originally anticipated. Diaspore however was more or less wanting to be acknowledged. "Gekkit! Gek Gekk, Kit!" The little fox said happily, wanting to at least be introduced. "Ah, Pardon. Professor, this is Diaspore. She's fickle about when she wants ta be introduced. Diaspore, quiet now." The boy apologized. The Gekkit quietly barked again, but otherwise went kind of quiet. Rowan smiled at his very best friend. He was glad to have her around.
"Ah, anyhoo. Professor, I was hopin' ta get a Mudkip. I 'ave the perfect name for her! I want ta name her Lithie, short for Lithium, ya know." He said rather happily. He couldn't wait to have a Mudkip, to start his journey with an official starter pokemon. Plus, his Da' had a Mudkip. Not like Rowan would actually mention that he only wanted what his father had had. The hunter hadn't heard anyone but Professor Birch in the building. Which was strange, but the peanut butter and jam sandwhich in his clutches was proof enough why. Lunch time!

Birch chuckled as the bamboo fox chirped to get his and its trainer attention. He had heard of the pokemon known as Gekkit before but hadn't yet seen one in person. It was a treat to say the least. This one was quite lively at that. Perhaps one day he could study the pokemon rather then simply get a passing glance at her. It would be great research he thought but made sure to pay attention to rowan more then his research notes. "Well i just so happen to have one left, Come on in. The balls on the desk. give me a second to wash up." Birch said wheeling back into his lab stuffing the last of his meal down.
Jumping to his feet he was already at the sink washing his hands by the same Rowan entered the space he used for a lab. Turning back to the young lad, using a white towel to dry off with, he took a mental note of the name he was going to give the pokemon. He used female pronouns so he was set on a girl mudkip, Lucky enough thats just what he had too.
Setting the towel down and stepping up side Rowan as b***h pulled up a small metal box from the floor and set it onto the desk from which he produced some potions and a few extra Pokeballs. "You'll need these as well if your planing on being a pokemon trainer." On the deck Birth had left the pokeballs of a Torchic, Treecko and Mudkip that had just arrived the day before.
